STARPACK THE BRIEF

PURE

To design and develop a new, exciting and eye-catching range of at least three tins for either teas or coffees. This new range is to be designed primarily for purchase as a luxury gift pack. When developing your designs consider re-usability of the tins for a secondary use within the home.

PURE

WHAT EXACTLY IS IT? My idea is a luxury tea tin, which is in a set of three. This includes two seperate tins of the Japanese tools, the matcha and the secondary use, which is the tin turning into a tray. HOW DO I ENGAGE WITH IT? Anywhere on the go, solo or social. The idea is to create your own ceremony anywhere, anytime. ANY BENEFITS? Potency level - during periods of the day, you rejuvenate yourself either to awaken you for the day, to rejuvenate throughout the day or to relax in the evenings.

PURE is a natural Japanese tea ceremony set, which is inspired by traditional Japanese tea ceremonies and the values of what the ceremony is about. A Japanese tea ceremony requires specific traditional tools; that creates the ceremony. I have designed a luxury tea tin as a family set of three, which provides the main tin to turn into a tray and the other two to contain the tools and the matcha.

IDEATION PROCESS

PURE Pro's of design aspect: Within a ceremony every tool that is used to make matcha is positioned in specific places. I was inspired by the precision of that eleme nt and so in cooperating a Japanese leaf to be used to place and position each traditional tool, strengthens the experience of interacting in a Japanese tea ceremony. Matcha is a natural grown herb, health benefits, all Japanese tea ceremony create matcha tea, which was created to be shared with friends and family in a calming setting.

Relax.Replenish.Reflect.

WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS? Matcha is a pure grown and healthy type of tea. It can be appropriately consumed anytime, which connects to how our energy and emotions fluctuate during the day. Rejuvenation and the transition of experience plays a big role of the essence of what a Japanese tea ceremony is. I've accumulated that meaning and have linked it to consumer interaction; within the time of the day and on the go.

RSA BLUE.LIGHT.SCREEN.PROTECTOR. 0.2

THE BRIEF: In this individual assignment, you will develop an RSA design project to demonstrate your ability to undestand a design problem.

WHAT I FOCUSED ON: In my interpretation of the brief my aim is to distiguish the conditions of Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome and to be able to identify the triggers which, a delay time of the activity of sleeping.

S

leep Matters - how to improve health and wellbeing by encouraging and/or enabling better sleep.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT: I focused on teenagers sleep, which is delayed by a couple of hours compared to their desired time. This causes teenagers to be sleep deprived during the day and continuing a delayed sleep process. This is Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. Melatonin is the biological hormone that promotes sleep. Blue light is one of the main causes to low levels of melatonin being produced.

MY SOLUTION Is to create a blue light screen protector as research shows that blue light is one of the causes to the decrease of melatonin. By teenagers being awake at night, they will often use electronic devices to help them go to sleep. It would be ineffective if I came up with ideas to diminish the use of electronic devices or to reduce the amount of time used on electronic devices. By thinking of lessening the threat of blue light, would make a difference in melatonin levels; thus helping teenagers to reduce the risk of being sleep deprived during the day and getting more hours at night.

WHAT IS IT:

The screen protector is a red transparent polycarbonate screen protector. The screen protector has UV400 coating and an anti-reflective coating. It's cheap for teenagers or parents of teenagers to buy. It’s lightweight, doesn't damage badly and highly transportable.

IDEATION

Through ideation, I looked into night vision goggles, sunglasses, to phone jail jars to help reduce the time or to produce less of the amount of blue light being exposed to students. From doing primary and secondary research of teenagers attributes to technology, the initial ideas were not effective and that my end solution became the most appropriate for my target audience.

You are witnessing the ideation of shapes for the screen protector.

This represents the chosen shape from the ideation section. DECISION: A size that fits the screens of many dimensions of popular smart phones. Doesn’t conflict the engagement of the smart phone. The scale of the screen portector that covers most of the phone screen than any other design drawing.

WHY THIS DESIGN? From research, teenagers are addicted to technology, especially if they have grown up with it, which would be more difficult to find a process that would cut it out completely or reduce the amount of time. I made a blue light screen protector for phones, because the teenager usage of phones, are often used more than other devices during the day.

This is due to influences such as social media, browsing the internet and communication such as SMS text messages, Whatsapp and Snapchat.

HOW WILL USER ENGAGAE: As the screen protector has clamps to hold the screen to the front of the phone, the user can place the screen protector to any phone at anytime and any place.

