EDITORIAL

The end in sight?

As our period of lockdown looks like it’s beginning to come to an end, what have we learned from the time we’ll remember as “Around the House in 100+days”...? hen the country first went into lockdown we couldn’t have imagined that it would last as long as it has. As the Prime Minister announced the preventative measure to stay home on March 23rd there were plenty of us who initially thought not only about hoarding toilet roll, but also about what to do with all the evenings off and some with their furloughed days too. I for one became a master of the ukulele, put on weight, saved a fortune in petrol, watched all the Marvel films in order and kept the garden very tidy. You might also have a new skill as you found extra time on your hands. You probably added hosting conference calls and Zoom-type meetings to your skillset. Unfortunately, if your meetings were anything like mine, there will have been a few video calls when you spent the entire time looking at someone’s ceiling or straight up their nose as their camera positioning was a little off. Webinar watching was also the done thing for a time as was visiting virtual exhibitions, but they just didn’t have that ‘personal’ feel. Business wise there was a slowdown in lockdown for those operating in the service industries, and some in the security sector did not dodge that bullet either. Our trade shows, for example, were all cancelled until 2021 despite the hopeful initial postponements to September 2020. It is the right move as exhibitors and visitors would have faced difficult decisions in whether to attend or not with social distancing restrictions. As stated earlier, trade shows thrive on personal interaction and if you can’t see faces or shake hands it all becomes rather sterile. Touching elbows just isn’t the same and the need for hand sanitising on every visited stand wouldn’t be fun by Day Three. But business is coming back now and not only for people making masks. There have been some (see Interview in this edition) that have kept busy throughout the last four months and many manufacturers and distributors have stayed buoyant providing supplies and service where needed - well done all. The lack of trade shows means that PSI is receiving high numbers of calls from companies wishing to promote the products they had hoped to show in the May, then September, events which is a great sign of a strong sector ready to bounce back. We’re now all wearing masks to make everyone feel safe and to try and get the public out of the house and into shops so that the retail economy can pick up. Barring a second major lockdown the signs are there for a recovery and when it comes to security, installers I have spoken to in the last few weeks are reporting that projects are starting up again. Good news at last.

INDUSTRY NEWS Sentinel and Facewatch announce partnership

ADI and Avigilon agree distribution

ADI Global Distribution has announced a distribution agreement with Avigilon. ADI customers across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) will have access to Avigilon video solutions which includes more than 100 new products being added to the ADI portfolio. Hemant Trivedi, general manager for ADI EMEA said: “We are excited by this new partnership and the benefits it will deliver to our customers.” Avigilon products will available for purchase online and in ADI branch locations across the EMEA region. “We are excited to work with ADI to offer our ecosystem to their customers,” said Paul Such, vice president of EMEA Sales Avigilon at Motorola Solutions. “With ADI’s geographic footprint and distribution channels, we will be able to expand our reach further across the security market.”

A new technology partnership between Sentinel and Facewatch has enabled them to offer an integrated solution focused on improving workplace security. Michael Askew, CEO at Monitor Computer Systems, said: “Profit margins in retail are so tight that losses from theft can undermine the viability of stores. The Facewatch facial recognition system provides a means of preventing shoplifting before it happens, resulting in loss reduction. By immediately alerting store managers and security guards of the entrance of a suspicious person, a low-key

Evolution launches new engineer training academy Evolution is expanding its Training Academy to help address the skills challenge threatening the security industry. The Academy looks to welcome a range of potential employees, from new starters to more experienced engineers with time served. For beginners, Evolution will provide training on the elementary skills including basic circuits, relays, lock and reader circuits, and practical skills such as soldering. For the more experienced engineers, the purpose is to upskill with training on the fire and security systems and technologies that Evolution specifies and installs. These include but are

response can deter would-be thieves. Where staff are unable to respond to potential theft or anti-social behaviour, the Facewatch system can transmit notifications to a Sentinel alarm receiving centre, where the operators can respond by issuing audible warnings over the store PA system. Eight ‘Til Late stores can gain particular benefit from this remote protection service during the hours when managers are not present and staff are particularly vulnerable. We believe that this combination of Facewatch and Sentinel technologies will be a big step forward in the fight against crime.” Nick Fisher, CEO at Facewatch, added: “As we come out of lockdown and enter a tough period of high unemployment and a long recession, crime and anti-social behaviour, which is already showing a huge spike, will only get worse. It is therefore incredibly timely that we have been able to partner with Michael and his team to deliver the integration upgrade now.”

not restricted to CCure, Lenel, Kantech, S2 Systems, and Honeywell. The training will not only be personalised and bespoke, but it is also ‘mobile’ such that it can be delivered remotely. Louise Gough, HR Manager at Evolution, says the launch of the Academy represents a significant investment: “We assess the skills levels and knowledge of every candidate when they apply to determine their training requirements, and then create a four-day training programme tailored to their needs. The challenge is how do companies attract, train and retain the best talent and one of the answers to that is by teaching engineers bestpractice from the start. By subsequently building on those good habits, we create a new generation of engineers who are highly professional, highly skilled, and add real value to the companies they work for and the clients they serve. Training is constantly updated and refreshed, both to satisfy their own appetite to learn, but also to ensure their knowledge reflects the broad range of skills a modern-day engineer needs to work across multiple departments and teams”

Look no further ONVIF steamlines with open source development

ONVIF, the initiative for IP-based physical security products, has announced it is implementing open source for its network interface specifications for physical security technology. The move will streamline administrative and collaborative processes while also leveraging the collective ingenuity of the global developer community. ONVIF interoperability specifications are already publicly available as open standards and are used as common communication interfaces between devices and software clients, such as IP surveillance cameras, video management software and physical access control systems from different manufacturers. The use of GitHub, an online open source development platform, will reportedly allow for easier contribution and collaboration on ONVIF specifications by applying software development tools to specification engineering.

barox technology now available through Oprema barox Kommunikation has announced that its video transmission products are now available through Oprema. “Oprema is delighted to become a distributor for the barox range of network switches,” says Tim Duggan, Technical Director at Oprema. “barox switch products offer many features that are tailored specifically for network video and security applications. In

