St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park
Whether it's gazing into the eyes of a massive alligator, marveling at exotic birds, or immersing oneself in the lush surroundings, the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park promises an enriching and unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. Established in 1893, this historic park has become a beloved institution, featuring exhibits, educational programs, and interactive experiences centered around reptiles, birds, mammals, and other wildlife. In addition, the park offers thrilling attractions like zip lines and a bird rookery. More about the park on page 26...
White Sands Buddhist Center
Located just up the road in Mims, the White Sands Buddhist Center is a magnificent sight you almost have to see to believe. Except for the trickling of a nearby fountain, chirping birds and a soft breeze rustling through the trees, this 30 acre site is almost silent. A series of statues rise nearly three stories with intricate displays of flowering plants and paved stairways leading to their bases. Visitors will learn Buddhist teachings, can engage in meditation, and immerse themselves in the practice of mindfulness. The center is open daily from dawn until dusk and all are welcome. More solitude found on page 32...

There are a lot of bugs and critters here in TGO. Heck, some of them can even kill you. However, none are as pestering as the micro-size ankle biter known as the No-see-um. Here's your chance to learn all about these blood-sucking ninjas. They're famous for biting your ankles, removing some of your blood, and then laying up to 400 eggs, all of which probably have some of your DNA in them! Oh, and these bites itch real bad and if you scratch them, they get worse. But we are here for you, providing all the info you need to know about the dreaded No-see-um. Start scratching on page 30... Is Officially Here!
It's Now A Lot Easier To Age Gracefully
Introducing the latest technology in aesthetic treatmentsIPL and Morpheus8!
IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, is a non-invasive treatment that targets and destroys hair follicles to reduce unwanted hair growth. It also helps to fade sun damage and reduce the appearance of age spots and fine lines, leaving you with smoother, more youthful-looking skin.
Morpheus8 is a non-surgical advanced treatment that utilizes radio frequency that stimulates collagen and elastin in the skin, reducing the appearance of scars and wrinkles, helping to reverse the aging process.
Unfortunately for bananas, they can't control the aging process like people can. At MedAesthetics, we have treatments that improve fine lines and wrinkles, help firm and tighten mildly sagging skin, and diminish age spots, all which help restore your confidence to age gracefully.

Dear TGO Community,
This Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time is the deadline to vote for our own TGO Golf Club as “Best of the Best” in Brevard County. We are honored to be nominated a second time by Florida Today for this local recognition. Our community has worked very hard to support and improve our TGO Golf Course so winning this recognition would be a special way to validate this hard work. Check out page 36 of this issue of The Happenings, scan the QR code and follow directions to vote and help us win. Please vote as often as the website allows!
The CSA office has recently received some calls from homeowners asking about the vegetative buffer around our lakes. This buffer is there to help filter excess nutrients and grass cuttings before they enter the lake water. Our standard is to keep these buffers between 8" and 18" high. Our rules state that homeowners are not allowed to cut or trim this three foot buffer. Now that we are in our prime growing season, if you notice the buffer behind your home is higher than our standard, please call the CSA office and we’ll put in a work order to trim it for you.
I’m happy to share that the entire perimeter fence along our nature trail between TGO property and our neighbors, the St. John's River Water Management District, has now been replaced. This span of field fence is over three miles long and was a big undertaking for one year, so the Infrastructure Committee suggested we break this project into phases over three years. In previous years we replaced the north and west sections of fence. The final section of fence along our southeast border, also known as the Betty Salter Trail, was completed last week. This fence line was pushed back toward St. John’s property to provide easier access to the trail and lakes along our southeastern perimeter. Along with the fence work, we improved the trail surface by installing some drainage pipes and adding some fill, so the trail is in great condition now and ready for you to take a nature hike. No golf carts or other motor vehicles are allowed on this trail, but it’s a great trail for hiking, jogging and mountain biking. There is a narrow culvert that you must walk across to complete the entire trail. There is a cable handhold to give you stability when crossing the culvert.
I was hopeful that once the nature trail fence was replaced, we would see less turf damage caused by wild hogs along our golf course rough areas. Unfortunately, we are still seeing damage to our course, especially along the perimeter of Holes #9 & #10. Critter control is happening on a regular basis in the evenings on and around our course, with a goal to eliminate the hogs who are causing this damage.
Happy Independence Day Everyone! This is the final issue of The Happenings prior to the 4th of July holiday, which falls on a Tuesday this year, and the CSA office will be closed Tuesday for the holiday. Please remember that NO fireworks are permitted to be used within TGO, but you can still enjoy fireworks and fun in North Brevard during the “Red, White and Boom” event which is back this year. The City of Titusville is once again hosting a free, family event in conjunction with the fireworks display on Tuesday, July 4th. Enjoy music, food, business vendors and other activities. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:15 pm. This is happening at the Chain of Lakes Park in north Titusville from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, be sure to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the fun.
Sincerely,
Billy Specht CSA Manager

