JUNIOR GOLF COACHING This month we are taking a closer look at Junior golf at Breckland Pines. Having come through a very successful junior golf program myself with Suffolk junior golf in the mid 1990s which produced a world amateur number one two England internationals countless professionals and lifelong friends, I was privileged to see first-hand the skills required to be successful but also to gain lifelong participation within the game of golf. Golf can offer so much more than just a game to enjoy for our children it can offer key life skills from integrity patience to problem solving and social skills all skills which will help them into adult life. I’m very passionate about junior golf and offering a clear pathway for young people to become involved and get all the skills and enjoyment I have had from this game for the last 25 years.

STAGE 1- SATURDAY AND SUNDAY JUNIOR CLUB | 12-1PM 5 DOLLARS PER CHILD | NO NEED TO BOOK! Junior club is held every weekend very much an introduction to golf we focus on developing key fundamental movement skills such as balance locomotor and ball skills important aspect for children between the age of 5 and 12. We also start introducing basic golf fundamentals and play many teaching games for understanding. My objective is to have fun and offer a coaching climate which will reflect that. Everybody is welcome all equipment is provided and it gives juniors between the age of 4-17 a chance to see if golf is for them!

STAGE 2 – ONE TO ONE COACHING | ONE HOUR SESSIONS If the junior has shown a keen interest in golf and wants to develop further we now open a pathway to the golf course. I use a method where we start the child from 25 yards from the green and set a personal target to complete 9 holes in a certain score once they have completed there target we move back 25 yards so there now starting from 50 yards and so on. Within these sessions we are focusing on learning key scoring skills rules etiquette and course fundamentals. I believe in making the sessions fun but also feel its very important for juniors to be feeling like there having success and by starting in a manageable way by not making the golf course to long as juniors at this age do not possess the power or required skill level to take on a full length course which in the past I believe has stopped juniors who are introduced to golf from enjoying it because of the difficulty level. By using this method, the junior can see immediate results and a clear pathway for improvement. These sessions are available on Saturdays and Sundays with a cost of 40 dollars please bear in mind I can take 3 juniors at a time so open to families who have multiple children the cost is not based per person but on an hourly rate these sessions will need to be booked in advance.

STAGE 3- SUMMER JUNIOR GOLF CAMPS Throughout the summer school holidays, we offer age group-based summer camps. 5-10-year olds • 10am-1:30pm – where we once again focus on fundamental movement skills through many different games and also offer an introduction to the golf course. 11-18-year olds • 10am-2:30pm – As the juniors get older we start to focus more on technique and on course golf skills. This camp is a great way to prepare if the junior is thinking of playing on the Lakenheath High school golf team a summer of learning puts them at a distinct advantage for when try outs start at the end of august. The summer camps are 25 dollars per child we can take 8 juniors per group booking is required in advance. I have an assistant who works with me throughout the summer Alexis Grove who has come through the program herself she is an excellent assistant and brilliant with juniors. All dates for the summer camps will be released within the next few weeks and will be available on RAF Lakenheath Breckland pines golf course and grill facebook page and my own facebook Dean Fairweather please feel free to call me for an informal chat on 07847515267 for further information on any of the above programs.

LEARN FROM THE BEST Staff writing instructor Sally Warrell will be hosting the Flash Fiction Workshop. Below is a sample of her work with small scale writing to read and be inspired.

WINDOW Window in winter; the sad, grimy glass allowing light while shielding us from cold. Still one or two dead flies, casualties from the summer, transfixed in spider’s web veils on the dusty sill. Window in summer; open, beckoning us from this small space to the great outside. Life is to be lived on a larger canvas; wide blue sky, birds flying, a breeze blowing us into our tomorrow. Window with flowers. A set piece. The frame is all. Overblown lilies shed papery petals, leak ginger pollen, like a season starting to be over. A three legged art deco jug completes the picture. JOB Mega Job Fair set to showcase a bevy of employment opportunities in one location.

CALLING ALL JOB SEEKERS. It’s time to touch up those resumes and put your best foot forward in preparation for RAF Lakenheath’s Mega Job Fair event on Wednesday April 11. Whether you are looking for a job, changing careers or simply seeking out some advice for resume and interviewing skills, this is the place to be. While not federally tracked, many estimates have shown military spouse unemployment percentages as high as 25 percent, oftentimes a result of frequent moves and unpredictable service member schedules.

“We want people to know that we are actively hiring military spouses,” said Kristine Billings, Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) HR Director at RAF Lakenheath. “We have both full and part-time positions open in facilities across base – from auto mechanics to child and youth program assistants to cooks. This event really showcases the diversity of our offerings.”

with qualified candidates,” Billings said. “In addition to featuring NAF positions at both RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall, we will also have representatives from the Civilian Personnel Office who support appropriated funded, Ministry of Defense and Local National Direct Hire positions. If you’re looking for a job, there will be someone here who can help you.”

