Su historia nos lleva a 1950, cuando se celebró la primera Vuelta Centroamericana, pero fue en 1952 cuando evolucionó la carrera y en 1956 llamaba la atención de diferentes sectores, por lo que en 1957 se aprobó la celebración de la primera Vuelta a Guatemala; esta tenía un circuito de 140 kilómetros, se inició un 4 abril y finalizó el 13 del mismo mes. Jorge Armas fue el ganador de la primera etapa y así se llevó el primer Suéter Quetzal, mientras que Jorge Surqué se convirtió en el primer campeón.

Incluso, ese año el español Esteban Martín conquistó el tour.

En la actualidad, la Vuelta Ciclística es toda una festividad y uno de los eventos más desafiantes para los deportistas, pues los habitantes esperan observar el paso de los titanes de los caminos, quienes se impresionan por la forma en que se vive este deporte en el país. ¡Visítenos!

One of the most expected and important competitions take place in Guatemala. The Bicycle Tour, also known as the Guatemalan Bicycle Tour, runs through the country’s main roads and is part of the UCI America Tour.

Quite a festivity!

Its history takes us back to 1950 with the celebration of the first Central American Tour; by 1952, the race had evolved, but it was in 1956 that it attracted the attention of different circles. In 1957 the approval of the first Guatemalan Bicycle Tour with a circuit of 140 kilometers. It started on April 4th and ended on the

13th of the same month. Jorge Armas was the first stage winner, taking home the first Quetzal Sweater, while Jorge Surqué became the first champion.

In its early years, Guatemalan cyclists dominated the competition. Still, everything changed in 1962 when riders from Colombia, Spain, and El Salvador began to compete. That year the Spanish cyclist Esteban Martín won the tour.

Today, one of the most challenging events for athletes is a festival and the locals look forward to watching the pass of the “titans of the road”, who are awed by how passionate the country is about this sport. Come visit!