8

This will enable software engineers and developers from security, IoT, Artificial Intelligence, cloud services and other industries to contribute new ideas and proposals, spurring greater feature interoperability and new interface specifications that will help ONVIF continue to contribute to these industries. Other important aspects of ONVIF, such as the development of ONVIF profiles and test tools, the conformant product submission process, the activities of the ONVIF committees and working groups, and the ONVIF membership and governance structure remain unchanged. “The data that powers our businesses and homes relies on feature-rich and standardised pathways of communications for interoperability, and ONVIF will continue to evolve to provide those pathways,” said Per Björkdahl, chairman of the ONVIF Steering Committee. “Augmenting our development methods with open source adds a collaborative and convenient platform through which ideas can be discussed and implemented and eases many of the administrative burdens that are inherent in the standards development process.”

addition, they offer many features that other manufacturers don’t, with many barox features targeted specifically towards IP cameras – which fits-in perfectly with us. “Our new partnership will benefit both parties. barox has a new UK distributor promoting their brand and products, while Oprema has a new product range, one that fits in a different space to our existing offering. So Oprema’s customer base now has access to a new range of high-end switching equipment – with the added benefit of the level of service and support they are accustomed to. Moving forward, Oprema will be offering system design, training, and on-site commissioning services for barox, as we strengthen our partnership over the coming months Commenting on the new distribution partnership, Rudolf Rohr, barox Co-founder & Managing partner said: “From my point of view, Oprema is a perfect fit and with the company being a Milestone distributor, barox offers exactly the right switches and a fully featured Milestone plugin.”

Genetec announces integration with Bosch MAP 5000 intrusion panels

Genetec has announced the latest integration to result from its partnership with Bosch Security Systems with the news that users of the Bosch MAP 5000 intrusion alarm panels can now directly connect to Genetec Security Center through the Intrusion Manager, combining intrusion, video and access control into one interface. Integration with Genetec Security Center ensures operators can monitor all intrusion events on dynamic maps alongside other security data such as video footage or access control records. This provides a fuller real-time understanding of what is happening in the facility so that organisations can react faster and contribute to more efficient day-to-day operations. The integration also provides customers with additional intrusion management capabilities. This includes the ability to operate all intrusion systems from a central location, an alarm persistence feature that identifies where alarms originated, and a specialised interface to ensure operations can quickly arm specific zones while continuing to monitor the rest of the system. Furthermore, it offers the potential for customers to take advantage of other integrations and modules available within Security Center. For example, with Genetec Mission Control, users can implement a decision support system that ensures each intrusion event is handled in compliance with the organisation’s standard operating procedures. “This integration further deepens our long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with Bosch, bringing true value to our joint customers and partners,” commented Francesco Serra, Vice President, Sales, Europe at Genetec. “While our existing intrusion management features have long helped customers to manage their systems more easily and to catch intruders faster, this new integration allows us to extend those benefits to new areas across Europe.”

This month Simon Banks talks to Darren Rewston, Creator of CheckMyCCTV™, a software solution that remotely performs maintenance checks for multi-brand, multi-location CCTV systems, to ensure they’re working and fit for purpose 24/7. How has the demand for remote access to CCTV systems changed during the lockdown?

Over the past few months, many Installers have seen their traditional business models disrupted and have understandably spent time reviewing their estates. Many have used this time to upgrade and future-proof older connections by moving aspects of their maintenance onto a remote checking platform. When the lockdown started, no-one knew how to react! Installers had sites that couldn’t be attended by an engineer, where stock was being stored and endusers were obviously concerned. As the risk to premises and people grew, so did the demand for remote access to ensure systems were working correctly. This was reflected in a significant increase in the number of connections compared to the same period last year. Installers wanted to be able to prove to their customers that they were still offering them a great service, even if they couldn’t physically attend a site. Has the way we monitor CCTV systems changed because of this?

In many instances, yes it has. Lots of ARCs have transitioned from their normal 12-hour monitoring set up, to 24 hours, whilst thousands of maintenance visits had to be done remotely instead of onsite. Going forward, I think this is part of the “new normal”, especially for multi-site estates, where huge savings in cost and workload reduction can be had by doing most of their service checks remotely, allowing the company to focus efforts on new business. However, simply moving these checks online does not solve the entire issue. For large multi-site retailers or critical infrastructure projects, sites are often under different management teams, and checking sites manually, even remotely, still takes a lot of time and resources. Having the ability to check thousands of sites automatically and autonomously, using an online checking platform, can save hours of time every single day. We also see instances where end-users need to complete daily checks of the CCTV systems. This can be replaced entirely with automated remote checking which also ensures they take place in a consistent format and issues are reported as they happen.

How can remote maintenance platforms benefit CCTV Installers and ARCs?

The need to be proactive, rather than reactive, is increasing all the time. With regular automated checks, issues can be identified and resolved before they become a problem. Remote maintenance checks allow Installers and ARCs to create a proactive service for their customers, reducing the need for the enduser to report faults and ensuring systems are working and fit for purpose. Onsite annual maintenance visits are still required to clean equipment and check the hardware isn’t damaged – but this only ensures the CCTV is working one day a year. For the other 364 days, it is the end-user who must spot issues on the system. Furthermore, any faults identified during a site visit may need parts to provide a fix, which could take days or weeks and could have been an issue for months. Remote access allows Installers to proactively check for and identify issues, allowing them to be prepared to fix an issue remotely, or arrange a maintenance visit if required.

panel has a layer of thermoplastic elastomer covering all mounting hole drill-outs and the cable entry point to help resist moisture penetration of the IP54 rated enclosure. There are 11 screw terminal connectors along the top of the circuit board. These are of good size to suit a standard terminal driver and are identified from left to right as follows: AM, AM, TMP, TMP, NC, NC, COM, +12V, LED, SVCE & D/N. Where AM = Anti-masking normally closed relay output, TMP = Tamper output (normally closed relay output), NC = Alarm Output (normally closed relay contact), COM and +12V are the power supply input pins, SVCE = remote control configuration set and D/N = Dusk sensor output (open collector circuit). The “Manual” is presented on a large folded 600 x 420mm sheet with small light-grey text on white, with seven different languages sharing the space so it is not ideal for field use. The website pdf downloads do allow you to copy and paste the language of interest however, so it is worth spending some time before installation to produce your own document with screen captures of any diagrams you may need. The detector may be mounted directly on to a wall or at a 45° angle using the corner mounting bracket. Alternatively, the pivoting ball-joint racket can be used, and this allows the detector to be mounted with a range of 90° horizontal and 60° vertical. When using one of these brackets, the supplied microswitch can be fitted and connected in series with the internal tamper switches or wired to a separate tamper circuit.

