My passion for music came from my late mother Lady Muriel Kadoorie, and we shared a strong belief that music has no boundaries and should be shared among a wide audience.

For CLP, the promotion of classical music is an integral part of our support to local arts and culture development. I am very pleased to see the Chopin Society’s “Joy of Music Festival 2024” bringing once again wonderful performances and masterclasses to music lovers in Hong Kong.

I would like to thank all participating artists for their exceptional performances. I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to Anabella Levin-Freris and Andrew Freris for organising and presenting the Festival. Over the years it has provided an excellent platform for local young musicians to learn from great masters, and it has encouraged our community to appreciate music even more.

This year’s Festival will certainly be another resounding success for the Chopin Society, and I wish you all a very pleasant musical journey.

The Czech composer Leos Janacek wrote a small body of piano music, which includes only one Sonata. This is a highly dramatic piece of programme music in two short movements, Presentiment and Death. Its title refers to the day 1 October 1905, when a student demonstration in the streets of Brno resulted in a stabbing death of a humble worker Frantisek Pavlik. The first movement is possessed with a quiet restlessness, an ominous premonition leading to an impassioned climax and then ebbing away. The second movement resounds like a requiem, its single main theme is repeated and built up into a second climax before breathing its last, decrying the memory of one, “heart filled with passion, for the university, and was struck by brutal murderers.”

The final trilogy of piano sonatas (D.958 to 960) by Franz Schubert were composed in his last year. Completed in September 1828, he gave a private performance at a friend’s home, dying six weeks later from the ravages of syphilis. These were published posthumously by the publisher Anton Diabelli in 1839, with a dedication to Robert Schumann, who had helped publicise Schubert’s music.

All three sonatas were in four movements, conceived on an epic scale that even surpassed Beethoven’s own final trilogy. The Sonata in C minor (D.958) is the least performed and recorded of the three, which is a mystery in itself. The first movement opens with big emphatic chords, reminiscent of Beethoven’s famous set of Variations in C minor (WoO 80),

their tragic nature is established at the outset. Contrasted by a more lyrical second subject, the development depicts some almighty struggle taking place.

The slow movement in A flat major is hymn-like, reliving a popular Impromptu of the same key. The brief Minuet displays some urgency, contrasted by a rustic Trio, which scarcely prepares one for the Finale’s onslaught. Unusually, its inordinate length exceeds by far those of the preceding three movements, written in a restless tarantella rhythm which does not let up till the final bar. If there were a nickname to befit this sonata’s tenor, that would be “Tragic”.

The Piano Quintet Op.81 by Antonin Dvorak is by far the better known of his two piano quintets. An earlier quintet (Op.5), also in A major, remains relatively obscure. While the earlier work has Wagnerian influences, Dvorak is very much his own man in the later work, unafraid of displaying his Czech nationalism.

Over a rocking piano accompaniment, the cello sings a typically Slavic plaint as the opening movement’s first subject. Faster music follows, with a contrasting and folksy theme on the viola, upon which the sonata form is built. The slow second movement is a dumka, the melancholic Slavic lament, with its episodic shifts in mood. After its wistful opening comes a playful pastoral duet of two violins and a third theme, song-like and imbued with a heart-rending nostalgic quality. The last is worked up to a vigorous climax before closing on a peaceable note.

The final two movements are lively and animated, much in the spirit of Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances. First is the furiant, a fast Bohemian dance (which has nothing to do with fury or being furious!) with a slower central section based on the same theme. The finale further ups the tempo for a jolly country dance, even managing to fashion a fugue based on the dance theme. As the music winds down, the chirpy dance makes one last flourish to close the work on a cheerful note.

The first half of Giuseppe Andaloro’s concert comprises wholly of original piano solos and transcriptions and with opera, jazz and popular music as inspiration.

Giacomo Puccini must be the most popular opera composer in history. La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Turandot… the titles just roll off the tongue, just as his memorable arias get lodged in the consciousness, never to be displaced. Andaloro has chosen two of the most momentous tenor arias for transcription. E lucevan le stelle (And the stars shone) takes place in the final act of Tosca, as the hero Mario Cavaradossi faces imminent execution by firing squad. Little does he know that the execution has not been faked.

Nessun dorma (None shall sleep), Calaf’s aria from Turandot, got its biggest boost at the 1990 World Cup in Rome with the unforgettable performance by Luciano Pavarotti at The Three Tenors’ gig. In Act 3, after he correctly answered the three fatal questions posed by the ice-cold Princess Turandot, Calaf returned a poser of his own. “What is my name?”, for which Turandot is stumped, and he claims victory.

One of the most iconic rock songs ever written was Bohemian Rhapsody by the progressive rock band Queen, released in 1975 on the album A Night at the Opera. Its composer was Freddie Mercury, the stage name of Farrokh Bulsara (1946-1991), born of Parsi parents in the Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar (now in Tanzania). The six-minute long work has been described as a mock opera, incorporating elements from three songs but without conforming to any common pop song genre. Its thematic ideas and melodic sequences have been assimilated by Andaloro and fashioned into a tone poem for piano.

The Austrian pianist Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) comfortably straddled the worlds of classical music and jazz improvisation, and was renowned for his eccentricity. In 1999, he had announced his own death before turning up at a concert claiming a resurrection. He died a year later, this time for real. As a composer, his preferred idiom was

jazz, evident by his Prelude and Fugue in E flat minor from the 1960s. A highly syncopated series of arpeggios gives way to a free-flowing and groovily rhythmic fugue, which breaks off abruptly to allow the performer a cadenza ad libitum to complete the piece. This was later popularised in performances by progressive rock supergroup Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Keith Emerson, pianist of the band, also improvised a prelude and fugue of his own in The Endless Enigma, which Andaloro also performs.

When jazzy strains of piano music are heard in recitals and competitions, there is a high chance these were composed by the Ukraine-born Nikolai Kapustin (1937-2020). He was classically trained, having been a student of Alexander Goldenweiser (who also taught Grigori Ginzburg, Lazar Berman, Tatiana Nikolayeva and many others) at the Moscow Conservatory. There is no improvisation in Kapustin’s meticulously notated scores, which include 20 piano sonatas and innumerable shorter pieces. Among his most popular are the Eight Concert Etudes Op.40 from 1984. The three studies played by Andaloro are a varied lot, demonstrating a lightness of touch and prestidigitation in the Toccatina (No.3), contrasted by harp-like legato lines alternating between right and left hands in Remembrance (No.4). Raillery or Shuitka (No.5) refers to playful banter or teasing, delighting in boogie-woogie and stride ostinatos on the left hand.

Another artist totally comfortable in jazz and classical spheres is the American pianist-composer Keith Jarrett (born 1945), whose solo concerts of improvisations have become so legendary and definitive as to be identified by the city and year of having taken place. His improvisation on The Wind (1953) by American jazzman Russ Freeman (1926-2002) is justly celebrated for its simplicity and eloquence, a neoChopinesque take on the interval of an ascending fifth. King Crimson is another British progressive rock band, formed in 1968 and had numerous revivals up to the present decade. Frame By Frame is a popular number from the early 1980s, written by Andrew Belew, Bill Bruford, Robert Fripp and Tony Levin, and is the title of The Essential King Crimson 4 disc box-set released in 1991.

Johannes Brahms was notoriously finicky about his chamber music, and was known to have discarded much of his early chamber works. What survived the cull has however withstood the test of posterity, with his sole piano quintet as a shining example of what happens when good music gets “recycled”. The work began life as a string quintet (with two cellos), then refashioned as a sonata for two pianos (catalogued as Op.34b, a favourite of piano duos), and finally in 1864 as a piano quintet, one of the greatest of its kind.

Brahms had yet to pen his first symphony, but one finds early aspirations to that cause in the quintet’s form, structure and sound. The works opens quietly with a plain statement of the pensive but unusually absorbing main theme played by piano, violin and cello in unison. This is merely the prelude to the storms and stresses to come, a stark contrast with the serenity of the slow movement which reaches rare heights of nobility.

The scherzo begins quietly but rapidly works itself into a state of agitation and frenzy, incorporating a motif from the first movement as its main rhythmic thrust. A majestic sounding Trio provides some respite before a return to the earlier upheaval. The finale begins on a sombre note (shades of the yet unwritten First Symphony) before lightening up and gaining in tempo. This culminates in music of raw power and energy for a passionate close, fully vindicating the young Brahms’ reputation as Beethoven’s musical heir.

The Chopin Society of Hong Kong is proud to include an extraordinary event in the programme of our Joy of Music Festival 2024, continuing to participate in the “Low Latency Project”, which has allowed us to keep saying “PRESENT” when “calling the roll” during the difficult and challenging times the world has been going through in the recent past. Now that the WORST is over, we are delighted to have seen the BEST which can be extracted from having participated in presentations across the world, thanks to the links created with Institutions second to none which have honoured us by accepting our organization in Hong Kong to be part of the LINK which will be putting Hong Kong once again on line with Vienna and this time also with Prague during our Joy of Music Festival. On Saturday 19th of October, an audience in Vienna (at mdwUniversity of Music and Performing Arts Vienna), an audience in Prague (at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague), and an audience in Hong Kong (at the Hong City Hall Concert Hall) will be attending a recital that will be taking place in these three places. Since Hong Kong has six hours difference with Vienna and Prague, when we start our musical evening presentation in Hong Kong, which will be on that evening at 7:30pm HK time, the audiences in Vienna and Prague will be gathering at the venue in each city, at 1:30pm.

