BYRON LEE & THE DRAGONAIRES’ UPTOWN TOP RANKING

JAH CURE RELEASES HIS EAGERLY-AWAITED STUDIO ALBUM THE CURE & BEGINS EUROPEAN FESTIVAL TOUR ARTISTdirect Premieres New “Gorgeous Reggae Tune” Critics Call The Cure “One of Most Anticipated Albums of 2015” (Mass Appeal) & “Exceptional...His Best Album Yet” (MusicSnake)

A Collection of Rare Finds and Classics From the Iconic Band’s 50 Year Catalogue Available June 9, 2015 On June 9, 2015, VP Records will release Byron Lee & The Dragonaires’ Uptown Top Ranking, a collection (available together for the first time) of 20 classics from the legendary Jamaican band. The group mastered multiple musical genres - including ska, rocksteady, soca and calypso - and played a key role in expanding its presence beyond the Caribbean. Culled from the extensive Dynamic Sounds catalogue, the selection demonstrates why Byron Lee was one of the most influential Caribbean recording artists for over 50 years. The songs, which are mostly rare gems and classic hits ranging in style and decade, are perfect for collectors of reggae, vinyl and oldies.

Pre-Order Available Now on iTunes July 10, Jah Cure released his new studio album The Cure (VP Records). With his beguiling vocals and soulful conviction, one of Jamaica’s greatest voices effortlessly blends street poetry and sufferer’s tales with beautiful love ballads into one cohesive collection. The 13-track set is a return to roots reggae and lover’s rock with R&B and pop-fused elements. Jah Cure is currently touring in support of the release, covering Europe’s summer music festival circuit. See full dates below.

The CD component will be accompanied by a double vinyl in gatefold packaging to celebrate the vitality of the LP format as well as these recordings. Filled with testimonials from the Byron’s widow Sheila Lee, Dragonaries’ band members and fellow artists like Bunny “Striker” Lee, the album has extensive liner notes documenting the band’s historical and significant importance in Caribbean music. Byron Lee and the Dragonaires played a crucial pioneering role in bringing Caribbean music to the world. Originally formed in 1950, the band got their start performing at the island’s local hotels, also incorporating American pop and R&B covers in their repertoire. The band appealed to the uptown “middle class” crowd of Kingston, Jamaica and tourists visiting the area. In the early 1960s, they were one of the first major ska bands to break on an international level - landing a on-screen performance role in the first James Bond film Dr. No. In 1964, they received another boost when they were selected by the former Jamaican Prime Minister Edward Seaga (then the island’s head of Social Welfare and Economic Development) to perform as a backing band for a showcase of Jamaican talent (including Jimmy Cliff, Prince Buster, and Millie Smalls) at the New York World’s Fair. After this success, Lee took the band in a new direction, incorporating calypso. They began performing regularly at Trinidad & Tobago’s carnival and also touring the Caribbean and North America. Lee also bought WIRL studios from Seaga and turned it into Dynamic Sounds Recording Company. Dynamic became a major hub for recording not only local talent like Toots & the Maytals and John Holt, but also international acts like Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Roberta Flack. Byron’s two sons, Edward Lee and Byron Lee Junior, took over much of the day-to-day running of Dynamic Sounds in the 1990s, and Byron Lee & The Dragonaires never stopped touring. In October 2008, Bryon Lee passed away after battling cancer. On the day of his death, Bruce Golding, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, stated “Jamaica, and indeed the world, has lost another great music pioneer with the passing this morning of Byron Lee one of the greatest band leaders ever to grace the entertainment stages of the world.” PR Contact: Tiffany Mea / Tiffanym@vprecords.com