(continued from p12)

This dual-tech detector is straightforward to install with multiple mounting options, and relatively easy to configure especially when used with the remote Keyfob

device. As an alternative, depending on the method of control and wiring, the SVCE (Service) terminal can be externally linked to the common to enter configuration mode without removing the device cover. When in configuration mode the first setting is for the microwave sensor; here the Green LED flashes to show the sensitivity setting with a fast rate indicating higher sensitivity and the Yellow LED shows activation. Similarly, when in PIR setting mode the Yellow LED flashes to indicate sensitivity and the Green LED signals motion detected. For the Dusk setting the Red LED flashes to indicate its setting and the Yellow LED illuminates when the light level is below the set threshold. The mode switch takes you out of the setting and on to the next. Default individual sensor values can be restored by holding down the Plus and Minus buttons momentarily when in configuration mode, or for all sensors by holding them both down for more than three seconds.

Operation When power is applied the Green, Red and Yellow LEDs sequence for approximately 40 seconds as the detector goes through its start-up routine. Once operational the left hand side Green LED is used to indicate microwave sensor detection and the right hand side Yellow LED shows PIR detection. When both sensors are activated the centrally mounted Red LED illuminates to indicate

an alarm has been triggered. The LEDs can be disabled for discrete use by removing the 2-pin link at the top of the board or for remote switching, the LED terminal on the PCB can be switched to Common to Enable / Disable the LEDs. The PCB has front and rear mounted tamper switches and an additional microswitch is provided for fitting into the wall brackets if they are used. The detector draws around 20mA when in use and has an operating temperature range from 40°C to +55°C. Temperature compensation is included to take account of wide temperature variations. Individual alarms signal for 2 seconds. The normally closed alarm contacts presented a resistance of approximately 25 ohms before going open circuit on alarm. The anti-masking output had a similar 25 ohm resistance and the Tamper was less than 1 ohm when secure going to open circuit on fault condition. The microwave sensor operates at a frequency of 24GHz.

Performance The Opal Plus detector performs well and has configuration settings that once familiar with, are easy to work through and set up. When mounted at its recommended 2.4 metre height it is capable of detecting movement beyond 15 metres and includes creep zone coverage. Pet immunity (animals up to 20kg) is built in, though higher sensitivity settings may reduce the performance. Anti-masking detection is based on the microwave sensor with movement at 10 – 20cm from the detector triggering the AM relay for 2 seconds. A low voltage supply of less than 9V for more than 2 seconds will raise a continuous alarm output until correct power is restored. The optional hood provides an additional level of weather protection and is simply clipped onto the rear casing.

Conclusion This dual-tech detector is straightforward to install with multiple mounting options, and relatively easy to configure especially when used with the remote Keyfob.

VMS upgraded with enhanced event location Qognify has announced the launch of the Cayuga R15 VMS for multi-site corporate and enterprise projects focusing on enhanced usability and connectivity, improved maintainability and analytics. One of the main goals while developing Cayuga R15 was to help security personnel quickly identify, locate and evaluate an event. This can present a real challenge when operating large systems with widely distributed locations and a large number of cameras. Cayuga R15 solves this problem by supporting the use of the Esri ArcGIS mapping platform, enabling cameras to be positioned on a map and available globally – depending on access rights. Multiple views or areas of interest within one map source as well as the clustering of icons depending on the zoom level make it easy to keep the overview on the map at any time. www.qognify.com

Occupancy management added to platform

The latest version of Net2 – v6.04, from Paxton is now ready for installers to download. It features Net2 Occupancy Management which allows the limitation of the number of people in any given area; either barring access or sending an email or text to the building manager when a space nears capacity. It works across multiple areas of a site and can be set to operate a one in, one out system to support social distancing measures. In addition to this update, installers who want to use thermal scanning to help limit the spread of the virus can do so with a choice of hardware integrated from Hikvision, Dahua & ZKTeko. www.paxton-access.com

EDITOR’S CHOICE The security industry is busy and complex, so it’s easy to miss new products and services as they get lost in day-to-day activities. Every now and again, certain products grab our attention so here we take a look at a few of the products we think you won’t want to miss this month.

PoE extender cameras save time

Radar solution can determine object information InnoSenT has developed a new radar solution for close range applications. The iSYS-5005 utilises 24 GHz MIMO radar technology and has new features such as radar tracking and can also determine object information. The iSYS-5005 FMCW radar system differentiates objects via three dimensions: distance, speed, and angle information (3D radar resolution). The sensor detects multiple objects simultaneously and clearly distinguishes them from each other. This increases accuracy and presents the capability to differentiate objects allowing them to be precisely located within the space. The signal processindelivers current object data in real time. The system is predestined for two applications: security monitoring and on-demand door opening. www.innosent.de/en/index/

The new Wisenet PoE extender cameras are designed to save integrators and end users time and money when there is a requirement to install two cameras within 80 metres of each other. For retrofit applications where an additional camera is needed, system integrators need to simply substitute an existing Wisenet camera with a PoE Extender camera, and then re-install it at the new camera location, with both devices being able to share the same cable run. With the ability to support all PoE cameras within the entire Wisenet range, the new 2 and 5 megapixel PoE Extender indoor and outdoor dome cameras provide an equally cost effective solution for new installations as they reduce the number of network ports and switches, as well as the amount of cabling, required. Installation ease is matched by a reduction in the cost of the time system integrators would normally have to spend on site to install a new camera. hanwha-security.eu

Camera management software and app for simple set-up TRENDnet has introduced Mira, a new professional-grade surveillance camera management software. Mira is also the name of the software’s companion app, a free surveillance camera app for mobile devices. The Mira VMS software includes camera management features designed to simplify the monitoring of surveillance footage and the management of IP cameras. It includes much of the same features as previous TRENDnet VMS software such as live view for up to 64 IP cameras; motion detection, scheduling, and event trigger recording options; playback by event; and custom viewing modes. Mira VMS software also offers new features including support for Mac computers, e-maps for floor plan designs, and mobile app integration. Mobile app support provides instant alerts that allow for immediate action to help reduce risks and damages. The company’s new IP cameras can be set-up with a mobile device by scanning the QR code on the camera with the Mira mobile app to start the installation process. The Mira mobile app also offers access to live video, saving screenshots and videos and push notifications. www.trendnet.com

EDIT Interview psi aug20_v9_PSI_mar15 23/07/2020 17:38 Page 2

No lockdown slowdown How are systems integrators dealing with the many challenges of lockdown – and what lies ahead for them? We asked PSI reader Nicky Stokes, MD of ISD Tech, to give us an insight

s we all know, life in 2020 has been a bit different since March and no corner of the UK has remained untouched by the consequences of the lockdown. As security systems installers the restrictions of social distancing and isolation have led to a change in the way you do business. Some installers were initially reduced to carrying out emergency and remote maintenance only while others managed to keep a good level of work on the go as systems specified for preventing the spread of the virus or detecting symptoms gained momentum. To get an idea of how installation companies may be doing after over 100 days of lockdown, we spoke to Nicky Stokes of ISD Tech who remains positive about the future.

