How Cars Work How the Engine Works Most cars run with an engine called the internal combustion engine. The engine have an object called the cylinder. In the cylinder, gas creates a small explosion in the cylinder. The cylinder pushes another part called the piston down. Then the piston’s motion makes the engine work. When you push the pedal, it lets more gas into the cylinder. The car needs motor oil because there will be a lot of moving parts in the engine. It cleans the engine, reduces friction, and it prevents the engine from overheating. The batteries in the car are bigger versions of batteries in our house.

Modern Cars Hybrid Cars A hybrid car run with a combination of gas and electricity. This car is environment-friendly. Let’s see what this hybrid car can do. The electric motor never has to be recharged because the gas engine burns gas for producing electricity when the car has low battery. The electric motor also helps to charge by using a feature called regenerative braking. Regenerative braking converts the cars motion into electricity. Also, a hybrid engine is smaller than a normal car. It produces less pollution and it gives the car better milage. A smaller engine is less powerful, so the electric motor also helps the gas engine to have more speed.

accidents. Their are two things that makes the car safe. The airbag can protect you from a accident. When you crash, your body has to absorb the impact of that crash. The airbag puts a cushion to protect you. An airbag senses the crash and it inflates immediately. The airbag inflates at the speed of 240 kph. They can hurt small kids. Small kids are meant to be sitting in the back seat. It is safer in the back seat. You also need a seat belt when your in a car. The seat belt strains you. Kids also need child seats. The child seats can prevent kids from choking on to the seat belt. You should probably have a child seat until you 12 years old.

History of Cars The first automobiles were expensive, and it took a long time to build. They didn’t look anything like the cars today. Then in 1913, Henry Ford made the car using the assembly line. He didn’t actually invent the car. He made cars get built faster and cheaper. Since then, all sorts of people were able to buy cars. Now, more and