Critics have already begun to sing their praises of the new album. “One of the most anticipated albums of 2015...Cure remains one of the greatest living reggae singers” - Mass Appeal “...his best album yet...evidence that Jah Cure is among the most talented and influential Jamaican artists of the modern roots era.” - MusicSnake “...timeless reggae...got the musical remedy for all...making the likes of Bob Marley smile from the heavens” - ARTISTdirect ARTISTdirect also premiered the new “gorgeous” song “Show Love” off the album yesterday. Listen/Post “Show Love”: https://soundcloud.com/vp_records/07-show-love Jah Cure co-produced the entire album with the help of reggae producers like Christopher “Sketch” Carey, Clive Hunt, Llamar “Riff Raff” Brown, Justin “Jus Bus” Nation and Trevor “Baby G” James. The Cure features recent hits like his #1 reggae chart-topping John Legend cover “All of Me” (which received over 5 million YouTube views), “Rasta,” “That Girl” and “Life We Live” as well as brand new singles including “No Friend of Mine” “Made In California,” “I Surrender” and more. Jah Cure’s multi-faceted story of struggle and love is intertwined into The Cure. “My struggles made me who I am today. That’s why I sing with feelings, it comes from my heart cause I feel the pain. The Definitive Set Shows How One Man Revolutionized Jamaican Music WATCH Rolling Stone Documentary with Major Lazer On July 24, 2015 VP Records vintage imprint 17 North Parade will release a brand new 2CD/DVD reggae anthology from King Jammy, one of Jamaica’s most influential producers of all time. Entitled Roots, Reality And Sleng Teng, the comprehensive collection chronicles Lloyd “King Jammy” James’ productions throughout the various styles and eras of reggae. From his live analogue recordings to the birth of the digital reggae to modern day reggae/dancehall, Jammy has played a pivotal role in every step along the way. This timeless 2-disc set shows his range and diversity as a producer over almost a 40-year span. The double-disc deluxe package features extensive liner notes written by reggae historian John Masouri as well as a bonus DVD documentary King At The Controls (originally released in 2006). The album kicks off with some of King Jammy’s earlier analogue productions in the late 1970s (when he started working as an engineer with the legendary Jamaican producer King Tubby) and into the 1980s. It includes the 1976 cut “Zambia,” which was Jammy’s debut single on his own label, The Fantels’ “Where You Gonna Run” (indicative of the late rockers era), the hard hitting roots anthem “African Love/Yogi Bear” by Black Uhuru & Prince Hammer, the dancehall rarity “Selassie On His White Horse” by John Steele, Erroll Scorchers’ “Engineer Affair” (a cut of Gregory Isaacs’ Storm from 1977), “Jah Created The World” by one of Jamaica’s best females singers Hortense Ellis (also Alton Ellis’ sister), the 1983 dancehall staple Johnny Osbourne’s “Water Pumping,” the feel good rub-a-dub track “Skank At The Party” by Mighty Rudo and “Boom Shack A Lack” from a teenage Junior Reid as local Waterhouse youth. The compilation then delves into the digital reggae era when Jammy changed the genre landscape forever. It features his 1985 groundbreaking hit “Under Me Sleng Teng” by Wayne Smith, which ultimately spawned the modern dancehall era with its innovative electronic production style shifting away from live instrumental rhythms. With Jammy working his magic at the boards and Wayne Smith eking the tune out on a cheap Casio battery-powered keyboard, the simple hypnotic track came to life. It spread like wildfire and there were at least two hundred versions of the song made only months after. In the 1980s and 1990s, Jammy became one of the most influential producers of dancehall music, producing hit after hit and dominating the reggae scene. Steely and Clevie gravitated to Jammy, bringing a new level of musicianship to the game and Bobby “Digital” Dixon took over mixing duties. In the 1990s and into 2000s, Jammy also nurtured a next crop of talented youngsters in both dancehall and roots including Shabba Ranks, Bounty Killer, Garnett Silk and Sizzla - all featured on this comprehensive set. Produced by Olivier Chastan and Johnny Wonder, the bonus DVD documentary is set in King Jammy’s own Waterhouse community of Kingston, JA and gives a glimpse of where it all started and the man behind the boards. It pays respect to the legacy and the depth of Jammy’s commitment to reggae music. Jammy’s indelible stamp on reggae music is a tasty and importance slice of Jamaican musical history. The tracks on Roots, Reality And Sleng Teng offer a solid sense of the icon’s innovative sound and production during multiple eras and showcases the young, unique talents who Jammy nurtured. It is authentic, authoritative and indispensable. (Continued on page 20)

“...outstanding...finest lyricists rhyming truth and rights over a stupendous riddim...refreshing, worthwhile endeavor...” - MUSICSNAKE Ghetto Youths International unleashes the On The Corner Riddim, available now on iTunes. The 10-track compilation features reggae’s hottest stars over the hard-knocking roots riddim produced by Damian Marley. The album kicks off with the title track from dancehall reggae veteran Wayne Marshall, inspired by R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion,” and closes with a dubbed out version finessed by Damian Marley. Julian Marley’s contagious new single “Lemme Go” touches on Jamiaca’s newly passed decriminalization law of marijuana and a new video for the song, featuring comedy duo Ity and Fancy Cat, will be coming out soon. The compilation also delivers powerful messages from the latest generation of conscious artists including Jesse Royal, Chronixx, Kabaka Pyramid, Iba Mahr, Ghetto Youths International’s own Black-Am-I and more. This year’s installation features a multitude female artists reigning in reggae today - from emerging stars like the Rastafarian singer Jah9 (“Avocado”), reggae pop princesses’ Toian (“Love It”) and Ikaya (“My Man”) to Jamaica’s leading ladies, like dancehall diva Spice (“Conjugal Visit” ft. Vybz Kartel), the soulful songstress Etana (“I Rise”) and roots reality lyricist Queen Ifrica (“I Can’t Breathe”). The latter song carries a strong message to stop police brutality and racial profiling worldwide. The set also delves into exclusive new music from Jamaica’s top male artists. Jah Cure reveals his latest single “Made In California” off his upcoming album The Cure and the legendary crooner Beres Hammond delivers his stellar new anthem “Jamaican International Dance.” Inner Circle blends old with the new by teaming up with rising roots star Chronixx & the late iconic Jacob Miller on “Tenement Yard (News Carrying Dread).” Singer-songwriter Christopher Martin turns heads with the island’s chart climber “I’m A Big Deal,” while overnight