CSA Trash Pick Up Rules
The CSA crew picks up household trash 364 days of the year (off for Christmas). You’ll see them in a big truck pulling one or more green hoppers behind it. The guy crouching on the hopper grabs your trash bag as they pass by. To make the collection process efficient, please follow these important rules:
• Break down all boxes and put all packing material in a closed bag.
• Close all trash bags with twist ties or the integrated drawstrings that some trash bags have.
• Tie bags together if they are all light in weight.
• Place trash within one foot of the road so that it’s within easy reach.
• Dispose of your pet’s waste inside the closed trash bag.
• Put trash out at the curb by 10:00 am - Pick-up time varies within the park.
• Do not mix household trash with organic yard debris or construction materials.
• Do not put trash out at night because by morning it will have been scattered by wild animals.
Please do not allow pets to urinate on trash or debris. The crew has to pick this up!
• Also be aware that if you place your trash out on the street too early, the vultures think you have prepared them a sack lunch1
CSA Yard Debris Pick-Up Rules
The CSA crew picks up organic yard debris at least once per week. Tree trimmings should be cut down to a maximum of 4 feet long, weigh less than 50 pounds, and be stacked uniformly at the curb. Loose material such as pine needles, leaves and small twigs must be collected in untied plastic bags or open containers. The CSA will not pick up sod, dirt, tree stumps, construction material (e.g., concrete, wood, drywall, metal), chemicals (e.g., paint, oil), major appliances, or tires. DO NOT bring these items to the CSA Maintenance Yard yourself. They may be dropped off, without charge, at the Brevard County Mockingbird Mulching Facility (321-264-5009) on South Street (SR405). Go past the Lowe’s SR405 entrance then turn LEFT at the first traffic signal. Most other waste items such as carpet, porcelain plumbing fixtures, etc., that are not mentioned above can be dropped off at the Brevard County Transfer Station (321-264-5048) that is also on South Street (SR405), but 0.5 mile past Lowe’s on the same side of the street.
Clearing Vegetation on CSA Property
Our Declaration of Covenants states that “No CSA land may be cleared of any vegetation without prior written permission from the Board of Directors or its designee. Unauthorized clearing of CSA property will result in a hearing, with possible fines and ordered replanting.” This only makes sense, as you would not cut vegetation on someone else’s property without permission first. In order to track this better, we will require anyone seeking permission to cut vegetation on CSA property to fill out an ARC permit. An approved permit must include the CSA manager’s signature, and a copy of the permit will be filed in your ARC file for documentation purposes.
Guide to Living With Alligators in TGO
There are 32 Lakes in The Great Outdoors and all of them are home to alligators. Please keep these points in mind to be safe when alligators could be nearby:
• It is illegal to feed, taunt or harass an alli gator.
• Do not swim or wade in any of our lakes.
• Do not walk near the shorelines and do not walk your pets near shoreline.
• Do not allow your pets to swim, exercise or drink in or near our lakes.
• While alligators can be active at any time, they are most active between dusk and dawn and move during the night to different water sources.
• Please give our alligators the respect and space they deserve.
NOTE: If you come across an aggressive alligator, please contact the CSA Office prior to SNAP and allow us to handle any situation.
KEEP YOUR DISTANCE!
If you have an issue with an alligator, or any animals within TGO, please call: Sandy Juba at 321-543-0502 or Betty Salter at 321-223-8073 or Nancy Clark at 321-292-1434 .
These ladies are experienced in dealing with TGO wildlife.