First part: (THIS PART WILL BE CONDUCTED IN ENGLISH)

During the first part of this programme, there will be a conversation between:

Johannes Meissl, Univ.-Prof. Dr. h.c., Vice rector for International Affairs and Art, mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna AND

Dr. Andrew Freris, Chairman, The Chopin Society of Hong Kong

The topic of the conversation will cover, among others, classical music education in the post-Covid world, the role of life streaming and the importance in music education of the variety of other music genres such as pop, jazz, folk, etc.

Second part: Three musicians in Prague and three in Vienna, will be performing movements from Haydn, Brahms and Martinu Sonatas for string sextet, followed by a clarinet duo. The performance will be streamed live to HK where the audience will be able to listen and see it in the big screen at the Concert Hall !!!

Third part:  This part to be played live in HK and streamed to be seen and listened to by live audiences both in Prague and in Vienna.

A programme of a performance by The Logos Chamber Group followed by the guest appearance of a sextet of bowed Chinese string instruments from the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.

These unique, synchronized, simultaneous live-performances linking three remote locations, Prague, Vienna and HK will combine art & technology into a ground-breaking, unmissable experience, using the unique CESNET’s MVTP technology for low latency network transmissions.

The device, named MVTP technology (Modular Video Transmission Platform) enables direct remote collaboration in critically sensitive areas in terms of communication latency, such as live culture.

This is the message Dr. Sven Ubik, head of CESNET Networking Application Technologies Department and whose team created the prized solution, has sent us:

“The interaction of musicians between music academies in Vienna and Prague is made possible by the ultra-low-latency MVTP audiovisual transmission technology developed by CESNET. The total delay between musicians is approximately 6 milliseconds, including all processing in the transmitter, receiver and the network propagation delay.

This corresponds to approximately two meters of acoustic propagation. The musicians can play as if they were together on the same stage.

About MVTP low-latency technology for collaboration in performing arts:

CESNET has been developing ultra-low latency transmission technologies since 2010. The aim was to bring new opportunities for collaboration, education, performance and promotion of music. Musicians and other performers in different cities and countries can conveniently play and collaborate together as if they were standing in one place on one stage, without affecting the musicality of their performances. The video transmission quality allows for live television production in high definition. The result of the development is the MVTP (Modular Video Transmission Device) technology, which enables video transmissions up to 8K resolution with an added latency of less than 3 ms.

It should be noted that we did not want to replace live performances with streaming. We wanted to bring new possibilities for remote collaboration. The technology we have created brings entirely new possibilities, such as playing multiple organs together, distance learning, distance auditions between music academies, using historical instruments to play together with other musicians, and other innovative activities.

The technology has been awarded the Europa Nostra / Creative Europe award in 2020 for contribution to collaboration in classical music in a European scale. It has been also awarded the Czech Head Award in the industry category in 2022 for the most innovation product developed in Czech Republic.”

Needless to say, this evening of music delivered in such innovative ways, would not have been able to be conceived and planned to be executed, had it not been for the collaboration and sponsorship of:

香港蕭邦社將於 2024 年美樂聚音樂節的節目中,增添一 項非凡活動,繼續帶來「低延遲」演出,「低延遲」技術讓 我們在傳輸影像時,減少延遲時間,讓我們於全球面臨困 難和疫情挑戰時,線上「點名」時仍能隔空實時「報到」。

隨著最艱難的時期已經過去,我們很高興,看到透過轉播 來自世界各地演出所獲得的最佳成果,這得益於我們和無 與倫比的機構建立連結,他們接納我們這個香港的組織, 讓我們成為連結的一部分。這次,我們將再次把香港與維 也納和布拉格連接起來,於美樂聚音樂節期間共同演出。

在 10 月 19 日(星期六),維也納(mdw - 維也納音樂與 表演藝術大學)、布拉格(布拉格表演藝術學院音樂系)和 香港(香港大會堂音樂廳)的觀眾,將共同參加這場跨越三 個地區的音樂會。由於香港與維也納和布拉格有六小時的 時差,當我們在香港的音樂之夜於晚上七時半開始時,維 也納和布拉格的觀眾將於下午一時半,在各自的場地聚首。

第一部分 : 在音樂會的首 25 分鐘,來自香港、維也納和布 拉格這三個參與城市的代表將進行對話。

第二部分 : 三名音樂家在布拉格,另外三名在維也納,他們 將共同演奏海頓、布拉姆斯和馬天奈的弦樂六重奏奏鳴曲, 接下來還會有單簧管二重奏。演出將在香港進行直播。

Joseph Haydn is widely credited as the “father of the string quartet” but he wrote much more music than that, essentially being a pioneer of the classical form, chamber music and symphony as we know it. He was a salaried musician in service of the court of Esterhazy, where much of his creativity was honed. He famously proclaimed, “I was cut off from the world. There was no one to confuse or torment me, and I was forced to become original”.

His Divertimento in E flat major (Hob.II:39) was unusually scored for two pairs of two violins and cello, placed in separate chambers. This string sextet carries the nickname Echo (Das Echo) simply because the offstage trio repeats what is played by the trio on stage. This effect must have been amusing to its earliest audiences as its recurs in all of its five movements which comprise Presto and Minuet movements sandwiching a central Adagio. Today’s performance is a bit special as the two trios are separated by some 250 kilometers, playing in Vienna and Prague, but connected by modern technology. The innovative spirit in Haydn would have been delighted.

Haydn’s first string quartets (catalogued by the publisher Pleyel as Op.1) came before the traditional four-movement form he pioneered became firmly established. The first three quartets, dating from 1757-59, were divertimentos with five movements each, carrying the title of Divertimento-Quartets. The very first movement of Haydn’s very first quartet, is a Presto based on the ascending notes of the B flat major triad, its jaunty quality lending it the nickname of “The Hunt”.

The string sextet, formed by pairs of violins, violas and cellos, was a creation of Luigi Boccherini but it is the two sextets by Johannes Brahms which are most performed these

days. Brahms’ First Sextet (Op.18) was composed in 1860 and premiered by an ensemble led by the great violinist Joseph Joachim. The richness and warmth conferred by the additional instruments (a viola and cello) to a traditional string quartet is evident from the opening page. The feeling of nobility in the first movement’s opening theme, despite Brahms’ relative youth, would be a continuing thread from his First Piano Trio (Op.8) all the way to his First Symphony (Op.68).

Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu’s String Sextet was composed in 1932, and was awarded the Elizabeth SpragueCoolidge prize of a thousand American dollars, fending off competition from 144 other entries. He did not initially receive the money, thinking it was a joke played on him by his friends, but later used the money to buy himself a piano. He composed the three-movement work within the space of a week. The first movement opens slowly (Lento) in C minor, highly chromatic in harmony, but soon gives way to a faster (Allegro poco moderato), kinetic and syncopated style more typical of his music, before closing more optimistically in C major.

Russian pianist Ilya Rashkovskiy opens this concert with Frédéric Chopin’s wonderful set of 24 Preludes, which like the precedent set by Johann Sebastian Bach in two books of The Well-Tempered Clavier, covers all twenty-four major and minor keys. These were composed between 1835 and 1839, including a well-documented sojourn in Mallorca where Chopin had escaped the winter with his mistress George Sand and her children.

These short pieces were unusual in their own right, selfcontained entities which do not precede larger forms like fugues, suites or operas. Beginning with C major, these alternate between major and minor modes in a circle of fifths, before closing in D minor. The shortest in duration plays for under half a minute (No.7 in A major) while the shortest in composition comprises just 12 bars (No.9 in E major). No number is longer than 90 bars (No.18 in A flat major), while the longest can take about six minutes (No.15 in D flat major), the famous “Raindrop” Prelude. Chopin never performed more than four preludes as a group in his salon recitals, but it is now customary to hear all 24 in a single sitting at piano recitals and competitions today. In this journey through all keys, Chopin traverses a kaleidoscopic range of styles, moods and nuances. The opening prelude is a chorale built on the C major triad, the second (A minor) a dirge-like procession unusual for its dissonance, the cheery third (G major) delights in a swift-flowing left hand figurations, while the fourth (E minor) is a simple yet celebrated representation of grief based on a falling interval of just two notes. The great conductor-pianist Hans von Bülow, who provided titles to each number, so eloquently called it “Suffocation”.

The familiar A major (No.7) is the shortest Mazurka Chopin ever wrote, while the big tragic chords of the C minor (No.20) recall a funeral march. Perhaps the most astonishing sequence of preludes takes place between No.13 (F sharp major) and No.17 (A flat major), which encompasses pure lyricism, angst and agitation (No.14 in E flat minor), contemplation (No.15 in D flat major, the “Raindrop” and jewel in the crown), brief relentless violence (the etude-like No.16 in B flat minor) and contentment, a veritable roller-coaster ride of emotions. Leaving the most dramatic for the last, No.24 (D minor) is another etude-like number which closes with three fateful low Ds, resounding like metaphorical nails in a coffin.

