Body

Did You Know? The blob fish is voted the ugliest animal on Earth. The reason for that is because they are the mascot for the Ugly Animal Preservation Society.

The blob fish is a very fat, ugly animal. These ugly animals are usually shorter than 30cm. Underwater they look like jelly- like mass of flesh because their skin is floating around underwater. But if you take them out of the water they look so ugly that they are officially voted the ugliest animal on this planet. The reason they look like they are frowning faces on surface is because all their cheek fat is going down. This is for there isn t any water to let the cheek float. They look very ugly.

We do not know much about the insides of a blob fish, but there are bits of facts we do know. For example even if the volcanoes deep underwater might produce gas so animals like blob fish could float, they are slightly less dense than the water around them so they are able to get a decent buoyancy. î “ey are cold blooded animals and they barely muscles, so they look like very lazy animals. î “ese are the facts that we do know about them, but there are still mysteries that we need to unravel about them.

This is a drawing of a fisher boat and fishermen trawling. This dangerous way of fishing is endangering these lazy fishes because when you trawl you drag a very long net on the sea floor.

Habitat

Psychrolutes Marcidus The Blob fish has a very long complicated scientific name. Their scientific name is Psychrolutes Marcidus. Try saying it.

These animals live at amazing depths. The blob fish live between 600 to 1200 meters (2000 to 3900feet) beneath the surface of the ocean. These aesthetically challenged animals are located at the South Eastern shores of, Tasmania, Australia, and New Zealand. Because there are volcanoes deep down on the ocean floor they are able to heat themselves up. They also need the deep underwater so they could get their food. It is a miracle they could survive deep in the ocean.

Did you know? The blob fish looks ugly on land because their fat is not floating around to form their weak muscles.

The blob fish’s skin is great for them. Their skin is able to protect them from pressure that is about 12 times stronger than the surface pressure. As I said before, the blob fish found a way to provide themselves without the gas of the volcanoes underwater. Instead of using the gas, Their body is slightly less than the water around it. Thanks to this method they are able to get itself decent buoyancy. They found a way to survive even outside their usual habitat thanks to this skill of buoyancy. They skin has supremely adapted to their surroundings.

Diet Diet

The blob fish eats a lot of things. They eat small things like sea crabs, sea pens, small particles, and anything that is edible. They would just eat even eat lethal things as long it goes in its mouth, this is one of the reason of why the blob fish dies. But the most shocking fact is that the blob fish would eat its own baby if it blobs by into its mouth! When a blob fish eats they do not care what the food is, they would just put it in there mouth then they would just eat it. The blob fish’s diet is amazing.

Did you know? The blob fish doesn't mean to eat their babies, they just eat without thinking or checking.

The way blob fish captures its food is very amazing. They hunt by first staying at an area. Then if a tasty treat comes by, the blob fish moves forward by using a little bit of muscle and goes to its prey. They eat their prey by swallowing or chewing it a little bit with their teeth-less mouth. This is how they eat their prey.

Did you know? The blob fish would even eat a plant which could be poisonous as long he could eat it! For example the blob fish would eat a sea pen called Cnidaria, it is a sea pen that paralyzes the creatures that touch it.