A

How have the last 100 days been for you? At the moment, things remain busy. Even with social distancing measures in place, we’ve continued to handle all aspects of integration, including surveillance, access control and intercom, which are our core projects. Did you use the furlough scheme? With projects continuing through lockdown we’ve been fortunate not to need to furlough any of our staff. Obviously not everyone is in the same situation as us but were lucky to be working on essential projects in the healthcare sector, as well as for customers in the gaming industry and in broadcasting. And we’ve tried hard to keep proactive and adaptable. Some projects have been delayed. For example, one of our US customers closed all their facilities due to Covid-19, and this held us up. But we’ve since been able to go in by taking the right precautions. We’re making sure we’re using the correct PPE, and our engineers sit separately on breaks, travel in separate

www.psimagazine.co.uk

vehicles, and avoid using public transport. We’ve had to adapt processes to minimise the risk of infection to project team members and reduce the need for staff to quarantine. How have you found the supply of kit? Like many systems integrators, we’ve had to work around the fact that deliveries of kit have become more erratic. Previously we could rely on next day availability, but supply chain challenges have made it harder to predict when some things will arrive. One of major access control vendors closed their factory, which had a knock-on effect – so we had to work quickly to find alternatives to work around the problem. Some of our suppliers, like IDIS, have kept us in the loop throughout the period and we have managed to maintain a good level of supply.

INTERVIEW

“Even with social distancing measures in place, we’ve continued to handle all aspects of integration, including surveillance, access control and intercom, which are our core projects”

How can you make virus solutions a permanent fixture? Our approach has been to look for ways that customers might be able to re-purpose temporary measures to give value in the future. For example, where we’ve been deploying thermal imaging in reception areas, we’ve shown how the same cameras can be redeployed in comms and plant rooms to monitor server-racks, or air conditioning, etc. These are quite often requirements that should have been addressed before, but security is often a siloed

function, meaning other department heads are often not familiar with the benefits thermal cameras can offer. So, we are explaining how this technology is really good at alerting to the overheating of components that is often the precursor to a complete equipment or system failure, resulting in expensive repair services and call out fees. So, now is a good opportunity to get buy-in from other departments, and to get budgets released, which is exactly what we’re doing for many large London-based buildings. At the same time, most of our sales activity has moved to video conferencing. And with new

20

technologies, such as video analytics that can be deployed to address occupancy density, we need to demonstrate these capabilities virtually – and not just show how they can address immediate challenges but how they can deliver operational efficiency and valuable intelligence in the future. It’s really important for manufacturers to have up to date marketing and sales support assets, and in particularly videos showing examples of technology working on sites similar to the potential customers. Particularly when it comes to new applications that use AI and deep learning, it’s those materials that are helping us close deals. How do you feel about the future? Looking further ahead, we are optimistic. We have a mixed portfolio of customers, so although some non-committed projects have been put on hold for the next year, we have others that are too far advanced to cancel. We’ve seen areas like food production affected by the disruption to fast food businesses – but that’s been offset by a boom in areas such as pharmaceuticals and gaming. For example, one of our gaming customers has just taken on a new eight-storey building in central London. So, I’m confident projects in these critical or fastgrowth sectors will keep us busy for the remainder of the year, while many other businesses will need time to adapt and assess the economic impact. It’s been a learning curve and everyone is thinking on their feet and trying to do the best they can. We’ve been working with facilities and property managers, especially those managing multi-tenanted high-rise towers, and they realise the big challenge ahead of them to achieve anything close to how they previously operated while adhering to new safety guidelines. I think that as with any new situation there will be ‘first wave’ solutions, and then there will be improvements further down the line. Where you have high occupancy buildings and challenges with lift queues that’s going to be very difficult to solve with social distancing, especially in busy areas of major cities. It may be that remote working will play a bigger role from now on. In fact, some companies have realised for the first time it’s actually more productive and cost-efficient to have some staff working from home.

EDIT Inside Story Aug20_v9_000_PSI_mar15 23/07/2020 17:44 Page 1

INSIDE STORY - HKC

Upgraded intruder packs unveiled HKC has announced upgrades to its Quantum 70 Packs 2 and 3 with more detectors plus on-board Wi-Fi now included. We take a closer look..

The packs have now been updated, at no extra cost, to include more detectors as well as an on-board Wi-Fi communication module

he Quantum 70 from HKC Security, an Assa Abloy group company, is a fully integrated, wireless control panel using the company’s two-way wireless technology. On-board horizontal and vertical antennas have been designed to ensure that end-device signal paths will be robust across a range of applications. With an integrated keypad, siren and communication module, installation is simplified, and the aesthetics and design lines mean that it can be mounted anywhere in the premises. The panel is available in several self-contained packs each with varying peripherals. These packs have now been updated, at no extra cost, to include more detectors as well as an on-board WiFi communication module. The upgraded packs both feature the Grade 2 Q70 Control Panel with 70 wireless zones along with the following devices:

T

Pack 2: Q70 Control Panel plus: • 3 RF Quad PIRs • 1 RF Miniature Door Contact • 1 External RF Siren Pack 3: Q70 Control Panel plus: • 1 RF PIR Camera • 2 RF Quad PIRs • 1 RF Miniature Door Contact • 1 External RF Siren 22