French composer Gabriel Fauré wrote ten major chamber works and shorter instrumental pieces, all of exquisite quality. He helped define the French Belle Epoque aesthete, which prized beauty and lyricism over the more Germanic values of contrapuntal rigour. Fauré’s Élégie in C minor is his most popular and memorable cello work, composed in 1880 originally as a slow movement of a projected cello sonata. That sonata never came to fruition, and the elegiac piece was published as a standalone work three years later. Described as “one of last manifestations of French musical Romanticism”, it is one of pathos and restraint, contrasted with a tempestuous and passionate central section, before closing with subdued tones and reverential calm.

By the time Fauré’s First Piano Quintet in D minor was completed in 1906, the composer had adopted a more austere and seemingly elusive idiom in his compositions. After a prolonged gestation of almost twenty years, it was premiered by the composer at the piano with the dedicatee Belgian violinist Eugene Ysaÿe’s string quartet. The work is in three movements, with the customary Scherzo omitted.

The first movement opens with a melancholic unison string melody heard over harp-like arpeggios on the piano. This is contrasted with a recurrent string motif and a more rustic melody played by the second violin and later the cello. All three interact in this sonata-form, which rises to an impassioned climax before calmly receding. The slow movement in G major establishes a gentle cantabile on the first violin which gradually builds up in intensity, but the overall mood never goes beyond that of uneasy repose. A spirit of levity possesses the Finale, where the piano begins a canon-like procession in D major. The strings open with pizzicatos and enter the fray in a myriad of ways as if in a series of variations. The restlessness gradually builds up in intensity before closing on an optimistic high.

Honggi Kim’s solo recital comprises wholly piano studies with the unique imprimatur of Franz Liszt. Far from being technical exercises of a didactic or instructional kind, Liszt’s etudes, much like Chopin’s, marry finger virtuosity with poetic sensibilities, and are crafted as miniature tone poems. His Three Concert Studies (S.144) also carry the title Trois Caprices Poetiques, providing a clue to their inspirations.

Each is very different in character. Il Lamento is the longest, with a seamless bel canto line ornamented by cadenzas in the manner of Liszt’s fantasies on operatic themes. La Leggierezza is the study of silky smoothness and feathery lightness par excellence, a favourite of Martha Argerich’s. Un Sospiro (A Sigh) is one of Liszt’s most famous melodies, in the classic lyrical key of D flat major. One is also reminded of Liszt’s Third Consolation, Chopin’s Berceuse, Fantaisie-Impromptu and Nocturne (Op.27 No.2), which all make for perfect encores.

Sergei Lyapunov (1859-1924) was a Russian nationalist composer who studied with Mily Balakirev (of the “Mighty Handful”) and Liszt’s student Karl Klindworth, whose fame lies almost wholly in his twelve Transcendental Études for piano. The title is deliberate as he sought to complete the work of Liszt’s own Transcendental Études (S.139, published in 1852) by writing studies in the major and minor keys not covered in the original set. Composed between 1897 and 1905, the twelve pieces replicate the challenge of Liszt’s technical mastery but coloured with clear Russian accents. There are quotes of Russian folksongs, reminiscent of Rimsky-Korsakov and Borodin, and some have direct references to Liszt’s originals.

Alternating between major and minor keys, Lyapunov varies the mood and temp of each study, all of which have distinctive titles. There are four slow pieces, with Berceuse in F sharp major (No.1) opening the set, a gentle cradle song in F sharp major. Nuit d’été (Summer Night, No.5) in E major, with its lyrical line sometimes carried over three staves, bears more than a passing resemblance to Liszt’s Ricordanza. Idylle (No.7) in A major is perhaps the least technically demanding number, much in the same way as Liszt’s Paysage. Harpes éoliennes (Aeolian Harps, No.9) in D major delights in long stretches of hemidemisemiquavers (1/64 notes), with murmuring and shimmering textures mimicking billowing passages of wind.

The fast and furious etudes are more than a match for Liszt’s, beginning with Ronde des Fantômes (Phantoms’ Dance, No.2) in D sharp minor in a very swift 6/8 tarantella rhythm. Extreme fleetness is key here. Terek (No.4) in G sharp minor depicts the raging torrents of the Terek River as it empties into the Caspian Sea, but has time for a folk melody as if heard on flute and piccolo. Tempête (Tempest, No.6) in C sharp minor closes the first half-dozen amid a storm. A folk-derived melody also heard in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Antar (Symphony No.2) may be discerned through the storm.

Lesghinka (No.10) in B minor is the best known, and most often performed of the dozen. Based on the ethnic dance of the Lesghin people of the North Caucasus (including the lands of Azerbaijan and Dagestan), this coruscating showpiece owes a debt of influence to Balakirev’s famous Oriental fantasy Islamey, which Lyapunov also orchestrated. The penultimate study, Ronde des Sylphes (Dance of the Sylphes, No.11) in G major is Lyapunov’s answer to Liszt’s Feux follets, the ultimate exercise of feathery lightness and mercurial swiftness.

Then there are the epic studies. The tolling of many bells in Carillon (No.3) in B major, a tribute to the Russian Orthodox Church, hails from a hallowed Mussorgskyan tradition. This glorious piece sits well alongside similar contemporaneous examples by Rachmaninov and Medtner. Chant épique (Epic Song, No.8) in F sharp minor is perhaps the most Russian piece of the set, with the quote of Russian song Out Of The Woods, Dark Woods and piano arpeggios and staccato passages simulating the plucked strings of a harp or psaltery. The final study in E minor is titled Elegy in Memory of Franz Liszt (No.12), a tribute in the heroic funereal mode of his First Hungarian Rhapsody, bringing this monumental set to a momentous close.

This concert by Giuseppe Andaloro and members of the Logos Chamber Group opens with what is possibly the most performed of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 36 or so violin sonatas. The designation of sonata for piano and violin underlined the dominant role assumed by the piano, but as Mozart matured, the violin soon gained parity. The E minor sonata, the only one in a minor key, was composed in 1778 in Paris where Mozart was touring, accompanied by his mother. This fateful trip saw her die from an unknown illness, the grief of which was channeled into his music.

The pathos is immediately apparent in the opening bars, a melancholy coloured with some degree of urgency which never lapses into melodrama or bathos. The second movement is in the form of short variations, with its bittersweet minuet subject treated with loving reverence. An excursion into E major provides brief moments of sunshine, but this soon returns to the earlier unease to close.

Nicola Matteis Jr. (1670-1737) was born in London, the son of a Neapolitan violin virtuoso of the same name who had emigrated to England as a young man and revolutionised violin playing there. The younger Matteis later moved to Vienna where he served at the Habsburg court as a composer of operas and ballets. Almost totally forgotten today, his fame lies in two fantasias for solo violin composed in 1720. The A minor Fantasia, also known as Alla Fantasia, is a virtuoso arpeggio study centred on the A minor triad, a technique later perfected by composers from Paganini to Arvo Pärt.

Antonin Dvorak’s 14 string quartets occupy an important part in Romantic era chamber music, often overshadowing his other string music, all of which conceived with care and craftsmanship. His Terzetto in C major, a charming fourmovement string trio, is such a work. Its Italian title refers to a work for three voices, in this case two violins and a viola. It was composed in 1887 for a chemistry student, an amateur violinist boarding in Dvorak’s household who found it beyond his technical capabilities.

The very congenial first movement is titled an Introduction, specifically to the second movement’s Larghetto, which continues in this very affable Hausmusik thread. The ensuing Scherzo in A minor, with its Trio in A major, is a genuine Slavonic dance - the furiant. The theme of the finale’s set of variations, in dotted rhythm, is not immediately apparent. The relative brevity and tightness of the ten variations that follow suggests this to be a well-disguised passacaglia. There is even a soloistic recitative for first violin – which the original dedicatee had probably found too forbidding - before the work closes in a short-winded blaze of fireworks.

If audiences and musicians were polled as to which violin sonata was the most popular ever, chances are César Franck’s Sonata in A major would top the list. Trumping the likes of Beethoven, Brahms and Mozart, it carried the designation “sonate pour piano et violon”, indicating the piano’s primacy. It was composed in 1886 for fellow Belgian the great violinist Eugene Ysaÿe as a wedding present. At its public premiere in a Brussels art museum, the musicians were obliged to perform in virtual darkness (due to a prohibition of artificial lighting) and did so completely from memory.

Its four movements are distinguished by sublime melodies and the unity of recurring motifs. The opening movement’s serene theme is heard again in the second and third movements, returning first passionately and later like some long-lost friend. The turbulent second movement is technically far more challenging for piano than violin, its outward brilliance tempered with moments of reflection.

The Recitativo-Fantasia third movement is pivotal, being a meditation on motifs that appear in all four movements, the perfect embodiment of cyclical form. Two motifs, described as dolce and drammatico, would later figure prominently in the finale. The finale is a rondo in the form of a canon, with the violin following in imitation exactly one bar after the piano. Being out of phase yet sounding totally in harmony is the chief pleasure of this movement, capping a work of great stature and beauty. This music exists in versions for solo piano (by Alfred Cortot), flute, viola and cello, just to name a few instruments.

些受邀的結他手在 2024 年 5 月齊聚香港,通過 ZOOM 接受阿爾瓦羅的結他課程。

這群年輕的結他手連同其他幾位結他手,現在有機會與 阿爾瓦羅合作。阿爾瓦羅將於 10 月親自來香港,參加 2024 年的美樂聚音樂節。

The Chopin Society of Hong Kong is proud to have been presenting the world-known guitarist Alvaro Pierri in solo, chamber music and concerto performances for the past almost 20 years.

