They are indeed top notch and will beat your every expectation!” -Jennifer Roberts “Nick and his team were far and away the best experience I’ve had with any legal team. I know firsthand because he was the best attorney for my personal situation, and for that I am grateful. I recommend Mr. Larry Rice without hesitation as one of the best divorce attorneys.” - Dr. John E. Bell “To say this man is a brilliant attorney would be a gross understatement. Keen instincts, an innate understanding of the human psyche, and adaptive strategies give him an extraordinary edge. He clearly intimidates opposition. I wanted to work out a settlement that would not leave me enemies with my ex, but would still protect my interests in my 23 year marriage. We walk into his office with a heavy heart and walk out knowing we have the best on our side! I recommend his entire office and staff to anyone needing legal help.” - Leanne Simmons “One of the best phone calls I ever made was to Nick Rice. Nick's knowledge of the law and his dedication to his clients is extraordinary. He is clever, intelligent, steadfast, well-spoken and confident. Nick did an outstanding job in the courtroom, and he gave me peace of mind throughout the entire process.” -Beth Bumgardner The Rice Divorce Team 901.526.6701 www.aboutdivorce.com

he past couple of days I oversaw a construction project for my mother-in-law to repair the deck of her boat dock. The hard work, I thought, of the project was to replace the support beams that had deteriorated. My mother-in law had hired a couple of young guys to do the work. I figured if I could oversee the replacement of the support beams that it would be easy for the guys to replace the decking. The first day the guys worked hard to pull the old decking from two sections, replace the support beams and replace the decking. The guys took great pride in making sure each twoby-six was firmly butted up to each other by using a crowbar to force each of the treated wood decking with their slight imperfections perfectly lined up next to each other. I went home that night with great satisfaction that we were going to be able to repair the dock. I took pictures to show my wife the stages of construction of the two sections as we repaired them. First showing the work on the new support beams and then the completed deck. Of course, I did this so my wife could see how clever I was and how hard I had worked. When I showed her the pictures, the first thing out of her mouth was, “Did you not leave any space between the deck boards?”. You see, the attempt at perfection would result in the deck not being able to handle any change in weather or aging of the boards. The simple fact that lumber is a naturally growing, imperfect material and because of that imperfection your construction must allow for movement in the lumber. The well-known fact is that deck boards should be placed a ¼ inch from each other to allow for expansion as they age and expand in the heat. We had built a beautiful deck that would not last a single season. The attempt at what looks like perfection would keep the natural material from accomplishing what is meant to be. Perfection is often the enemy of the good. In this passage from John, Jesus is clearly standing up for a woman that is being accused of living such a life that the mob felt she was unworthy of living in 22

Jim Walker their community. The mob wanted to kill her, but what they were really trying to do was force Jesus to make a statement that made Him unworthy to live in their community. Jesus was not defending her lifestyle but calling on the mob to analyze themselves before condemning others. He basically called the woman and the mob to change the way they were living in relationship with each other, by considering their own imperfections before they judge the imperfections of others. In the age of social media, it's easy to make judgements and comments on the imperfections and differences we have with each other. It makes us feel morally superior as we sit back and look at the attitudes, behavior, and comments of others. We may not be in the position of stoning someone, we may not respond back in a comment to the post we read, but we do render judgement without considering the frailties of the ones we judge. I miss the day when Facebook was a platform to share with friends and family the joys and sadness of daily living. It was a great form of communication between parties that love each but are separated by time and busyness of life. I believe the words of Jesus speak to Memphis as powerfully today as they did to the mob in Gospel of John calling on us to change the way we communicate and judge the lives of others as they are displayed on social media. Jesus’ message throughout His ministry was to love others as you want to be loved. Judge others as you want to be judged. Some comments on social media might be just as wrong as the woman who was accused of adultery. I think Jesus’ response to us is the same response He gave the mob - may the first among us without some form of intolerance be the first to comment negatively on the lives of others on social media. Lift up Memphis by supporting all things that encourage and draw your fellow citizens to care for each other. Seek the peace and prosperity of Memphis. Jim Walker

