From the City Manager
Goodbye Summer, the Holiday Season is Currently Loading…
We hope that you and your families had a wonderful summer and are ready for cooler weather and lots of exciting things coming ahead! Let’s talk about some of the exciting things summer brought us and what exciting things that are happening this coming season.
This summer, we had numerous events like our Summer Concert Series, Neon Night Walk, Camp-A-Palooza and even had the grand opening of our new Temple City Park Playground. We hope your children enjoy the new bamboo-forest themed structure and can let their imagination burst as they make new friends in our playground.
If you drove through our downtown area, then you probably witnessed the Las Tunas Streetscape Project in full effect. This summer we made some significant process as we removed the old empty flowerpots, removed the old benches and trash cans, as well as elevating the pavers of our sidewalks. We also said goodbye to the 1980’s green light posts and light signals by giving them a fresh coat of black paint and converting them all to LED lighting. Slowly but surely
Las Tunas is becoming a more vibrant and welcoming corridor. Now, our work is not done, and we are excited to move on to the next phases of the projects where you will see new banners, street art, furniture, and landscaping. To learn more about this project please visit www.templecity.us right on our home page.
Fall and Winter are filled with activities and cultural traditions, and we hope you take a moment to take a deep breath and enjoy every moment of it with your families. We hope you enjoy all we have to offer this Fall and Winter, and we hope to see you at the Halloween Festival, Lights on Temple City and all other events.
Cordially,
Bryan Cook City Manager

ood & Community at Summer Night Bites
Oaxacan tacos, burgers, dumplings, spring rolls, and fried rice. These are the bites Temple City residents and neighbors got to taste at the first-ever Summer Night Bites held this summer, once each month in June, July, and August.
Hosted by the Temple City Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with local restaurants, Summer Night Bites brought out hundreds of people over the three events to support small businesses as well as TCUSD PTAs. From June to August, Summer Night Bites partnered with different restaurants every month and created a space for locals and visitors to enjoy a night out, meet their neighbors, and enjoy the diverse cuisine of Temple City.
The San Gabriel Valley is known for its world-class restaurants, but it can be time-consuming—not to mention costly—to try every new restaurant in town. For a small fee, Summer Night Bites gave people the opportunity to explore the growing dining scene in Temple City, trying out five restaurants in a
single night. From unique flavors like Cajun-inspired The Dive to Taiwanese desserts from the famed Meet Fresh, each restaurant gave participants just enough to get a taste and keep them coming back for more.
Kalin Thong, a Temple City resident who went with friends to the July Summer Night Bites held in Camellia Square, said, “We’re all locals so we’ve tried a bit of everything, but it’s really hard to try each thing from each menu, so we’re able to try things we’ve never had before.”
With part of the proceeds going to Temple City PTAs, it was a monthly night out for families to make the most of the summer break. Many parents visited with their children, and some pet parents even brought their furry friends.
As Oak Ave PTA President Marianne Vega commented, “I think it’s wonderful, because you get to see people that you might see around the community.” She attended each Summer Night Bites together with her family and friends.
While summer might be over, it’s never too late to support small businesses. If you’re looking to expand your palate or dinner date roster, visit a new Temple City restaurant for your next meal.

rofessional Pathways Partnership Program: Bringing high school students behind the scenes of running a business
This past July, four Temple City businesses opened their doors to local high school students to show them a glimpse of different careers through a pilot program initiated by the Temple City Chamber’s Workforce Development Committee. In this two-week program, students from Temple City High School visited Starbucks, Temple City Bike Shop, CBC Education, and eXp Realty, where they were introduced to different careers and learned essential job-hunting skills like resume writing and interviewing best practices.
Most of the students have never held jobs before. Emile, a Temple City High student in the program, said it was a good chance to get a better idea of where he wants to end up in life and a better understanding of the job interview process.
Students got a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run a major corporate brand like Starbucks and how to make latte art. On the other end of the small business spectrum, they went behind the counter at Temple City Bike Shop, getting

hands-on experience in building a new bike and learning from the store’s resilience during the Covid-19 pandemic and what it takes to run a small business. At CBC Education, they learned about working with people with disabilities and the different roles available for varying degree levels, from high school graduates to master’s and doctorates. Finally, with real estate being such a desirable investment, eXp Realty gave the students an introduction to the market in the San Gabriel Valley.
Each mentor also coached the students on skills that will help launch their careers, like resume writing and mock interviewing. Many of these skills are ones students or job-seekers are expected to have, but rarely taught.
“I think [resume building] is a very important aspect when looking for a job,” said Ariana Bustamante, who shared her perspective as a talent acquisition specialist at CBC Education. “I’ve been recruiting for eight and a half years now, so it’s a lot of things that I wish people knew or that we were taught in school. Having that knowledge of how to sell yourself on paper is really good.”
The Professional Pathways Partnership Program is returning in the fall with more opportunities for Temple City High School seniors to explore various professions as they prepare for their next chapter after high school. For more information, reach out to info@templecitychamber.com

About Family Promise
Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley (FPSGV) was founded in 2009 by a diverse coalition of faith-based communities that collaborated with community advocates and individuals who helped families get off the streets and regain their independence.
Over the years, through grassroots efforts, FPSGV has played a critical role in mitigating the region’s homeless crisis, providing advocacy, a temporary shelter program and keeping families together.
Temple City is happy to partner with Family Promise and assisting our community in times of need. If you, or somebody in Temple City is in need of rental assistance, know this resource is available in a time of need.
