FORMULA FOR SUCCESS

hose with their feet firmly on the ground do not fear the storm. It is essential to stake your claim and secure your rightful place in the world during the good times, and to hold on tightly to everything you have achieved so far when the bad times inevitably hit. Why not use this same principle to make your business, and perhaps your life's work itself, secure and invulnerable to external factors? Creating a stable company that can weather any storm means more than simply adhering to the same policies, standards and mission year after year, but continuing to move forward as well: by participating in tenders, exhibitions and other important industry events. Brand image is formed gradually, and face-to-face contact is a key part of this process. As the primary business platform for the construction industry, MosBuild has witnessed time and again the importance of a handshake in establishing trust and genuine partnership. These meetings are the foundation of our professional community, offering participants the opportunity for cooperation and engagement. For over 20 years MosBuild has shown that playing an active role in the industry and being relentless in cultivating competitive advantages is vital for success in a tough market. The companies presented in this issue are committed to growth and progress, which they will surely demonstrate for themselves at MosBuild – 31 March to 3 April at Moscow's Expocentre. We look forward to seeing you there! Managing Editor Ruzanna Sarkisova

PROJECT | INTERIOR

Between Europe and Asia 2015 began with the opening of the Quasar Residences hotel in Istanbul (Turkey), heralding a new era in premium hospitality. The man behind the design, Marcel Wanders, focused on three motifs throughout the interior: Culture, Nature and Internationality.

14

HOTEL |

E E

urope and Asia have gained a new point of contact: the Mecidiyeköy quarter in Istanbul, which is now home to Quasar Residences. The design of the interior is built around a single key theme: the meeting of East and West. The concept of internationality is represented by a statue in the hotel’s foyer – two-faced Janus, with one face symbolising the West and the other the East. The interior of Quasar Residences combines fantastically huge flowers and warm hues. The fusion of cultures and traditions is also in evidence in the decor of the restaurants and guest rooms.

15

PROJECT | INTERIOR

The hotel comprises 58 offices, 4 cafĂŠs, 17 small shops and 215 rooms offering panoramic views of the city and the famous Bosphorus strait. Guest rooms are presented in one of three styles: Cosmopolitan, Natural and Cultural. The first represents the life of contemporary Istanbul at night, the second recreates the natural scenery of the East, while the third emulates the art of the Ottoman Empire.

16

The common areas of the hotel have been crafted down to the smallest detail: 5789 m2 of gardens and a lounge area with pool encircle the hotel suites, while plants are woven into the very structure of the bespoke staircase by Marcel Wanders. 36 metres above ground level, an infinity pool seems to flow endlessly into the Bosphorus. In the winter months, the pool basin is transformed into a restaurant. A substantial part of the relaxation zone by the water has

been turned into a sculpture garden: giant statues poised on ivy-twined arches. In the pool itself, guests can enjoy refreshments at a bar that operates year-round. The “East meets West” style of the interior, while an important part of the design, is far from its only winning feature. The hotel building, named after the brightest star in the galaxy, has been renovated using cutting-edge energy-saving technologies. The building’s environmental

credentials have been recognised with the DGNB certificate – accepted the world over as proof of “green” construction. The luxury of this new hotel comes as a result of the innovative technologies employed in its construction, which coupled with the Marcel Wanders design have created a new gold standard for the hospitality industry. This latest addition to the Fairmont Quasar Residences chain represents a new centre of culture, fashion and progress in Istanbul.

The colour scheme of the Quasar Residences suites is based on light pastel hues: milk white, warm caramel and neutral light grey. This palette is accentuated by natural shades of herb green and black graphite.

As well as bedrooms, the hotel also comprises a conference hall and other large events spaces. Simplicity and purity reign supreme throughout the resort’s interiors,

This results in significant savings: Hansgrohe showerheads with EcoSmart technology provide a high volume shower experience using only 9 litres of water per minute, without compromising on comfort. The owners of the Kapelleberg Resort are delighted with this result: a 40 % reduction in water consumption compared with conventional hand showers. The hotel has also been able to save on energy expenditure, as the volume of water to be heated has gone down. This is why Hansgrohe was selected as sanitary ware supplier of this unique resort – it leads the way in innovation in the bathroom fixtures market. R R

esembling an open-air museum, this medieval town has been transformed into an ultramodern resort of designer hotels. The town of Óbidos (Portugal) is situated on the Atlantic coast. Its name is Latin in origin and means “fortress” or “citadel”, yet the fortified town’s history stretches back even further than this would suggest, as it was actually founded by Celtic tribes. In the Roman era, the town was one of the key ports in the region, and was later controlled by the Visigoths and the Moors. Only in the 12th century did it come under Spanish rule. This long and varied history is reflected throughout Óbidos, which has absorbed the very best of these highly distinct cultures. The town’s ubiquitous flowers, fruit trees, white villas with red-tiled roofs and winding, cobbled streets are like something out of a fairy tale. It was in this idyllic town that the new Evolutee Hotel opened in June 2014, with interiors created by the London-based YOO Studio, a world leader in residential interior design headed by renowned designer Philippe Starck and entrepreneur John Hitchcox.