Lissa Noel Book Signing at Social Friends, readers, and supporters attended a lovely book signing and reception March 16 at Social, A Shop for Gracious Living, for Lissa Noel’s re-launch of One Hundred "I Wills" After You Say "I Do". Guests enjoyed visiting with Lissa, socializing, and buying a copy of her book, in which Lissa offers goals and strategies for creating a thriving marriage!
M
ay and June are historically the most popular months for weddings, and if you are looking for a special wedding, or even anniversary gift, One Hundred "I Wills" After You say "I Do" by Lissa Noel is a great idea! “100 I Wills” features 100 individual goals for marriage divided into three sections: Basics, Communication and Intimacy. A few “I will” examples include: “I Will” # 47: “I will strive to accept my spouse the way they are. Let the small stuff go, and just love.” “I Will” # 57: "I will stick to the subject and refrain from irrelevant and prior issues during disagreement." “I Will # 88: I will keep flirtation, courtship, and spontaneity alive in my marriage.” Even though Lissa and her husband of 43 years, Randy, had great role models from their parents, she readily admits they were young, strong willed and needed good communication skills when they first married. She set out to learn from experts and mentors, both secular and spiritual, and with God’s help their marriage moved from just surviving to thriving.

The “100 I Wills” book came to fruition 14 years ago and sold well in Memphis and Oxford, Mississippi. Then, during Covid quarantine, Lissa decided to re-edit and relaunch the book. “I feel like I am called to invest in the next generation by sharing these skills,” she says. “100 I Wills” provides straight-to-the-point lessons and on-the-ground encouragement for couples who want to strengthen their marriage and make it a priority. In her introduction, Lissa lets her readers know that this book was not written to change their spouse. The goal should be focusing on the “I Wills” where you want improvement. An added bonus of investing in your marriage gives your children one of the greatest gifts - a legacy that is more valuable than money can buy. Lissa is also every reader’s cheerleader. “Be encouraged! Small improvements can produce big results,” she says. Currently, the book is available locally at Social, A Shop for Gracious Living, Novel bookstore, Ménage Stationery, Pickering Boxwood, Bella Vita, and online at Amazon. What is Lissa’s next project? When asked, she says she hopes to learn how to utilize her social media to reach out to readers and followers, where she will be able to offer quick tidbits and provide a practical application and encouragement of her “100 I Wills”. You can follow Lissa on Instagram, @100iwillsbook. For more information, visit 100Iwills.com.

Gore + Gore Art Opening Sister and brother, painter and photographer, a familial familiarity but two distinctive styles – this is Gore + Gore. The pair recently held a pop-up art show at the Medicine Factory with an opening reception on April 9. Kat Gore is a well-known painter in the Memphis area, with her work even gracing a Memphis In May poster. Hernando-based Sanford Gore is creating images with a near ancient wet glass technique with a modern camera. In their first duo show (in adulthood), the pair showcased new works in the 1912 patent medicine factory downtown that has quickly become an artist’s colony, housing both studio space and exhibit areas. Building Momentum: Wolf River Conservancy By Kevin Dean Mission: The Wolf River Conservancy is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the Wolf River and its watershed as a sustainable natural resource. Year founded: 1985 Website: www.wolfriver.org Service Area: All of Memphis and Shelby County Annual budget: $848,824 Ways to donate to WRC: • New tools for service projects like trash pickers and shovels • New power tools like a cordless drill/driver 18V • Items for the Soirée silent auction • Volunteers for events and service projects • Honorarium and/or memorial donation
T
he Wolf River Conservancy was founded in 1985 when a group of volunteers came together to successfully oppose a new gravel mine along the Wolf River near Summer Avenue in Memphis. Afterwards, these volunteers chartered the Wolf River Conservancy as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of Wolf River lands for sustainable recreation and education. The founding members had a vision of the Wolf River as a future Greenway and wildlife corridor through the city, protected from the kind of degradation suffered by waterways such as Nonconnah Creek in south Memphis. In the past year, the Conservancy protected over 1,000 acres in the Wolf River watershed and achieved re-accreditation with the Land Trust Alliance, a distinction only 20% of land trusts attain. The Wolf River Greenway is often confused with the Shelby Farms Greenline, and many people don’t realize they have multiple options! The Wolf River Conservancy’s Greenway follows a River or body of water and a Greenline is typically an abandoned railroad track (rails to trails). The big news is that the two trails will finally converge this summer. The connection is close to Sycamore View Rd. and Mullins Station Rd. The new connection will provide additional walk, run and bike areas. Over the past year, the Wolf River Conservancy pivoted its programs to virtual platforms and small, outdoor projects with proper safety precautions. The Conservancy hosted monthly virtual educational lectures over the past 12 months, and attendance surprisingly surpassed their prior in-person lectures. Additionally, 28

