Lowell Hicks and I discuss Texas politics.
Many of you will be reading this editorial at the NAAA convention in Savannah the first week of December. I hope it turns out to be “most of you” instead of “many of you”. Whenever NAAA changes the venue of its national convention, it takes a chance on its success. In the past, NAAA conventions have been very successful when held in Reno or Las Vegas. However, there is a need for a location other than a gambling town in Nevada. I’m sure you will find much to do in Savannah and surrounding areas. Just be sure to schedule your tourism time around your professional time for attending concurrent sessions and the exhibit hall. Recently, Graham and I made a road trip that took us from Georgia to Panhandle, Texas, northward to Colorado Springs, Colorado, back to Midland, Texas and toward home through Rosenberg, Texas. In Panhandle we visited with an operator whose pilot would rather fly ag than Part 135 charter. In Colorado Springs, we attended the Colorado AAA convention, the first time I’ve been able to make that convention in more than a decade.
A road trip and ferrying to Brazil Usually, it falls on Graham’s and my birthdays. For the last 31 years, Graham and I have always spent our birthday together (he was a gift to me from his mother). This year the CoAAA show was a week earlier, so attending it fit well with our travel schedule. Working our way back toward Georgia from Colorado took us through Midland, Texas to attend the official launch of the first FAA-certified TRACE engine installation. Did you know that TRACE is an acronym for Texas Reciprocating AirCraft Engine? You’ll be reading more about this remarkable engine in an upcoming edition of AgAir Update. Go to AgAir Update’s Multimedia Gallery on our website and see the short video of TRACE’s AT-401 maiden flight. Departing Midland pointed to the southeast, we stopped at Lane Airpark in Rosenberg, Texas, home of Lane Aviation. The ramp was crowded with a dozen new Air Tractors being prepped for delivery to the new owners. Three of those aircraft were heading to Brazil, a 30-hour plus ferry flight. I’ve requested from one of the ferry pilots, Ray Dyson, a travel log-style article about what
I call an adventure, ferrying to South America. Maybe Ray will have time to write this article and AgAir Update readers will have a better insight about ferrying aircraft to South America. When it comes to ferrying aircraft to South America, it is not for the faint of heart. Last summer, a new Air Tractor had an engine failure on takeoff crashing on a golf course as it was southeast bound for Brazil. Fortunately, the pilot was not hurt. However, there was no new replacement aircraft available for what had to have been a very disappointed customer. On another ferry flight of two new Air Tractors ferrying to Brazil this fall, one approached a storm cell and in the turn See Editorial page 7

I just want to say to all the good folks that kept Crowley Ridge Aviation going for 24 years, “Thanks from the bottom of my heart.” Like any business, we had good times and bad. The good outweighed the bad for sure. I had the pleasure of having good employees and customers that made it all happen. It was sad to see it all go up in smoke, but we have to move on. Many thanks, Bruce Hayes aka The Duster Doctor West Helena, AR

had been lowered from last year’s. He was also very concerned about application techniques being used. Not a good image for the rest of the industry. In other news, I have been flying the AT-802A. I don’t understand all the hoopla about this bird. It is just a bigger, more productive version of the AT-502B. No complaints at all, just my observation. It flies just fine and is a proven workhorse. The biggest difference I noticed is the lack of right rudder control during the takeoff roll. A nice, smooth application of power keeps it very manageable, along with rudder trim. Andy Stein Woodland, CA Hello Andy; The verdict is still out on the impact chemical companies will have on our industry if the current trend of buying ag-operations continues. STC Bill, good day. Where can I get info about STCs using automobile gas on Cessna-188 and radial engines? I need to compare becasue av-gas is really expensive down here. Carlos Motta. Atomizadora Panama Hola Carlos; I am not familiar with the companies that offer STCs for Mogas on piston engines. I think one popular company is Peterson, but I don’t know anything about them. I do know that in talking with Otis Perera at Aero Engines in California (radial engines), he tells horror stories about what Mogas does to the radial engine. He says he can identify the engine when it comes into the shop and know if it has been burning Mogas. I also doubt there’s a Mogas STC on the big bore Continental engines like found in the C-188s. I wouldn’t run it in my Baron, that’s for sure. I suggest you do a Google Search. Maybe that’ll help ya!—Bill
away from it encountered a suspected microburst. The G-forces were so violent the wings were bent and had to be replaced. The pilot was not hurt and landed safely, but understandably shaken. One of these days, when I have a month to get it done, I am going to make a ferry flight to South America. I can assure you, I will allow for weather and have an experienced ferry pilot in the lead. There just aren’t any good landing options over the Amazon! I look forward to visiting with a great number of you, not only in Savannah at the NAAA convention, but at many of the state trade shows held in January and February, 2011. Unfortunately, there are several overlaps of convention dates that make it impossible for many vendors to attend, having to choose between one show or the other. Such a scenario happened last month with Colorado, California and Mid-States (IL, IN, IA) overlapping. It will happen in 2011 with the Northeast and Oklahoma, Oklahoma and Mississippi, Texas and Missouri, New Mexico and Louisiana,
NATA (Nebraska) and Tri-States (MN, SD, ND), Arizona and Arkansas, as well as North Carolina and Canada AAA. If you are part of the decisionmaking process for date selection for your state or region, why not take into consideration the possibility of other conventions overlapping the dates you are considering? Cooperation amongst associations in this matter would greatly enhance vendor attendance and improve the quality of the show. I’ll get off my soapbox and close this editorial. It’s the off season for most of you. During this time, make a conscious effort to learn more about your profession, spend quality time with your family and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Until next month, Blue Sky and Tailwinds...

Looking back by Bill Lavender Here it is, the end of 2010 and another great year overall for ag-pilots is coming to a close. I always reserve the December edition of AgAir Update as an opportunity to look back over the last 11 editions of the year. The January 2010 edition Thrush Aircraft closing in featured on GE 510 certification Thrush Aircraft’s GE Aviation H80powered 510 Thrush. Thrush Aircraft has been working to certify this aircraft for about two years. The promise of 800 SHP up to 97°F in this 510-gallon aircraft will make a huge difference in performance compared to other engines. It is hoped that the certified version will be at the NAAA convention in Savannah this year and that I will have flown it.

February’s edition introduced Air Tractor a flyable AT-1002A debuts at AT-1002A AT-1002. nAAA Air Tractor continues working to bring this huge aircraft to the SEAT and ag flying market. Many ag-pilots thought the AT-802 was too big for ag-work when it was introduced in the early 1990s. Almost twenty years later, some think the same about the AT-1002, even though more than 300 AT-802s have been sold. It would not be surprising for the AT-1002 to repeat history. this aircraft is making history in the U.S. where there are less water sites to scoop water and land.
Every agpilot realizes control of the application’s droplet size is key to success, whether it be achieving the mission at hand or controlling drift. The April edition features an Alan McCracken-written article, who is a low-volume application expert that conducts numerous scientific low-volume evaluations throughout Latin America where low-volume and ultra low-volume applications are considered the norm. In this article, not only does Alan comment on the equipment being used, but also focuses on the effects of adjuvants in the spray mix. Volume 28, Number 4 april 2010

hundred hours, both in transitioning a piston Air Tractor pilot to turbine aircraft and in regular ag-spraying operations. He has reported the aircraft works well, very much like the AT-502, with or without a “student” onboard.
The June edition of AgAir Update, with its AirFire & Forestry section, featured M & M Air Service, based in Beaumont, Texas, fertilizing pine trees. Until recently, fertilizing trees had almost come to a stop due to rising fertilizer costs. However, with fertilizer prices falling, then stabilizing, M & M Air Service was able to procure a large contract that required the spreading of 9,400 tons of fertilizer in four states; Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The article goes into detail with the contract starting in mid-February and ending by mid-May, burning over 100,000 gallons of Jet-A, an average of a transport load every three days. agairupdate.com Volume 28, Number 6 JuNe 2010

The July edition was one that I really enjoyed publishing. I was allowed to conduct an evaluation flight of the Turbine Husky. In this edition, I traveled to McMinnville, Oregon to fly the RollsRoyce (Allison)-powered aircraft. There was no lack of power and performance. With the September edition, AgAir Update’s Balkan countries European with an impressive writer, Igor firefighting fleet Bozinovski, submitted the cover story about the Balkan countries firefighting efforts. In many ways, European countries lead the aerial firefighting industry, using massive Russian-built Mi8 and Mi17 helicopters, along with a large fleet of AT-802s, both land and float-equipped. Unlike the U.S. and Canada, in Europe it is common for the government of a country to be the purchaser of a new AT-802. Often these contracts are multimillion dollar purchases that include the aircraft, support equipment with both pilot and mechanic training. Greece remains the leading Balkan aerial firefighting power with a combined fleet of 12 piston-engine CL-215s, nine CL-415 turboprops and 20 M-18 Dromaders. The October Gaivota Agricultural Aviation edition expanding in Brazil took AgAir Update readers to Mato Grosso, Brazil for an article about Gaivota Agricultural Aviation. Brazil has an ever-expanding agricultural aviation industry. The number of aircraft are not increasing as much as the size of the aircraft. The pistonpowered, Brazilian-built Ipanema is being replaced in some regions with turbine-powered ag-planes. Ag-flying is very different in Brazil. Pilots wanting to fly ag are required to first attend ag-school. Many growers have literally 100,000-acre plus farms. Although a number of North American ag-pilots would like to work in Brazil during the Southern Hemisphere summer, there are no