To find out more about the upgraded packs and the benefits they bring for installers, we spoke to Nick Quigley at HKC: What is different about the new packs compared to previous versions? The key differences are the inclusion of an additional PIR Quad detector in both Pack 2 and Pack 3 along with an on-board WiFi module replacing the traditional dialler (DTV). This is achieved without impacting the cost of the Packs. Did the changes to the packs come about from installer feedback? Indeed, they did, installers have moved towards IP communication as a solution for their communication needs and by including WiFi on board they can now connect their customer to the HKC App. It also means that they can remotely access their client sites using the HKC Engineer App saving both time and money. What are the benefits of buying the Q70 system in a pack? One of the key benefits is that the Quantum Panel includes an on-board keypad, built in siren and now WiFi as standard. Alarm users usually want an App to control their system remotely and these Packs allows the installer to set the customer up on HKC’s SecureComm Cloud allowing full remote access to their system. The App signals all alarm activations by both text & audibly and the user

can check the activity log at any time. A hidden benefit is that this also gives the installer remote access to the customer’s site. Which applications are the packs most suitable for? The Quantum kits are designed primarily for the residential and small SME/Commercial applications. For larger premises and applications HKC’s SW 10270 is a hybrid panel with an over 200 wireless zone capability. What does HKC’s SecureComm Cloud bring to an installation? The communication landscape has evolved immensely over the last 5 years with a massive jump to IP signalling. This has opened several opportunities to make life easier for today’s Professional Installer. HKC have invested significantly in its SecureComm Platform which has delivered multiple benefits to our installers from remote access to upgrading software without leaving their office. The Cloud solution also features an end to end billing module to allow installers build and control their recurring revenues.

SecureComm Features include an end user App (pictured right), engineer App, upload /download, remote maintenance and enables you to manage recurring revenues. How do you think intruder technology will evolve going forward? I believe we will see continued convergence in the marketplace. Intruder, CCTV, access, in addition to home management devices, have continued to become part of the expected norm in terms of home and business systems. I would expect App technology to keep pace with these growing needs. Additionally, we are seeing detection devices becoming smaller – indeed HKC have just launched an RF Miniature Contact sensor and will later this year launch a similar sized RF Inertia and Contact sensor.

Meet the installer What would be a typical project for you? One of the joys of this role is that no two days are the same, so in that sense we don’t have typical projects. We provide a range of bespoke services for diverse clients including governments, commercial clients and in residential settings including high net worth clients. So, one week any one of our engineers maybe conducting a routine service in an anonymous government building. The following week may be in an exclusive Beverly Hills mansion undergoing renovation, stripping out and refitting new systems; working closely with other professional partners including specialist architects, builders, and interior designers to meet the exacting standards of finish demanded. Do you have any 'go to' technology? We use a range of manufacturers and some specialist technologies depending on the user requirements. However, my preferred suppliers for intruder alarms remains Texecom where we have an excellent working relationship with Michael Govier, the Customer Alignment Manager and for CCTV is Avigilon where we work closely with Rob Scott. Both these companies invest in developing their technologies to maximise the potential of their systems. The features available provide us with the ability to work smartly across the globe coordinating and responding to complex situations ultimately delivering safety and security for our cohort of clients. We have direct and close relationships with both companies who provide us with an outstanding level of personal support and service when designing installing and maintaining bespoke systems for high profile clients.

Internally such accreditations provide clear benchmarking with consistent standards that every member of staff must work to. Changes in technologies and thinking mean that we have access to and are exposed to the latest standards. Having a shared understanding across the business assists the leadership team and all members of staff to pull in the same direction. Externally accreditations such as being on the NSI Gold register is readily recognised as the ‘Gold Standard’ across industry sectors and provides customers reassurance that the company can do what it says! Without doubt we have won business by ensuring that we have the right accreditations to reassure industry partners and clients that we take our work seriously and are at the top of our game.

(L-R): Adam Rust, Installations Director and Joseph McGee, Group CEO

“We consistently try to recruit more female engineers and involve professional bodies to offer security installation as an alternative career choice, this is an ongoing challenge” 38

Do you think there is a skills shortage in the industry? Recruiting and equally important retaining good people requires continuous investment. We had a round of recruitment prior to Covid 19 striking and were very fortunate to find and recruit some very skilled and committed individuals, however we worked very hard over a period of time to find the right people, it wasn’t easy. There is a clear shortage of suitably qualified engineers, equally important to us is finding the people with the right aptitude, and attitude to work in a consistent and selfdisciplined manner to the exacting standards we maintain. We consistently try to recruit more female engineers and involve professional bodies to offer security installation as an alternative career choice, this is an ongoing challenge. Of course, employment is a two-way relationship we ensure we offer competive pay scales, provide a welcoming flexible and friendly working environment. We passionately believe in continuous professional development and all our staff are provided opportunities to maintain and develop skills and grow with the company. We are fortunate enough to be able to work in some stunning buildings and locations around the world which all engineers get to experience if they so wish. We are growing and will be recruiting again soon which will include apprenticeships as well as qualified engineers. We have an Armed Forces Bronze Covenant and use that to help advertise roles widely across the armed services, but equally use social media and traditional advertising to attract the widest pool of talent possible from which to select our new team members. Are there any common requests from customers that give you problems? Particularly, high end installations clients are always interested in aesthetic appearance of buildings and do not want any of the security features to be visible. There is a significant amount that we can do to conceal peripherals, we work with 3D printing specialists to hide as much

of the units as possible, carefully designed placement and specialist matched painting of parts of the units that do not compromise the standards or function. Much to the annoyance of many high-end interior designers we cannot make it all invisible and makes for some interesting conversations! Positively though this drives innovation, tests our creative thinking and problem-solving skills, invariably we find the right compromise which meets the necessary security standards while dealing sympathetically with the aesthetics of the installations. What is the security/fire industry’s biggest myth? I think from a customer perspective is often, “It won’t happen to me.” Invariably exposing a level of naivety on the threat and risk present. Engaging with new clients to get a real strategic understanding and assessment of the threats and risks they or their business face is a complex, methodical and time-consuming process. Designing bespoke responses ensuring protective security measures and mitigations are proportionate, effective and responsive can be a really challenging argument to make, however educating without scaring clients is an immensely satisfying part of the role. Building trust is key to improving their situational awareness, safety and security and is always a positive thing to do. Implementing a professional and multi layered security regime will never provide 100% guarantees that it won’t happen, but it will prevent, delay or deter all but the most determined attempt by any malicious individual intent on causing harm. Doing that in the public service and now in the private sector is not a bad reason to get up out and of bed each day! What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself? Academically work harder, schooling is ultimately more beneficial than playing rugby. At every opportunity, network! Will England ever win the football World Cup again? Wrong shaped ball for me to have an informed opinion on, now Rugby World Cup – yes of course we will! If you won £25,000 what would you do with the money? As a group we actively support the charities, Veterans for Wildlife and Medway Street Cops. We also support a local school to enable students to play sport in an international arena. I would heavily donate to all of these causes.