the organization’s special events pivoted quickly with their annual Cycle the Greenway morphing into Discover the Greenway, a socially-distant scavenger hunt along the Wolf River Greenway. Meanwhile, their annual Greenway Soiree evolved into a virtual fundraiser and auction. While large in-person events and programs have shifted due to the pandemic, demand for the Wolf River and Wolf River Greenway has not waivered. According to Bike/Ped Memphis, Wolf River Greenway usage is at an all-time high. The pandemic has only emphasized the importance of access to high quality trails and green spaces for everyone. Memphians can get out to enjoy the outdoors this summer on the Wolf River Greenway trail. Opportunities for hiking, biking, and more abound on the 12 miles of Greenway trail, meandering beside the Wolf River. The Wolf River Conservancy has additionally planned free community programming along the trail, to add even more activities for the public. Discover the Greenway is an annual fundraising event that takes place over a two-week time period. This year’s event will be May 22nd through June 5th. Originally this event was a one-day, large gathering cycle event, but due to the 2020 Pandemic, the organization shifted this event into a two-week long scavenger hunt requiring participants to walk, run, or bike in search of a variety of sites to be found along the Greenway. The more sites you find the better your chance at winning prizes. Visit www.wolfriver.org for more details. Kevin Dean is CEO of the Momentum Nonprofit Partners. He received his Ed.D in Organizational Learning and Leadership from Vanderbilt University in 2021.

Learning to Speak Southern by Lindsey Rogers Cook
John and Mary Margaret by Susan Cushman We first meet Susan Cushman's characters, John and Mary Margaret, in her short story collection, Friends of the Library. In her second novel and seventh book, Cushman fleshes out their stories, covering over fifty years of their lives in Mississippi and Memphis against the backdrop of the Civil Rights movement and continuing through current-day events. John and Mary Margaret is an insider's look into the white-privilege bubble of a young girl growing up in Jackson, Mississippi, and participating in sorority life on the Ole Miss campus in the late 1960s. But it's also a candid portrayal of a young Black boy from Memphis who follows his dream to study law at the predominantly white university. What happens when their shared love for literature blossoms into an ill-fated romance? Set squarely in the center of decades of historical events in Mississippi and Memphis, here their story brings those events to life.
Novel will host a virtual Novel at Home event with Susan Cushman in conversation with author Jeffrey Blount on Friday, June 4 at 6pm. A searing Southern story about confronting the difference between the family you're born into and the family you choose, from the acclaimed author of How to Bury Your Brother. Lex fled Memphis years ago, making ends meet with odd jobs teaching English around the world. She only returns when she has no choice, when her godmother presents her with a bargain she can't refuse. Lex has never understood her mother, who died tragically right before Lex's college graduation, but now she's got a chance to read her journals, to try and figure out what sent her mother spiraling all those years ago. The Memphis that Lex inhabits is more bourbon and bbq joint than sweet tea on front porches, and as she pieces together the Memphis her mother knew, seeing the lure of the world through her mother's lush writing, she must confront more of her own past and the people she left behind. Once all is laid bare, Lex must decide for herself: What is the true meaning of family?
Novel will host a Novel at Home event with Lindsey Rogers Cook and popular fiction author Kristy Woodson Harvey as her conversation partner on Tuesday, June 1 at 6pm. Kiss and Repeat by Heather Truett In Heather Truett's Kiss and Repeat, a teen uses the scientific method drilled into him by his scientist father to begin a kissing experiment. Only the experiment gets messy, and Stephen will have to come clean if he wants to win one girl's heart in this heartfelt and funny YA debut. Stephen Luckie isn't so lucky in love. He's completely inexperienced when it comes to girls, and wonders if his tics - caused by Tourette's Syndrome – are the reason. Then, a game at a party reveals that his body goes still while kissing. Using the scientific method drilled into him by his scientist father, Steven begins the best experiment ever--one that involves kissing as many girls as possible. Who knew science could be so fun? But when the experiment gets underway, Stephen begins to question how he treats girls - and if his tics have been standing in his way at all. With two girls interested in him, he has to figure out what really matters to him and what he'll risk - and gain - by being his true self. Kristy Dallas Alley, another Memphian who published her first Young Adult novel last year (The Ballad of Ami Miles) will appear in conversation with Heather Truett for an online Novel at Home launch event on Tuesday, May 25 at 6pm.