A fantastic repertoire of music for guitar has been performed along the years, displaying the incredible potential of this instrument either when played by itself or playing together with other instruments. Apart from having been offering the public in Hong Kong such a treat in getting to know the guitar and its repertoire, Alvaro Pierri has been teaching budding guitarists of Hong Kong and China, the art of playing the guitar as well as introducing them to the essence of music and the way it has evolved through times and places, cultures and traditions, looking at it from the point of view of the guitar.

Making use of an impeccable technique always at the service of an interpretative potential at the guitar which positions Alvaro among the best guitarists in the world nowadays, he has never failed to enchant his followers who are spread all over the world.

Each year, Alvaro’s presence at the Joy of Music Festival has become an attraction for the music lovers of Hong Kong and China and his teaching through masterclasses and lecture/demonstrations, a magnet for those learning how to play this instrument.

This year is not going to be an exception, and Alvaro will be featured in our Joy of Music Festival to be presented between the 16th and the 22nd October 2024.

To extract the most of the privilege of benefiting from his teaching, our Society has decided to create an intermediate stage this year by having Alvaro Pierri working with a

selected group of guitarists from Hong Kong and China, who gathered in Hong Kong and received classes from Alvaro who taught them via ZOOM during the month of May 2024.

This group of young guitarists plus a few additional ones, are now having the chance of working with Alvaro when he will be physically in Hong Kong in October, taking part of the Joy of Music Festival 2024.

Hong Kong based guitarist: Chris Wong, has been working with Alvaro Pierri putting together this group of young guitarists working with Alvaro this year.

The programme to be presented during the masterclasses is detailed below as is the list of names of the participating students.

The classes and lectures will be in English but there will be a simultaneous translation into Chinese.

Charlotte Scott (Violin)

As a highly sought after violinist and collaborator, Charlotte enjoys a varied career as a soloist, chamber musician and director. Discographies that received high critical acclaim include recordings for Linn Records, Champs Hill and Apple Music.

Co-founder and first violinist of the Oculi Ensemble, Charlotte previously held the latter position in the Piatti- and Badke Quartets. As a passionate director and concertmaster, she frequently plays with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Musica Vitae, Nederlands Chamber Orchestra and various others worldwide.

Regular performances both as a soloist and chamber musician include venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw and Festival Hall, as well as an array of international summer Chamber music festivals.

Emma Parker (Violin)

Emma graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2006. She has dedicated much of her career to chamber music. From 2002 to 2015 she was second violin in the Badke Quartet, winners of First Prize and Audience Prize in the Fifth Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. Subsequently, as a member of the Albion Quartet from 2016 to 2023, Emma performed regularly at many of Europe’s most prestigious chamber-music halls, including the Wigmore Hall (London), Snape Maltings (Aldeburgh Festival), the Konzertgebeouw (Amsterdam), the Louvre (Paris) and Esterhazy (Hungary). With the Albion she also made a number of discs for Signum Records, their latest CD being voted Critic’s Choice of the Year and Editor’s Choice in Gramophone Magazine. No stranger to the airwaves, Emma has regularly performed on BBC Radio 3. Alongside her quartet work, she is a founder member of the Oculi Ensemble. Outside chamber music, Emma served in 20142019 as Principal Second Violin of the Manchester Camerata.

Joel Hunter (Viola)

Born in the UK and a proud Yorkshireman, Joel was drawn to the viola as a 7 year old and decided many years later after being offered a scholarship, to continue his studies at Chethams School of Music in Manchester and subsequently at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Since then Joel has been performing all over the world with many leading orchestras and ensembles.

Immediately after finishing his studies in London he was appointed co-principal viola with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Glasgow, moving on to the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm a few years later where as principal viola he worked until 2014. He is currently the principal violist of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra which he combines with a busy freelance career.

He has appeared as a guest principal violist in most UK orchestras, including all of the BBC orchestras, the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, Aurora, Royal Northern Sinfonia and internationally with the Symphonie Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, Bamberg Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta.

As a chamber musician Joel has collaborated with many eminent artists, including Christian Tetzlaff, Alisa Weilerstein, Pascal Roge, Mitzuko Uchida and Leif Ove Andsnes in concerts throughout the world. Recent recordings include the Korngold String Sextet for Chandos and the Mozart Piano Quartets with Leif Ove Andsnes for Sony Classical. He is a founding member of the Logos Chamber Group playing annually at the Joy Of Music Festival and International Piano Competition in Hong Kong.

In 2001 he was made an ‘Associate member’ of the Royal Academy of Music in London (ARAM) for his services to the profession. Joel is now based in Berlin where he lives with his family.

Pierre Doumenge (cello)

Pierre Doumenge is the principal cellist of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the Bergen String Quartet. He is also guest principal cello with many orchestras including Oslo Philharmonic, Netherlands Philharmonic, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Pierre was the cellist of the Dante Quartet and has appeared at many international festivals (Aldeburgh, Kuhmo, Bucharest, Vienna, Osor, Nuremberg, Hindsgalv, IMS Prussia Cove, Stellenbosch, Singapore, Hong Kong, New York, Washington DC, Vancouver, Boston, Bariloche). He has recorded for the Dutton, Meridian, Hyperion and Chandos labels to great critical acclaim. His regular chamber music partners include Pascal Rogé, Daniel Hope, Pekka Kuusisto, Lawrence Power, the Belcea, Allegri, Sacconi, Piatti, London Haydn quartets, Aronowitz Ensemble and the Nash Ensemble. In 2008 he was chosen to be the official cellist of the Menuhin International Violin Competition, performing the Ravel Duo Sonata with the nine semi-finalists.

He gives annual masterclasses at the International Cello Courses UK, Oxford Cello School, Violoncello Society of London, Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, West Helsinki Music Institute, Conservatoire Royal de Mons and the Szymon Goldberg Seminars in Toyama, Japan. He has given public classes at the Juilliard School in New-York and the music universities of Bloomington, Eugene, Sacramento, Vancouver, Stellenbosh, Singapore, Hong Kong and Vienna.

German pianist Jonas Stark, winner of the Hong Kong International Piano Competition 2022, has performed extensively through all major German cities, France, the Netherlands, the UK, Ireland, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Hong Kong and Australia. As a soloist in piano concertos he appeared with the Heidelberger Philharmoniker, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Duisburger Philharmoniker, Norddeutsche Philharmonie, Münchener Kammerorchester and Haydn Philharmonie under the baton of Marin Alsop, Marcus Bosch, Martin Fratz, Dietger Holm and Kahchun Wong.

Further achievements include the 1st prize at ‘Concours Musical de France’ in Paris in 2009, the 1st federal prize and two special prizes at ‘Jugend musiziert’ in 2014, the 1st prize at the Walter Gieseking competition 2017, the 3rd prize at the International Schubert Competition Dortmund in 2021 and a special prize at the ARD International Music Competition Munich in 2022.

Moreover, Jonas twice received the special award of his state for outstanding solo performance and became Young Steinway Artist in 2021.

Alongside his studies, Jonas has attended masterclasses by Leslie Howard, Peter Frankl, Dimitri Bashkirov, Robert McDonald, John Perry, Christopher Elton, Pascal Devoyon, Dimitri Alexeev, Steven Osborne, Imogen Cooper, Martin Helmchen, Arie Vardi, Janina Fialkowska, Anna Malikova, Bernd Goetzke, Grigory Gruzman and Midori.

Jonas Stark started piano lessons with Jelena Semenenko when he was five years old. After his Bachelor of Music at the HfM Saar, Germany with Professor Thomas Duis in 2018 he studied Master and Professional Diploma with Professor Ian Fountain at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Since 2021 Jonas is studying Soloklasse with Professor Roland Krüger at the HMTM Hanover where he is also holding a teaching position for piano since 2023.

Jonas is scholar of the Jürgen Ponto foundation, the German National Academic Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, the Hans-and-Ruth-Giessen-Foundation and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.

Canadian FELIX award for the best classical CD of the year. Recently „Pioneer Classics Japan“ brought out a DVD featuring Spanish and South American guitar music, and “Deutsche Grammophon“ re-issued a DVD, Alvaro Pierri performing in duo with Astor Piazzolla.

Alvaro Pierri is also an internationally acclaimed teacher. Many of his students have won major international guitar competitions, and have themselves outstanding performing and recording careers. He was professor in Brazil at the University of Santa Maria, later then in Canada at McGill University (Faculty of Music) and at the UQAM (Department of Music) in Montreal. In 2002 he was appointed professor at the famous Academy of music in Vienna (today University of Music and Performing Arts), Austria.

Pierri gives master classes at major music festivals such as New York Manhattan Masters, GFA Guitar Foundation of America, Québec FIG, Orford Festival, Domain Forget (Canada), SIG Séminaire International de Guitare in Paris and Bordeaux, Barcelona, Sevilla and Elche in Spain, Rome, Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, Wiener Meisterkurse, LiGiTa Liechtenstein Guitar Week, Amsterdam, Kopenhagen, Helsinki, Uppsala, Villa Musica Mainz, Berlin, Koblenz, Iserlohn, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, Mumbai, New Delhi, Tokyo, Sapporo, Osaka, Seoul, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, a.o.