Time Flies The 2010 summer fire season is now in the history books and it will go down as one of the least active seasons in a long, long time. As in the past two seasons, conditions were present for a lot of activity but Mother Nature provided few widespread lightning events to trigger ignition. As a result, the entire fleet of Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) only flew 1,800 hours. This compares to past years when up to 14,000 hours were logged. Many SEATs that were prepositioned were never placed on duty. After three lackluster seasons, many operators and flight crews are hoping the 2011 season will be better. Every three years the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) issues new contracts for SEATs. I received my copy about a week ago. There were no big changes from past contracts and most of the new items are related to pilot training and safety. All pilots will now be required to pass a mission competency evaluation. These evaluations will be conducted in accordance with the Interagency Airplane Pilot Practical Test Standard administered by an AMD Pilot Inspector or designee. The tests will be given in simulators located at McClellen Air Force Base. Level II pilots must complete it every 24 months and Level I pilots every 36 months. Also new in pilot training is pilots can fulfill the requirement for
mountain flying by attending one of the two approved schools. In past contracts proficiency flights were at the option of the government. They will now be required if the pilot has not been mission active in the past fourteen days. Earlier, I related to the summer fire season, but some parts of the country have fall and winter seasons.
West Texas and southern New Mexico are shaping up to have a very active winter season. Heavy rains in late summer contributed to an already heavy fuel load and once a killing freeze blankets the region and cures the grass, the stage will be set.
season on record. As I write this, I am on the King Ranch in south Texas and we are under a Red Flag Warning due to high winds and low relative humidity. Social networking has become very popular these days. I originally signed up on Facebook to keep up with what my kids are up too. I soon found that it was a tool to contact people with common threads. Aerial fire fighters are no exceptions. I now have contacts on every continent, except Antarctica. It is very interesting and informative to see how others perform our job around the globe. Now is the time of year for meetings and training programs. I had hoped to travel to Georgia for the NAAA convention, but contract obligations will prevent me from making the trip. It is always good to attend and see old friends and make new ones. I hope that as you participate in these gatherings that you bring something with you. I have always said the best training tool is combined experience. Have a safe and profitable year and I hope to see you in the mountains.

by Marc Mullis Tibuthiuron is a selective herbicide manufactured by Dow Chemical Company and sold under the trade name Spike. It is formulated in a one-quarter inch extruded clay pellet that contains twenty percent of active ingredient. An application rate of onehalf pound per acre would put only six pellets in a 32-square foot area. After being activated by one-half inch of precipitation, it is absorbed by the roots of the target species and moves into the leaves where it prevents photosynthesis. In essence, the
plant slowly starves to death, as it is unable to produce food. Spike only works on woody species and is labeled for use on industrial sites, right-ofways, fencerows and rangeland. It has become a very popular tool in western rangeland management as post treatment areas show an increase in grass production and moisture retention properties of the soil. One Southwestern state has integrated Spike
into a program that has a goal of returning the land to its original status. The program is called Restore New Mexico. Over the past few decades, millions of acres have been treated and the program continues with treatment
areas determined by available budget monies. Last fall the company I fly for, M & M Air Service was awarded a contract to apply Spike to 54,000 acres in the Land of Enchantment. The treatment areas were in six different areas of the state and the project was expected to take two to four weeks to complete using two turbine powered aircraft. The Bureau of Land Management administered the contract and provided representatives at each application location. The

contract started at the Navajo Dam airport in early October. This remote airstrip sits atop a steep mesa overlooking the San Juan River in the northwest part of the New Mexico. It is in very rugged country with sagebrush as the target species. Fellow pilot James Daniel and I had a few weather delays, but just before the contract started all of the crew had arrived and was ready to work Monday morning. With five ground support vehicles and crewmembers from our company and the BLM personnel, we had turned into a fair-sized crowd. After calibrating the aircraft and discussing contract issues, we headed for the nearest hotel forty miles west in Farmington. The work at Navajo Dam went fast. In past years, most of the maps had been what I call snags, cut up and scattered tracts that took a lot of flight time to do properly. This year the maps were much better, large unbroken areas that made the flying easier. We quickly completed the area to be treated and moved to our next area, Cuba, New Mexico. Cuba is a small town nestled in the Rocky Mountains just to the east of
the Continental Divide. We flew off a BLM dirt airstrip at an elevation of over 7,000 MSL. Density altitude was a factor as the afternoon temperature rose. Mother Nature cooperated, the maps were good and we found ourselves ahead of schedule. In a few days, we completed the mapped areas and were on our way to the next stop, Truth or Consequences and the White Sands Missile Range. The majority of our work at T or C took place inside the vast restricted airspace that includes most of central New Mexico. Required contacts were made and mission codes were supposedly issued for each day’s work. We decided to fly off a dirt road leading to the newly built Space Port America. It was a decision we would soon regret! The first morning flying out of Space Port went fine. However, when I headed to my second tract things took a turn for the worse. Cherokee Control suddenly barked my N-number and informed me that I was three miles inside forbidden airspace and needed to leave the area immediately. The next few days were spent trying to figure out the complex airspace and
where and when we could fly there. In the end, we completed all assigned tracts, packed up and headed south to Grants. James and I flew into Grants several hours ahead of our ground support convoy. I decided to check out from the air a ranch airstrip that was close to the treatment area. After I determined the strip was not useable, I headed to the treatment area. The scenery was awesome. I climbed higher and higher over vast lava flows and stands of Ponderosa pine. When I arrived at the large tract, my first thought was that someone had made a huge mistake. I was well over 8,000’ ML. The vegetation below me was predominately pinion pine and juniper (P&J). I had applied lots of Spike a vast amount of different terrain, but nothing even close to this, I would soon learn why. When I returned to Grants, the long line of support vehicles were pulling into the gates. I climbed down from the cockpit and started for one of the BLM truck drivers to tell him what I had just seen. Before I could get the first sentence out he held up his hand to stop me; the more he explained,
the more it all started to make sense. The funding for this part of the contract had come from the BLM fire prevention budget. The huge lava flows and Ponderosa Pine forest were all part of the El Malpais National Monument that is managed by the National Parks Service. The pinon and juniper to be treated were part of the El Malpais Conservation Area that is managed by the BLM. Under a cooperative agreement between the two agencies, the BLM agreed to thin the P&J to create a huge firebreak around the Monument. The P&J burns very hot and is difficult to control once it gets going. The rehabilitation costs after a fire on a national monument is extremely high often many times more than the cost of fighting the fire. Federal law requires that monument lands be returned to the same state as before the fire. The agreement would benefit both agencies in long range lowering of fire suppression costs. The reason I had never seen this type of treatment is that it had never been done before. Mother Nature had been very good to us since we started the contract. Now She was beginning to offer

afternoon thunderstorms in the high country south of Grants. With a little luck and some mountain pass scud running, we soon had our monster firebreak completed. We departed the high country for the lower desert region of southern New Mexico. We set up at a dirt airstrip on the Buddy Stockton Ranch located between Deming and Silver City. At 83 years old, an entire book could be written about this wild-west character. Still spry and gritty, I never grew tired of listening to Buddy’s tales of cat hunts and ordeals on the rangeland. Even though he does not fly, he maintains his airstrip for us to use every year although the work may not be for his ranch. He is the living epitome of the southwest cowboy.
The target species on the ranch was creosote bush, or greasewood as it
could not be compressed into this article. The sights and cultures of this enchanting state are impossible to put into words. We were told we would be returning in late November to apply Spike to another 26,000 acres in the southeast part of the state. This next project will be for a Soil and Water Conservation District. I look forward to seeing the fruits of our labors in the years to come. Signs were posted to let the public know what was going on.

is commonly called. This invasive species infests large areas of the desert and will use all available water, preventing any grass species from becoming established. The before and after treatment areas are just amazing. After the greasewood is removed the grass really makes a comeback and the grazing capacity of the rangeland is doubled. A treatment is akin to doubling your acreage without increasing your property taxes. Once the grass is back, it holds more moisture in the soil, which benefits all fauna and wildlife. Erosion is reduced and the overall watershed is improved. When applied at the proper rate returns from a Tibuthiuron treatment can last for up to thirty-five years. That is also how long it has been on the market, so it remains to be seen how long it will last. Our tour through New Mexico involved many more experiences that

