To all attorneys licensed to practice in the State of Texas: Tomorrow, you will receive an email from __________________________ (entitled “Annual Texas State Bar Dues – ACTION REQUIRED”) that contains information for renewing your annual State Bar dues. The Firm will pay your annual bar dues and one section. Dues for additional sections will be charged to your personal account. Included on your Texas State Bar renewal form is a request to make an “Access to Justice” (ATJ) Contribution. We urge you to support civil legal aid in Texas. The Supreme Court’s suggested contribution is $150, but you may choose to contribute a different amount. If you do not wish to contribute, you must affirmatively opt out by designating so on the form; otherwise, the suggested contribution of $150 will be deducted from your personal account. If the ATJ section of your form is left blank, we will consider that it was your intention to contribute, and $150 will be deducted from your personal account accordingly. The Texas Access to Justice Commission is committed to ensuring that all Texans have meaningful access to the civil justice system. We are appealing to each of you to make an ATJ contribution. Here are a few facts to consider that will hopefully encourage you to give generously: • There are 5.3 million Texans who qualify for legal aid. • 8% of licensed Texas attorneys contribute to the ATJ Fund. • Only 10% of the civil legal needs of low-income Texans are met. • Our 2018 goal is to have full participation by our attorneys. Full participation from the current Texas attorneys at the recommended $150 level would result in $---------------. The deadline for your renewal is ________________________. If you have any questions regarding the payment of Texas State Bar dues or the ATJ contribution, please contact _______________________.