Carmeon Hamilton Design Dreams Coming True By Sandi Butler Hughes Photos Courtesy of discovery+
I
nspiration can strike in the most unexpected places. Carmeon Hamilton found her passion when she was creating her dorm room while pursuing a degree in physical therapy. She designed custom drapes and bedding for her space, and a friend told her she should change her major. Turns out, that friend was right! Carmeon recently won discovery+’s Design Star: Next Gen competition series. With her win comes a $50,000 cash award and an opportunity for her own discovery+ series.
Carmeon graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. She was then able to blend her passion for design and healthcare by designing medical facilities and nursing homes. She learned how design can truly impact health and wellness. “I believe in the importance of environments,” said Carmeon. “Living well is part of overall wellness.” One of the ways she accomplishes this is to use items with cultural or historical significance that are meaningful to her clients. “Connection to our spaces relates back to wellness.” Carmeon’s Memphis-based design business is Nubi Interiors, and she credits her husband, Marcus with coming up with the name. “He calls me his Nubian princess, Nubi for short. He suggested the name,” she shared. Locally, Nubi Interiors has participated in ArtsMemphis Art by Design showcase. In 2018, her first year to participate, Carmeon was the first African American designer to be featured. If you missed the six episode series and the projects that led to Carmeon’s win, Design Star: Next Gen is available to stream on discovery+. Regarding being crowned winner, Carmeon was overjoyed to hear that her authentic approach worked. “Throughout this competition, I created spaces that were more and more ‘me.’ I laid it all out on the table here,” said Carmeon, as she reflected on the competition. She also clearly expressed her specific design narrative and personal brand through her modern Bohemian design style, which notably impressed the judges. The host for the show was Allison Holker Boss, and the judges for the competition are interior design gurus: head judge Jonathan Adler; judge Lauren Makk; and guest judge Jonathan Scott, co-star of Property Brothers: Forever Home. They gave high praise to Carmeon, noting her sophisticated use of materials and keen ability to elevate her creations by breaking design rules. “Carmeon is an incredibly talented designer whose creativity and heart were on full display in Design Star: Next Gen,” said Jane Latman, president, HGTV. “Plus, in an age driven by clicks, likes, downloads and views, she already has a strong social media presence with thousands of followers and that puts her in an excellent position to inspire and motivate new audiences to follow her on-air, by streams and via her social media platforms.” You can find Carmeon on Instagram @carmeon.hamilton, and her website, carmeonhamilton.com, includes a photo-rich blog with design inspirations, tips, and how-tos. 34

Carmeon is working on the final details of her new series for discovery+, and it will be filmed in Memphis. “I told the producers I wanted it to be part love letter to the city that has done so much for me,” she said. And we can hardly wait for it to be signed, sealed, and delivered sometime this fall!

Cirque du CMOM
Party Gras Social distancing requirements, along with the commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of supporters and partygoers, led the Children’s Museum to the difficult decision to forgo the brick and mortar party this year. The 2021 Cirque du CMOM, Party Gras, was a No-Show Gala. As a thank you, donors received festive, family-friendly celebration boxes to enjoy at their convenience. The boxes included custom design mask cookies from Sweet LaLa’s Bakery, a full-sized bottle of champagne, a pair of LED color-changing flutes, mardi gras masks, light up mardi gras beads and throw beads, masks and stickers for children to decorate, chocolate doubloons, and museum passes. Donors were able to pick up their box(es) at the Children’s Museum. For those wanting to support CMOM and get in on the themed fun each year, but not be able to make the party, the celebration boxes may be a recurring addition to Cirque du CMOM.
“This year's annual fundraiser was an affirmation of the loyalty and support CMOM receives from the community. This year's event was crucial to the museum's financial health due to the lasting effects of the COVID closure. We cannot say thank you enough to our donors and friends for their invaluable, ongoing support.” 36