Bitola Airshow - the sole Macedonian airshow in 2010 by Igor Bozinovski The sole airshow in the territory of the Republic of Macedonia took place on the 18 and 19 of September 2010 at the outskirts of Bitola, the second largest city in Macedonia. Bitola is located in southwest Macedonia, some 180 km from its capital Skopje and only 15 km away from the border with Greece. Being officially named “The 3rd International Air Show”, was organized by the local Aero Club “Mirko Todorovski” and was executed at Logovardi sport and agricultural airport located eight km east of Bitola. Despite its official name, the airshow was predominantly a Macedonian aviation airshow with the term “international” being hardly deserved thanks to the participation of only one non-Macedonian aircraft - an Italian Tecnam P92 Echo light sport aircraft. It departed from Agoti, near Naples, and after a total flight time of 3.5 hours arrived at Logovardi airport
flying over Italy, the Adriatic Sea and Albania. The Bitola airshow was opened in a very spectacular way when a pair of Air Tractor AT-802A Fire Boss amphibious fire-fighting aircraft, performed a lowand-fast fly pass over Logovardi grass runway. They demonstrated their abilities when Z3-BGU made an impressive salvo drop of 2,840 liters of water followed by Z3-BGT that made a 350 meters-long continuous drop of the same water load. The 2010 Bitola airshow will remain remembered as the first-ever public display of Air Tractor fleet of the Protection and Rescue Directorate of the Republic of Macedonia. In 2009 the Macedonian government procured three AT-802A Fire Boss planes, related aircraft equipment, spare parts and training for pilots, engineers and mechanics under a 10.3 million USD contract with the Spanish company “Air Tractor Europe S.L.”. The demonstration of Protection and
Rescue Directorate Air Tractor AT-802A Fire Boss planes at Logovardi effectively marked the end of the 2010 fire-fighting season, the first for the Macedonian AT-802A Fire Boss fleet, during which the three Macedonian fire-fighting planes performed 142 wildfires-extinguishing flights in a total time of 40 hours. The attractiveness of the Bitola airshow was also helped by the Macedonian Air Force that deployed to Logovardi a total of five aircraft - two helicopters and three planes - that all, except one, participated in the flying program. A pair of Zlin 242L planes performed a short but attractive acrobatic flying while the transport biplane An-2R Colt was used to bring a group of parachutists to a safe drop attitude over Logovardi airport. A flying demonstration was given by the Macedonian Air Force Mi-24V combat helicopter that was accompanied to Logovardi by one Mi-17 transport helicopter that took part only in the static
exposition. Unlike the previous two years, this year the Bitola airshow was short of the participation of Macedonian Police Helicopter Unit that usually support such events with its helicopter fleet. Nevertheless, the presence of Macedonian sport clubs was quite obvious with all except Aero Club “Skopje” attending the event. The result of cooperation between Macedonian aero clubs was clearly demonstrated in two group-flying occasions - the trio of Utva 75A-21 planes owned by Aero Club “Shtip”, “Prilep” and Z3-DCH “Mirko Todorovski” was promptly followed by a duo of Cessna 172 aircraft owned by Aero Club “Mirko Todorovski” and “Boni Air”. The host of the Bitola airshow, Aero Club “Mirko Todorovski”, used its Utva 75A-21 to tow their Let L-23 Super Blanik glider that give an impressive fly-over Logovardi airfield. The host also had on static display its sole Utva 66 aircraft

that despite being non-operational has a historical value due to the fact it is the first serial produced aircraft of that type. The Bitola 2010 airshow also saw an appropriate share of participation by Aero Club “Mirko Todorovski” model aviation enthusiasts, as well as the Macedonian ultra-light community that was represented by at least three aircraft, ICP Savannah, Maja and Fascination D4B. All in all, the “The 3rd International Air Show” in Bitola was a real success keeping in mind the overall stagnation and slow development of the Macedonian aviation over the past years. The event saw huge attention by Macedonian media and was attended by more than 4,000 visitors from all over the country. The intention of organizers is to transform this event into an annual ever-improving tradition with an initial goal 2011 Bitola airshow to become a real international event that will attract some 10,000 visitors that will be delighted by the presence of some wellrecognized international acrobatic group.

spreading the facts
about STFs We are each aware of the need to get out the “Good” word about pesticides and aerial applications. But it appears we are preaching to the choir, ourselves! Although, much progress is being made with the school programs teaching kids about ag aviation. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the American population is urban. Therefore many probably aren’t getting our message. Most ag applicators simply do not have the time or expertise to address civic clubs and preach on-the-stump about our industry. But there is a way to make a difference. At AAU we have developed an idea that each of us can participate in with little or no effort and yet make an impact on Americans nationwide. Every newspaper is always looking for newsworthy and interesting information they can publish with minimum effort, i.e. no reporter or research costs. Submissions with reprint permission always generate interest. With the “Spreading The Facts” section in AAU, you can copy and mail, email or fax to your newspaper positive information everybody else needs to know that we already know! It will be reprinted in multiple newspapers educating the public with “Spreading The Facts” about ag aviation and pesticides. • Photocopy/cut and paste it • Mail, email or fax it to newspaper. Prince Charles promotes world hunger by Dennis T. and Alex A. Avery, CHURCHVILLE, VA—Prince Charles of England has come out again against the genetically modified foods that are a key hope for producing the extra food needed by our richer, more populous world in the decades just ahead. He must know that, thanks to science, world grain production tripled during his lifetime, from about 700-million tons per year to nearly 2,100-million tons. This achievement was certainly not due to his elitist organic farming, which continues to yield about half as much per acre as conventional farming. For fifty years, we’ve even bombarded seeds with radioactive isotopes to force useful new seed mutations! Dr. Norman Borlaug, winner of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize was honored for breeding the high-yield seeds of the Green Revolution of the 1960. What if we hadn’t tripled the world’s crop yields with the Green Revolution? Not only would one billion people have starved, but the fabric of the planet would have been rent by more “hunger wars.” Millions more would have died in the battles and in the famines and disease epidemics that always accompany wars. Charles says biotech crops “haven’t raised crop yields.” Nonsense! For openers, biotechnology’s pest-resistant cotton seeds have raised yields by one-third on the 35-million cotton acres in China and India. That has freed 15-million acres for additional food crops
in the very countries which are currently adding the most pressure on world food supplies. Biotech varieties also produce higher corn and soy yields. In Africa, genetically researched corn produces four times as much corn per acre—and an even bigger gain in food security—because new varieties are naturally tolerant of an herbicide called imazopyr. When these corn seeds are soaked in small amounts of the herbicide, the imazopyr suppresses the endemic witchweed, a parasitic weed that invades grain plants through their roots. The newest biotech rice, wheat and rapeseed varieties suddenly need only half as much nitrogen fertilizer to produce a full yield. This cuts food costs and means almost no N left over to leach into nearby streams. Nitrogenefficient corn is also on its way. We might ask the future King of England: “What about the millions of pounds of pesticide that haven’t been sprayed in the air to protect our crops, because a safe and ubiquitous soil organism called Bacillus thuringiensis, engineered into the plants, kills cropeating caterpillars?” If humans will need twice as much food and feed in 2040 how would we feed ourselves and our increasing number of pets with low organic yields? Organic fields yields are limited primarily because of the global shortage of manure. However, the world would need billions

more cattle to get extra manure and we’d have to clear forests to grow their forage. “Green manure crops” steal land, sunshine, water and soil nutrients from food and feed crops. How would the future king tell the cat and dog owners of Britain that, because of his anti-science elitism, pet food sales must be banned so people could eat? The best non-science solution I’ve heard is from Vijay Prakash, Secretary of Welfare in India’s Bihar state. Prakash says we should eat rats. Then the rats won’t eat the stored grain and the people will get more high-quality protein. He is promoting rat meat in the villages—and talking with hotels about rat meat on their menus. It’s at least more realistic than expecting humans to become vegetarian. And we wish Queen Elizabeth a very long and healthy life. DENNIS T. Looking for information on pesticide tolerances? Use EPA’s updated online tool EPA has updated an online tool that allows users to easily search for pesticide tolerance information on food and feed commodities. Users can now locate the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) section numbers (for example 180.220 for atrazine) to determine whether a pesticide ingredient has a permanent tolerance or exemption from the requirement of a tolerance by the pesticide common name (e.g., dicamba, thidiazuron) or by pesticide type and family (e.g., acaricide, carbamate family). The index contains the following information for each chemical: • • • • •

