Dear Parents/Guardians Warm Greetings from Anchor Green Primary School! How time flies!! We are moving into the month of August and will be celebrating our nation’s 46th birthday. We look forward to peace and prosperity for many years ahead. The theme for this year’s NDP is “Majulah! The Singapore Spirit”. From our humble beginnings as a fishing village to the present-day Singapore, our people have endeavoured and overcome numerous trials. The Singapore Spirit therefore encapsulates our common determination to overcome all odds and achieve success. Please take some time to reflect on what the Singapore Spirit means to you, and share it with your child and family members. Here are some updates on the school major events for the month of August for your information. 2.

Photo Taking for Pupils and Staff - 2 August 2011

The pupils and their form teachers will be having their class photo shoots. All pupils are to report to school on that day in their school uniform. Please ensure that your child has a neat hair cut and girls with long hair are to tie up or plait their hair neatly. There is no need for pupils to bring along PE attire. The PE teachers will structure suitable Physical Education lessons that can be conducted wearing school uniforms. 3.

National Day Celebration and Lower Primary Sports Day - 8 August 2011

School hours on 8 August will be from 7.30 – 10.30am. We will be conducting the National Day Observance Ceremony for the whole school, followed by learning activities for the Upper Primary pupils (P4-P6), while the Lower Primary pupils (P1-P3) will be having their Sports Day. Due to space constraints, we seek your understanding that we are unable to accommodate parents as spectators for the Sports Day events. 4.

School Holidays - 9 and 10 August 2011

There will be no school for pupils on 9 and 10 August 2011. 5.

PSLE Oral Examinations – 18 and 19 August 2011

Our P6 pupils will be taking their PSLE Oral Examinations on 18 and 19 August. Please note that there will be NO school for P1 – P5 pupils on these two days. 6.

P6 Preliminary Examinations

Please note that there is an amendment to the dates of the P6 preliminary examinations. The dates for the various subjects are as follows: Date 3 Aug (Wed) 4 (Thur) and 5 Aug (Fri)

Subject Tongue Languages (MTL) Oral EL and MTL Listening Comprehension Higher MTL – Paper 1 English Language Mathematics Mother Tongue Languages Science Higher MTL – Paper 2

Prior to the P6 Prelim Examination, the teachers will be going through Practice Papers with the P6 pupils. The aims of giving these practice papers are: (a) Train pupils in time management skills in handling the PSLE papers. (b) Allow pupils to have a better understanding of how PSLE questions are being phrased. (c) Allow our teachers to analyse and identify gaps so as to help your child improve his/her performance. The Practice Papers will be marked and returned to your child. Please do check, sign and discuss the Practice Papers with your child so as to identify ways to provide home support and encouragement to him/her. If there are any areas of concern, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Form Teacher or the school immediately. We are here to support you and your child in his/her preparation for the PSLE. 7.

Ramadan and Hari Raya Puasa

Ramadan for our Muslim pupils and staff starts on 1 August and Hari Raya Puasa falls on 30 August. The dismissal time for Muslim pupils and staff on the eve of Hari Raya Puasa (29 August) will be at 10.00am. We will like to wish all Muslim pupils, staff and their families a Happy Hari Raya Puasa. 8.

Teacher’s Day – 2 Sept 2011

This year’s Teacher’s Day falls on 2 Sept (Friday). It will be a school holiday for all pupils and teachers. There will be NO Supplementary / Remedial lessons for pupils on 1 Sept, the eve of Teacher’s Day. Should you have any issues or concerns pertaining to your child’s progress or performance in school, please do not hesitate to discuss with his/her form teacher or contact the school.
