Denotation The image is off star/cleb Adele, it is a mid/long close up, and there is direct mode of address. She is wearing black clothes, she has short hair and she has makeup on, her pose is her moving her head and looking straight into the camera. It is a clear white background. The image reflects the house style well. The Masthead is a big red block with a white serif font inside, the letter is a Q, it is simple. The house style is white red and black, it follows the colour scheme of the front cover; some of the words are in bold some are not, they have many different sizes of fonts. With some in front of blocks of solid colours some not. The text is brief explanations to what the article is about, they name drop the descriptions are brief. The image The image is of star/celeb Adele this brings a star factor to the magazine, the image is quite clearly a close up of Adele in a studio or blank room, and the other image also looks like it was taken in someone’s house, this connotes that the magazine is quite cheap and low budget but the images aren’t heavily photo shopped and trying to hide it that shows they are every open to how the magazine is, The more rushed quality to the images make me thing that the magazine might be a daily or weekly release that way they don’t have time to get the best they can in the small space of time, as mentioned before the image isn’t high quality but I think the magazine has an artsy cheap edge to it that appeals to the target audience. Masthead The mast head is a red solid block with white font in its simple and not trying to be fancy. I think this connotes a more simplistic attitude to the magazine feel it reflects that music doesn’t need to be dramatized and altered but it can be made good with simple cheap editing and layout. The serifs on the typography are there to add an artistic element to the magazine without making it to fancy and la-di-da. The masthead follows the rule of thirds and I feel that it would be used on all pages as a little thumbnail and the contents would be there to grab the attention, it adds house style and brand identity.
House style The house style is red, black and white. The bold font bigger font is there to show the title to an article or to show you a part of the magazine. The use of red, black and white is that they are following a very mainstream/popular/conventional colour scheme, this is positive and is a proven successes it also works well with the images in the magazine making them stand out as well as match the colours in the pictures.