A big bullet was dodged yesterday A friend of mine was helping me out yesterday and ran out of fuel, landed on a 4 lane highway with no damage to him or the airplane! Several contributing factors led to this event, all seemingly innocent. My

stepson, out of college for a while, was loading and fueling his airplane and had become used to only filling my airplane, (a 502) to the tab in the tank, because I have long-range, 117 gallons per side and limit my fuel and weight.
So my stepson, James, only filled John’s tank in the 402 to the tab, but he doesn’t have long-range tanks and set off to do a bunch of small, timeconsuming fields that took a long time to spray. As he was finishing up the first load, the engine quit and the electric fuel pump made no difference and he landed on the four-lane that he was working beside. We brought fuel and purged the air with the boost pump and flew the airplane home, courtesy of our Sheriff deputies help. I asked John if he didn’t notice the low fuel condition and he said that the glass of the fuel gauge had fell in and laid aginst the fuel needle and stuck it, so he was unaware of his plight until the engine quit! So, between not filling it up, a bunch of small, time-consuming fields and an inop fuel gauge, disaster
almost struck and we were very lucky that this outcome unfolded, with the world’s longest runway right next to the fields. The miss-communication between the fueler and the pilot, who was unaware that his tank wasn’t filled and the time-consuming small fields all contributed....how accidents develop! Best, Pierre Smith Louisville, GA Hello Pierre; I read your post a couple days ago and it reminded me of 1992 when I was flying for Jack Mussellwhite, after his son, Terry, got killed spraying. Jack was loading his old 600 Thrush and I was flying it, spraying peanuts. The fuel gauge glass was not broken, but the needle was always pegged either full or empty, can’t remember which, due to a

bad ground (I think). Anyway, I always “flew by the watch” for fueling. One busy summer day, working from a remote grass strip west of Americus, Georgia I pulled up from wiping an end and the engine quit, pretty much outright. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t make the “deadly 180 degree turn back to the airstrip”. Heck, I turned that Thrush 270 degrees and landed in the field I was spraying. I was really hacked at Jack because he insisted on running car gas. I thought the gas was bad. Wrong! Anyway, what really happened was I ran the aircraft out of fuel. I had “memorized” the wrong time on my watch, instead of writing it down. We were really busy, so I was lulled into thinking I had the right time when I was way off. I’ll never forget the look on Jack’s face when a farmer gave me a lift back to the strip. Even then, I thought it was bad gas. We put some more car gas in the aircraft and I flew it out of the peanut field (no damage) and went back to work. From that day on, I wrote down the tach’s and watch time and never believed the fuel gauges. That “policy” bit me a few years
later in Frank Bledsoe’s turbine Thrush. I was spraying King’s Bay Submarine Base for mosquitoes. I was writing down the fuel times and ignoring the gauges. No problem. Wrong, again! The left fuel tank had stopped up with silicone debris without me knowing it. I burned every drop out of the right tank and the aircraft quit just as the tail came up on takeoff. The Lord looks after fools, drunks and Bill Lavender. If it had not been for having to wait on the end of the runway for another aircraft to pick up an IFR clearance (about 10 minutes), I would have been in the trees when the aircraft ran out of fuel, instead of on the far end of the runway where I was able to stop the aircraft without incident. Oh well, such is the business of ag-flying. You can never be too careful and just when you think you have it all figured out, something else pops up and slaps you silly!—Bill

Rhythm and Blues Concerns about pilot fatigue have been in the news lately and, with the shorter days of winter fast approaching, it’s a
good time to review some basics about the human body’s circadian rhythm and its impact on aviation safety.
Circadian Rhythm Disruption Our circadian rhythm is an internal biological clock that regulates body functions based on our wake/sleep cycle. Clear patterns of brain-wave activity, hormone production, cell regeneration, and other biological activities are linked to these daily cycles. Scientists can’t explain precisely how the brain “keeps time,” but they do know that it relies on outside influences called zeitgebers (German for time givers). The most obvious zeitgeber is daylight.

Any interruption of the normal circadian rhythm will have physiological and behavioral impacts, known as circadian rhythm disruption (CRD). Shift
work, inherent in many aviation jobs, almost always causes CRD because the internal body clock is at odds with the shift schedule. Pilots suffering from CRD may experience difficulty falling and staying asleep, insomnia, daytime sleepiness, a general lack of energy in the morning, difficulty concentrating, oversleeping and trouble getting up, or increased negative moods. The most debilitating symptom of CRD is fatigue, which is a dangerous condition for any pilot attempting to operate an aircraft. Some of the undesired effects include increased reaction time, decreased attention, impaired memory, and emotional irritability. These, in turn, can lead to increased frequency and severity of errors during aircraft operations, increased frequency

of operational incidents, and (at a minimum) increased risk in aviation operations.
Resetting the Clock If you have fallen victim to CRD, it is imperative to reset your biological clock. There are two key actions you can take to accelerate this process. First, expose yourself to as much daylight as possible, because bright light helps reset circadian rhythms. In addition, light has a direct and positive affect by increasing brain serotonin levels. Second, be active! Do not let CRD-induced fatigue become a hindrance to aviation safety. For more information, take a look at the circadian rhythm information brochure at www.faa. gov/pilots/safety/pilotsafetybrochures/. Good health and safe flying! And, that’s the truth! This is in response to the young man (so I assume) from California who has spent the last two + years looking for an ag seat and who wrote a letter to AgAir Update against ag aviation schools. To begin with: what qualifications does he have to offer an operator? Why does he think the operators that he has talked to want to know if he has attended an ag flight school? His words, “Both operators and graduates agree the tuition is excessive.” Truth of the matter is: when I have a turbine transition student, the gross per hour for our turbine Thrush is less than it would gross flying typical custom application work. So, why do I teach if I could make more money strictly crop spraying? I have a degree in biology, with
a minor in education, but the bloody truth is I love teaching. I am doubly blessed because I get to teach the very thing that I love even more and that is ag flying! I would like to add that all of Flying Tiger Aviation’s (FTA) instructors are very conscientious about our flight training. I tell all of my students, if you really do well as an ag student, use FTA and me for a reference. If you did not do so well, maybe you should not use us for a reference. Also, we know a lot of operators throughout the country, especially in the South. I believe we have a good reputation. Of course, we do not “guarantee” a student will find a job and anybody that does guarantee an ag seat is either lying or conning the student.

Application Management is the easiest to use work order management program on the market.
Regarding my turbine course, I write a detailed critique of the student’s performance and I “call a spade a spade” as tactfully as I can. If I write a glowing critique, it most certainly will help you land a turbine seat, but only if one is available to begin with. Fact is, I have many operators call me when they are considering hiring a new pilot who has completed our school because they trust me to tell them the truth. In My Opinion, your chances of landing a good ag seat are much better if you have completed an ag aviation school. You will have spent a fraction of the time and money that you would have going four years to a university. Also, short of being a surgeon, CPA, or lawyer, you will make a lot more money in your first

five years of ag flying than you would in many other career fields. It is not uncommon for a good ag pilot with a good reputable firm to make $85,000 per annum and up. I began my ag aviation career flying a 220 HP Stearman; no battery, no generator, no starter (hand prop only), no nav lights, no electrics of any sort. I bought the airplane for $5,000 and yes, I taught myself to spray cotton with it (it also was the first tail wheel airplane I had flown). As Bill Lavender said in his response to the young “wanna be,” today’s new ag planes may be upwards of one million dollars and the insurance companies prefer that a pilot has attended a good ag aviation school. Why else would some insurance companies be willing to give a break on the premium? So lastly, I would like to say to the young man who wrote the letter to the editor, please reread what Bill Lavender had to say in his response. If this young man would like to visit Flying Tiger Aviation, or even talk to one of us on the phone, we’d be happy to accommodate him. As per always, be safe, have fun and make a lot of money!

NATA pursues nationwide marking of met towers As a result of several communications with Joe Miniace, FAA Central Region Administer, a letter written by Larry Schulze, NATA Communications Director to Miniace on September 12, 2010 was a subject of discussion between Miniace and FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt on Sept. 20 and 21, 2010. The letter presented the case about how dangerous unmarked met towers are to ag pilots, life flight crews, and their patients. The letter requested the FAA to adopt and require nationwide South Dakota’s rule (passed March 29, 2010) that established marking and identification measures of met towers. In the letter to the FAA, NATA presented its plan to write the Nebraska delegation and encourage their support for the FAA to require the South Dakota rule for met towers. Schulze and Miniace have been in regular communication by phone and email subsequently. NATA considers the South Dakota rule as ideal and has gone on record to support its adoption. After Miniace met with FAA Administrator Babbitt, he replied to Schulze and stated the Part 77 regulations will be updated regarding met tower marking and identification. Upon the revision of the Title 14 Part 77 regulation, the FAA “will write to the wind industry association as well as the largest players” (power companies) to inform them of the need to be aware of the updated regulations. At that point, Miniace stated, “With that comes responsibility”, which gives NATA the impression the wind industry will follow the FAA’s regulations. In the meantime, the FAA has not provided details on what the met tower marking requirements will be in the regulations. NATA is seeking those details. It also planning on writing members of the Nebraska Congressional delegation and urge their support of the FAA to require nationwide the South Dakota rule of the marking and identification of met towers. NATA has made significant steps in raising the awareness of the dangers of met towers and the need for a nationwide standard to mark and identify these towers. The FAA has
favorably responded to NATA and has recognized this need on a national basis to address the met tower hazard to safety of flight. The FAA is now in the process of considering a national standard about met tower identification. NATA is continuing its communications with the
FAA to further learn of the details of their intended regulatory changes in Title 14 Part 77. Editor’s Note; To read the letter written by NATA’s Communications Director Larry Schulze and the South Dakota ruling, visit agairupdate.com.

