Poodle Breeds
The three basic types of poodles are standard, miniature, and toy poodles. The three types of poodles all share a similarity, the length of their body is as the height of their withers. Standard poodles are medium-to-large-sized dogs. They have a square appearance. Miniature poodles have long, straight muzzles. Their oval eyes are either black or brown. The ears of a toy poodle are long and flat, and hang close to its head. Their tails are set high and carried high. The three types of poodles all are a bit different.

A standard poodle.
DID YOU KNOW? The standard poodle is one of the wold’s most ancient breed of dogs.
Poodle Breeds
Standard poodles have a bigger body size than the miniature poodle and the
toy poodle. Miniature poodles come next, and toy poodles are the smallest poodle.
You can recognize the poodle breeds visually, but if you are not sure, you can double check by measuring them. Usually, the length of a toy poodle is 10 inches or less; miniature poodles are 11-15 inches, and standard poodles are usually 15 or more inches. Remember their measurements, and you will know a poodle by its length.

History of a Poodle- Retrieving
A poodle swimming.
Ancestors of poodles were acknowledged to be good swimmers. Poodles were first originated in Germany to swim and retrieve game from lakes and rivers. The meaning for the German word ‘Pudelhund’ is probably “the dog that splashes about”. They are still known for their great swimming ability nowadays.
History of a Poodle- Haircut Poodles are well-known from their haircuts. Surprisingly, those “stupid, foo foo” haircuts serve a purpose. The pom pom parts protects the vital joints and the organs of poodles. The shaved part makes the poodle swim with more buoyancy and speed. So when you see a foo foo poodle from now on, don’t let that cover their amazing ability to swim.
The gait of the poodle is a straightforward trot. It should have a "light springy action" with "strong hindquarters drive". The same should apply when poodles are swimming.
Shedding A poodle with matted hair.
Poodles have a different way of shedding than other dogs. When they are shedding, instead of falling off when it s released, it becomes tangled, and promotes the formation of mats. Without proper care for its fur, it might lead to matting. Brush your poodle daily to remove shed hair and smooth out the tangles. Even if their way of shedding is different, it is easier to manage.