EDIT Ajax aug20_v9_PSI_mar15 23/07/2020 17:54 Page 2

New innovations for 2020

In July, Ajax held an online event to present its new technologies for 2020. Here is a breakdown of some of the announcements he virtual presentation watched in 96 countries and held in nine languages covered the devices and software that Ajax had been working on in the first half of 2020. These included:

T

Two-factor authentication and session control

No matter how advanced the security system is it has an Achilles heel – a user account that can be accessed by others. Ajax decided to add modern digital security tools and from early May all Ajax users can utilise default sessions control and an option to activate two-factor authentication. With these, attackers will not be able to access the user’s account even knowing a login and a password. And if an account is accessed from a suspicious device, the users will immediately be notified about this and will be able to terminate a session.

power supplies, allowing users to power the devices from a battery.

Hub 2 Plus

The new central unit has a processor that is four times more powerful than in a normal hub and has eight times more memory. It supports more detectors than the previous models – up to 200, including those with photo-verification, and more cameras – up to 100 pieces. LTE support is available for the first time. In total, there are four independent communication channels: 2х SIM (4G/3G/2G), Ethernet, Wi-Fi. In this way, even an abnormal series of failures or malfunctions in the network equipment will not prevent the system from communicating with the outside world.

Ajax has introduced StreetSiren DoubleDeck, a wireless outdoor siren with a mount for a branded front panel. It can display the logo and the contacts of a security or an installation company that is responsible for the security of the facility.

OS Malevich 2.10

For a modern look, Ajax has introduced StreetSiren DoubleDeck, a wireless outdoor siren with a mount for a branded front panel

Hub data import

With the next update of the branded OS Malevich operating system, Ajax will have the Data Import function. If, earlier, the process of reconnecting all detectors from an old hub to a new one could take several hours, now, an installer should now be able to manage it in five minutes. Now, there is no need to reconfigure the central unit, dismantle and reconnect each device in the system, invite users, and define their rights. To import, users will only need access to the old hub and an internet connection.

OS Malevich 2.9

The release of OS Malevich 2.9 is scheduled for this August. The new version of the operating system will be available to the hubs of all models within a month. The OS update will also bring a number of additional features: • Temporary device shutdown will allow users to avoid false alerts if the devices are not working correctly • Pulse mode is a temporary power supply to a relay and the Socket smart plug. It will allow users to configure automation scenarios and home protection more comfortably. • Custom type alarms for the Button: The panic button can be programmed for a specific notification type – intrusion, fire, medical assistance, panic button, gas alarm. • Smartphone coordinates transfer: When the panic button is pressed, the coordinates of the smartphone will be transferred to the security company app. • Protection against accidental pressing for 40

Looking ahead, in the Autumn, Ajax will present a new operating system OS Malevich 2.10, which will contain a number of software solutions. After this update, alarm confirmation with multiple detectors will become available, and an optional two-stage arming/disarming mode will be introduced.

MultiTransmitter

The new MultiTransmitter integration module allows the integration of third-party wired detectors into the Ajax system. It is now possible to connect 18 wired devices to it simultaneously and set up an alarm type for each of them. There is no need to remove cables that have already been laid or to throw away the old detectors; cable devices will be connected to MultiTransmitter and will transmit alarms to the Ajax hub via the Jeweller radio network. Then, the hub will send them to the user’s smartphone and the security company’s monitoring station. There is an option to use groups, 24/7 arming mode, and even involve third-party devices in scenarios. Now, the user will also be able to add Ajax security system detectors, which will work together with the wired ones.

911: monitoring station

For security companies and large corporate clients, Ajax presented a beta version of its own central monitoring station — 911. With it, any security company will be able to monitor alarms and there will be no need to worry about buying and configuring servers, organising network infrastructure, or dedicated IP. Just connecting a computer to the Internet and logging into the Ajax PRO account will be enough as all processing takes place in the Cloud.

INTRATONE

Digital developments This month PSI talks to Victor d’Allancé of Intratone about the access control market in the UK and trends in 2020 ast month we looked at how the property management sector is one area in particular that could reap significant security benefits by implementing more digital ways of working such as GSM solutions for access control. This month we continue the focus on this technology talking to Victor d’Allancé, UK Country Manager at Intratone, to find out about how the wireless systems are being received in the market.

L

Victor d’Allancé, UK Country Manager at Intratone

The impact of smartphones on the access control market has been amazing. A homeowner can answer a call from their intercom anywhere in the world and choose whether or not to grant access

42

How is the UK business doing? Intratone is a subsidiary of Cogelec, a company that has been innovating and manufacturing intercoms and access control systems in France for 20 years. We are recognised market leaders in France and have built a strong reputation across Europe over the years. The UK has always been a part of our plans – we actually hired our first UKbased sales rep in 2011. 2019 was an exciting year for Intratone. When I joined the team in April 2019, we had a small team who were generating good business, but one key focus has been to lay the groundwork for long-term success here in the UK. This has included: 1. Honing our strategy – we’re market leaders across Europe, and we have a business strategy that’s proven and effective. Naturally, to make it work in the UK, we’ve had to adapt to the market. Taking the time to really get to know the ins and outs of our partners and their businesses has helped us refine our strategy to the specifics of the UK market. 2. Finding our new UK HQ –finding a long-term

home for Intratone UK has been critical. It’s more than just an office, it’s a space that gives us the opportunity to grow our team, host our partners for meetings and trainings, and provide support for our customers. 3. Building out our team – making sure that we have the right people, in the right roles has been hugely important. We have a fantastic team of 20 people in the UK, with dedicated Area Sales Managers based in regional markets around England, Scotland, and Wales. Our London HQ is home to our Inside Sales, Finance, Marketing and Tech Support teams. At the start of 2020, we hit the ground running. While the past few months have presented many unexpected challenges for everyone, demand for our solutions has stayed strong and we’re still on track with our ambitious growth targets and vision for the UK. How has the pandemic affected the demand for access control? COVID-19 has undoubtedly changed the market overnight. Lockdown and social distancing have shaken up old ways of working and pushed the market towards digitalisation. Traditional access control solutions just don’t offer the flexibility needed to respond to what is going on in the world today. When the pandemic first started, our CEO told us to be prepared because the benefits of our technology would fit the demands raised by a situation like this, especially with the need for contactless access and to be able to work quickly and without disturbing the tenants. Contact-free is a feature that is in large demand for access control. There is a lot of interest in our proximity readers and transmitters, which allow residents to gain access to entry points without touching any panels or touchpads. Our online management portal allows housing associations and property managers to have complete oversight over their building access from anywhere. They can make updates in realtime – from changing resident details, to deactivating a lost key fob, to granting access to contractors – without having to leave their house or their office. While it’s a different way of working for some, this shift towards digitalisation allows housing professionals to take back control of their properties and their time. Finally, we have seen a real increase in interest from the installer community. Our solutions help

