College Magazine Textual Analysis

Connote & Denote Mast Head The Mast head is in a sickly yellow font and although it is an effective font it is not aesthetically pleasing and Is not something you would conventionally see; The layering of the mast head shows us that the magazine isn’t very important and that the contents is much more important. The Masthead is a huge bold font and this helps it stand out from the other information, it also contrasts nicely with the image and background.

Image The Image is effective because it has a direct mode of address, the model is almost asking us to know what he has to say. His pose is very open and inviting, he is holding a book that says “Law, Buisness and Society suggesting that he is very intellectual and that this magazine reflects these values, it also tells us what he is going to talk about in the magazine. He is dressed very stylishly and fashionably wearing solid colours he stands out from the background; he is also in focus whereas the background isn’t giving it an almost 3d effect. Additional text The additional text Is not very pleasing to my eye, it is spread out all over the page and is very hard to read when just glancing over. There is a huge pink splotch on the upper right third of the page this ruins the look of the magazine because it breaks the colour scheme and house style of the magazine, they could have used that space to create more white space in the image and make it seem less cluttered House Style The house style of the magazine is both a very wise choice and a very bad choice, the yellow does stand out from the background and makes an impression but it could have been a different shade rather than the sickly yellow. The white gives the magazine a nice modern look which nicely compliments the image and style. The pink is a bad choice in the magazine and I understand why they decided to do it but it distracts from everything else.