Key Lime Time in Memphis: Donuts - and Pie - with Don DeWeese By Sandi Butler Hughes Photos courtesy of Don DeWeese Don DeWeese must have sugar and sprinkles running through his veins because Gibson’s Donuts is in his blood. With his exuberant personality and welcoming smile, Don has made Gibson’s a Memphis landmark. Don’s recent book, The Donut Man, is a recollection of the business of Gibson's intertwined with his life, family, friends, and of course those delicious donuts. As Alton Brown of The Food Network explains, "In Memphis is this donut place called Gibson's, which makes not just the best donut in the United States, but, as far as I'm concerned, if all the other donuts went away, and I still had Gibson's, I'd be okay." Don and his wife Rita are serial entrepreneurs. They owned several businesses over the years, but none have been as successful and notorious as the donut shop they purchased in 1996. Fun fact: Gibson’s is the largest one-owner, single-location donut shop in America! While Glazed Donuts are the number one seller (followed by Chocolate, Blueberry, and Old-Fashioned), no one does specialty donuts like Gibson’s. There are traditional holiday-themed donuts such as Valentine’s, Halloween, and Christmas, along with an array of other specialty creations that have evolved into Gibson signature donuts. For instance, there are Red Velvet Donuts, Mardi Gras King Cake Donuts, Samoa Donuts during Girl Scout cookie time, and Peppermint Donuts at Christmas. The Maple Bacon Donut began as a joke when Don’s son Britton was competing in the Memphis in May Barbecue Fest; it is so popular, it has become a bestseller. Summertime in Memphis means Key Lime Pie Donuts, Pina Colada Donuts, and Watermelon Donuts are back. Gibson’s Donuts taste better not only because it’s an experience to go there, but they are crafted better than other donuts. The competition’s donuts are smaller in size - a Gibson’s donut is 1.25 ounces (theirs is ¾ of an ounce). A Gibson donut is also lighter and airier because it has more yeast and rises three times (others only rise once). What makes the simplicity of Gibson’s Glazed Donut such perfection? “We use a very thin glaze, and it is glazed on both sides” Don explains. “Theirs is thicker, and they only glaze the top of their donut. When you bite into it, the glaze will crack. I think it is more like icing. Since we glaze both sides of the donut, it is fresher and more moist.” Yes, a Gibson’s Donut is created bigger and better. But the little extra sprinkle of fun courtesy of Don DeWeese makes them the best donut ever!
Key Lime Pie Donuts are a summer staple at Gibson’s, but Don’s actual Key Lime Pie is equally well-known among his family and many friends. While the pie is not available at the shop (only the donut version), Don shares his recipe and the secret that makes it so good. His secret is simple: put the pie in the freezer. “Something happens in the freezer with the science of the recipe. It has a creamier, ice cream consistency,” Don said.
DD’s Key Lime Pie 3 egg yolks ⅓ cup Key lime juice 1 can Eagle brand sweetened condensed milk Mix ingredients until well blended. Pour into a graham cracker pie crust. Put in the freezer for a full 24 hours. When ready to serve, top each slice with homemade whipped cream. Don says, “It’s so much better than the pre-made stuff and it’s so easy!” Whipped Cream: 1 cup whipping cream 1 tablespoon powdered sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla Whip with a hand mixer until thick.

edding planning started out as a breeze. Having been to so many weddings my vision was very clear. After securing all my favorite vendors and a fabulous wedding planner COVID graced us with her presence! The uncertainty of everything was very difficult but Ben and I were 100% certain that we did not want to postpone this next chapter of our lives. We decided very early on that our wedding date would stay the same even if the plans had to be adjusted. We took precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of all our guests. Annesdale was a great place to allow for social distancing. Even though face masks and social distancing were NOT what we had ever envisioned for our big day... with the help of my mom, our wedding planner, and an amazing team of vendors, it was far more spectacular than we could have ever imagined. Annesdale Mansion is a timeless and beautiful venue. It was the perfect backdrop for our Fall reception. There was a cool snap on our wedding day so fire pits, outdoor heaters, lounge seating, and cozy throws were great additions! We danced the night away in an open-air tent surrounded by our loved ones. Even though it was difficult not having all of our family and friends there to celebrate with us, Ben and I are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support we received throughout this very special time. - Lizzy Crawford Stallworth

n December 12, 2020, we joyfully celebrated our O marriage with our family and friends at the Peabody Hotel. A year before our special day, we visited the
Peabody among many other locations to pick our venue. Ryan describes my reaction to seeing the Skyway Room “like a child getting every one of her Christmas gifts she ever wanted.” Ryan and I have attended over 20 weddings together and knew what we wanted for our special day. We planned the venue, photographer, band, and dress pre-COVID. Once March came, our planning came to a halt due to so many unknowns. Around September, we marched on and knew that the date we had selected to celebrate our union was still set. We took every precaution we could for the safety of our loved ones. Although less guests were able to attend, we were beyond grateful that not one case of COVID occurred. One surprise I had to keep secret was the recording of me singing one of our favorite songs by Kacey Musgraves. Every anxious moment was worth Ryan’s reaction during our first dance. Another highlight of the evening was sharing the stage with my uncle and cousin to a fun rendition of “Mustang Sally.” So many things changed in our lives last year but being surrounded by loved ones we had waited so long to see and the excitement of Christmas coming made our day so special. Ryan and I have been blessed by our relationship, and we know we have an incredible future ahead of us. -Ginny Matthews Brooks