installers get back to work – they are able to satisfy their customers by installing quickly and without having to go into properties to fit systems. They are able to complete installations while complying with social distancing guidelines. We are thrilled that our solutions can help keep the industry going and get installers back to work quickly and safely. There are many ways to grant access, how can installer make the right decision? Installers have a big responsibility – their advice can directly impact the security of a property and the safety of its residents. It’s important for installers to stay on top of innovations in the market and new technology, which is often much easier said than done, but it’s key to futureproofing their business and creating loyal customers. In making access control decisions, the more you know about your customers, the better. What are their pain points? Why are they looking for a new system? Who are their residents? The better you understand who your customers are, the easier it is for an installer to identify the right system for the job. Last, I’d encourage installers to challenge their customers – all too often, we see old, outdated systems being specified for projects, because “it’s what we had before”. By challenging customers to consider new technology, installers are in a unique position to really help transform the day to day lives of property professionals. How has the rise in the use of smart phones affected access control? The impact of smartphones on the access control market has been amazing. A homeowner can answer a call from their intercom anywhere in the world and choose whether or not to grant access. When I first started in this industry, I told my friends and family about the technology and they said it sounded like such an obvious function – but the hard part is not the idea, it is making the system work and having a successful business. The growth of mobile phone use has been stunning and for us it helps improve what we can do for customers. We know that before breaking in, most burglars ring the doorbell first to see if anyone is home, but thanks to the use of smart devices the homeowner can answer the door without being there so the burglar does not know that the house is actually empty, but he knows he's been seen and someone is aware that he is there. I would say that the popularity of smartphones and tablets has transformed the industry and, to be honest, I think we are only at the beginning of what these devices can be used for in the security sector.

www.psimagazine.co.uk

How secure is GSM – can it be hacked? As you can imagine, this is a question we get asked quite often. Considering we have been working with this technology since before it truly became mainstream, our development team in France has been able to adapt and evolve our systems as the technology has improved, to keep our systems as secure as possible. We implement industry best practices for data security, including secured https connections, hosting our data in secure data centres, strict control and management of our data, among other measures – all in accordance with GDPR. What’s particularly advantageous about our systems is that our GPRS and 4G modules are not connected to a particular provider’s data network, so they are not accessible in that manner. While we can’t speak to the security of other applications of GSM technology, as a company, Intratone takes the privacy and security of our customers very seriously, therefore we are regularly reviewing and improving our systems.

I’d encourage installers to challenge their customers – all too often, we see old, outdated systems being specified for projects, because “it’s what we had before”

What does the future hold for the security industry? I think that social distancing will continue to be the norm for some time meaning that contactless access control will remain at the forefront of people's minds and take place as the preferred solution. Similarly, I can see the continued push towards digitisation and the use of technology for applications that were previously inefficient. Technology is meant to make our lives better and I think that is what we will continue to see this develop in the future as our social requirements change.

Attack of the clones?

A significant number of the cards and tokens used in both residential and commercial access control systems are vulnerable to cloning. Richard Tweedie, product delivery and quality assurance manager at PAC, examines the scale of the issue, outlines the various levels of security available and suggests what to look for in order to mitigate any risk. ontactless access control systems typically store data in cards and tokens, as well as increasingly in mobile phones, however, in some cases these can be cloned. What’s particularly concerning is that, depending on their level of security, it is possible to do this using tools that can be purchased online for as little as £10. As a result, manufacturers are increasingly incorporating advanced encryption into their devices so that they cannot be copied, while also producing access control systems with different levels of security to suit specific applications.

C

Motivating factors

There are several reasons why cards and tokens are cloned, ranging from seemingly innocent to totally nefarious. For example, within the

www.psimagazine.co.uk

residential sector it is sometimes done to avoid paying official fees for replacement devices, to allow a friend or relative access, or to simply avoid any immediate hassle if a device is misplaced. Within corporate environments a copy might be used to gain unauthorised entry to property, duplicate access privileges, commit time and attendance fraud, carry out monetary transactions such as cashless catering or transport fares, or to access privileged systems or facilities. It’s now easier and cheaper than ever before to compromise some access control systems. In the earliest days of cards and tokens, radio frequency identification (RFID) 125/153kHz unencrypted technology was the de-facto choice for most manufacturers, and many systems with this technology are still in use. Although it took

ACCESS CONTROL

(continued from previous page)

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, so when you are recommending an access control system, or when your customers are first looking to have one fitted, it is advisable to carry out a comprehensive risk assessment hackers a number of years to work out how to infiltrate RFID systems, a cursory search on YouTube throws-up numerous videos of individuals cloning cards and tokens with apparent ease. In some cases they can even be copied using radio or ‘skimming’ techniques to extract data. For systems utilising this type of older technology, the only way to protect against this threat has been to adopt multimode authentication, such as a PIN and card readers that require an identification device in addition to a user specific PIN code. This solution is still valid with the right access control readers, providing best practices on keyholder management are deployed.

Risky business

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, so when you are recommending an access control system, or when your customers are looking to first have one fitted, it is advisable to carry out a comprehensive risk assessment. As part of this process the end user should consider whether they want all credentials to be unique and/or if a system administrator should be allowed to 46

generate duplicate cards or tokens. They should also assess how easily a card or token could be copied without access to administrative software and if a higher level of security, such as encryption, would be more desirable. For systems already in-situ, one highly recommended course of action is to carry out a penetration review to identify whether credentials can be cloned or copied. The internal threat should also be considered. For instance, the transactions on an audit report are no longer acceptable as proof of someone’s activities, as an individual can simply claim it was not them and that their card or token must have been copied. In addition, many corporate compliance rules can easily be broken by employees modifying their cards and tokens to perform actions such as secure document printing, and logging on to unauthorised computers and IT equipment.

