Welcome I warmly welcome you to Moreton Bay Boys’ College (MBBC), an independent, Pre-Prep to Year 12 boys’ school in the Brisbane bayside suburb of Manly. MBBC has a strong philosophy of educating the whole child, supported by a vibrant and caring Pastoral Programme that underpins the focus on academic excellence, partnered with a rich Co-Curricular Programme. We are proud of the abundance of opportunities presented by such a young and dynamic school that create an exciting and engaging learning environment for your son to shine. Our curriculum provides a comprehensive programme at all levels - to stimulate, inspire, motivate, and push the boundaries of the boys’ cognitive, affective and physical abilities. In Primary, our Academic Programme is based within the International Baccalaureate (IB), an internationally recognised framework, which works hand in hand with the Australian Curriculum. MBBC is the only boys’ school in the bayside authorised to deliver the IB Primary Years Programme. The IB framework in Primary is aligned to our delivery of the Australian Curriculum in Secondary, which centres on inquiry-based learning. We strive to develop boys to be active global citizens in a modern society that demands collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and reflection. We encourage boys to consider both local and international environments to prepare them for a world where, increasingly, they will be working globally and be working alongside colleagues from across the globe. I invite you to see for yourself how our college embraces the unique abilities of each boy, nurturing their talent, building their confidence and providing them a supportive learning environment so they grow into a courageous leader, ready for tomorrow. Mr Andrew Holmes Principal Moreton Bay Boys’ College

Our vision, our future Moreton Bay Boys’ College and its sister school, Moreton Bay College, share a vision, purpose and culture. “Two Colleges, One Community, preparing our students for tomorrow’s world.” The vision “Two Colleges, One Community” recognises the fact that we are two colleges, each different and unique in their own way, equally valued and respected for their different histories and cultures. With no desire from anyone that the colleges mirror each other or be identical, the vision seeks to link the colleges within a shared community. The decision to join the colleges together is, at its heart, quite simple - Moreton Bay Boys’ College and Moreton Bay College are stronger together. Both colleges have significant strengths to offer the other and together have a unique proposition in private school education. Purpose must have passion and The Moreton Bay Colleges’ passion is to develop and nurture students in an inclusive and diverse Christian learning environment. We deliver an outstanding student experience that allows students to graduate with the attitudes, attributes, and skills that will provide the keys to becoming a global citizen. Christian spirituality is the underlying inspiration that epitomises our philosophy and approach at Moreton Bay Boys’ College. The school has adopted four Values that are connected to the Christian tradition. These values are Engagement, Character, Care and Teamwork. These values are respected and upheld by the community, influence discussions and behaviours and guide the personal, moral and academic growth of our students.

Academic Programme Experts in boys’ education As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Moreton Bay Boys’ College offers the benefits of an internationally recognised approach to education. Our academic programme broadens the learning experiences of the boys through an innovative, relevant and engaging curriculum. With highly qualified teachers who are experts in boys’ education, our goal is to guide every student to achieve his desired post-school goals. We understand that not all boys learn in the same way. Indeed, there is great diversity in the way children learn. However, by providing an environment that recognises and embraces their differences, we can maximise individuals’ potential. We provide an inquiry-based approach to learning that seeks to foster curiosity about the world. It equips our students with the capacity to research, critique and synthesise information, and demonstrate the value of collaboration in learning while encouraging independence and resilience. It urges them to produce innovative solutions to real life challenges, and teaches them to use a range of media to demonstrate knowledge in general, and skills in literacy and numeracy in particular. The scope and diversity of our academic programme develops boys that want to be at school and want to learn. By encouraging each boy to achieve his potential and discover his own unique interests and talents, we raise the expectations of what our boys can accomplish. Your son will receive an outstanding student experience that enables him to be the best he can be.

Our vertical House system and Five to Thrive Wellbeing Programme also support these aims. To develop active learners and responsible global citizens for tomorrow’s world, students will develop the Five Power Skills: - Collaboration - Communication - Creativity - Critical thinking - Reflection The result is young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers.

Pastoral care approach MBBC greatly values the development of the ‘whole boy’, so our pastoral care focus is on developing boys that are equipped to tackle the world beyond the College gates. We know that building confidence and pride in the abilities of boys means they thrive academically. We do this through our emphasis on the development of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile attributes. IB learners strive to be Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk takers, Balanced and Reflective. Throughout their schooling journey, boys use this language in consideration of their own personal development and their relationships with others in the community. The wellbeing of our boys is an important issue for both parents and the College. The concept of wellbeing comprises two main elements: feeling good and functioning well. Feelings of happiness, contentment, enjoyment, curiosity and engagement are characteristic of someone who has a positive experience of their life. The implementation of our Five to Thrive wellbeing framework means that students and staff have access to a shared language and strategies to promote wellbeing. In this way, we can buffer students with the skills of wellbeing before they need them. This wellbeing framework is based on the research completed by the New Economics Foundation (NEF), establishing a set of evidence-based actions that would improve personal wellbeing. The five actions in the MBBC Five to Thrive wellbeing framework follow the suggestions from NEF’s research.