righton Barousse and Brian Vogler were married B December 12, 2020 at the Peabody Hotel. While this was not the original plan as it relates to location
and the number of invitees, life has a way of working out the way things are meant to be! Brighton and Brian met in their senior year of college at The University of Alabama in 2014. The couple maintained a longdistance relationship for a few years before ultimately settling down together in Atlanta, GA. Following a two-year engagement, the couple was hopeful that they could make the December wedding date work, even if the majority of plans needed to change to be compliant with the current pandemic regulations. The incredible vendors involved in the weekend worked tirelessly so that every detail was absolutely perfect! The weekend started with a rehearsal dinner at the Rendezvous Restaurant. The wedding day included an intimate ceremony officiated by the bride’s Godfather. Afterwards, their family and close friends danced the night away to the band ATL Groove Factory! The newlyweds enjoyed a warm honeymoon afterwards, at Hermitage Bay in Antigua.

Herb Gardening: Tips from an Expert
By Sherri McCalla Herb Garden Curator, Memphis Botanic Garden
H
erbs are plants that have been used for flavor, fragrance, medicinal and healthful qualities, economic and industrial uses, pesticidal properties, and/or used as a dye. The name also can refer horticulturally to a fleshy seed-bearing plant that dies to the ground over winter: herbaceous. An herb usually prefers sunny, well-drained sites. Garden soil in the Mid-South can range from the naturally well-draining, rich, loess soils of the Delta area to poor-draining clay pretty much everywhere else. Any potential herb grower that is NOT based along the Mississippi River should amend their soils with coarse builder’s sand and plenty of organic materials such as humus and compost. There are exceptions to this sun preference as some herbs are actually woodland plants. “Full sun” really means only 4-6 hours of full sun. Here in our area, most sun-loving herbs would appreciate afternoon shade! Take the time to research the plant you are planning to purchase: find out its origins and you’ll be able to care for it properly. Which herbs should you grow? I suggest starting with one or two that you already know you like such as basil, rosemary, or maybe chives. Try to plant your culinary herbs near the door closest to your kitchen. You’ll be more likely to walk out and snip some for dinner if you don’t have to navigate the lower 40. Culinary herbs do better when frequently pinched back/harvested. Pinching will keep the herb from blooming and setting seed and make the plant bushy and full. Once basil blooms, the essential oils that give it flavor begin to decline. Use basil to toss into fresh salads, top homemade pizzas, or top store-bought pizzas to make it taste homemade. However, some plants such as dill should be allowed to bloom and set seed if you’d like dill seeds for your pickles and vinegars. The green portions of dill can be snipped and added to potato salad, fish dishes, or cream sauces for a fresh touch. Collect handfuls of mint, basil, rosemary, sage, dill, etc., and make a fragrant, edible bouquet for your kitchen table. Snip and use the herbs straight from your bouquet, and let your guests choose what they would like in their own salad. 48

Dandelion Pesto 2-4 cloves crushed garlic ½ cup cold-pressed olive oil 2-3 cups young dandelion leaves (eaten all the ones from your yard? Your local grocery store may carry them, but you can use any other culinary herb or greens you prefer) ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional...reduce amount of oil if you omit this) Dash of sea salt A squirt of lemon juice ¼ cup ground nuts (pine nuts are traditional but try walnuts, pecans, filberts, etc. Try toasting the nuts for an even more amazing flavor burst) Put all ingredients in a food processor and blend until well mixed. Serve with crackers, toast points, or vegetables for dipping.
Goat Cheese Honey Herb Log 1 roll goat cheese (Chevre, plain) Dry roasted, salted sunflower seeds Honey A good palm-full of your favorite chopped herbs such as Tagetes lucida, mint, basil, etc. – your preference Blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries (and, I suspect, fresh figs!) Roll cheese in sunflower seeds (include the ends) until covered well. Sprinkle herb(s) of choice overall. Cover well with honey. Add berries. Serve with crackers. (adapted from a recipe from the Summer Celebration event in Jackson, TN) If this leaves you wishing for more information or recipes, please attend one of Sherri McCalla’s Herbal Work Studies. The Herbal Work Study is the second Saturday of every month from 8:30 am until 11:30 am and will be canceled if it is raining.