Alvaro Pierri was born in Montevideo in Uruguay, in a family of musicians. He received his early musical education from his mother, the pianist Ada Estades, and his aunt, the uruguayan guitarist Olga Pierri. Later he studied with the legendary Maestro Abel Carlevaro, the composer Guido Santorsola and also at the Uruguayan National Institute of Musicology. From the age of 11 he was already performing in concerts and winning prizes in international guitar competitions, including 1st Prize in the International Guitar Competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1st Prize in the International Guitar Competition in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and the Gold Medal at the 18th International Competition in Paris.

In recognition of his outstanding artistic talent and career and his permanent enriching contribution to music and culture, 2008 Alvaro Pierri was appointed as honorary citizen of his home town Montevideo.

Ilya Rashkovskiy (piano)

Born in Irkutsk, Russia in 1984, Ilya Rashkovskiy debuted at age 8 with the Irkutsk Chamber Music Orchestra. He won the 2nd place at the Long – J. Thibaud Competition (2001), 1st place at the Hong Kong International Competition (2005), 4th at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, 3rd place at the Artur Rubinstein Piano Masters in Tel Aviv (2011) and the 1st place at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition. He studied in Novosibirsk, Hannover and Paris; his main piano teacher was Vladimir Krainev.

He collaborated as a soloist with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Mariinsky Orchestra, the Orchestre national de Lille, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Russian State Symphony, the Romanian National Orchestra amongst many others. Ilya performed in several prestigious concert venues throughout the world, such as the Théatre du Châtelet, the Salle Playel, the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Taipei National Concert Hall.

He is also active as a chamber musician, having collaborated with musicians such as Akiko Suwanai, Sayaka Shoji, Gary Hoffman, Daniel Lozakovich, Bomsori, Borodin and Shanghai String Quartets. He recorded several CDs including Chopin Complete Etudes as well as Scriabin Complete Piano Sonatas. In November 2024 he is invited to serve as a Jury member of 12th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition.

Since 2017 he is also a guest professor at Sungshin Woman’s University in Seoul.

Honggi Kim (piano)

South Korean Pianist Honggi Kim won the first prize at the Isangyun International Music Competition in 2013 and the Special Prize for Young Talents, the first prize and two special prizes (Best Performance in Chamber Music and Best Performance in Spanish Music) at the 60th International Piano Competition of Jaén, Spain in 2018, and also another first prize at the 5th Hong Kong International Piano Competition in 2019.

He has also been recognized for his outstanding musicianship by winning numerous international prizes, including the 3rd prize at the China International Piano Competition in 2013, the 3rd prize at the 69th Geneva International Music Competition in 2014, a special prize at the Schubert International Music Competition in Germany in 2016, and a special prize for the best performance of Schumann at the Geza and Competition in Switzerland in 2018.

He has performed numerous concerts as a soloist in recitals, chamber music, and with orchestras in Europe, including Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Spain, and Switzerland; Asia, including China, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong; and South America, including Brazil. He has also completed a tour of China as a winner of the China International Piano Competition, a tour of Asia as a winner of the Geneva International Music Competition, and a tour of Spain’s Andalusia region as a winner of the Jaen Competition. In Korea, he performed with the KBS Symphony Orchestra the National Symphony Orchestra at the Seoul Arts Center, the Dito Orchestra at the 250th anniversary concert of Beethoven’s birth at the Incheon Arts Center, and the Wonju, Changwon, Mokpo, and Gunsan symphony orchestras.

He has performed on the solo stage in Europe at the 54th Cervo music festival and 26th Amfiteatrof music festival in Levanto in italy, Joy of music festival in Eisenstadt in Austria, pianistenfestival Böblingen, earthquake-Konzertreihe in Friedrichshafen, pianoforte-fest Maissen in Germany. He has also performed on the solo stage in South Korea at the Kumho Art Hall Beautiful Thursday Series, the Seoul Arts Center Summer Music Festival, and the Pyeongchang Music Festival.

Recently, in 2021, he was selected by Korean pianist Kunwoo Paik and played together at the historic Champs-Elysees Theater in Paris, France, and in 2023, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff’s birth, he performed all of Rachmaninoff’s ‘24 Preludes for Piano on one stage. In 2024 for the 100th anniversary of the Russian composer ‘Sergei Lyapunov’s death, he is presenting the program including his ‘12 transcendental Etudes op.11’ which is dedicated to Franz Liszt.

While attending Yewon School, Honggi studied composition for three years at the Preparatory School Program of the Korea National University of Arts (now the Korea National Institute for Gifted in Arts) and later graduated from Seoul Arts High School and Korea National University of Arts. He then moved to Germany to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and the Musikhochschule Münster.

Volker Werner studied “Tonmeister” at University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, at University of Miami, Florida and Banff Centre in Canada. In 2007 he founded his company PDV Records, specializing in sound design for concerts and shows, audio and video production as well as film music. As sound designer he worked on projects like the opening of the Vienna Festival, Disney in Concert or Opera in the Quarry. He produced musical TV events such as the national Whitsunday concert from Stift Melk or the Easter Concert from St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.

Volker Werner has worked with renowned classical music artists such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Diana Damrau, Edita Gruberová and Michael Schade as well as world famous orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphonic or the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Volker Werner is teaching at University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and has been involved in the development of various immersive audio formats. He is the CTO of Amadeus Acoustics, an active acoustics system debuting with the London Symphony Orchestra and inaugurating the Andermatt Concert Hall with the Berlin Philharmonic. He is also responsible for the 3D sound installation at the James Bond Museum ”007 Elements” or the Mythos Mozart experience in Vienna.

Jiri Melnikov (Streaming Engineer)

Jiri Melnikov is the manager of SAGElab, a joint workplace of the CESNET association and the Faculty of Information Technology of the Czech Technical University in Prague focused on network technologies, multimedia and virtual reality. For many years he has been working on highresolution and low-latency transmission research. He is the lead software developer of the MVTP platform used for realtime delay-critical applications.

Dr. Sven Ubik is a senior researcher in CESNET. He is the head of the research group Technologies for network applications. He has been a researcher and a coordinator in several national and international projects. He is a co-author of several patents and he is a Cisco CCIE#14053 professional. He is a PhD advisor at the Czech Technical University. He has built a Network Visualization Lab as a joint research facility of CESNET and the Czech Technical University. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a member of ACM and SMPTE. He has been a reviewer of multiple international conferences and of research project proposals. His research group has developed the MVTP (Modular Video Transmission Platform) technology based on FPGA for ultra-low-latency audiovisual transmissions for distance collaboration. In 2020 he received the Europa Nostra / Creative Europe Award for the contribution to collaboration in classical music in an European scale. In 2022 he received the Czech Head Award in the industry category for the most innovative product (MVTP) developed in Czech Republic. He acquired his MSc. and Dr. degrees at the Department of Computer Science at the Czech Technical University. He has over 30 years of experience in computing systems and electronics. He was a visiting researcher at the Internet Real-Time Laboratory of the Columbia University in New York (1999-2000). After joining CESNET, he has been leading a research group that has developed multiple hardware (FPGA-based) and software systems for high-speed passive network monitoring, ultra-high-definition video transmissions, ultra-low-latency transmissions for realtime collaboration, 3D model navigation, electro-photonic devices, medical transmissions and cyber-performances across continents.

Chang Tou Liang 張道亮

The Writer of the Programme Notes

Singapore native Chang Tou Liang is a family physician in private practice. He also aspires to classical music-related endeavours, including being a music reviewer for The Straits Times (over 2600 publications to date), former Artistic Director of the Singapore International Piano Festival (20042008), amateur pianist, amateur singer (10 years as a tenor in the Singapore Symphony Chorus), co-founder of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra Piano Marathon, co-host in the Symphony 92.4 FM syndicated musical talk-show Bluff Your Way Through Classical Music, annotator of the Hong Kong International Piano Competition and The Joy of Music Festival (Hong Kong), and seat-warmer in innumerable committees of numerous Singapore arts organisations.

In 2011, he was conferred a Special Recognition Award by the Singapore government’s Ministry of Communication, Information and the Arts for contributions to music and the arts. In 2016, he was the unanimous winner of the 4th Husum Piano Quiz, an honour previously held by Marc-André Hamelin. He also made a cameo appearance in the Jan Ö. Meier directed documovie PianoCrazy, released on DVD (Danacord label) in 2017. His work as a music reviewer has been documented in the Cambridge History of Music Criticism (2019 Edition). In 2020, he was invited to judge at the Thailand Steinway Youth Piano Competition, and later served as its special consultant. His blog Pianomania (pianofortephilia.blogspot.sg) has an international following with over 2 million reads. He is married to Janet, and they have a son Shan Ming, and maintain a household of 7 rescued cats.

Johannes Meissl

Johannes Meissl, born in Ried/Austria, studied at mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Gerhart Hetzel, and Hatto Beyerle. He graduated with distinction and a special award from the ministry. 1982 he joined the Artis Quartet. After further studies with the LaSalle Quartet in the US and several competition prizes the ensemble established a long-lasting international career. Concerts at prestigious series and festivals worldwide, awards for over 40 recordings (Grand Prix du Disque, Diapason d’Or, Echo, Midem Classics, etc.) and the still running “Artis Series” at the Musikverein in Vienna (since 1988) bear witness to the international standing of the ensemble.