Emergency Vehicle Protocol
Florida and TGO share the same vehicle and traffic laws as the rest of the US: Everyone must yield to emergency vehicles. If there’s no shoulder on the road, simply stop to allow an emergency vehicle to pass. We have all been driving long enough to know this. Please, when you see emergency vehicles coming in with lights flashing, pull over and let them pass! It could be your loved ones they are here for.

AED Basics (Automated External Defibrillator) Have Someone Call 9-1-1 While You Operate AED
The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that diagnoses incorrect heart rhythm patterns that could potentially be life threatening. The device treats the condition with electrical shocks.
AED use requires minimal training because an electronic voice prompts the user through each step. If you are helping a person who collapsed and you’re unsure if a heart attack is the reason, don’t hesitate to use the AED. Every minute counts.
The device determines if the patient needs an electrical shock or not. Simply place the AED pads on the patient’s bare skin, one on the right upper chest and the other on their lower left side. No one else should be touching the patient because false readings could result. The AED will advise you, the device operator, what to do next.
TGO has seven AEDs located at CSA buildings.

A Storm With No Name by Ed Brown
On Islamorada, an island near the top of the Florida Keys, there lived a young pioneer woman named Mary. Mary lived in a wood frame clapboard house on the Florida Bay side of Islamorada. The year was 1935 and there was a Hurricane bearing down on the Florida Keys, according to Miami Radio News.
The Overseas Highway to Key West was under construction. The builders were World War I vets. This was the time of “The Great Depression" and highway construction in the Florida heat and rainstorms was “no picnic,” but it was a job and it paid well!
Radio News predicted that a strong hurricane would smack the Keys and with many delays, a “Relief Train” was put together in Homestead to rescue the World War I veterans who might be trapped by the storm and bring them north to safety in Miami. The Rescue Train was further delayed several times! Eventually, it headed south over Henry Flagler’s old railroad tracks, which would become a basis for “THE
OVERSEAS HIGHWAY."
Mary had several big palm trees in her yard and an idyllic northwest view of Florida Bay. This 1935 hurricane changed all that! Sea level rose dramatically (15 to 20 feet). It inundated the view and all dry land. Electric lights were all snuffed out and Mary’s “pioneer cottage” was quickly disassembled by 135 mile per hour storm winds that plucked the remaining palms out of the ground… except for one. Mary tied a piece of 3/4 inch hemp line to it and secured the bitter end to her legs and waist before it too was pulled out by wind gusts and sent careening through the night and a hell-ravaged bay. And so it went for endless hours. She slept through a stormy sun rise and the heat of a sun-blistering day still tied to the tree. Higher on the beach, what was left of the palm tree with a badly chafed and bleeding Mary still aboard, ran aground on the blazing white sand beach at Cape Sable. Somehow Mary managed to get untied from the badly weathered palm and crawled higher up the beach to where low, wind-trimmed green, cool palmettos promised shade.
The following morning was sunny, cool and calm. Two teenage boys from the fishing village of Flamingo were sailing and poling their flat-bottomed skiff up the coast, searching for “hurricane treasure." They found the bloody palm log and the knee and elbow tracks leading up the berm. In the shade of the low, green palmettos, they found Mary. The young “pioneer woman” had found eternal peace after the storm. She lay dead in the sand.
The 1935 LABOR DAY Hurricane was its official Weather Bureau name. To me it will forever be “HURRICANE MARY” as a memorial to a tough Florida Pioneer Woman and the weather horror that took her young life and the lives of countless others, south of Homestead, in the Florida Keys.

How do you spell trouble without using any letters? Grande Haven always has some of the best monument decorations! Thanks for making TGO look so good.
It's officially The Dog Days of Summer. Dennis Grondin, with Faith, along with Peter Wehnau and his two best friends, Sophia and Sergei, are almost always at the Dog Park between 4:00 and 5:00 pm, the time when the big dogs get to hang out.

The Manor Pool Hours
A lot of people ask the CSA Courtesy Patrol, when they lock the Manor Pool at night... “Oh, what time does it close?” “Why so early?” Well, the pool hours are posted right by the entry of the pool. These hours were made up by your Board Of Directors, not the CSA Courtesy Patrol - they are just doing their job. So please, don’t shoot the messenger (or in this case, your Courtesy Patrol Officer). Also... the Oak Cove pool is open until 11:00 pm.

