Its first purpose was to house government offices. It is now a building that houses a significant art collection and an icon of the Historical Center, a must for tourists.

Unique details

Its unique style combines colonial architecture with French and neoclassical influence, known as baroque. It has hundreds of details in every corner, corridor, or column. Each architectural or artistic specification has a blueprint kept in the museum’s art gallery.

The color of the building is “a love story,” according to Daniel Orozco, administrator of the Palace, “the favorite color of Mr. Ubico’s wife, Marta Lainfiesta, was green, based on her taste, the building is of this color,” he said. There is a replicate of Jorge Ubico’s fingerprint on each building door. There are several building details where you can find the number 5.

Restorations

The architectural jewel was declared a historical monument in November 1980. During the last few years, several restoration works have taken place on this important site.
