WELCOME TO 5POINT
The 5Point Film Crew © Carl Zoch
letter from the crew Welcome to the 8th annual 5Point Film Festival! Thank you for joining us for four days of inspiring stories and engaging, thoughtful conversation. 5Point continues to evolve, stretch, and reimagine itself. It is our aim to continue to inspire you to do the same; to push your personal boundaries, help you find what adventure means to you, and be inspired to get after it! The 5Point crew has been busy this past year traveling the country producing twelve one-night shows as part of our On the Road series, and launching two-day regional festival hubs in Somerville, MA, Bellingham, WA, Asheville, NC, and Minneapolis, MN. This is an effort to help 5Point become a more sustainable non-profit over the next three years, and ensure that we can continue to inspire the Roaring Fork Valley and like-minded communities into the future. Carbondale is our Flagship event where our season starts, and our home. That will never change. It is our hope that we can continue to inspire audiences around the country and that our efforts out there come back to positively impact our community here. For the 2015 Flagship event, we are bringing you over 35 special guests, and 45 of the best short adventure films scheduled into 6 programs. We also have 12 FREE Participate activities, 4 FREE community parties, and everyone’s favorite Van Life Rally is back to kick it all off on Thursday at 5PM. You will also see music, art, and performance around the Festival, as we celebrate some of our favorite local artists. Staff picks? Well, of course we encourage you to buy a pass and not miss a thing. Each program is filled with a diverse selection of great stories. Ones that will bring you to your knees and keep you on the edge of your seat; there is something for everyone here, each day and each night. What’s new? A lot. But don’t miss our Sunday program, which begins at 11AM with Out Living It, a free and open-to-thepublic panel discussion co-hosted by First Descents with 6 special guests who are fighting, have survived or are living with the hurdle of major illness. We will dig into how the outdoors plays an important role in healing and inspiring the fight. Follow that with our Community Brunch at 12PM with Aspen Valley Land Trust, and wrap up the weekend with a very special 5Point Film presentation by Tommy Caldwell on his recent ascent of the Dawn Wall in Yosemite. All this will add up to an epic Sunday finale. Ready? Set? Cheers, The 5Point Film Crew

OUR MISSION
our mission The 5Point Film Festival inspires adventure of all kinds, connects generations through shared experience and respect, engages passion with a conscience, and educates through film. 5Point Film directly gives back to and inspires high school students through our Dream Project scholarship program. This program offers five outstanding students the chance to explore their personal boundaries and dreams. The winning students best exemplify 5Point Film’s five guiding principles and will receive a $1,500 scholarship to embark on a life-changing opportunity, give back to a community, and follow their passions. The 5Point Film Fund supports emerging filmmakers and thoughtful adventure stories through small monetary grants and a network of support. Over the last 4 years, 5Point has supported over 10 film projects, many of which have gone on to win awards and tour in festivals and theaters all over the world. 5Point Film Festival is a 501(c)3 non-profit  and is a proud member of 1% for the Planet.Â
our five points The 5Point Film Festival is built on five guiding principles: respect, commitment, humility, purpose, and balance. We believe these same principles also form the foundation for individuals who lead lives of adventure and connect all of us who share an elemental passion to explore and expand our boundaries.
respect For each other, for the environment, for the experience and for the knowledge we inherit from those who inspire and teach us.
commitment To overcome fear and give ourselves completely to the challenge at hand while leading a vital existence and never allowing ourselves to become complacent.
humility To assume the courage and the discipline to listen to our intuition and not our egos, always mindful of our place in the natural order.
purpose To muster the motivation and conviction necessary to pursue our highest aspirations in the face of adversity.
balance To maintain our focus and energy in life, in nature and on the journeys we undertake while things we cannot control shift around us. 5

JEANNE MACKOWSKI With more than 18 years of experience in the ski/outdoor industry, Jeanne Mackowski recently traded her dream job as Vice President of Marketing at Aspen Skiing Company for a more balanced life of skiing, riding, running, and playing with her children, Grace and Curtis, and her husband, Len. He served on the Board of Directors of the Access Fund and the Colorado Rocky Mountain School and continues to volunteer with various national and local organizations. TOMMY CALDWELL Tommy’s dad taught him to embrace fear and doubt and turn them into inspiration. Given this attitude, Tommy has established some of the hardest routes in the country and free climbed 13 routes on El Capitan in Yosemite. He believes difficult journeys, with little chance for success, teach him the most. This attitude is no better exemplified than by his first free ascent of the Dawn Wall in January 2015, and his first ascent of the Fitz Traverse in Patagonia in February 2014.
BAYBE CHAMP Born and raised in Oakland California, Tyrone ‘Baybe Champ’ Stevenson Jr. launched a movement in his community on two wheels. JASON + ANDY DORAIS Growing up in Indiana far away from the mountains, Jason and Andy Dorais moved out to Utah as fast as they could and never looked back. With the Wasatch Range as their daily play ground, Jason and Andy both work as ER doctors in Salt Lake City. Balancing family, professional work with time in the mountains on skis and on foot requires a fast and light approach. This has led to some exciting days trying to climb and ski big peaks like Mount Rainier or the Grand Teton in a morning to be back by lunch. At this stage of life they don’t have the time to go on expeditions, so the Dorais find ways to fit in the fun every day.
LYNN HILL One of the first successful women in the sport, Lynn Hill shaped rock climbing for women and became a public spokesperson, helping climbing gain wider popularity and arguing for gender equality. She is a sponsored athlete for the Patagonia gear and clothing company and owns a small business that offers climbing courses.

POLARTEC® POWER WOOL™ Impossible Made Possible. Blending natural wool with synthetic fibers increases fabric performance, but reduces overall comfort and efficiency. Polartec ® Power Wool ™ is the first natural-synthetic fabric that combines the benefits of each fiber in a single fabric. This fuses these two distinct surface structures side by side, positioning the comfort of merino wool next to skin while the strength of advanced synthetics faces out against the elements. This new technique provides optimal wicking, breathability, odor control, and lasting durability.
