EDUCATION

When I was a child my adorable hobbies were painting and making models instead. I wanted to be an Architect. I needed to create better urban spaces for human beings.

My dream helped me graduate from the Ural State University of Architecture and Arts with a cum laude in Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Architecture.

My graduation project for my Bachelor of Architecture is «Reconstruction of the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic complex». The project took part in an open international contest to design the Sverdlovsk philharmonic complex. Also in this contest took part buro Zaha Hadid architects, certainly, it wined.

When I studied for my Bachelor’s degree I encountered the Theory of New Urbanism. The most important and foundational book for me was Jane Jacob’s «The Death and Life of Great American Cities». After reading the book recognized some facts about living in the city, the value of citizen life, and how are important neighborhoods. That’s my conclusion that was the basis of my master’s graduation thesis «The evolution of residential complexes of post-Soviet Yekaterinburg from the standpoint of new urbanism». The outcomes of the master’s thesis included the term «Residential complex» for the post-soviet city.

Nowadays I am a practicing architect with 5 years of experience in total. My main sphere of professional activity is master planning. In this area, my work experience consists of participation in competitive cases on urban studies, and urban planning concepts for the development of territories. In collaboration with KCAP Architects & Planners, Palmbout urban landscapes and Studio Paola Viganò in Brusnika Design designed SFA over 1 000 000 sq.m.

In my professional activity, I set myself the most important task of creating comfortable urban spaces. believe that the concepts of “comfort” and “quality” are measurable entities that are expressed by objective and subjective definitions: accessibility, reliability, and humanity.

- Designing masterplans of territories in cities which Brusnika Design and Engineering related. SFA residential over 500 000 sq.m. designed; - Development of new city territories and renovation of old industrial plants. There are Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Surgut, and Moscow Region. Masterplan of renovation residential area in Yekaterinburg

The main idea of the masterplan is a renovation of a soviet residential area in Yekaterinburg city. Masterplan conception has a local park existing like a green attractor, has a social infrastructure (kindergartens and schools), and has a cluster of commercial buildings of the new economic paradigm.

The idea consists of several points: urban fabric based on the idea of a basic height of 8 stories, designing urban blocks to have basic height and high accents of 16 stories, the measures of residential blocks to have a range from 60 to 150 meters, and permeable urban fabric to allow different scenarios of walking. The principles of New Urbanism make a comfortable urban space, allowing us to create a local society and diversity of building typologies. The Sellable Floor Area of the project is 465 000 sq.m.

For the project, I designed to propose typologies of residential blocks, typologies of schools and kindergartens, profiles of streets and public spaces, presentations and urban visualizations, and collages of the project.

Masterplan of renovation residential area in Yekaterinburg

Brusnika Construction & Development LLC Felixx Landscape Architects & Planners BV

The project was done by famous architectural and urban buro of Europe. Was a lot of work, as the colossal issue of the territory is Shishimskya hill, the heart of the district.

The main idea of the masterplan is a renovation of a private housing and soviet residential area in the district of Yekaterinburg. The masterplan separated into the 3 parts: «Sherbakova» (the part along Sherbakova street, a very density part of masterplan), «Village» (the part which is the renovation of a private residential area), and «Crown» (the part with hill and on the top the hill will locate a public space).

The parts have local public spacesattractions. The «Sherbakova» has a «Canyon» - green line, the point of destination is the top of the hill, the «Village» has a local park for residents, and the «Crown» has the top of the Shishimskya hill - a public park with an engaging view to the surroundings.

The SFA of the project is 320 000 sq.m. The number of floors varies from 7 to 25 floors.

The masterplan was redesigned by me the whole. My tasks were to rethink the Idea of the projects, protect important thinks, and redesigned according to to SFA. Exactly, the main conception was created in collaboration with architects of masterplan of Brusnikadesign.

The Idea of the project consists of the 3 challenges, which need to preserve as a basis for masterplan:

1. Green axis. A pedestrian link runs through the area and connects its extreme points: axis-oriented social facilities and public spaces. In the project, the pedestrian axis ends public space - the area of the district the value to which the sports center is oriented, built into the house.

2. Diversity of interior spaces Shaping complex interior spaces and buildings, diverse in function and content. Formation of the pedestrian environment inside the building and urbanization on the periphery along the streets.

3. Special building. Formation of a unique house of complex shape with accent in the form of high-rise dominant. Dominant - a landmark of the area, denotes a quarter area under construction.

A Masterplan concept based on 4 principles of urban design:

1. Safety.

2. Self-Realization.

3. Diversity.

4. Uniqueness compared.

The masterplan was designed by me the whole. Exactly, the main conception was created in collaboration with architects of masterplan of Brusnika-design.

Architectural project of a residential complex in Yekaterinburg

The project of the residential complex is a part of a huge development program. The project consists of a dominant residential tower of 33 levels and 4 blocks of 10-13 levels.

The main Idea of the project was to design high-density development with valuable architecture. When we designed we were inspired by European architecture, particularly dutch architecture. They are Amsterdam and Rotterdam the cities with examples of high density.

The design of the project was by pair of architectors - me as the architect and the lead architect. According to the design we designed the layout of the apartments and facades. Visualizations were made by visualization with our support.

For the project, I designed the layout of the apartments as a whole and partly designed facades with details. For me, the most challenging part of the project was designing two levels of underground parking with declined surfaces.

Several times ago I have opened my new way of creativity in architectural photography. I really have a soft spot for it, I am engaged with that for most time of the time. In most cases, my photos are pretty good and even some of them are published. My photos were used to in conceptions of masterplans and architecture as illustrations for the storytelling of the Site. Recently, the architectural bureau Stefan Forster GmbH published my photos on the official website. I was very happy about it.

The evolution of residential complexes post-soviet Yekaterinburg from the point of view of New Urbanism

The master’s thesis is a research on the architecture of Yekaterinburg of the period from the beginning of the twenty century to nowadays. The main goal of graduation work is designing new conceptual typologies of residential complexes from the point of view of New Urbanism through urban analysis of existing complexes.

The research addresses issues: a shortage of theory and practice of blocks urban fabric in Russian development and urban science; dissonance between Russian and world theory and practice of urban and architecture.

The relevance of the master’s thesis is based on research of the principles of New Urbanism which will help for developing new typologies of block urban fabric in post-soviet cities. The theoretical base of research is literature on the urbanism of the 20th and 21st centuries and literature on the psychology of perception in architecture and urban planning.
