A Cheetah Hunting Like all other big cats, a Cheetah’s survival depend’s on it’s hunting. Unlike lions, hyenas and other cats, Cheetahs cannot pull their claws into their paws. That helps them always be ready to hunt right away. It also makes them run faster. When they run, their claws go into the earth so that they won’t slip. Compared to other cats his size, Cheetahs have larger lungs, hearts and vascular systems that also help them run very fast. If Cheetahs can run in their full speed for a long time, there would be no way that they would fail on their hunt. But as much as they run that fast, their energy run’s out that fast as well. Because they cannot run for a long time, they have to be close enough to start chasing the food. The best distance to be apart from the animal is one hundred feet. As fast as the speed of a Cheetah run, it’s energy run’s out that fast. They can only run in their top speed for three seconds.
Half the time a Cheetah hunt’s, they do not succeed. But if they do succeed, they would pull the food up a tree. The first reason is; hyenas may steal their food. The second reason is to rest in the shades that the leaves make. Sometimes, they will rest about half an hour before they start eating their meal. Like all other cats, Cheetahs have good sense of smell and good hearing. But they have especially good eye sight. When they are hungry, it would go up on a high rock or land and look for animals to eat. When it find’s it, it would go hunt it. Unlike other cats, Cheetahs don’t hunt at night. They are not nocturnal. Because it is cool at dawn in Africa, they like hunting at that time. Sometimes,when a Cheetah is hunting, lions and hyenas are watching. When a Cheetah succeed’s, the lion or hyena tries to steal the food. Unlike lions and hyenas, Cheetahs don’t hunt in packs. They live alone. But they do hunt and live in small groups. When they hunt, they usually hunt small animals. Even if they are the fastest animal in the world, they don’t succeed in it’s hunt all the time.
Out Numbered Cheetahs Cheetahs are becoming out numbered because of other predators and people hunting them down. You may see it that it is because of lions. lions have killed a lot of Cheetahs. Because of lions they are out numbered. But in small areas in eastern Africa, they can be found very usually. It is also poachers fault. Because people like Cheetah’s fur patterns. People hunt them down which is making them an endangered species. A long time ago, people caught Cheetahs to help them hunt for other animals. Now, people tend to hunt Cheetahs just for their beautiful pattern on their skin. Because of people hunting them and other predators killing them, there are only 7,000 to 10,000 Cheetahs left in the world. We hope that there is a way to protect Cheetahs.
Cheetah Cubs Cheetah cubs can be a pain while they hunt but still can help a lot. When a Cheetah leaves her cubs to hunt, she MUST keep them well hidden. Lions have killed a lot of Cheetah cubs. You may see it that it is the lions fault Cheetahs are almost extinct. Hyenas would also kill Cheetah cubs. When a Cheetah cub is six month old, they learn how to hunt by their mother. When they go hunting, they might fail because of the cub. When the cubs are supposed to help the mother hunt, it might just follow her around and spoil it.
But the cubs are still Cheetahs future.

A Cheetah’s Meal A Cheetah’s meal is a bit different from other big cats. A Cheetah usually eat’s small or medium sized animals like impalas, hares, or wildebeest calves. A Cheetah only needs to dink once three or four days. Food saves the life of a Cheetah.
When a Cheetah is so fast, all it‘s four feet can be off the ground! Lions and other big cats roar. Unlike them Cheetahs don’t roar. They can growl and hiss like the others but they also have their own sound. Instead of roaring, they make a bird-like chirping sound.