St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park
St. Augustine is just an hour and half drive from TGO. Along with the amazing beaches, the beautiful town and city square and the rich history, there is another treasure for nature lovers. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is not only about the alligators! It’s a whole lot more!
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park was founded in 1893 and is one of the oldest zoos in the country. They are accredited with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. You can discover the diverse collection of birds, mammals and reptiles while you explore the park.
From the lemurs of Madagascar to some of the most colorful parrots from the rainforest, this is the zoo for you! Informative and entertaining shows are presented every hour on the hour as you tour the exhibits. Every visit is enjoyable and memorable!
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park has many types of activities for all interests and age groups. Yes, there are lots of alligators, including an Albino Gator and many Crocodiles as well. The Land of Crocodiles requires no passport and is filled with
rare reptiles from Africa, Asia and the Americas – in fact, there are 24 crocodilian species from all over the world!
You can come face-to-face with the 15 foot, 9 inch, 1,250 pound Maximo, the largest animal at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. He is a saltwater crocodile that was hatched in Australia and can be viewed through the underwater viewing window. There is the Albino Alligator from the bayous of Louisiana. These rare and mystical creatures are said to bring good fortune to those who gaze upon them.
There is an impressive list of birds and reptiles from the other side of the world, including the carnivorous Komodo dragon, the world’s largest living lizard. There are the Birds of Africa where you can observe the graceful and so beautiful West African Crowned Cranes interacting with some of the continent’s largest and most impressive avian scaven -

Riddle Answer: A lawsuit.
Story and Photos by Robin Francis
gers and vultures. Marabou storks and Cape Griffon vultures have wingspans over 8 feet wide! It’s interesting to see them flying around the enclosures.
Who doesn’t love a Sloth? Yes! They are there too! They are furry, fascinating and fun! Hoffman’s two-toed Sloths are the zoo’s slowest moving and most topsy-turvy residents. You’ll see them hanging around, upside-down, munching on their favorite fruits and taking lots of naps!
But, my favorite part of the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is the Native Bird Rookery! It is amazing! Native herons, egrets, ibis, spoonbills and wood storks seek the security of the Alligator Swamp to roost and raise their young. During the winter months and into spring and even early summer, the birds are retrieving sticks for nest building, building nests, mating, sitting on eggs and then, finally, taking care of the babies. It’s an amazing sight to see and hear (it gets very loud!) and you can be very close to all of the action as the boardwalk is right along the nesting areas.
Alligators swim beneath the oak branches, keeping tree climbing predators at bay while the board -
walk allows great viewing of nesting activities. This area is most active from March through July.
There is a zipline called Crocodile Crossing, Zip through the Zoo, which is an aerial adventure course. It is a challenging course where you climb and zip over 24 species of living crocodiles. You can gaze down on the Birds of Africa and zip across the lagoon with adult American Alligators right under your toes! Yikes! At the Crocodile Crossing, you can participate in the Python Challenge, a 40-foot controlled freefall and climbing wall adventure utilizing the newest technology in adventure challenge courses. Participants must be at least 8 years old, over 52” tall and weigh less than 250 pounds. The zipline is an additional admission price.
There are single day and summer week-long zoo camps specializing in Rainforest Romp (learning about the rainforest and those that call it home), Nature’s Nasties (the yuk part of science), Feasts for the Beasts (animal diets) and many other weeklong learning camps at the Alligator Farm. Prices for these can be found online. Continued...