Meissl also performs in solo recitals and in open chamber projects, and he has achieved success as a conductor.

Professor for chamber music at mdw, Johannes Meissl has been serving as the Vice Rector of this top-ranking university

since October 2019. Prior to this, he headed mdw’s Joseph Haydn Department of Chamber Music and served as president of the Senate at mdw.

Meissl is artistic director of isa – International Summer Academy of mdw and artistic co-director of ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy). He gives master classes worldwide and he is very active within the Musethica project, combining intensive performance training with social outreach and community engagement. For more than 30 years, he has been teacher and mentor for generations of young chamber musicians. His students won first prizes at leading international competitions and succeeded in establishing sustainable careers. For a number of his former student ensembles’ acclaimed recordings he also acted as artistic producer.

Dr Andrew F.Freris

Chairman of the Chopin Society of Hong Kong

Dr Freris has lived in Hong Kong with his wife Dr Anabella Levin-Freris, the Executive Secretary of the Chopin Society, for nearly 40 years. He taught at the London Metropolitan University and at the City University of Hong Kong where he was its first Head of the Finance and Economics Department. He also worked as an economist in senior positions for major Investment Banks such as Salomon Brothers, Bank of America and BNP Paribas. Since 2014 he has been running his own consultancy- Ecognosis Advisory Ltd.

He is, of course, a keen music lover from classics to heavy metal pop. During 2004-7 he presented regularly in RTHK the classical music programme: “Works For Me”.

Jana Krejčí (clarinet)

Jana Krejčí was born in Brno. She studied clarinet at the Jaroslava Kvapil Academy of Arts in Brno in the class of Mgr. Břetislav Winkler and at the same time playing the piano at the ZUŠ PhDr. Zbyňka Mrkose in Brno in the class of Mgr. Ilona Prchalová. In 2013, she was awarded the absolute winner in the chamber game with a predominance of wind instruments in the national round at the ZUŠ competition, and in 2014 she completed a solo performance with the Brno Philharmonic as part of the Mozart’s Children project. From 2014 to 2020, she studied clarinet at the Brno Conservatory in the class of Mgr. Břetislav Winkler. Now she is a student of the 1st year of a master’s degree at the Music Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in the class of doc. Irvin Venyš and prof. Vlastimila Mareš.

Since 2016, he has been participating annually in international master clarinet courses in Prague under the name Prague Clarinet Days and international clarinet courses in Ostrava.

During her studies at the Conservatory, she participated in several competitions, where she received various awards. She won the third prize in her category at the Pardubice Breaths Competition in 2015 and the first prize in 2017. At the ProBohemia Ostrava competition, she placed third in her category in 2016. In 2017, with the Trio of the Brno Conservatory, she participated in the competition “Karel Ditters from Dittersdorf and musical classicism”, where the ensemble won the first prize and at the same time the title of Laureate of the competition.

In 2020, she was awarded the Leoš Janáček prize for artistic activity and musical achievements during her studies at the Brno Conservatory.

She worked in student orchestras such as the Chamber Symphony Orchestra in Brno or the Young Brno Symphony Orchestra, and at the end of 2020 she was admitted to the Orchestral Academy of the Brno Philharmonic. She worked in the orchestra of the Goja musical theater in Prague for two years. In the spring of 2023, she took part in a European tour with the Czech Philharmonic as a support act.

He is actively involved in musical events at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He works in chamber ensembles, namely in the Cinque Ance Wind Trio and in the AMU Student Trio composed of violin, clarinet, piano.

Milan Al-Ashhab (violin)

Milan Al-Ashhab was born 11.12.1992. He began to study violin when he was five years old. In 2000 he became a pupil of prof. Květoslava Hasilová at Music School in Most. In 2008 he started to study at Conservatory in Teplice, still under the leadership of prof. Hasilová. Since 2012 he is student of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in class of Prof. Ivan Štraus.

Milan has been succesfull in several competitions, including 1st prize in international Kocian Violin Competition ( in Ústí nad Orlicí, Czech republic, 2006), 1st prize in Georg Philipp Telemann Competition (Poznan, Poland, 2007), 2nd prize in Luis Spohr Competition (Weimar, Germany, 2010), 1st prize in Violin Competition of Conservatories in Czech republic (Prague, 2014). He performed recitals and concertos with orchestra both in the Czech republic and abroad (Czech Philharmonic, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, Hofer Symphoniker, Europera Jugendorchestra, L’armonia terrena etc.).

He took part in many violin courses and masterclasses with famous violinists llike for example Shlomo Mintz or Ida Haendel.

THE MUSICIANS

In 1998, Petr Holman successfully completed his studies at the department of mathematics in the Charles University. In 2000 he became the winner of the Beethoven’s Hradec International Viola Competition, and a year later he graduated from the Prague Conservatory in the class of Prof. K. Doležal. In 1997-2004 he was a member of the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, with which he also appeared as a soloist in 2001. At present, Petr Holman is a professor of viola and chamber music at the Prague Conservatory.

Nevertheless, his most important musical activity is located in the field of chamber music. Petr Holman is a founding member of the Zemlinsky Quartet, which has been active on the Czech and international music scene since 1994. Its main focus are performing, recording and teaching activities. Among the ensemble’s important achievements, we can mention numerous awards in the international competitions (Banff, Prague Spring, London and especially the victory in Bordeaux, France), more than 30 CDs containig works by Czech and international composers and numerous recordings for Czech Radio. The Zemlinsky Quartet is only the fourth ensemble in history to record the complete works for string quartet by A. Dvořák. The recording of his early quartets won the prestigious French award “Diapason d’Or”.

Petr Nouzovský (violoncello)

studied at the Prague Conservatory, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden, and the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid.

Petr Nouzovský cooperates with prominent conductors, such as Charles Olivieri-Munroe, Tomáš Brauner, Jakub Hrůša, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Petr Altrichter, Caspar Richter, Jan Schultsz, Petr Popelka, Andrew Parrott, Case Scaglione, or James Judd. He performs the standard cello concert repertoire (Martinů, Dvořák, Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Haydn, Schumann, Shostakovich, Penderecki, Bloch), as well as compositions less frequently heard owing to their extraordinary degree of difficulty (such as Prokofiev’s Symphony-Concerto, or Offenbach’s Concerto Militaire, Kraft Cello Concerto).

The cellist has made recordings for Dabringhaus und Grimm, Brilliant Classics, CUBE, Albany, Supraphon, and ArcoDiva. His CD ‘Vivat tango’, recorded with the accordionist Ladislav Horák for the Supraphon, has been declared the 2014 CD of the Year by the New York Violoncello Foundation. The recently published double-CD recording of Bohuslav Martinů’s complete works for cello and orchestra (with the Pilsen Philharmonic under the baton of Tomáš Brauner), issued by the prestigious German Dabringhaus und Grimm label, has won the 2017 Classic Prague Award and the 2017 Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik Longlist; glowing reviews have appeared in the Pizzicato Luxembourg and the Frankfurter Allgemeine. His most recent CD featuring works by Antonín Dvořák (with the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice under the baton of Stanislav Vavřínek), issued by the Brilliant Classics, has been named the Album of the Weekend by the British Classic FM radio and garnered distinctions, such as the highest mark from the Pizzicato Luxembourg, five stars from the prestigious French Classica Magazine, or a unreservedly frenetic review in the Belgian Crescendo Magazine. According to the U. S. Fanfare Magazine, Nouzovský’s recording of Antonín Dvořák’s Concerto in B minor ranks as the best in history (Jerry Dubins, Fanfare Magazine, July/August 2022).

In 2020, Petr Nouzovský finished the first-ever complete recording of the cello compositions of Bohuslav Martinů, on five CDs. In this project, he was partnered by the Pilsen Philharmonic, the conductor Tomáš Brauner, and the pianists Gérard Wyss and Miroslav Sekera.

Pavla Tesařová (violin)

Violinist Pavla Tesařová, a student of the Faculty of Music and Dance at the Prague Academy of Music, became the Grand Prix holder and absolute winner of the online Beethoven International Music Competition in 2023. The competition organized by the World Online Music Competition Organization (WOMCO), based in Britain, is intended for musicians of all of all ages, for instrumentalists and vocalists, soloists, chamber ensembles, composers and conductors.

Twenty-four-year-old Pavla Tesařová has been playing the violin since the age of seven. At nine she played with Josef Suk and the PKF orchestra in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle, at eleven with Václav Hudeček in a live TV broadcast from the Zlatá Praha festival. She is the absolute winner of the Josef Micka International Violin Competition in 2015, a year later she was among the laureates of the Kocian Violin Competition and the Concertino Praga competition. In 2020, she won the France Music Competition in Paris and Manhattan, New York. She also performs in a duo with accordionist Markéta Laštovičková and together with her sister, oboist Bohdana Tesařová. He plays the violinist Jaroslav Kohout’s instrument from 2016, which he won together with the victory at the twentieth year of the Václav Hudeček Academy in Luhačovice.

Matouš Hasoň (viola)

a student of the Faculty of Music and Dance at the Prague Academy of Music. He is a member of Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra Prague and a member of The Ševčík Quartet. Quartet was founded in June 2020 in Prague.

