Acid Lab Camp Laboratory - Residency Abraham Hurtado / AADK Spain July 22nd-29th 2017 / Centro Negra Abraham Hurtado’s Labs focus on the idea of the body as the container of emotions, both personal and social; they seek to expose the desolation and collateral damages that the body keeps in its self after going through traumatic events or intense life experiences. Body has its own language and can, though the image that its presence creates, talk to us about emotions such as frustration, brutality, collapse, euphoria, anger, emptiness, desire, etc. Abraham explores the role of fiction In the current times when cynicism and disillusion are constantly shadowing. His work penetrates in the relation between the artist and its context, making its way to new models and statements in the contemporary art practice. During the last ten years, Hurtado has been developing the concept of a “body in crisis” and its reflections on the relationship with the territory and space. Abraham has developed his practice in different media such as performance, installation, audiovisual installation, photography, editorial, apps and sonoric art. Acid Lab Camp is a place for multidisciplinary experimentation and creation, an experience of nine days in which the participants will be conducted and guided through Abraham’s methodology and will work with trigger topics proposing ideas to develop in different media. The artist will, for the first time, open this process to the contribution of external people, leading a practice methodology that will help to work intensively with the participants. The process of experimentation and emotional states will be strong and dynamic.

About the place: Centro Negra is the Headquarter of AADK Spain, placed in the city of Blanca, Murcia, Spain. The town of 6000 inhabitants is part of the Ricote Valley, and crossed by the Segura river. A scenic site surrounded by mountains and ochre yards. The Center is settled in the oldest area of town, reachable only by foot and blended to the hillside of the mountain, under an Arabic castle from the XII Century. A set of poultry yard build in the beginning of the XX Century was transformed into the current Centro Negro building: a minimalistic space that preserves in its structure the walls of the mountain. Connected to Ricote’s valley trough its big windows, it allows the users to have a continuous contact with the landscape.

AADK Spain is an international artistic platform that opens a space for research and contemporary art creation. Focused on process and experimentation, Its main interest is to explore the notions of body, spatiality, and territory. In 2006 AADK (Aktuelle Architektur Der Kultur) emerged as an artist’s network based in Berlin. The platform converged to develop curatorial and artistic projects, invading and transforming spaces that go from unused places to art institutions; establishing new relationships between curation, creation, and reception; and generating experiences that displace the margins of regular art practices. As an extension of this project in 2012 Abraham Hurtado, performer and visual artist, established AADK Spain, settled at Centro Negra (Blanca, Murcia, Spain) with the invitation to operate in a rural context -working from local to global. Over these years, AADK Spain has designed and established different programs such as the Residency Program, Contemporary Practices, Cartographies and AADK Radio. Also, AADK Spain collaborates intrinsically with other artistic and cultural spaces. This allows the platform to promote the mobility and exchange of their visiting artists and their artworks, in both national and international levels.