The curse of the
No-See-Um
We used to own an eight pound Yorky who our neighbors and friends would testify to being the worse ankle-biter on the planet - but he couldn't hold a candle to these sneaky, annoying, micro-size ankle assassins you'll find throughout TGO. Especially now. This is the time of year No-see-ums are at their peak - warm summer months with a supporting cast of thunder showers.
It's fun to go around TGO and take a look at everybody's legs. I mean, we all wear shorts and most of our get-alongsticks look like they were used as dart boards. Red dots and spots and once you scratch them they turn into a red welt that itches and itches and itches. And it doesn't matter if you are wearing pants, these sneaky ankle ninjas have a knack for finding the tiniest opening between your pants and your socks. They have a keen sense to find any bare piece of skin. So let's take a look at why these bugs are so unpopular. What are no-see-ums? As the name suggests, they are insects that are so small they are difficult to see. They are biting machines that feed on vertebrate blood. Floridians are not the only ones who get to enjoy their persistent, pestering ways, these bugs can be found pretty much all over the United States - but not as bad in the northern states where it's colder. They can be found all over the world though, except for the Arctic and Antarctic.
There are more than 5,000 species of these insects. They have a complete metamorphosis with four distinct life stages, just like a butterfly. These include egg, larva, pupa, and the mature imago or adult. No-see-ums have a life cycle of up to six weeks... unless you're quick at smacking them.
No-see-ums have special mouthparts designed for cutting skin, something similar to a chainsaw! They also inject saliva under your skin, which causes blood to pool there. That makes it easier for the insect to drink the blood, but it also causes an itchy allergic reaction... the one most of us are all very familiar with.
No-see-ums are commonly called biting midges, punkies, biting gnats, sand flies, or sand fleas. Now, I know you won't remember this par,t but they are a family of flies called Ceratopogonidae. Their superfamily is Chironomoidea, Infraorder Culicomorpha. This infraorder also includes mosquitos. They are of the suborder Nematocera and the order Diptera. Their class is Insecta, the insects; phylum Arthropoda, invertebrates with an exoskeleton. See... told ya.
They generally range in size from one to three millimeters in length... yet they're still invisible! No-see-ums have three body segments - a head, thorax, and abdomen - six legs, and wings. They are usually black, brown, or grey in color. Some have stripes. Like mosquitos, females feeding on blood develop a translucent distended abdomen, and you can see the blood inside them or on your leg when you swat them.
Similar to mosquitos, both the males and females of the species feed on nectar from flowers. In fact, nectar is their favorite food! For those women who like to wear smelly, flower scented lotions - you guessed it, you have become a No-see-um smorgasbord!
30
TGO is home to a lot of different insects, but none are as detested as the pesty little No-see-um.
Actual photo of a No-see-um taken with the most powerful Titan Krios, a 12-foot cryogenic electron microscope magnified 10,000,000x.
They like long grass, swamps and non-moving water sources such as puddles or ponds. (Remind you of anywhere?) At night, they may gather around artificial lights and search out warm-blooded vertebrates LIKE US! No-see-ums are the fashion police of the insect kingdom. They have impeccable taste when it comes to choosing their victims. There’s no use trying to flee from them, as they are typically present in large numbers, particularly when the sun is rising or setting!
Most of these bloodsuckers are female, and when she is ready to reproduce she will have a blood meal to help nourish her eggs. Oh yeah, these biting midges can lay upwards of 400 eggs at a time and repeat this process about six or seven times during the female’s lifetime. Just think how many blood relatives you actually have!
Now my wife claims that these tiny terrors don't bother her at all. It's like she has a force field around her. Some scientists will tell you that certain people are immune to the bite of No-see-ums. It could be the copious amounts of garlic they consume, or their excessive caffeine or energy drink intake that creates a biochemical reaction in the body that repels them. My thoughts are maybe there is not enough blood in her alcohol system... but they bite the heck out of me, so that theory can't be true.
So how do we avoid them?
• A lot of us have screen rooms which provide a safe place to enjoy the outdoors - but a lot of these rooms do not have anti-No-see-um screens. I knew they made a screen that a 60 pound dog could bounce off of, but they actually make a micro mesh screen that No-see-ums can not penetrate.
• There are full body suits made of a fine mesh screen that you can wear when outdoors. Effective but not stylish.
• Apply insect repellents that contain DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus to exposed skin. Follow the instructions on the product label and reapply as necessary. Consider using repellent formulations specifically designed to repel No-See-Ums.
• They are most active during dawn and dusk. If possible, limit your outdoor activities during these times to minimize the chances of encountering them. The Blue Heron bar is a good place to go.
• No-See-Ums are attracted to strong scents, including perfumes, scented lotions, and hair products. Avoid using heavily scented products when spending time outdoors.
Don't Scratch!
Scratching the bites can cause the bite to develop an infection, making the situation even worse. Applying a cold compress or ice to the bite will soothe itching and minimize swelling. To help relieve the itching, you can apply a calamine lotion or other over-the-counter cream.
You can also clean/scrub the area with a hot wash cloth then pour some rubbing alcohol on the bites. You'll find this actually stings a lot worse than the bite - until it doesn't.
Top: Completely covering your entire body in stylish bubble wrap is just one way to protect yourself from the dreaded No-see-um.
Above: Scratching your No-see-um bites can create a condition known as "Pizza Ankle." These red pepperoni looking lesions can take weeks to go away. Always best not to scratch!
Note: All the facts in this article are true. Photos may be subject to someone's imagination.