The founding members of the quartet are talented and gifted performers of the young musical scene, in June 2021 they won first prize at the Talents for Europe competition, reached the semifinals of the Prague Spring competition and also reached the finals of the Italian Societa Umanitaria competition. The Ševčík Quartet also took part in several master classes, in France at the Musique ala Flaine with Maria Chilemme (Quatuor Ebene), in Germany at the Jenuesses Musicales Deutschalnd (Cuarteto Casals), at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with the Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet) . The ensemble also took part in a project organized by Musethica in Barcelona, where they performed repeatedly Brahms sextet together with Jonathan Brown and Eric Wise. Ševčík Quartet is developed under the supervision of players from the best Czech and foreign chamber ensembles, among them, in addition to Štěpán Ježek, Petr Holman (Zemlinsky Quartet), Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet, Jonathan Brown (Cuarteto Casals) and Yovan Markovitch (Quatuor Danel) and others.

THE MUSICIANS

He started playing the cello at the age of seven. He previously studied at the Conservatory in L’Aquila, Italy, and continued his studies at the Music Academy in Cremona. He is currently a student at Prague’s HAMU in the class of prof. Michal Kanka. He became a laureate of many international competitions and participated in master classes under the guidance of, for example, David Geringas, Steven Isserlis or Mischa Maiský.

The “YOUNG TALENTS” Series

The Chopin Society of Hong Kong, during its twenty four years history, has supported local artists through scholarships, the funding of their studies in Hong Kong and overseas and by presenting them in public recitals in Hong Kong and in other countries as well as recording them for the Society’s recording label: The Alpha Omega Sound.

Starting in 2015, the Society has been implementing in Its Joy of Music Festival, the “Young Talent” Series, an innovative programme for our young artists.

Audiences in general are always eager to attend presentations of artists who have already carved a place in their performing careers, and the Society’s presentations are no exception in acknowledging and trying to fulfill these expectations. The Society is, of course, very proud to present to the public in Hong Kong great artists who have gone through that long and arduous path until they are acknowledged and their presentations are eagerly awaited by the audiences.

Undoubtedly, a very special talent and a very strong self-discipline are essential ingredients in managing to go through this path. But there are many factors that contribute positively or negatively to the building of the career of a performing artist. Some artists will manage to overcome all obstacles and continue all through their lives in this voyage of discovery. Others will be forced to choose alternative paths in their lives. Who knows? Only time can tell!

The Chopin Society would like to offer our audiences the opportunity to listen to some of those promising, budding young artists by presenting them in brief recitals at the start of each night’s main performance. Their appearance is not there to offer opportunity for comparison or criticism, nor in any way, is their presence to detract from what follows after their brief appearance, that is the performances of seasoned and mature artists. But their presence on stage is a salute to these young talents and it is the Society’s way of giving them the chance to share, briefly, the limelight with the older and more experienced colleagues. It also gives the Hong Kong audience a sample of the artists whom they will be enjoying in the near future.

(Incidentally - people are usually familiar with opening, warm-up or supporting acts that perform at a concert before the main or featured act is presented. The use of warm-up acts is a general practice in “pop concerts” but it is not something that has been practiced in the more conventional format of classical music presentations.)

LIN YenKei Jasper (piano)

8 years old Jasper is currently a Primary 3 student at St. Paul’s College Primary School. He began his piano journey at the age of 4 under the tutelage of Pianist Ms. Chau Lok Ping. By age 7, Jasper was admitted to the Pre-Junior Music Programme at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA).

Jasper’s recent awards include Second Runner-up in the Elementary Group of the Final Round at the “2024 Hong Kong Children and Youth Piano Contest”, First Place in the Children A Group at the “28th Japan PIARA Hamamatsu Competition”, First Place in the Open Piano Solo Class Grade 5 Group at the “87th Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition”, and First Place in the Piano Age Group Pre Junior Class at the “10th Hong Kong International Youth Performance Arts Festival”.

In addition to his piano achievements, Jasper began learning the violin at the age of 5 and has demonstrated great passion in violin performance as well. Music is part of his life. He always enjoys expressing himself and bringing joy to others through music performance.

Lam Ting Hei Brandon (piano)

Born in 2013, Brandon Lam is currently attending Year 6 at the Australian International School Hong Kong. He commenced his music learning journey since the age of 3 and enrolled into the Junior Music Programme at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts at the age of 7 under the tutelage of music educator Professor Eleanor Wong and concert pianist Ms. Rachel Cheung successively.

As a recipient of multiple awards locally and regionally, Brandon possesses a great passion in sharing his music and keeps thriving through performances and competitions. At the age of 5 to 7, he was awarded the Gold Prize in the Preparatory Open Class at the Asia Music Competition for Young Artists Busan in Korea, the championship at the Budapest Liszt Ferenc Piano Competition together with the Grand Slam Prize across the children categories for age 10 and under, the championship in Children Junior Class in the Hong Kong Music Talent Music Competition 2020 and also the championship in the Elementary Category in the 83rd Steinway and Sons International Youth Piano Competition Final.

Most recently, Brandon has been recognized as one of the Hong Kong Outstanding Young Musicians in the Hong Kong International Music and Arts Festival 2024 with double championships in Children Piano Open Class and Junior Piano Own Choice Class Global Final. Brandon has also won numerous prizes in other piano competitions including the third prize in the 11th Steinway and Sons International Youth Piano Competition China Final and the Champions in Hong Kong School Music Festivals.

The “YOUNG TALENTS”

Brandon regards all his performances as enchanted moments on stage and enjoys his life filled with music. He was selected by the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong to debut at the “Magnificent Mozart” concerts at the Hong Kong City Hall in 2021. He is an active member of the school orchestra and ensemble teams playing piano and percussion instruments and contributing to diverse school concerts, music showcases and piano recitals. Brandon is also a recent member of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, supported by the Education Bureau of the HKSAR government. He has a keen interest in acoustics, exploring different sound sources and harmonies, reading, swimming and playing tennis.

ZENG Hanxuan (violin)

7th Grade, Shenzhen Art School under Professor Gleb Dontsov. She started learning violin at the age of 4 and 8 months. In 2018, She won the first place in Children’s Violin Solo Group A of the 4th Shenzhen String Competition; In July 2019, She won the gold medal in Children’s Group A of the 17th Guangdong Province Children’s Violin and String Competition; In August 2019, She won the “Golden Beijing” Gold Star Award for the 7-yearold group; In December 2020, Envoys from 22 countries stationed in China visited Shenzhen, listened to Zeng Hanxuan’s solo piece (Sarasate Introduction And Tarantella Op.43) and gave high praise. In 2021, She won the first place in Children’s Group A of the “11th Hong Kong International Violin Competition Finals”; In 2024, he won the first place in the children’s professional group of the 14th Hong Kong International Violin Competition Finals.

NG Yau (cello)

Ng Yau (Yau Yau) is an eleven-year-old ardent cellist who appears actively as soloist and orchestral player. Born and raised in Hong Kong, China, Yau Yau embarked on his musical journey at the age of five, learning classical music on the piano with his amateur pianist parents. He started learning the cello with Ms Beatrice Lee Ha-yan when he was seven and is currently under the tutelage of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) cellist Ms Anna Kwan Ton-an. At the age of eight, Yau Yau achieved Distinctions for both cello and piano in ABRSM Grade 8 and was awarded two musical scholarships from the Diocesan Boys’ School Primary Division (DBSPD). He attained Trinity ATCL Cello diploma with distinction and attended the Hong Kong Joy of Music Festival 2023 when he just turned ten, playing in the masterclass of Cellist Prof. Jian Wang, Prof. Pierre Doumenge, Ms Yeonjin Kim, Violist Prof Wing Ho, Mr. Joel Hunter and Violinist Mr. Michael Brooks Reid & Mr. Ciaran McCabe.

Yau Yau has been actively participating in various music festivals and competitions. He was rewarded a long thread of noteworthy awards, including 2nd Place in the Cello Concerto Class and 3rd Place in the Cello Sonata Class as the youngest participant and winner in due class at the Hong Kong School Music Festival, First Place Awards in both Cello Diploma Class and Children Class at the international round of the Hong Kong International Youth Performance Arts Festival, First Place in the Scholarship Class of the Hong Kong Promotion of Performing Arts Association competition, Gold Award in the Cello Diploma Class at the Joint School Music Competition, amongst many other.

Yau Yau is an avid orchestral player committed to collaborate with local renowned conductors–Dr Joseph Kam Ho-pang, Mr Homer Lee Siu-lam, Mr Andrew Ling Hin-yau, Ms Sophie Mok Sze-ki, and Mr Chu Siuwai, to name but a few. He is privileged to perform with the acclaimed Maestro Christoph Eschenbach in “Share the Stage with the HK Phil” in November 2024. Since the age of nine, Yau Yau has been the Principal Cellist of DBSPD Senior Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra and Chinese Orchestra. In the same year,

Yau Yau also served as the Associate Principal Cellist in the Music Office Junior Symphony Orchestra. From Season 2023/24 onward, he became the youngest cellist in the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra and played as the Associate Principal Cellist in the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra Annual Concert-A Journey through Orchestral Music and Music Office 45+ Anniversary Gala, Asian Youth Orchestra Hong Kong Music Summer Orchestra, Hong Kong Youth Music Camp serving as the Principal Cellist.