NAAA meets with FAA on marking met towers The NAAA met with representatives of the FAA’s Office of Chief Counsel (AGC) today in an effort to move the Agency forward in developing a policy to protect aerial applicators from unmarked or poorly marked meteorological towers and other poorly marked obstructions to lowlevel aviation. NAAA was represented by President Brian Rau, 2005 President Scott Schertz and Executive Director Andrew Moore. FAA representatives were Acting Chief Counsel James Whitlow, Assistant Chief Counsel for Regulations Rebecca MacPherson, and Senior Attorney Lorelei Peter. NAAA was informed by the Agency that a revision to rules regarding the marking of towers found within Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 77, would likely not be forthcoming from the Agency for the marking of towers under 200 feet. Moreover, Agency representatives
stated that even if towers under 200 feet were included within FAR Part 77 and the Agency made a hazard determination to a particular tower, it would not be binding. NAAA and the Agency discussed the potential of an advisory circular recommending certain marking specifications for towers under 200 feet. The Agency did not state that it would be finalizing such an advisory, but it did allude to one being under consideration. The Agency also stated that an advisory circular recommending marking specifications for towers under 200 feet would have nearly similar weighting in terms of legal liability as a change in FAR Part 77 to mark towers under 200 feet. NAAA urged the Agency to move forward on an advisory. It also recommended that it require more than just the marking of these towers with
aviation orange and white striped paint and strobe lighting. Rau and Schertz, based on their experience working around these meteorological towers, urged the Agency to recommend for towers above 50 feet the inclusion of high-visibility cable balls on these towers’ guy wires and sleeves on the outer guy wires from the anchor to well above the crop canopy. Additionally, the Agency was urged that it recommend frequent maintenance on these marking mechanisms to ensure their visibility and attachment to the wires. The Agency did state that if the advisory moves forward, an advisory draft would be made available in the Federal Register in which the public could comment. NAAA has already followed up with the Agency subsequent to the meeting and provided detailed aerial application statistics involving collisions with towers and wires in addition to contacts in the tower industry that have already moved forward with constructing towers with specifications similar to those suggested by the NAAA. With respect to current federal policy pertaining to the marking of towers, proponents of towers must file notice with the FAA if they propose construction or alteration that falls under 14 CFR 77.13. Paragraph (a)(1) of that section requires notice to be filed for any construction/ alteration of more than 200 feet AGL at its site. Once notice is filed with the FAA, the agency reviews the notice and subsequently issues a Determination of Hazard or a Determination of No Hazard. If the FAA determines during the study that marking and lighting is appropriate, the Determination of No Hazard may state that it is not a hazard subject to the structure being marked and lighted as specified in the Determination. The Determination of Hazard is therefore, conditioned on that stipulation. It is not a requirement per se to mark and light, it is a condition to the
Determination of No Hazard. A proponent may decide not to mark/light as specified in the Determination of No Hazard, but that then means that they have not met the conditions for which the determination is based on. The majority of local zoning/ permitting offices (and typically insurance companies) require a No Hazard Determination from the FAA to get the appropriate permits to build. NAAA wishes to acknowledge the great work the Nebraska Aviation Trades Association, the Minnesota Agricultural Aircraft Association, the Illinois Agricultural Aviation Association, the South Dakota Aviation Association and many other state and local agricultural aviation associations have done to vocalize this issue to their local FAA Regional Administrators. These efforts have moved FAA Headquarters to consider an advisory circular on tower marking for obstacles below 200 feet. This is a strong example of the effectiveness that local grassroots lobbying can have on influencing national policy. As more information comes forward on this issue, NAAA will report it to the membership via the e-Newsletter. This article was published with the permission from the National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA). To join NAAA visit www.agaviation.org or call NAAA at 202-546-5722. NAAA is the only national association representing the aerial application industry before the federal government and the national media. NAAA, through its sister agency the National Agricultural Aviation Research & Education Foundation, is also responsible for organizing the Professional Aerial Application Support System (PAASS), the national safety and stewardship program enhancing the professionalism and safety of the industry. www.ag-aviation.org

hands-on flying
Tracy Thurman thurmantracyt@yahoo.com
I just got off the phone with a pest control advisor, or PCA as they are known. He was setting up eighty acres of produce to spray and wanted to discuss the application. I appreciate these calls because they give me an opportunity to speak directly to
Communications are the keys to success the guy who is doing the leg work on the ground, many of whom have become good
friends over the years. One of the things that I find personally gratifying in this
occupation is the relationships that I get to build with really good people. As a pilot, I find establishing and maintaining a good rapport with those I fly for is an essential part of my job. We do custom applications and just about every field is different in some way. Having a good working relationship with the guys on the ground goes a long way in keeping things running smoothly. Many pilots I know feel it is not their job or their responsibility to talk to customers. I know a couple of operators who forbid their pilots having any contact at all with their customers. I’m sure they have their reasons. I think a pilot who is not open to communication with the people who send them work is missing out on an opportunity to connect with the big picture of our industry.
The man who is crawling and stomping around in fields all day needs to have confidence in the pilots who are doing his spraying.

Having a name and a face to put to the job is what brings the human element into the equation. The field rep needs to know the pilot is personally concerned with the results of his work. I’m not saying the pilot has to be a salesperson. It’s the operator who rounds up the business. He’s the guy that does the “schmoozing” and presses the flesh, so to speak. He expends considerable time, effort and expense in getting a grower’s work. The pilot might blow the whole deal in a second if he makes a mistake, but he’ll blow it for sure if he can’t be personable and approachable by the customer. People can forgive a mistake; they won’t forgive a lack of common

courtesy. A hired pilot is a representative of the operation he works for and should take that responsibility seriously. Of course, there are those who are just difficult to deal with. It seems there are always a few who believe the aerial applicator is in a position of servitude. We all have experienced that situation. I believe given the right circumstances and the right kind of tact, a pilot can still work with a person of question. In some cases, he might even bring them to understand better the requirements of our part of the job. It’s a touchy situation but not impossible. Sometimes though, you just have to leave it alone and do the best you can without making waves. I like to make a follow up call every now and then. It helps to “close the loop” and it’s an opportunity to connect with the PCA to find out if I’m missing anything, or if I’m doing everything to suit him. Sometimes a PCA will find a problem but won’t mention it until there is damage to the crop. You can bet that you’ll hear about it then. It’s also good to give him/her the opportunity to say, “Hey…great job!” It’s rare for them to go to the effort of calling when there is not a problem. Having a good open line of communication and a good relationship
with the PCA helps both of us to get the best results possible. We work better when we work together. Communication is the key to success. There are several links in the chain of events that gets a crop from planting to harvest. Our job is only a portion of the process. Staying informed of the grower’s concerns, or the needs of the PCA, are important to do good work. Agriculture is a relatively small community and the good ole boy network is a big part of it. That’s not a bad thing, just the way it is. A person’s reputation generally precedes him in just about everything he does. When you’re talking about the quality of work an ag pilot does or the type of person he is, it carries weight. I have had PCAs call me with questions and sometimes just to chat. I’ve had recent calls when I was able to dispel some falsehoods that were being passed by someone who was trying to sabotage me personally. I’m glad I am able to speak plain English with these folks and that they are comfortable with picking up the phone or visiting in person at any time, for any reason. I have confidence in them and they have confidence in me. That just seems to make things easier and the world turn a little better.

