Reproducing the Logotype (Georgian)

These guidelines describe the basic rules of designing with/reproducing the Populi brand identity. In order to gain maximum benefit from these guidelines they must be used consistently, as even small variations will undermine the impact of the Populi brand identity.

The Populi logotype consists of the “Populi� typography and a red sphere with the green leaf (example 1). The mark represents an apple that symbolizes freshness .

Where possible, the Populi logotype should be displayed on a flat white background (example 1). The logotype can also be displayed as white reversed out of black (example 2).

Use of the logotype The precise position and proportion of all the logotype elements is fixed and must always be reproduced in the set relationship shown here. The elements must never be re-drawn or modified in any way. Printing the logotype The use of the Populi logotype in any printed material must be in CMYK or Pantonne mode.

When reproducing the logotype for print on colored background, care must be taken to ensure that the area surrounding the logotype is tonally even and either sufficiently light or sufficiently dark. Reproducing the Logotype in Black and White

1. Black on Bright Colored Background

Wherever possible, the logotype should be reproduced in the Populi red and green. When reproducing the logotype for print on colored background, care must be taken to ensure that the area surrounding the logotype is tonally even and either sufficiently light or sufficiently dark. To ensure that logotype is legible on colored background it should always be either all white or all black.

2. White on Dark Colored Background

For printed material, the logotype should only be reproduced in black and white when appearing on black and white print backgrounds. When printing in black and white, the Populi logotype can be reproduced as black reversed out of white on a light background (example 3), or white reversed out of black on a dark background (example 4).

When reproducing the logotype for print on gradient background, care must be taken to ensure that the area surrounding the logotype is tonally even and either sufficiently light or sufficiently dark to ensure the logotype is legible. If the gradient background color is bright the logo should be all black, if the backgound color is dark the logo should be all white. (example 5, examlpe 6).

Reproducing the Logotype on Photo and Gradient Backgrounds

When using a PHOTOGRAPHIC background, the legibility of the logotype is of paramount importance. When the backround is textured, to ensure legibility, the designer must always use white block under the logo. Exclusion zone must also be considered.

What Not to do With the Logotype

Never rotate the logo

Never change the color of the mark

Never change the composition

Never change the typography

Never outline the logotype

Examples show inconsistent use of the Populi logotype. Altering the Populi logotype will undermine the impact of the identity and therefore the Populi brand. Hence, it is never adviced 10

Reproducing the Logotype (English)

These guidelines describe the basic rules of designing with/reproducing the Populi logotype in English. For most part, all the rules that apply to the Georgian version of the logotype, also apply to the English version of the logotype. There are few exceptions which are demonstrated in following section

Use of the logotype

The colour gives our brand its face. Populi is a dominantly red brand. A spectrum of primary and secondary colours help to create varied and exciting applications.

Typography

Typography is an important element of the Populi brand identity system to help to create recognition of the brand. Uni Sans is the font used for all Latin Populi applications. The Georgian equivalent font is called Bpg Phone. The system font for web and office applications is Arial for Latin and Sylfaen for Georgian.

For demonstration purposes English and placeholder text (Lorem Ipsum)is used on many applications in these guidelines.

In Georgian language headlines and titles are usually set in BPG Phone Bold. Body copy usually appears in BPG Phone Regular.

Use typography in a bold and confident way. In all applications, Georgian is the dominant language and English the secondary one.

All fonts used for Populi applications will either be provided by Populi Marketing department, or must be purchased at www.myfonts.com or at www.fonts.ge. Please contact the Populi Marketing department for further information.

A grid system is utilized for the print layouts, which help to create consistency in design, and to define the size and placement of the brandmark as well as the graphic device.

For consistent layout purposes, a master layout grid is used for all print applications (editorial). The layout grid is based on the A4 master grid. It is constructed with 6 vertical and 10 horizontal columns.

The position and size of the brandmark Cell is always based on the grid, and the graphic device is constructed according to the grid, too. Use it further for the placement and alignment of text and image boxes in the layout

For any DIN format, scale the master grid which is based on the A4 format. Please use the template files provided whenever possible.

Photographic Style

Plantitude and Freshness is essencial component of photography for Populy Brand

Imagery plays a vital role in the Populi master brand identity system. The correct and consistent use of imagery is a powerful means of strengthening the recognition of the brand – it reflects Populi’s personality and beliefs and creates differentiation. 32

This photographic style is based on idea of Plantitude and Freshness. Populi images must depict fruits, vegetables and other Populi products that are composed in a bunch and in hue match the hues of Populi Brand Color Swatch.

For the photographic style Populi Red, Populi Green or any other Populi Secondary color should be dominant. The Image can be predominantly composed of any single hue of Populi Barand Color. The attributes below apply to the photographic style.


General rules

1. Each image must include a certain percentage of Red and Green or any other Populi Brand secondary color.

2. The objects in each image must look fresh and clean.

The Hue Application

In order for a designer to make sure that the image is tonally equal to the hue from Populi Brand Color Swatch, he must take care to apply the swatch of the chosen hue to the image. This way he correctly assess the difference between Populi Color hue and the general hue of the image.

If the Hue from the Populi Brand Color Swatch doesn’t match the general hue of the image, the designer must try to manually change the hue of the image. After the retouching the designer must make sure that image looks natural, fresh and clean.

Populi logotype has a special characteristics that must be taken in consideration for the outdoor signage.

Since logo consists of two complimentary colors, Populi Red and Populi Green, it is not advised to place the logo on color background. Because it creates an unpleasant visual effect.

Hence, each time we use the two color version of Populi logotype, a designer must place it on the white background. Following section demonstrates how to use the Populi logotype correctly.