Level best

Various types of cards and tokens are available but some offer greater protection against copying than others. There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution and the technology types can be broken down into low, medium and high grades. Not surprisingly, low security devices have a higher risk of being cloned. These solutions can be generated on-site by an end user, which although practical, can allow duplicate

SMOKE DETECTION

credentials to be cloned quite easily. With medium security devices cloning is possible with the right knowledge and tools. Within this category are manufacturer generated cards and tokens that have identification data written on to a chip with no encryption in place between the reader and the credential. Generally, duplicates will need to be sourced through a manufacturer, a locksmith or somebody with specialist chip programming capabilities. High security solutions, however, use encryption to prevent cards and tokens being cloned. For example, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) compliance is recognised as being ultra-secure. Devices that incorporate it can better protect data by ensuring that a reader validates the credential before processing the data and forwarding it to the rest of the system. Furthermore, The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has published guidance to help improve the evaluation of the administration, enforcement, performance and support properties of mechanisms that are embedded in access control systems – and additional advice about the key security principles to be considered when procuring RFID smartcards and readers for access control system is on offer from Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI).

On the move

When it comes to high security, mobile credentials that allow a user to authenticate their smartphone and use it as a key to gain access can also be highly resistant to cloning, particularly when information is stored in the cloud. The reasons for this are quite straightforward – people generally have their

www.psimagazine.co.uk

smartphones with them at all times and rarely allow others to use them. These devices also feature two-factor authentication (2FA) incorporating biometrics and have functionality that allows them to be tracked. In 2017, Gartner predicted that by the end of this year 20 per cent of organisations will use smartphones in place of traditional physical access cards and tokens. Recognising their growing popularity, leading access control providers have developed Bluetooth based systems with a range of identification modes including placing a smartphone in front of a reader, placing a hand close to a reader, simply passing in front of a reader, or tapping a smartphone screen twice. By downloading an app a virtual credential can be configured in a smartphone wallet, allowing the user to have multiple virtual ‘keys’ for different areas or sites. Some systems can also be configured to use proximity based NFC instead of Bluetooth, or a combination of the two.

One of the reasons that cloning has become widespread is that the chances of getting caught are close to zero. In even the most serious cases prosecutions are disconcertingly rare and by the time an alarm is raised the culprit has usually covered their tracks to evade detection

Staying vigilant

One of the reasons that cloning has become widespread is that the chances of getting caught are close to zero. In even the most serious cases prosecutions are disconcertingly rare and by the time an alarm is raised the culprit has usually covered their tracks to evade detection. In a world where 100 per cent protection can’t be achieved, it is imperative that an access control system is reviewed and tested on a regular basis to highlight any vulnerabilities – even the resilience of systems with the highest levels of protection may decrease over time as copying techniques improve.

How to retain contracts In the latest in this series of articles on growing your service business, Jim Rathbone looks at the importance of retaining contracts and how to maximise retention and minimise attrition Let us consider four essential factors in achieving high contract retention: Recognise the critical importance of contract retention It is far more expensive to acquire new customers than it is to keep and develop existing customers. Security installers should do everything they can to recognise the signs of an “at risk” customer and win back their loyalty. Even more now than ever, due to the impact of Covid 19 on the economy, customers are looking harder at their costs and how to reduce them. This can lead them to seek alternative quotes for service contracts at renewal time.

Retention of customers and service contracts is of paramount importance and this can fall between the cracks of a dual focus on technology and on winning sales to new customers

Deliver a positive experience throughout the customer journey Much business advice is focused on sales and marketing and on attracting new customers. Yet retention of customers and service contracts is of paramount importance – and this can fall between the cracks of a dual focus on technology and on winning sales to new customers. I like the “ICARE “model described in Ken Blanchard’s book “Legendary Service”: • “I” stands for ideal service. Begin by asking yourself how you can ideally meet your customers’ needs. • “C” stands for customer service culture. Develop an environment which focuses on delivering what your customer needs. • “A” stands for attentiveness. Be attentive to what your customers are saying and what they want. • “R” stands for responsiveness. Show your customers how much you care by the speed and effectiveness of your response. • “E” stands for empowerment. Empower your employees to deliver great customer service Measure and analyse contract attrition rate levels Measure contract attrition levels so that you know your contract attrition rate. Annual structural attrition, in normal business cycles, runs at around 5% i.e. lost contracts due to customers moving, business liquidations, etc. If attrition is greater than 5%, this indicates that contracts are being lost because the customer has chosen to engage a competitor due to perceived poor service or because they do not believe they are getting value for money. Track the reason why the cancellation has occurred e.g. poor service, price (value for

money), liquidation, move of home or business etc. When it is not about relocation or liquidation, take action to address the customer’s concern. Develop and deploy multiple retention strategies: a. Have regular service level agreement reviews with key customers and make customer care calls. Segment your customers to identify those that represent 80% of your total contract value. Have regular face to face SLA meetings with your highest value customers. Make a planned call to customers whose annual contract is more than £1000 three months before the contact expires. Confirm during this call that the customer is satisfied with the service you provide and that there are no service delivery issues. If there are issues, resolve them speedily. Confirm their intention to renew the contract in advance of the renewal notice being sent. If they are satisfied, use the call to cross-sell other services on disciplines you are not currently servicing. b. Review your written renewal communications. This can often just be an invoice with the price for the coming year. Why not also include a reminder of the benefits of the service contract you offer and a reference to the full range of product disciplines you can service? c. Respond effectively to a cancellation request. When customers request to cancel their contracts, ask them for their reasons and offer them an alternative that counteracts their perceptions. Make sure your staff is well trained in offering alternatives and have access to all relevant customer data. d. Market to new occupiers. Develop a clear sales process for communicating with the new occupiers of a private residence or commercial building. This may involve direct mail followed up by telephone. e. Develop win-back strategies. Contact your lost customers and make them an offer to win them back. This can be done by email, or by letter, ideally followed up by telephone. The customer may have initially left you to take up a lower priced offer from a competitor - but their service experience with the new supplier might be negative and they may be having buyer’s remorse. Retention of customers and service contracts are vital for the business success and profitability of the security installer. Given its importance, it makes sense to deliver a positive experience throughout the customer journey, measure and analyse the attrition rate and develop and deploy multiple retention strategies.