Are you taking advantage of the Agricultural Chemicals Security Tax Credit? The information below is for informational purposes only as a courtesy of AgAir Update and other sources. The determination of your company’s ability to claim the credit must be made by your company’s tax advisors. You should consult your company’s tax advisors for any information regarding eligibility for the credit. 1. What is the agricultural chemicals security tax credit? The new agricultural chemicals security tax credit is a nonrefundable 30% federal income tax credit for qualified chemical security expenditures incurred by eligible agricultural businesses to protect fertilizer and pesticides located at their business facilities. The tax credit is designed to encourage agricultural businesses to incur certain costs to safeguard agricultural pesticides and fertilizers from the threat of terrorists, drug dealers and other criminals by providing an income tax credit that offsets a portion of the expenditure.
2. Who can claim the credit? Any eligible agricultural business that paid or incurred security costs to safeguard qualified agricultural chemicals after May 22, 2008, and before January 1, 2013. 3. Who is an eligible agricultural business? An eligible agricultural business is one that: Sells agricultural products, including specified agricultural chemicals, at retail predominantly to farmers and ranchers; or Manufactures, formulates, distributes, or aerially applies specified agricultural chemicals.1 4. What are specified agricultural chemicals? Specified agricultural chemicals include: certain types of fertilizer commonly used in agricultural operations, certain types of pesticides. 5. What types of expenditures qualify for the credit? Qualified expenditures include amounts paid or incurred by an eligible agricultural business for the purpose
of protecting the specified agricultural chemicals located at their business facilities, including: employee security training and background checks, limitation and prevention of access to controls of specified agricultural chemicals stored at a facility, 1 I.R.C. § 45O(e). 2 I.R.C. § 45O(d). Tagging, locking tank valves and chemical additives to prevent the theft of specified agricultural chemicals or to render such chemicals unfit for illegal use, protection of the perimeter of specified agricultural chemicals, installation of security lighting, cameras, recording equipment, and intrusion detection sensors, implementation of measures to increase computer or computer network security, conducting a security vulnerable assessment, implementing a site security plan, and other measures provided for by regulation. 6. Are there limitations on the amount of the credit that can be claimed? Two limitations apply to the amount of the credit that can be claimed by
Dallas • Hyannis • Pittsburgh
a taxpayer for expenditures incurred to secure their business facilities: A $100,000 per facility aggregate credit limitation. An annual $2,000,000 credit limitation for all facilities. 7. What is the impact of claiming the tax credit on any tax deductions for qualified agricultural chemicals security costs? The taxpayer cannot claim a tax deduction for the amount of the expenditure that qualifies for the credit. The taxpayer’s deduction for agricultural chemicals security costs is reduced by the amount of the agricultural chemicals security credit. 8. Why is a tax credit more beneficial than a tax deduction? Tax credits result in a dollar for dollar reduction in the amount of tax owed by the taxpayer whereas a tax deduction only reduces taxable income subject to tax. 9. Can unused portions of the agricultural chemicals security tax credit be carried forward to future years or carried back to prior years? As part of a general business credit, the agricultural chemicals security tax credit can be carried back one year and carried forward 20 years. However,

no unused portion of the credit can be carried back to any tax year before the tax credit was effective. Since the agricultural chemicals security tax credit became effective on May 23, 2008, unused credits cannot be carried back to a tax year that ends before May 23, 2008. 10. How does the credit apply to a member of a controlled group or business under common control? For purposes of calculating the credit, all members of a controlled group of corporations and all members of a group of businesses under common
control are treated as a single taxpayer. The member of the controlled group or business must calculate its credit using only its proportionate share of the $100,000 aggregate facility limit and the $2,000,000 annual limit. 11. How is the tax credit claimed? The tax credit is claimed on a taxpayer’s U.S. federal income tax return by completing and filing IRS Form 8931 (Agricultural Chemicals Security Credit). Form 8931 contains additional filing instructions.

ten years ago Queen Bee Air Specialties drawing a line
by Bill Lavender WEST VIRGINIA — Thoughts of fire fighting with SEATs (Single Engine Air Tankers) would usually include the western states, or maybe Spain or Chile. But, it has become common knowledge that there are fire fighting programs
in the northeastern United States, as well. Although these programs are not as extensive as those elsewhere, nonetheless, they are important. After an invitation from Chuck Kemper of Queen Bee Air Specialties, I made a
short trip north to Beckley and Login, West Virginia to see how their fire fighting contract was coming along. You don’t hear much, or anything really, in the news about aerial fire fighting for West Virginia. Mainly because the fires are leaf drop and litter fires. Typically, these fires aren’t life and structure threatening, at least not to the degree to the blazes that erupt in the western states. However, these fires do have that potential and do create a lot of smoke problems (IFR conditions). Unfortunately, the fires are primarily caused through negligence or arson. Of its three Air Tractor AT-802 fire fighting fleet, Queen Bee Air Specialties has two stationed in West Virginia, one in Beckley and another about 30 miles to the west at Login. Each aircraft works separately managing fire calls in its area, although they can help each other if needed on this state contract. The contract calls for a 30-day period in the spring and another 30-day period in the fall, during the fire seasons. The contractor has the option to extend the contract if necessary. It is a three-year contract, with Queen Bee Air Specialties completing their first full year and beginning their second this fall. The state of West Virginia is having a difficult time managing its fires. It is new to the SEATs approach to fire fighting and is just learning of the advantages

Mike Walker, retired USAir captain, pens his logbook with AT-802 time in Login, West Virginia. Take a look at his artwork, not officially approved by Queen Bee Air Specialties, it’s Mike’s idea of getting the fire out no matter how.
SEATs offers. The southern region of the state is heavily wooded in mountainous terrain. Sparsely populated, the area is sprinkled with small towns, outposts and mining installations. 1999 has been a dry year, adding to the problems of the geography, along with a limited state budget to control the fires. The state has a limited number of personnel it can assign to fire duty in the woods, whose primary training has been for structure fires. Compared to most fire fighting efforts in other parts of the world, a different approach is used in West Virginia. Due
to limited personnel, funding and the nature of the fires, they are allowed to burn longer than what might be considered normal. Once the fire reaches a threshold where a small crew can no longer manage it, then the AT-802 is called upon. However, because of budget constraints, the AT-802 may be limited to only a short series of drops. If the fire cannot be brought under control with these drops, then the fire is allowed to burn itself out. The ground crew draws “cat” lines (fire breaks made with Caterpillar-type bulldozers). This might mean pulling the line downwind from
Bill Schreiner makes one of a series of drops on a typical fire 35 miles south of Beckley. One of the fortes of the AT-802 is its ability to ferry, loaded, to the fire at a relatively high airspeed.

(L-R) Ground crewman, Phil Utt, and AT-802 pilot, Bill Schreiner, by Queen Bee Air Specialties’ mix trailer. The operation has a 1600 gallon poly tank on the trailer with gas-powered pump, while loading the aircraft from a second unit on the ground that pulls water from two 2,100 gallon poly tanks. the fire a few hundred yards, as well as circling structures and then wetting down the fire line. Because these fires are primarily leaf drop and litter fires, they usually don’t burn the hard woods, but do have the potential. Bill Schreiner, pilot for the Beckley AT-802 is originally from Arizona. After many years of fighting fires in the desert southwest, he explains that fighting fires in West Virginia is far more difficult.
Although there is never a shortage of power from the PT6A-65, since the density altitude never becomes critical, the approach to the drop is where the difficulty arises. “The number one rule in fire fighting is to have your departure route planned before the drop, “ Bill explains. There is usually a canyon, valley or some place to escape fire fighting in the west, even with the large mountainous terrain, the valleys and
canyons are large as well. But, in West Virginia the mountains are only 3,0004,000 feet, and the canyons and valleys are better described as ravines that can easily box-in a pilot. This limits the pilot to making a drop 50-100 feet above the ground. With leaf drop and litter fires, the drop height is measured from the ground up. Mike Walker pilots the AT-802 from Login, a 3500-foot strip on a mountain top. The public airport was once a mining area, stripping off the top of the mountain. After the mining was finished, the county built a paved runway. Surrounded by mountains in an IFRsmoky environment, working the AT-802 can be a challenge, returning with a load is not an option. Mike is a retired USAir internationalroute captain. Oddly enough, before Chuck Kemper’s entry into the aerial application business, when he was a school teacher, Mike was one of his students! Now, who knows how many years later, Chuck is once again the teacher and Mike the student. With many hours giving tail wheel instruction, and of course his airline time, Mike opted out with an early retirement from USAir and now pilots one of Queen Bee
Air Specialties’ AT-802s fire fighting. Mike made a couple of interesting comments about his transition from heavy iron to heavy aluminum. “I just couldn’t seem to get the landings right. Then, one night at the hotel room, the light bulb (in my head) came on. I told Chip (Kemper) the next morning I had the aircraft; everything was under control. Chip told me to go give the 802 another whirl. I was able to land it perfectly. You see, I hadn’t allowed for that long, down sloping nose. Once I quit staring down it, I was able to land the 802, although every now and then, it likes to go for a little ride down the runway,” Mike explained about his experience. Both of the AT-802s are outfitted with the Air Tractor fire bombing gate and computer control system. Each load is a full 800 gallons of water mixed with a Class A foaming agent. Because of the terrain forcing the drops to be from a higher altitude than normal, the foam to water ratio is less, more to the water side, to help control drift (4-5 gallons/.1-.5%). Yes, even fire fighters are concerned with drift! When the “alarm” comes via a radio call, Mike and Bill are less than 15 minutes, usually 10 minutes, out of

mountains is a horse of a different color, compared to western U.S. operations. But, the need for SEATs is just as important, if not more so. With a limited budget, but a sincere desire to control their fires, states like West Virginia now have a new and effective tool when utilizing the SEAT approach to fighting forest fires. Without question, the Air Tractor AT-802 has fit into this aerial role and has been very successful, helping to expand the operating parameters of today’s ag aviation operation.

