A wife saw her husband weigh himself on the scale, trying to pull in his stomach. The wife thought he was trying to reduce his weight on the scale. So she said, "You know, I don't think that will help you." The husband replies, "Of course it helps. It is the only way I can see the numbers on the scale."

Why did the chicken cross the playground? To get to the other slide!! During lunch at the summer bible camp, a nun places a note in front of a pile of apples, "Only take one. God is watching." Further down the line is a pile of cookies. A little boy makes his own note, "Take all you want. It's ok, God is watching the apples."

Publisher's Corner by Sean Athey
Hello Everyone! Lynette and I hope the long holiday weekend was good for you and yours. Thanks for picking up this issue, we hope you enjoy it! We work very hard to bring Tidbits to our vast number of readers each week. This takes the lion's share of our time, but, we do get to do some of the small things that take the edge off of our busy schedules. One of those things is our backyard garden. This year we have in green beans, peas, carrots, onions, cucumbers, squash, peppers and three kinds of tomatoes. We are looking forward to canning in the fall and making some delicious salsa. I still think it is amazing to pop open a jar two years later and enjoy that aroma of fresh veggies - just like the kitchen was the day we canned it! I hope all you gardeners out there are having success with your plantings - it hasn't been too hard with all the rain! FRAUD ALERT - Just wanted to pass this on because it hit a litte too close to home. My parents had a dock for sale and got a call one day from somewhere out on the east coast. He was interested in the dock and wanted to know if he could send a certified check and have a carrier pick it up. My folks are pretty bright and knew something was up. So, my mom played along with the guy and he actually sent a check to her. Now here's where the catch is... the check they sent was for $1600 more than they were asking for the dock. The next step in this scam is when they tell you, sorry, go ahead and cash the whole thing and send back the difference via wire transfer or whatever. Of course the original check is bogus and they make off with the money. Just wanted to share that. There are alot of people who have no idea how to work for a living... it disgustes me and the hard working people I know. Remember, if it sounds to good to be true... it probably isn't. Old Aquarium Needs a Good Cleaning DEAR PAW’S CORNER: A few days ago, my older brother found an empty fish aquarium on the side of the road. It’s a pretty nice one with a wooden cabinet and a big, dirty tank. Is it safe to reuse and fill with goldfish? -- Jackie in Tulsa, Okla. DEAR JACKIE: If the glass isn’t damaged and the aquarium equipment -- like the light or the aerator -- is in good shape or can be replaced, then you should be able to reuse it. If you know someone with a lot of experience keeping larger fish aquariums, have him or her look at it and make sure it’s OK. If so, then do a really good cleaning on the tank and any equipment that will go into it. First, remove the equipment and any old gravel from the tank. Fill the tank with cool or warm water (don’t use hot water) and let it soak for a day. Pour out the water and scrub with a lint-free cloth or a sponge to clear away dirt, mold and mineral scale from the glass and bottom of the tank. Next, mix white vinegar with water, about half and half, and Answer on page 11
City Park & Camping: 4 camp sites are available at the City Park. Sewer/water/electrical hookups. $15 per night / $10 per night after 7 nights Reservations are accepted by e-mail to Toronto@itctel.com or by calling 605-794-2351.
Submit a Toronto event at www.LakeAreaTidbits.com wash out the tank again to kill many of the microbes that may be in there. Vinegar also helps to loosen any mineral scale on the glass. Rinse well. Now you can begin slowly building your aquarium. Set it up as if fish are already in it, with gravel on the bottom. Fill with water, add water conditioner and special supplements like Bactria, and let the aerator run for at least two days. Meantime, read up on how to maintain a large aquarium, which takes much more work than a fishbowl, and decide what fish you want to keep in it. You should add them one at a time at first as you get used to managing the larger water system. Send your questions or comments to ask@pawscorner.com.

How I learned to mind my own business.
I was walking past the playground the other day, and all the kids were shouting, "13! 13! 13!" The fence was
too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the planks, so I looked through to see what was going on. Some kid poked me in the eye with a stick! Then they all started shouting, "14! 14! 14!"

Directly in front of you is another galloping horse but your horse is unable to overtake it. Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the horse in front of you. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation? A: Get your inebriated butt off the merry-go-round!

A guy got pulled over by a police officer, and his dog sniffed for drugs. He comes over and says, "My dog says you have weed in the car." The man responds, "Well I don't know about that. We should check your car, you are the one that thinks he has a talking dog!"
Ivory Necklace Q: I have an ivory necklace that was given to me by my grandmother. It was originally purchased during the 1920s in Africa. Whom can I contact about it with the intent to possibly sell it? -- Connie, Santa Fe, N.M. A: If you are motivated to sell your ivory necklace, you had better move quickly, since new U.S. laws and restrictions are being considered that would make the sale of ivory unlawful and a felony. This is futile action to save African elephants, as most of the poaching being done is triggered by Chinese demand. Robert Weisblut is founder and president of the International Ivory Society, and he might be able to advise you. Contact is 5001 Old Ocean Blvd., No. 1, Ocean Ridge, FL 33425; and rweisblut@yahoo.com. ••• Q: Recently while helping my mom do some spring cleaning, I found a shoebox containing five Avon bottles from the 1940s and ‘50s. I almost tossed them, but thought I would check with you first. -- Beth, Chesterfield, Mo. A: Avon collecting reached its peak during the 1970s.
