Conceptual Design ideas

Separate building blocks for library and socio-cultural activities, so as to allow smooth functioning of other activities post library hours

A common entrance plaza and separate pedestrian entry facilitates hassle free transition experience between the blocks

Both major building blocks; the library and socio-cultural block, are connected by auxiliary spaces like cafeteria and common locker rooms

The South block - Socio-cultural area is designed low in height, as it is the prevailing wind direction. All spaces throughout the site will be naturally ventilated

URBAN DESIGN INTERVENTIONS PATAN, GUJARAT Urban Design Studio Studio - VII

Existing situation analysis Land-use mapping

The selected site for Urban design studio was at Patan, Gujarat. The Urban studio aimed at achieving an approach that kept in mind the complex and inter-connected web of the meta-physics of the city. Patan, being a heritage city with its high fort walls separating old and new town and the intricate art of making patolas, the task here was to revive the essence of the heritage that was observed to be diminishing. The master plan attempts, through its various interventions to enliven the core stretch of the city.

The main appraoch road to the site is towards the south - west side. 4. Dense vegetation and barren lands are distributed all accross the site.

Zoning Plan

Selected zone for IT Park proposal

Average climatic conditions pertained to Altitude: 1300 meters Temparature: Max. - 35 degrees, Min. - -2 degrees Average Elevation: 1600 meters Climate: Cold and Humid Area (Solan): 1926 Sq. Km. Population: 5,80,000 Total site area: 0.76 Sq. Km. Zone for IT Park proposal: 45,100 Sq. m. Built - up area: 30,750 Sq. m. Maximum building height: G + 3 floors Consumed FSI: 0.68

IT Park Residential sector Recreational sector Existing dense vegetation Commercial sector Infrastructure services Common plot Road

N

Basic idea for Zoning proposal 1. The main proposed road follows the existing cotour lines for optimal gradient. 2. IT Parks are proposed near the main spinal road to easy access. 3. Residential sectors are placed by clubbing them together behind IT Parks. 4. Existing dense forest areas are not disturbed and pedestrainization is promoted inside zones. 5. The IT Park has south facing slope, so as to maximize south sun in cold and humid climate. Aarohi Makdani
