Thank You is Not Enough AmAglen AdelAide HnH 43A – now owned by StewArt limouSin
We are truly humbled by the success of our Private Treaty Herd Dispersal. We have had inquiries from across the country and into North Dakota, Montana and Kentucky. Our hearts are full to know that our passion for the industry and dedication to the breed has not went unnoticed. We’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude to those that took advantage of this opportunity: Stewart Limousin of Stettler, AB -Huge gratitude to the Stewarts who had enough faith in our program to come and select a pot load, a large group of excellent proven females and a group of stylish heifer calves, the perfect compliment to the great cow herd that they are running. We are thankful to have our cows go to such an established program, with good honest folks. Check out their bull sale on February 18th at the ranch.
Windy Hill Limousin of Devlin, ON - Thanks to Bryan Kelly who selected a group of
foundation females and a bull for his growing purebred herd. These cows combined with his excellent bulls and AI sires are going to make for exciting matings.
Nith Valley Limousin of Airdrie, AB - Gary McConnell has been selecting some excellent
females from some of the best herds in the country and we are thrilled to be a part of his selection. They got some thick made females.
Poplarview Livestock - Thank you to Amanda and Tyler Scott for their selection last fall of a few open heifers. These up and comers have been selecting steers and heifers from us for years.
Amaglen Limousin - We need to thank Amanda and Clint for enabling us to keep going these
last few years. Now the reigns are passed to them with some of our cows added to their already impressive herd. Amaglen will carry on being the bull supplier we have been for the past 36 years!
Check out our bulls for sale at www.amaglenlimousin.ca and www.manitobabulltest.com. Excellent females still available. Our website will be updated in the near future. Ian & Bonnie Hamilton Amanda & Clint Seward & girls Phone: (204) 246-2312

C L A O FFIC E U P D ATE BY TESSA VERBEEK The Limousin breed was at the forefront of everyone’s minds this fall. Limousin influence calves topped fall feeder sales across the country, seedstock sales were very strong and the Limousin presence on the show road was felt throughout the barns! Every facet of our industry plays an important role in the vitality of the Limousin breed. This Christmas edition of the Limousin Voice magazine will showcase the results of the 2018 show and fall sale season, culminating with the National Show and Sale at Canadian Western Agribition. Thank you to the Saskatchewan Limousin Association for hosting and special thanks to all of the exhibitors who attended, consigners and buyers in the National Sale and to the many volunteers and sponsors who contributed to making this a successful event. The breeding decisions, management, hard work and investment that goes into taking cattle out to shows to represent the Limousin breed is appreciated. We are especially proud of Greenwood’s repeat Alberta Supreme win, this time on the female side, with Greenwood Pld Ally 702A and calf Greenwood Flick PYN 62F being named Supreme Female over all breeds in the Alberta Supreme at Farmfair International! I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Laura Ecklund, who will be taking over as Interim General Manager for 2019 on a part-time basis as I depart in January for maternity leave. Laura has been with the CLA since 2016 in the role of Registry/Member Services Assistant and Canadian Junior Limousin Association Coordinator. Raised on a Limousin operation in Ontario, and an alumnus of the CJLA program, Laura brings a tremendous passion for the Limousin breed and membership to the CLA. Laura and her husband, Cody, and their two young children, Sadie and Rhett, have recently moved to southeastern Alberta and she will be working remotely from home on a part-time basis. Laura is also continuing as the CJLA Coordinator. Additionally, I would like to welcome our new hire, Brenda Patterson, who will be starting in January. Brenda will be working full-time in the CLA office

as Office Manager and Registry/Member Services Assistant. As 2018 draws to a close, we remind you to please finish recording/registering your 2018 calf crop and get your performance records entered before year end. For those of you scanning your cattle this winter please remember that weaning weights must be entered before ultrasound results can be recorded. CLA Office Closed for Christmas Holidays The CLA office will be closed December 24th to January 4th, re-opening on Monday, January 7th to serve our membership. Whole Herd Enrolment (WHE) Deadline January 15, 2019 Information concerning your 2019 WHE has been mailed to all members. If you are an online user, we remind you that you will not have received any paper forms for your inventory. Please remember that Whole Herd Enrolment is due no later than January 15, 2019. Online users may find instructions on how to post their inventory on our website under DigitalBeef. Please remember, if you have not completed your disposals/assessment by January 15th all assessment age females will be enrolled for the current year. Refunds are only given on enrolled heifers calving for the first time providing disposal information has been filed by the member both on the heifer and her calf. There is no longer a $10/day late penalty, your penalty for being late is that all assessment age females will be enrolled on January 16th and no refund will be given. Bull Sale Reminders Bull sale season is just around the corner, and as always, the CLA is here to assist you with tools to help you have a successful sale. - Please remember that EPDs are now updating on a weekly basis and the most current EPDs can be found on an animal’s profile in DigitalBeef. It would be wise to inform your buyers of this in your bull sale catalogue, etc. Breed averages are available in the Percentile Ranks document on DigitalBeef – contact the CLA office if you need assistance in locating this. - Catalogue downloads may be requested from the CLA to obtain pedigree and EPD information on sale cattle in an Excel document. We require an Excel file with only the registration numbers, not the tattoos, of cattle in the sale. There is a $1.50/ head charge for this service.

- A mailing address list can be obtained from the CLA for $150, additionally the CLA can send an e-blast about your sale for $100 (you must provide all content/graphics). - The CLA is pleased to post your sale catalogue and information about your sale on the CLA website as well as on our Facebook page. Please send a link to your catalogue to info@limousin. com to ensure it gets posted. - A gift certificate for Limousin branded CCIA tags can be given to your Limousin bull buyers to purchase a bag of tags at your expense as a thank you for purchasing a bull. You can download this off the CLA website or contact info@limousin.com to be sent a digital copy you can print. - The CLA has a Limousin CCIA tag advertisement that can be used in your bull sale catalogue or otherwise to explain and promote the tag program to your commercial buyers. We have also developed a “Tag Supporter” logo that can easily be added to your sale catalogue or website. Contact info@limousin.com to receive a digital copy of either. - Please remember that only Limousin cattle that contain between 37.5% and 75% Limousin blood and 25% to 62.5% Black Angus or Red Angus blood, may be called Lim-Flex. Cattle that fall outside of these parameters should be described as Percentage Limousin in sales catalogues, not Lim-Flex. - Last but not least, please remember to complete DNA testing for animals that require it well in advance of your sale. Depending on the test requested, DNA turnaround time is typically between 4-6 weeks. The passion for the Limousin breed is as palpable today as I imagine it was in 1969, when the Canadian Limousin Association was first formed. As we look forward to celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Limousin in Canada for the entire 2019 year, let’s also take a look back and appreciate what the people of the past 50 years of Limousin have contributed to the breed and the Association. On behalf of myself, your CLA Board of Directors and staff, we wish you a very Merry Christmas with family and friends and a prosperous New Year!