ntsb reports NTSB Identification: *WPR10WA460* Date: September 14, 2010 Location: Geraldton Aerodrome, Australia, Australia Aircraft: CESSNA 188 Injuries: 1 Fatal. On September 14, 2010, at 0745 universal coordinated time, a Cessna 188 Agwagon collided with terrain during takeoff for an aerial application flight near Geraldton Aerodrome, Australia. The pilot was killed and the airplane substantially damaged. NTSB Identification: *CEN10CA553* Date: September 21, 2010 Location: Blessing, TX Aircraft: Ag-Cat G-164B, Injuries: 1 Serious. flight to a cotton field. While applying the applicant, the pilot lost awareness of his proximity to obstacles and collided with a transmission wire. The wire damaged the airplane’s vertical fin and rudder, and the pilot subsequently lost control of the airplane. The airplane then impacted a small body of water. NTSB Identification: *WPR10CA470* Date: September 25, 2010 Location: Gaston, OR Aircraft: BELL 47G Injuries: 1 Uninjured. The pilot reported that he completed his last forest spray application for the day, and was landing on the trailer used for transporting the helicopter. He stated that he placed the landing skids on the trailer and lowered the collective to the full down position. The helicopter abruptly tilted aft on the skid heals, and he applied up collective. The helicopter started to rotate to the right, and he was

unable to counter the rotation with the left anti torque pedal. The pilot closed the throttle as the helicopter rotated 180 degrees to the right. The helicopter then contacted the side of the trailer, and came to a full stop. The engine was not running at this point, so he shut off the battery master switch, and disconnected the battery to avoid potential ignition of any fuel. The pilot reported that the trailer was parked on an uneven surface with the up side at the tail of the helicopter. He thought that the slope and his abrupt movement of the collective resulted in the tail rotor coming into contact with the trailer deck. The pilot also felt that the accident could have been avoided if the trailer were on level terrain, and he had waited to lower the collective until after establishing positive and complete full landing skid gear contact with the surface of the trailer. The pilot reported no mechanical failures or malfunctions with the helicopter.
NTSB Identification: *ERA11LA011* Date: October 01, 2010 Location: Edison, GA Aircraft: GRUMMAN G164 Injuries: 1 Uninjured. A Grumman G-164B was substantially damaged following a runway excursion during landing at a private airfield in Edison, Georgia. The pilot was not injured. The pilot stated that during the flight, when he applied rudder pedal during turns, he could feel the right pedal getting “soft.” He stated that the left pedal felt “fine.” He returned to the airport at the conclusion of the flight and just after touchdown, the airplane “veered left” and departed the runway. The airplane’s wings sustained substantial damage. The right brake master cylinder and calipers were retained and examination was scheduled for a later date. According to FAA records, the airplane was manufactured in 1976. The

airplane’s maintenance records were not immediately available for review; however, the pilot reported to that the most recent annual inspection was conducted in March 2010. According to the pilot, the airplane experienced a right brake failure during landing approximately one year prior, but the pilot was able to maintain control of the airplane and there was no damage. Subsequent inspection of the right brake master cylinder revealed a worn o-ring. The 1639 weather observation at Blakely, GA, located approx. 13 nautical miles southwest of the accident location, included winds from 320° at 3 knots, 10 statute miles visibility, a scattered cloud layer at 7,500’, temperature 28°C, dew point 12°C, and an altimeter setting of 29.79” of mercury.
forced landing. During the landing, the airplane received major structural damage. A post-accident examination of the engine revealed that a cylinder on the radial engine was cracked resulting in the loss of engine power. No other anomalies with the airplane were found. After what appeared to be a signal from the ground crew that it was safe to depart, the pilot lifted the helicopter off the trailer only to find that the fuel hose was still attached. The helicopter rolled over to the right and the main rotor blade impacted the ground and one of the ground crew members. The helicopter came to rest on its right side and the pilot was able to exit unassisted. The ground crew member was airlifted to a hospital.

Preparing aircraft budgets It’s time to give priority to preparing budgets for next year as well as quickly reviewing this year so any final decisions that will impact taxes can be made before the end of the year. Tabulate all 2010 expenses. Review the expenses on each aircraft over the last several years. Identify any large upcoming cash requirements or expenses (aircraft improvements, overhauls, special inspections, etc.) for each aircraft. Will additional capital be required to pay any large expenditure? Project the normal annual fixed expenses as well as the hourly operating expenses. Be especially careful to adjust expenses that might change significantly. Examples could be fuel or increased aircraft maintenance expenses due to aircraft being out of warranty or just being an older aircraft. Separate the aircraft expense
categories into annual fixed expenses, variable expenses that vary with flying hours, and extraordinary expenses that occurred due to aircraft improvements, overhauls, special inspections, or other expenses that don’t occur every year. Assign each extraordinary expense to an annual fixed or variable hourly expense. Prorate each expense and assign an annual fixed or variable hourly expense amount as appropriate so future expenses can be estimated. The key to survival is meeting the cash flow requirements of your business. For the commercial aircraft operator, this means evaluating the financials of each aircraft in the operation. Concentrate on your cash flow and the calculation of Return on Investment (ROI). Prepare budgets and financial plans for each aircraft in your fleet. Concentrate on projecting cash flow before and after tax for the next

five years. If the aircraft is financed, include the interest and principal paid during each year. Include the depreciation that will be claimed on your tax return for each of the upcoming years. Your tax benefits will depend upon your average federal and state tax rates for each year. At the completion of your budget process, you should know the aftertax cash flow for the next five years for the continued operation of the aircraft being analyzed. Compare the cash flow of keeping your current aircraft with the cash flow of trading for a replacement aircraft at different years based upon your projected expenses and out-of-service time for accomplishing major maintenance. The timing of an aircraft trade or current aircraft improvement decisions can have a significant impact on your after-tax cash flow for a particular
year. Evaluate your situation while there is time remaining to make decisions on equipment changes and performing major improvements on existing equipment before the end of the tax year. By evaluating your current business year and preparing your budget now, you might be able to change your timing on items that will help you receive additional tax deductions. Having the correct tools to reduce your planning time is something you should consider. The AircraftCostAnalysis program can be used to prepare precise annual budgets and evaluate the aftertax cash flow of many different scenarios. wing and a prayer
No condemnation from God and Jesus Christ Paul wrote, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). There are some who believe that a Christian can lose their salvation by committing certain sins. But if a person is truly a born again Christian, they are “in Christ Jesus,” they are a part of the body of Jesus Christ—which is the church. For God to condemn a Christian would be like God condemning Jesus Christ. Paul tells us that in Jesus Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily and that every Christian is complete in Jesus Christ, who is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:9-10). God has made every Christian spiritually and eternally
alive in Christ Jesus, having forgiven every Christian all their trespasses and sins, and taken the Law out of the way and nailed it to His Cross (Colossians 2:13-14). Jesus said He would build His church and the gates of hell couldn’t prevail against it (Matthew 16:18). Peter said that a Christian’s eternal salvation and eternal inheritance are kept by the power of God (1 Peter 1:3-10). “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death” (Romans 8:2). What is the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus? This is the gospel of Jesus Christ; this is the grace of God toward every one puts their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord
and Savior. This is when the Holy Spirit is given to every believer. “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians 1:13-14). “Neither death nor life no principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-29). Jesus said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37). The eternal life of a Christian is
eternally secure in the hands of Jesus Christ. “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death” (Romans 8:2). What is the law of sin and death? It is the Ten Commandments, and all the other Mosaic Laws that are written in the Old Testament. All the Mosaic Law could do for humanity is show us how guilty we are before God (Romans 3:19-20). Under the Law of Moses, if a person broke the Sabbath Law, the adultery law, or any of the other Mosaic Laws, the penalty was judgment, condemnation or death. Jesus lived a sinless life, totally fulfilling the requirements of the Mosaic Law. Jesus

suffered and died on the Cross for the sins of the world (John 1:29), and arose again three days later. Jesus totally fulfilled all the Old Testament Laws and the punishment that went with them. Jesus said, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17). Jesus Christ is the end of the Law for everyone who believes in Him (Romans 10:4). People who are controlled by the Holy Spirit are not under the Law (read Galatians 5:18, 1 Timothy 1:3-11). “For what the Law could not do, because it was weak through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh” (Romans 8:3). What does “He condemned sin in the flesh” mean? Jesus was beaten by Roman guards and then scourged with a whip to the point of being almost unrecognizable, and then a crown of thorns was place on His head, disfiguring his head even more (Luke 22:63-65, John 19:1-3). Jesus suffered the humiliation of being stripped of all his clothes (John 19:23), and then He was nailed to a Cross of wood fulfilling the Law’s requirement
that anyone worthy of death was to be hung on a tree (Deuteronomy 21:22). The reason Jesus was worthy of death is because he took the sins of humanity on Himself. Jesus fulfilled the Law’s punishment for sin upon His own sinless flesh. By His Death and resurrection Jesus “condemned sin in the flesh” (read Isaiah 53). “All things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ… For God made Jesus, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (1 Corinthians 5:18, 21).
God looks upon all Christians as if they are as righteous as Jesus Christ! Not only are all the sins, past, present and future, of every Christian forgiven; God has also received all Christians as His own children. Do you think that God is going to kick one of His own children out of His kingdom? What foolish thought! It was God who loved the
world so much that He gave His Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God constantly praying for every Christian (Romans 8:34). The apostle John wrote, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God” (1 John 3:1). Even though the Holy Spirit lives in every Christian, we still live in a fleshly body that is sinful. Paul said that our sinful flesh is constantly fighting against the Holy Spirit that indwells us, so that we don’t always do the things that please God (Galatians 5:17). A Christian’s sinful flesh can cause them many earthly problems, and cause God to discipline them (Hebrews 12:4-11), but from an eternal perspective, the sins of every Christian, past, present and future, were put on Jesus Christ. Jesus has set us free to serve and worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. God’s gifts and calling are guaranteed for all eternity (Romans 11:29).