The design has been specifically measured to work with different sized phones. Many teenagers have different types of phones.

The bigger the screen they have, the more blue light they are exposed to, meaning lower levels of melatonin are being produced. They use their phones as normal and just clip on the screen protector.

THUMB WAR

0.3 BRIEF THE

Many companies are looking for a new promotional item or gadget that they can use, which has their brand or logo on it. Your design needs to reflect an innovative approach to this.

MY SOLUTION: is to focus on ideas that are based around the theme of health. Since I am interested in science and health, I feel that the outcome of my innovation will be beneficial and useful for a long period of time. Looking into the health sector is very popular, as one of the most top leading promotional products that are categorised in the health sector are products like stress balls or spray soothers.

WAR THUMB

ENGAGEMENT:

SQUEEZE

PULL

HOW DOES IT WORK? Technical Drawing

THUMB WAR has the option to be SQUEEZED just like a stress ball. It has a protective layer of moldable polystyrene. This protects the pipe cleaners, which enables the thumb to be PULLED and FIDDLED with. The slime is filled around the pipe cleaners and has a rubber latex outer material, for a flexible and soft texture.

FIDDLE or SQUEEZE

WHAT IS IT? Thumb war is a stress and fiddler hand, which allows anyone to relieve stress or to fiddle with. The hand has two gestures, which transitions into both having a positive connotation. The hand is filled with polyurethane rubber and in the middle are pipe cleaners, which enables the user to fiddle or adjust the position of the hand movements.

PROS OF DESIGN: The cliche “Thumbs up” is positive because it’s a thumbs up which snaps out to a hand that looks like it’s about to shake another hand. A hand that says “your employed” or the employed hand shake. Can be used for business and corporal events.

THUMB WAR

Positive stress reliever – due to shape and symbol of the hand gesture. Highly interactive as it has a snapback motion from a thumbs up gesture to an employed handshake gesture. This promotes positivity and can be used within the business environment.

WHY I CHOSE THIS? Thumb war is a free merchandise product for the business environment. I wanted to focus on creating a health product that would help aid or treat people.

When people get into the world of work, new environments and new stresses starts to arise. By having a positive reminder in an environment where it can get stressful, here is where the thumb war works best. Thumb war is to remind people to feel positive inside and outside of the business environment. Since the top merchandise products are stress balls and fiddly products, I created a product where I've combined both of these elements. That way thumb war can be squeezed like a stress ball and fiddled with.

WILKO HEALTH BLOX 0.4

BRIEF:

Design an innovative new product for the ‘Blox’ product range to be sold in Wilko Stores across the UK. The concept should be supported by in-depth research into your chosen field. Key points: .The concepts should be gender neutral. • The concepts should be able to be manufactured at a Wilko price point. • The concepts shouldn’t replicate any market leading branded products. • The concepts should not be kit designs unless it has new point of different/innovative features.

MY VERSION OF THE BRIEF: To be able to incorporate STEM in a fun way, by educating a young market on healthy and unhealthy eating. Creating a product that involves health in an interior environment Making sure the game is conducted to a scale where it doesn’t cause disruptions.

WHAT IS IT:

Health blox is a game where the user has to create three meals for every day of the week. Each blox will have an image of either a healthy or unhealthy food and on the sides of the blox will have a sad face or happy face; depending on if it's healthy or not healthy. It is then slotted into the according days of the week and the meal of the day.

WHY ITS MADE: Health blox is a game where it teaches young children about healthy and unhealthy eating in a fun way. From research, there are 4.3 million children overall who are either obese or overweight.

RENDERED DESIGN OF HEALTH BLOX

The NHS have reported that there is a poor level of knowledge on healthy eating or a healthy lifestyle. Since Wilko is a UK and i nternational company, I thought it would be important to broadcast more about healthy eating but in a fun and interactive way.

The child will have to create three healthy meal plans of the day, for the week. For every healthy meal that is correct, they get a star that is located on the side of the tray. If they get 3 stars, they deserve a reward.

PROS OF DESIGN The grid, which is designed by incorporating with the blox theme is a food tray. This reinforces to the children that the game is about food, but also giving them the opportunity to make decisions and learn from their mistakes. By understanding that using pictures to demonstrate if something is good or bad, will respond better than symbols or numbers, which were stemmed from initial ideas. Younger children in different households and environments will be able to understand and identify what is a healthy and unhealthy meal and to be able to share this knowledge to friends or act upon it.