The White Sands Buddhist Center
A Haven of Tranquility and Spiritual Enlightenment
Tucked away in a secluded area of Mims, the White Sands Buddhist Center is a magnificent sight you almost have to see to believe.
The Center has been open since 2005. Originally a humble retreat, the center has grown over the years, attracting a diverse community of practitioners from around the world.
The center sees about 100 visitors a day during peak times. During the summer months, when it heats up, there are fewer guests.
There are several massive statues that sit before a temple, a house for monks, a social dining hall, a gift shop and meditation areas.
The massive statues include a "Nirvana Buddha," which depicts Siddhārtha, the original Buddha whose teachings are the basis of most Buddhist practices. The Nirvana Buddha shows Siddhārtha depicted at age 80 just before his death. The statue weighs 40 tons and is about 30 feet long, massive in all respects.
The main statue of the Buddha sitting upright in the posture of meditation was carved in Vietnam from blocks of granite. It has a height of 35 feet and weights over 200 tons. It has been at the monastery here since March 2013.
A younger Siddhārtha, depicted at age 35, is a 35 foot tall statue that weighs about 200 tons and is the largest Buddha statue in the state of Florida. It was carved in Vietnam from blocks of granite. and has been at the monastery since March 2013.
It could very well be the most peaceful place in Brevard County.
Across the pond stands Mother Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of peace and compassion. Avalokitesvara is a female Buddhist figure who greets Buddhists in the afterlife, helping the dead achieve nirvana or become reborn. The statue is 32 feet tall and weighs around 60 tons. She is framed by tall pillars and palm trees, a centerpiece of the sprawling facility.
The 30-acre site just off Aurantia Road is near silent, except for the trickling of a nearby fountain, chirping birds and a soft breeze rustling through the trees. A series of statues rise nearly three stories in with intricate displays of flowering plants and paved stairways leading to their bases. The center is open daily from dawn until dusk and all are welcome, tours of the facility Wednesday through Sunday.
32
But the White Sands Center is so much more than just monuments or a backdrop for pictures. It's a place for meditation and enlightenment for their members of the Buddhist temple, many of whom are Vietnamese. Members travel from all over the county and as far as Daytona and Orlando to reach the grounds, which hosts a service each Sunday. The services are announced by a monk who rings a 2,200-pound bell for a half hour, calling members to the temple. At 9:50 a.m. the services begin and run about two hours, including a meditation, Dharma talk and a vegetarian lunch. Shoes must be taken off before entering the temple and members sit on the floor.
The White Sands Buddhist Center hosts a variety of events and activities throughout the year, catering to both beginners and experienced practitioners.
Regular meditation retreats are organized, offering participants an opportunity to cultivate mindfulness, inner peace, and self-awareness. Guided by experienced meditation teachers, these retreats are designed to accommodate practitioners of all levels, from beginners to advanced.
Esteemed Buddhist scholars and teachers visit the center to deliver enlightening dharma talks and teachings. These sessions provide profound insights into Buddhist philosophy, psychology, and practical application of teachings in daily life.

The White Sands Buddhist Center
Tours are available per request and should be arranged prior to arrival. All are welcome to visit from dawn to dusk. Meditation services are held every Sunday from 10 am to 12 pm, which is given in both English and Vietnamese.

