The National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, located in Guatemala City, houses more than 25 thousand Mayan archaeological pieces in its ten different rooms. The Ministry of Culture and Sports recently completed renovations so guests can visit pleasantly.

The Minister Felipe Aguilar, assured “we are recovering the place” and shared that the precinct has a new thermoacoustic ceiling, which will isolate the temperature and sounds, as well as the improvement in the structure; finally, he emphasized that the 48 monuments that the place houses received a renovation process.

Archaeology

The museum opened its doors in 1931. Since then, it has protected Mayan archaeological pieces such as stelae, altars, jade objects, and ceramics from the pre-classic, classic, and post-classic periods.

You can also observe different indigenous musical instruments, as well as a collection of regional costumes. As for works of art, you will appreciate the mural “La religión de Guatemala” (The Religion of Guatemala), by Roberto González Goyri; the mural “El indígena en la cultura guatemalteca,” (The Indigenous People in Guatemalan Culture) by Dagoberto Vásquez, and two works of Tecún Umán and Atanasio Tzul, sculpted by Rodolfo Galeotti Torres.