47

PROJECT | INTERIOR

John Hitchcox: “When I get a call about a new project proposal, I always look at the place where we will be working. The place, the city, is extremely important. In this sense, old towns are unique. One must create interiors that are in keeping with the cultural traditions of the environment. It is also important to take the climate into consideration. People’s concept of comfort varies widely based on climatic and geographical conditions.” The cutting-edge Evolutee Hotel is designed with people in mind. The wellness spa, golf club, open-air pool areas and interiors all offer spaces for leisure and relaxation in which the designers have flawlessly incorporated both the natural surroundings and the cultural traditions of the town. The personable design offers warmth and welcome, delighting guests with its subtle elegance and unparalleled quality. The comfortable rooms and sumptuous suites present a unique blend of classic and rustic styles, employing warm tones, natural materials and eye-catching exclusive accessories that blend harmoniously with the town’s unique aesthetic.

The texture of the Azzurro collection wallpapers resembles twisted plant fibres, but it is only an exquisite imitation. 3. Azzurro vinyl wallpapers are awash with natural tones and give the walls a rough, hazy surface. 4. Wallpapers in the Parade collection offer a contemporary French style, giving any interior a hint of ineffable Parisian chic. he rebuilding of the legendary Hotel Moskva has been completed. This Moscow landmark is one of the symbols of the Stalinist era. The project called for the construction of a replica of the former hotel building, recreating its previous dimensions and architectural details. The design for the new building on the site of the demolished hotel was created by architect Vladimir Kolosnitsyn of Mosproekt-2 M.V. Posokhin Workshop. The new complex will be operated by the Four Seasons international hotel chain and will be the chain’s second hotel in Russia. The Four Seasons Hotel Moscow comprises 210 guest rooms and 230 suite modules out of which accommodations with the required number of

rooms can be derived. The hotel interiors were created by English design firm Richmond International Hotel Leisure & Design Consultants, whose design beat out other firms to win the project tender. The proximity of the capital’s sights and the Bolshoi Theatre is reflected in the grand interiors of the hotel and suites, the luxury ballrooms for exclusive events, and the restaurants, cafÊs, bars and lounges. The hotel complex also includes the Amnis Spa and indoor pool, a conference hall and congress centre, commercial spaces and an underground car park.

This experience was essential for finding and developing his own unique style. Elégance Intérieurs has worked on many projects in Russia, Paris and the Côte d'Azur. The majority of these designs have displayed a French style, where historical context forms an integral part of the whole. DIY Market Trends in 2014

On 1 April 2015, the 4th annual international business forum “Issues and prospects for the development of the market of building and decorating materials and the DIY trade” will gather together DIY market leaders to discuss the industry's most pressing issues. The forum participants will analyse the results of 2014, review strategies for further development in today's crisis conditions, and discuss new solutions for increasing sales in a stagnant market. The main event of the forum will be the awards ceremony for the winners of the INFOLine DIY Retail Russia TOP and DIY Advice Russia TOP rankings. At the end of 2014, retail sales growth reached 2.5 % and exceeded 26.1 trillion rubles. On this measure Russia continues to hold the top position among European countries. As predicted by INFOLine, the increase in retail and wholesale sales in the DIY segment in 2014 surpassed 1.07 trillion rubles. DIY market growth can primarily be attributed to the thriving housebuilding sector. A new record was set once again

last year – the volume of housing being commissioned rose by 14.9% to 81 million square metres. The construction of new residential buildings in Russia was one of the topics discussed as part of the Issues and prospects for the development of the market of building and decorating materials and the DIY trade forum in 2014.

VIEWPOINTS | BUSINESS PROGRAMME PHILIPPE MOUGEOT In speaking at the Issues and prospects for the development of the market of building and decorating materials and the DIY trade forum, Leroy Merlin marketing director Philippe Mougeot revealed that one of the tools used by Leroy Merlin to plan its growth was assessing the buying power of the average Russian consumer. This lead to the introduction of the “Low prices every day!” policy, which aimed to make Leroy Merlin the Russian market leader by price and respond to the needs of Russian consumers.Mougeot also spoke to the audience about Leroy Merlin's ambitious plan of investment for the Russian Federation. In order to offer consumers the number of products they need, the company is looking for reliable suppliers who are ready to become key partners in each region.

RALF RAHMEDE In his opening address to the forum delegates, the general secretary of the European Federation of DIY Manufacturers remarked that over 60% of housing in Russia is in need of renovation or is unfit for habitation. The large number of new homes being built is still not enough to solve the problem of completely overhauling the old housing stock. In this context, DIY chains are the main suppliers of goods for improving housing conditions.

