TheVampire The vampire bat is a type of bat that doesn’t eat fruit. Instead, it feeds on blood. This type of bat is nocturnal (Unlike other bats who feed on fruit.) Its nickname is “The vampire”. Most people are terrified of the vampire bat. But really, the vampire bat usually only feeds on animals that are sleeping. Vampire bats are normal animals, not vampires.

What’s for supper?
Bats normally feed on sleeping animals. They insert their fangs into the animal, and then suck out the blood. They don’t necessarily “Suck” blood, They lap up blood with their tongue. But when they drink blood, they have to be cautious to NOT wake the animal, or else the animal would start moving around, then it would be extremely hard to lap up blood. Most people fear the bats drinking human blood, but when humans sleep, they toss and turn so the bat would not be able to drink human blood. Vampire bats do not eat more than ten drops of blood. Ten drops of blood would probably last an entire week. Vampire bats are the ONLY mammals that feed ENTIRELY on blood.

About the Author Vienna was born in 2003, in San Francisco, California, and stayed there until she reached the age of 4 years old. Vienna moved to Beijing, China in 2007, stayed in Beijing for a year, and started her passion for piano. In 2008 she moved to Shanghai, China, she attended Shanghai American School, which is an international school in Puxi, Shanghai, China, and continued her passion for piano.