過去二十四年,香港蕭邦社銳意透過各種活動和計劃,如 獎學金﹑本港和海外學習基金﹑海內外公開演出機會及

蕭邦社旗下 The Alpha Omega Sound 唱片公司錄製發 行唱片等,支持和提拔本地青少年藝術家。

由 2015 年開始,蕭邦社舉辦創新項目,為具備天賦的青少 年提供表演機會。

長期為本社貢獻良多的藝術顧問,黃懿倫音樂教授,香港 著名藝術家和音樂教育家,將甄選七位樂壇新秀,於音樂 節正式演出前,表演長約五至十分鐘的曲目。

普遍而言,觀眾總是渴望欣賞成就非凡的藝術家的演出。

蕭邦社深明此意,長期以來,非常自豪為香港觀眾呈獻,在 求藝之旅經過千錘百鍊,深受觀眾愛戴的偉大藝術家們的 精彩演出。

與此同時,蕭邦社亦理解,通往藝術之旅艱辛難言,毋容置 疑,天賦異禀和高度自律是其中必不可少的基本要素之一,

但除此之外,影響藝術家表演的職業生涯正面和負面因素 眾多,有些藝術家可克服困難沙石,扺達成功彼岸。有一些, 郤被迫選擇其他道路。我們無從預見未來,只有時間可見 證這一切。

鑒於此,蕭邦社特別為觀眾獻上青少年藝術家的演出。這 些年幼又天資聰慧的青少年,因為年輕,鮮有機會在大音 樂廳裡面對眾多陌生觀眾表演,今年,蕭邦社非常高興為

這些青少年提供一個機會﹑一個舞台﹑一種鼓舞性的「致 意」,作為音樂節的「暖場節目」。( 順帶一提,公眾較熟悉 正式演出外的節目包括有開幕﹑暖場和加料節目。暖場節 目通常用於「流行音樂會」,在相對傳統的古典音樂會中並 不常見。)

林彥奇 LIN YenKei (鋼琴)

8 歲的林彥奇目前就讀於聖保羅 書院小學三年級。他在 4 歲時開 始在鋼琴家周樂娉女士的指導下 學習鋼琴。7 歲時,林彥奇被香港 演藝學院的 Pre-Junior Music Programme 課程錄取。 林彥奇最近的獲獎包括:在「2024 香港青少年鋼琴大賽」決賽中獲得 幼童組金獎季軍,在「第 28 日本 PIARA 浜松鋼琴大賽」 兒童 A 組中獲得冠軍,在「第 87 屆施坦威國際青少年鋼琴 比賽」公開鋼琴獨奏五級組中獲得冠軍,以及在「第 10 屆 香港國際青少年表演藝術節」鋼琴公開分齡組幼兒組中獲 得冠軍。

除了鋼琴成就之外,林彥奇在 5 歲時開始學習小提琴,並在 小提琴演奏方面展現出極大的熱情。音樂是林彥奇生活中 重要的一部分,是他表達自我和帶給他人快樂的主要方式。

林庭熙 Lam Ting Hei Brandon (鋼琴)

林庭熙生於 2013 年 , 現就讀於香 港澳洲國際學校就讀六年級。因為 對聲音特別敏感,他於三歲開始接 觸音樂 , 並於七歲考入香港演藝學 院青少年音樂課程先後跟隨音樂教 育家黃懿倫教授以及鋼琴演奏家張 緯晴老師學習鋼琴。

庭熙熱愛分享他的音樂 , 亦曾參與 不同演出和比賽獲得加許及肯定 , 在音樂學習路上努力扎 根成長。他於五至七歲時先後 獲得 韓國釜山亞洲音樂藝 術家大賽 2018 金獎,匈牙利布達佩斯李斯特國際鋼琴比 賽 2019 兒童組冠軍 與十歲以下各組別最高成績 Grand Slam Prize 大滿貫獎項 , 第 5 屆香港演藝精英杯音樂大 賽初級組冠軍 , 以及第 83 屆施坦威國際青少年鋼琴比賽 少兒組決賽冠軍。

本年庭熙更於香港國際音樂藝術節 2024 獲頒發香港傑出 青少年音樂家獎項 , 並於鋼琴公開演奏兒童組別 和少年 A 組自選曲組 組別全球總決賽獲得兩項冠軍。過去他亦曾 經參與其他不同的比賽並獲得獎項 , 包括第 11 屆施坦威 國際青少年鋼琴比賽中國區決賽季軍 及 香港校際音樂節 比賽冠軍。庭熙亦是校內管弦樂團的活躍成員,負責鋼琴 和敲擊樂演出部分並恆常協助學校完成不同的音樂演出。 他同時也是由政府教育局資助的香港資優教育學苑成員之

青少年音樂英才系列

一。除鋼琴外 , 他的興趣是探索和研究聲音的來源、閱讀、 游泳和打網球。

於鋼琴演奏上,庭熙期望將好的音樂體驗分享與觀眾。他 曾獲香港城市室樂團選拔 , 邀請於 2021 年在香港大會堂 「莫札特的魔法」三場音樂會中演奏莫札特最早期作品。

他十分期待能在是次美樂聚演出分享更多莫扎特的作品。

朱一瑋 ZHU Yiwei (結他)

2010 年 3 月 28 日出生于上海,就 读 于上海市音樂学院附中。7 歲起跟随 林幻奇老師学習古典吉他,2021 年 起師从上海音樂学院 刘 宪 績 副教授 (泰雷加国际吉他大賽金獎 获 得者), 并于 2023 年以專业分 数 第一的成 績 考入上海音樂学院附中古典吉他 專业,一 玮 在 过 去的学習 阶 段也曾 赢 得 过 多个獎 项。

2019 年:“东宮杯”上海吉他大賽儿童組金獎第一名

2020 年: 玛丁尼古典吉他大賽上海賽區儿童組初賽 第一名

2021 年: 中国青少年音樂比賽蜂鸟音樂獎 上海(省级)賽區 古典吉他一等獎 , 全国级 比賽 古典吉他二等獎

2021 年:“东宮杯”上海吉他大賽暨“娜塔莎正安吉他”全国吉 他邀請賽少年組金獎第一名

2023 年:“东宮杯”上海吉他大賽暨“娜塔莎吉他”全国吉他邀 請賽專业組金獎第一名

香港國際青少年表演藝術節國際總決賽大提琴演奏級組第 一名及兒童組第一名,聯校音樂大賽大提琴演奏級組金獎 等。

幽幽不但活躍於獨奏演出,亦熱衷於與一眾青年樂手合作 樂團演奏,在過去曾多次與 眾傑出本地指揮家演出交響樂及弦樂音樂會,包括甘浩鵬 博士、李少霖先生、凌顯祐 先生、莫思奇小姐、朱紹威先生等。幽幽有幸與傳奇指揮 家艾遜巴赫於 2024 年 11 月在《與港樂同台演奏》演出。 幽幽自九歲開始一直擔任拔萃男書院附屬小學高級交響樂 團、弦樂團以及中樂團大提琴首席。同年,幽幽亦曾擔任音 樂事務處少年交響樂團大提琴副首席,於 2023/24 年度成 為香港青年交響樂團成員,現為該樂團最年青大提琴手, 並作為大提琴副首席參加了「香港青年交響樂團周年音樂 會 - 交響之旅」,以及「音樂事務處 45+ 周年大匯演」,亦 參與亞洲青年管弦樂團香港暑期音樂營及於香港青年音樂 營擔任首席大提琴。

程函霏CHENG Hanfei (結他)

2016 年 6 月 7 日出生于上海,3 歲

半随父 开 始接触古典吉他,5 歲半正 式拜上海音樂学院古典吉他專业副 教授、演奏家 刘 宪績為師,学習至今。

自幼随上海歌 剧 院花腔女高音季韵

翬学習声樂至今,2023 年考入上海 “春天合唱团”随团学習、演出至今; 樂理、视唱 练 耳、剑 道等艺体 项 目学 習至今。

吳幽 NG Yau (大提琴) 中國香港少年大提琴手吳幽 ( 幽 幽 ) 現年十一歲,自五歲開始他的 音樂之旅,在鋼琴上與父母研習古 典音樂。七歲時跟隨啓蒙老師李夏 茵女士學習大提琴,目前,幽幽正 追隨香港管弦樂團 ( 港樂 ) 大提琴 家關統安女士習琴,他亦於大師班 接受著名大提琴家王健、佩爾.多 明戈、金兗珍,小提琴家米高.布 魯克斯里,中提琴家何榮、喬爾.亨 特及小提琴家西倫.麥卡比及的指導。幽幽於八歲時以優 異成績取得英國皇家音樂學院大提琴及鋼琴八級,亦曾獲 拔萃男書院附屬小學頒發兩個音樂獎學金,隨後以優異成 績取得聖三一大提琴 ATCL 演奏文憑。

幽幽經常以獨奏者身份參加音樂節與音樂比賽並獲得多個 獎項殊榮,包括香港學校音樂節大提琴協奏曲組第二名和 大提琴奏鳴曲組第三名,成為年級最小的參賽及獲獎者;

演出经 历 : 上海音樂廳、捷豹交响音樂廳、上海东方艺术中心、九棵 树 未 来 艺术中心、上海兰心大 剧 院、上海宛平剧 院等。