ALEKSEY FEDOROV One of the major areas of change for the DIY market in 2014 was retailers’ development of their online presence and formation of multi-channel sales models. In 2014, 220 Volt managing partner Aleksey Fedorov took part as a speaker in the DIY forum for the first time. In his presentation he remarked that DIY is gradually gaining popularity among online customers, and while the biggest retailers have been slow to develop their online business for a host of reasons, Fedorov is optimistic about the future of DIY online.

IVAN FEDYAKOV In his forum presentation, INFOLine general director Ivan Fedyakov noted that for the third year running, renovation and home improvements were one of the year's major planned expenditures for Russians. Leaders in the Russian DIY market – global chains Leroy Merlin, OBI and Castorama – have no plans to slow down their investment activity. Even by the end of 2014, this trio of INFOLINE DIY Retail Russia TOP retailers saw their retail space exceed 100,000 square metres. In the past year, Leroy Merlin has opened 6 new superstores and increased its number of outlets to 34. Despite current adverse macroeconomic factors, Leroy Merlin is sticking to its organic growth plan, expecting to have 95 superstores in Russia by 2018.

ALEKSEY IOVLEV Metrika CEO Alexey Iovlev, speaking at the DIY Forum in 2014, said that his company's primary and most important project was the rebuilding of the entire holding structure and optimising retail outlets. According to Iovlev, one of the priority areas for increasing the company's profitability is the development of its own brands. INFOLine statistics show that Metrika enjoyed the largest retail space increase in 2014. However at the start of 2015, the company has already embarked on its plan to optimise its retail chain and review its investment strategy.

ALEKSEY DEMENTIEV The speaker from Akson Holding was also participating in the DIY Forum for the first time. Akson Holding development director Aleksey Demetiev spoke about how companies need to diversify their sales channels, product offering and trade formats in today's crunch economy. Dementiev highlighted Akson's decision to combine traditional DIY with other retail areas as one of its defining features. In each city the chain also has specialised garden and construction centres.

VLADIMIR SAMOKHVALOV Commercial director of STD Petrovich Vladimir Samokhvalov took part in the Forum DIY 2014 expert discussion. He spoke about the importance of improving efficiency in these tough economic conditions. Samokhvalov revealed that Petrovich has no plans to change the chain's established structure even in the event of a marked drop in sales.

RINAT MUKHAMETVALEEV CEO of Trest SKM and chairman of the DIY Association Rinat Mukhametvaleev expressed his concerns about the domination of the Russian DIY market by international chains. He listed three major trends for DIY retailers in the medium term. The first trend is adaptation and further optimisation of business models, the second is category management, and the development of multi-channel trade is the third key trend.

The detailed results of 2014 will be discussed by experts and representatives of the major players in the DIY market on 1 April 2015 at the 4th annual MosBuild business forum Issues and prospects for the development of the market of building and decorating materials and the DIY trade. INFOLine analytics agency will present the latest market statistics based on recent research and announce their DIY Retailer Russia TOP ranking for 2014 compiled in collaboration with MosBuild.

ike boutique shops that offer designer pieces, boutique hotels are defined by their exclusivity, intimacy and rich history, which enhance the emotional value of the hotel as a whole. The creation of a boutique hotel typically begins with a unique architectural monument, which is then lovingly transformed into a paragon of modern comfort and convenience with restaurants and spa facilities. Guests can choose from a small number of deluxe

The ambition to offer a unique and personalised experience is undoubtedly the impetus for the rise of boutique hotels in Russia. These hotels with history are well represented in St. Petersburg, which is home to the singular Rossi Boutique Hotel. One of the latest developments in the hotel sector centres

The hotel features a unique combination of authentic and contemporary interior details: 19th century brickwork, tiles and wrought iron sit alongside glass walls and plasma screens on the variety of unique interiors and painstaking attention to detail. The Rossi Boutique Hotel is situated in a stately 19th-century mansion on the embankment of the Fontanka River and bears the name of the building’s architect, Carlo di Giovanni Rossi. The spirit of St. Petersburg’s Golden Age is an integral part of this sumptuous hotel: the old masonry and structures have been carefully preserved and left exposed at points

throughout the hotel’s interior, the past interweaving with the present. The hallmark of a boutique hotel can be found in its wholly exclusive design. Bespoke interiors have been crafted for every room in the Rossi. Deluxe rooms are presented in a fusion style with restored Dutch-tiled heating ovens. The luxury suites offer one-of-a-kind decor and an exclusive layout. The space transports guests to the 19th century

The jewel in the crown of the Rossi is the Presidential Suite, which offers 300 square metres of uncompromising luxury. All of the hotel’s suites include a hall, lounge, dining room, two bedrooms, an office, and