Ride Your Bicycle To The White Sands Buddhist Center
Riders who don’t want to deal with traffic and traffic lights in downtown Titusville can start their journey from the parking area at Draa Field Stormwater Park. (Corner of Draa Road and N. Dixie Avenue)
North of Draa Road, the trail parallels US 1 across from Parrish Hospital and college, crossing a few minor roads before it slips behind a small convenience store and past Brevard Lumber and comes to the traffic light at Dairy Rd.
The next stretch of the bike path also parallels US 1 closely, passing the old Nevins Groves packing house and Industrial Steel on the edge of Mims. This is where the trail diverges from US 1 to ride alongside Old Dixie Highway through residential Mims.
The bike path crosses SR 46 just two blocks west of US 1. Continuing through Mims at a diagonal that passes a school, crosses Kelly Rd, and continues to take the trail farther and farther away from US 1 at a northeast angle, you leave the residential area at the back entrance to a golf course.
Past the golf course gate, there is no longer a paralleling road along the bike path.
Pass the 8 mile marker here, as the trail becomes a nicely forested corridor. Between the trees on the left, a large farm sits off to the west.
Crossing Burkholm Rd, the trail goes across a bridge over a stream. Your surroundings become more wooded and wild. You soon come to a sand pine scrub on the Atlantic Coastal Ridge.
Arrive at the back entrance to the White Sands Buddhist Center.

Funny Thing Is… Heat is a Four Letter Word
Heat and love are four letter words. Yes, they are, but you should know up front that I love the heat. Yes, I'm one of those people who defines winter as anything below 80 degrees. So why are heat and love four letter words? Count them. No seriously, people swear more about the heat that I love than anything else. There is an Al Gore parody that goes: "One day this summer it will be the hottest day of the whole year." Well, that day is August. Pick any day in August and someone is swearing at the heat. Now, as many of you know, I double as a DJ and the majority of weddings are held in the summer. What you may not know is most bridal couples want their ceremony OUTSIDE in the summer. What? Why? I understand the beauty of summer with flowers and foliage in full bloom, but come on! The heat index is 104! What are you doing out there? Are you trying to set the Guinness World Record for heat stroke? When couples tell me their ceremony will be outside and I remind them of the heat in summer, they always respond with, "Oh, it will be a short ceremony." Yeah, well, your 10 minutes of ceremony are 25 minutes toward heat stroke for your guests who showed up 15 minutes before the ceremony because they wanted to be seated before you say "I do." Sometimes they respond saying the wedding will be in evening when it's cooler. Yeah, did you know the only reason it's cooler is because thunderstorms pass through around 3:00 pm with thousands of lightening strikes and, by the way, the humidity is now 100%. Guests who survive the ceremony proceed to a beautifully air-conditioned reception. Problem is, they walk in looking like the fire department just treated them like a four alarm fire. The bride, who usually wears a lot of makeup, now looks like the bride of Frankenstein with all the black streaks from her eyes, while the groom in his sweat-drenched tuxedo smells more like the Miami Dolphins locker room than the cologne he put on an hour ago. And now it's the DJ's job to make everybody happy, and THAT'S where I earn my money. Man, I just love the heat!###

From Your CSA Team...
Guidelines For Tenant Registration By Owners
As you make plans this summer to rent or have a guest stay on your property, please remember they must be registered with the CSA Office .
1. All tenants must be registered with the CSA Office in order to be entered into the Gatehouse System. If you are leasing your property or if you are letting a guest use your property in your absence, they need to be registered with the CSA Office.
2. Why do they need to be registered? There are several reasons why:
a. If your tenant wants to call in a visitor and the tenant is not registered as residing within TGO, then the visitor will not be allowed entrance because as far as the Security Officer knows, the tenant doesn’t reside at TGO.
b. If the tenant is not registered and there is an emergency situation where the tenant needs to be notified, the CSA would be unable to contact them because they are not registered and we will not know how to contact the tenant.
c. If your tenant wants to receive mail (UPS/FedEx/Priority Mail/medicine), the mail will not be accepted at the Mail Facility because they are not registered as living at TGO.
3. What information does the CSA Office need?
a. Tenant Name(s)
b. TGO Address
c. Dates of Arrival/Departure
d. Phone number
e. E-mail Address (optional)
4. Your tenant must get a gate pass from the Guard Gate. The tenant may stop by the CSA Office to get maps, pool wrist bands, TV channel line-up, “The Happenings” newsletter, etc. Also, if the guest extends their stay, or departs early, their gate pass expiration date must also be updated. You, the owner, must notify the CSA Office beforehand to have these changes made or the tenant will automatically be removed from the system along with any other applicable information.
