On is Black AMA Pro Flat Track is a national motorcycle racing series and highly regarded as the most competitive
form of flat track racing in the world. Tracing its roots to the early 1920s, the first sanctioned National Championship was held on a one-mile dirt oval track in Toledo, Ohio. Since then, the sport has evolved to new heights while keeping a “true racing” appeal to local and international fans alike. Commonly referred to as “dirt track” racing, AMA Pro Flat Track competes from coast-to-coast in the United States. The series plays host to some of the most exciting race action while remaining one of the most traditional forms of motorcycle racing. The “Rolling Thunder Show” pits 18 professional motorcycle racers against each other in a 25-lap main event where fans watch them race at speeds up to 130 mph and then slide their motorcycles into the oval turns within inches of each other.

AMA Pro Flat Track boasts a steep history of National Champions starting with Joe Leonard (98) in 1954. Gary Nixon (9) won back to-back titles in 1968 and ‘69. Chris Carr (4) racked up a total of seven Championships in 1992, 1998 and 2001 through 2005. Scott Parker (1) is the all-time leader in AMA Pro Flat Track Championships with a total of nine titles spread out through the late 1980s and 1990s.

Series Overview With its roots deeply planted in American tradition, pitting man against machine with bar-to-bar race action, AMA Pro Flat Track hosts some of the best racing fans will ever witness.
Multi-Brand Racing Riders with both single and twin cylinder powerplants like Harley-Davidson, KTM, Ducati, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha all draft past, slide around and go toe-to-toe for the win each race weekend.
Tradition Keeping with tradition, all competitors ride custom built motorcycles that feature no form of traction control or technological rider aid. In order to be named the Grand National Champion, prospective riders must use their skill and riding talent to be competitive at four different track layouts.

The Fans AMA Pro Flat Track fans are some of the most loyal fans a sport can have. Each race includes both new and returning fans. Many returning fans have been to their respective race venue multiple times in past seasons, as they find it rich in racing history. Not only do fans ride their motorcycles to the races, they watch the action on television, the internet via AMA Pro Live Streaming and engage with the riders and the series on social media channels like facebook and twitter.

Safety Measures With riders risking it all for the win, AMA Pro Racing takes big strides in ensuring on-track safety and will tailor its safety measures to each race track it visits. These measures include AirFences, ambulances, corner marshals, hay bales, fire extinguishers and track preparation.
AirFence Designed with motorcycle rider safety in mind, the AMA Pro AirFence’s purpose is to protect riders from hitting hard walls or obstructions off-track. It is an inflatable soft barrier placed in front of walls and railings. AMA Pro Racing’s safety coordinator and assistant deploy up to a quarter mile of AirFence to protect riders.
In addtion to protecting riders, signage can be velcroed to
the front for advertising purposes. At-track staff or volunteers and proper loading equipment are required for deployment prior to the event and post-race take down.
Ambulances Three advanced life support ambulances are required to provide at-track medical assistance in the event of a rider incident.
Corner Marshals AMA Pro Racing requires a sufficient number of corner marshals to monitor and report on-track issues. These issues include, but are not limited to motorcycle malfunctions, crashes, fluid on track and debris on track. Each corner marshal is equipped with an AMA Pro radio to communicate with racing officials.
Hay Bales Used leading up to and after the AirFence, hay bales act as a secondary level of rider protection against walls and obstructions.
Fire Extinguishers Fire extinguishers are required for possible occurence of fire both within the paddock area and on track. Each corner worker station is equipped with the proper equipment.
Track Preparation Depending on the track surface, AMA Pro Racing officials will discuss with track grounds maintenance officials as to the equipment and chemicals needed to provide a safe and low-dust race track. This includes water trucks with light mist application, motorized sweepers, truck and trailer for race bike pickup and dust control agents such as calcium chloride.

Timing and Scoring Because the racing is so tight, you can expect multiple riders to cross the start/finish line separated by only thousands of a second. AMA Pro Racing has several measures in place to ensure that the most accurate results are shown. We utilize the industry standard in professional motorsports timing and scoring equipment, AMB MyLaps Timing stems, here is how it works...
Detection Loop It is the Promoters responsibility to install a thin cable at the start/finish line. This cable is connected to AMA Pro Racing’s Timing System where it will be used to record competitor lap times. If a loop is not already installed at the track, our team will work with the promoter to install one properly. In addition a backup detection loop may be installed for precautionary purposes in the event that the primary detection loop fails.
Transponder Each race bike has a transponder mounted to the front fork leg. Each time the rider and his motorcycle pass over the loop, data is sent to AMA Pro Racing’s timing and scoring system.
Finish Line Camera A start/finish line camera is in place to verify placement in the situation of a tie or very close finish.
Technical Inspection Each rider’s race bike is required to go through technical inspection. This process allows AMA Pro Racing officials to mount the transponder, physically inspect the race bike for safety related issues, and collect rider data like sponsor names and motorcycle information. This is relayed to the timing and scoring officials where it can be displayed next to lap time information.
Timing and Scoring Officials Each event sees five or more AMA Pro Racing officials verifying, reviewing, and monitoring the timing and scoring system. Hand scorers are also on hand.
AMA Pro Live Seamlessly integrated with timing and scoring, AMA Pro Live instantly transmits race information and event information to www.amaprolive.com. From there, fans can follow the action by viewing live timing and live streaming with play-by-plays via twitter. Live timing is also available to smartphone owners with Android and Apple devices via the AMA Pro Flat Track app.
FansChoice.tv FansChoice.tv is a collaborative effort between AMA Pro Racing, the International Motorsports Association, and NASCAR to live stream races and other motorsports events that many fans might not otherwise have a chance to see. FansChoice.tv will be the official home for AMA Pro Road Racing and AMA Pro Flat Track events in 2014. The site also will provide coverage of selected IMSA and NASCAR’s touring and weekly series events.