NAF positions aren’t the only ones being featured at this fair.

The first Mega Job Fair Event was held at RAF Mildenhall late last year and was a resounding success. Event organizers expect the April event to draw an even larger crowd..

“The goal of the job fair is to build awareness of the opportunities available and to fill those positions

Looking to get a leg up at this year’s event?

There have been many studies indicating the importance of enthusiasm; oftentimes it is identified as one of the most important attributes for an employee to bring to a new position. Smile! It’s contagious.

Job fairs are organized well in advance, and many of them provide a list of participating organizations in advance. For our April job fair, we’ll have a list of participating businesses on our website: www.lakenheathfss.com. Practice: No matter how many job interviews you’ve been in, it’s very common to get nervous before a hiring event of any kind. Practice what you’re going to say about yourself, your skills and what your goals are. Use a friend, a mirror, or your partner as a sounding board. The more you practice ahead of time, the more confident you’ll feel at the event.

Take Note of Names: Job fairs bring lots of employers together in a small environment, and after speaking with a handful of them, it’s easy to forget names. A great job fair tip is to keep a little notepad with you to jot down notes as you go along. It will pay off in your follow-up that you knew you spoke with Jim instead of “someone at the job fair.”

Network: A job fair presents a great opportunity to connect with your next potential employer before the interview. You never know what opportunities could come out of this face-to-face meeting. Networking lets the employer get to know the person behind the paper, so even if your dream job isn’t available at the moment, taking the time to speak with a potential employer gives them a little sense of who you are and what your strengths are. Making that one-on-one connection may work to your advantage when a position opens up. Another HR Insight: Don’t just network with employers, speak up and get to know others who are job searching. You never know what connections you’ll make.

Bring Your Resume: Have a resume already put together? Bring it! Make sure that all information is current (including your contact information!). Make your first connection in person, and if you are interested in pursuing employment, drop your resume.

WHO CAN APPLY To be eligible for US NAF employment with the 48th Force Support Squadron, the following criteria must be met:

MUST BE: U A US citizen or a citizen of any other NATO country (other than UK). Must also be connected with US federal government, assigned to the vicinity of RAF Lakenheath. YOUTH of the

YEAR Meet:

MADISON LONG

At 16 years of age, this sophomore has big plans in life. Madison recently wrote four essays and completed an application that won her Youth of the Year for the RAF Lakenheath. We had a chance to catch up with Madison and talk about this essay and her thoughts on the Youth Center. What were your aspirations while writing this essay? My family, they are my biggest role models. I have an older brother who’s going to school for Psychology and never gave up when things got hard. My parents have taught me about being a good friend and a good person. What made you enter this contest? Brooke Muenchow (teen coordinator) told us about the competition. She is always guiding us to get out of our comfort zones and try new things. She wants to see us succeed in our future goals. Brooke and the staff want to build us into leaders. It makes me happy that they want the best for me. Are there a lot of teens that go to the Youth Center? Yes, we love it there. There’s always something to do. I get to hang out with friends and do challenging mind games. It’s like a second home for a lot of us. We even made dog toys for a local shelter. Last year we were able to go to Chicago for a Keystone Conference. What are you plans after high school? I definitely want to go to college. Right now, my goal is to go into something that has to do with film making and writing. I like getting creative. What’s the next step with this essay? Next step is regionals in Italy in April. I am excited and nervous. I never thought this would be happening. I’ve learned along the way to have a voice and now I am using it, hopefully I can help other people have a voice too. One day I hope this helps to build a legacy and other teens can see that things are possible. The Youth Center and my family have been a big part of this journey.◆

Blade Runner 2049

Happy Death Day

A companion to the first Blade Runner (1982) which follows the character Agent "K" played by Ryan Gosling as he searches for the truth about their society in the year 2049. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. I found the story somewhat difficult to follow; it seemed as if there were lot of unresolved issues in the timeline that aren't fully explained. I also expected it to have more action, but it followed more of a mystery solving tone. However, I did think that it was a visually stunning film with a captivating plot.

The best way to describe this movie is Groundhogs Day meets Friday the 13th. A young girl named Tree relives the same day over and over. It begins with her waking up in the bed of a man's dorm room who she can't remember, and at the end of the day someone kills her. The same day continues to happen, as she attempts to figure out who wants to kill her so she can try to kill them first. Unfortunately, time is running out before her body can no longer withstand the trauma she has been through from the various ways she has been killed. This movie will not scare you, but will leave you entertained.