Sky Tractor Supply Company named authorized service center for GE’s M601 and H80 engines EVENDALE, OHIO—Sky Tractor Supply Company has signed an agreement with GE Aviation to become an Authorized Service Center for the M601 and H80 turboprop engines. As part of the agreement, Sky Tractor Supply Company will offer comprehensive line maintenance, removals and re-installations of engines and LRUs and engine spares for the M601 and H80 engine families. GE Aviation will provide Sky Tractor with comprehensive material support and training. “Sky Tractor Supply Company is a well-known service provider with a history that dates back more than 40 years,” said Paul Theofan, president and managing executive of GE Aviation’s Business and General Aviation Turboprops. “With Sky Tractor as an
authorized service center, GE Aviation can better support its M601 and future H80 operators in North America.”
Established in 1969, Sky Tractor Supply Company is located in Hillsboro, North Dakota. The company provides a variety of aircraft equipment parts, supplies and services, including a full service fixed base operation (FBO), agricultural aircraft parts, sales and maintenance, and professional aerial application equipment.
GE Aviation’s Business & General Aviation Turboprops has more than 1,600 M601 engines in service that have accumulated a more than 17 million flight hours on 30 applications. The H80 engine is undergoing certification testing and will power business and general aviation, utility and agriculture aircraft. The H80 engine combines the elegant, robust design of the M601 engine with GE’s 3-D aerodynamic design techniques and advanced materials to create a more powerful, fuel-efficient, durable engine compared with the M601 engine, with no recurrent fuel nozzle inspections and no hot section inspection. The H80 engine will also feature an extended service life of 3,600 flight-hours or 6,600 cycles between overhauls, significantly enhanced hot-day takeoff
performance and high-altitude cruise speeds. The H80 will provide the option of a single- or dual-acting governor, allowing customers flexibility in propeller selection. The engine will power the Thrush 510 aircraft. GE Aviation, an operating unit of GE (NYSE: GE), is a world-leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft. GE Aviation has a global service network to support these offerings. For more information, visit us at www.ge.com/aviation. From banks to cockpits in Brazil by Bill Lavender In the competitive business of “crop dusting”, it doesn’t hurt to have a good financial background, and it helps even more if your business partner/ wife shares that knowledge. Such is the husband and wife team of Neusa and Marcos Antonio Camargo, who operate five Ipanemas and a new AT-402B Air Tractor. Neusa and Camargo are owners of ITAGRO, based in Alegrete, Rio Grande do Sul Brazil. Camargo’s first flying lesson was at the age of 16. Money became tight forcing Camargo to postpone further flight training until later in life. Camargo would work at night at the bank and flight instruct during the day to log time and gain flight experience in preparation for his ultimate goal - becoming an ag pilot. Neusa also worked at the bank. In 1988, Camargo decided to attend an agricultural aviation flight school, Sorocaba CAVAG, where he learned to fly ag-aircraft. After Camargo completed the CAVAG course, his first flying job was working
Vagner, Luciano, Marcos Antonio Camargo and Tito. Tito is a 15-year veteran pilot with ITAGRO and one of six company pilots. for Aero Agricola Santos Dumont (AASD) in Alegrete where he flew for three years. In 1994, Camargo and Neusa formed ITAGRO using a 1982 Ipanema 201A. ITAGRO prospered allowing Neusa and Camargo to quit their banking jobs. In
2004, the company bought three new Ipanemas, a fourth new one in 2005 and a new alcohol version of the Ipanema in 2009 for a total of five aircraft. In December of 2009, ITAGRO bought a new AT-402B with a PT6A-15AG engine
from DP Aviacion, the Brazilian Air Tractor representative for the United States Air Tractor dealer, Frost Flying Service. The purchase included a Hemisphere GPS with flow control. All ITAGRO aircraft have M3 Satloc/Hemisphere GPS units. The AT-402B is the first turbine ITAGRO has owned. Camargo believes the turbinepowered aircraft will help his company in many ways; reliability, productivity and a reduction in remote airstrips. There are three ag-aviation companies in the Alegrete area. They operate from over 200 airstrips. Camargo believes a transition to turbine Air Tractors will reduce the number of remote strips needed by ITAGRO, while at the same time reducing the problems associated with operating from remote airstrips. With turbine-powered ag-aircraft, he believes the 200 airstrips could be reduced substancially. ITAGRO works in a 70-kilometer radius (about 40 miles) in every direction from its main base in Alegrete. ITAGRO primarily treats rice along with some soybeans and corn.

The boom can be rotated while in flight with hydraulic-type nozzles, adjusting the droplet size to accommodate meteorological conditions during the application. Of the more than 100,000 hectares (250,000 acres) treated annually by ITAGRO, approximately 40,000 hectares (100,000 acres) are treated with an
adjuvant added to the spray mix. The use of adjuvants is determined by weather; humidity, temperature and wind. Typically, the customer decides whether to use an adjuvant, except for herbicide applications when ITAGRO makes the decision and charges an extra fee for the adjuvant. For dry work, ITAGRO uses the Swathmaster spreader, manufactured by
Neusa and Camargo in the ITAGRO hangar in Alegrete. Camargo recently attended the Air Tractor simulator course hosted by Central Florida Ag Aero in Orlando, Florida, as well as visiting the Air Tractor factory in Olney, Texas and Lane Aviation in Rosenberg, Texas as part of a group tour hosted by AeroGlobo of Botucatu, Brazil and in preparation for the delivery of ITAGRO’s new AT-402B Air Tractor. The AeroGlobo tour also included a visit to the Oshkosh Air Venture. For fungicide and insecticides applications, ITAGRO uses eight Micronaire AU5000 rotary atomizers per Ipanema applying 10-20 liters per hectare (2 gal/acre). The Micronaires allow for an 18-20 meters (60-65 feet) swath. For
herbicide (glyphosate) work, the aircraft’s spray systems are changed to CP Products nozzles applying 10-20 liters per hectare using a 15 -16 meters swath. ITAGRO will be evaluating the new, rotating boom manufactured by Travicar.

Transland. It is capable of applying 50150 kilograms of 45% urea fertilizer with a 25-meter swath for 50-kilogram (110 pounds) applications. For applying 150 kilograms (330 pounds), the application is flown twice using a 22-meter swath applying 75 kilograms (165 pounds) with each swath. When seeds are applied, the rate is typically 30 kilograms per hectare. (27 lbs/acre)The type and density of the seed determines the swath width. Neusa and Camargo manage a first class operation with major plans for the future. Over the next four to five years, ITAGRO wants to replace its Ipanema fleet with turbine Air Tractors. It has already began the transition buying its first AT-402B. By doing so, ITAGRO hopes to set an example for other Brazilian ag-operations to follow.

New Zealand global position system proving to be popular with operators Mosgiel, New Zealand—TracMap is a relatively new boy on the block. Most AgAir Update readers will not have heard of it. However, it is growing Down Under in New Zealand, quickly in Australia and now establishing in North America. The units have a deserved reputation for reliability and being easy to use. Established in 2005, TracMap quickly became the number one brand for ground-based units in New Zealand, where over 60% of all fertilizer spreading trucks now run the TracMap system. The reason for their rapid growth - the same thing that is important to pilots - easy to use and reliability. TracMap has now developed an aviation guidance system based on the same rugged hardware used in the trucks and ATV quad bikes on farms in New Zealand. As anyone who has travelled there knows, it is tough country which is hard on gear. TracMap has now become the standard GPS fit for all new aircraft installs in New Zealand.
In North America, TracMap has been quietly building a dealer network and customer base. As company President Colin Brown says. “We wanted to make sure we had the product right first. We used feedback from our early customers to make changes to suit what pilots want and how they operate.” Some of these features are unique to TracMap, such as ability to configure and store different menus for different types of jobs and the ability to have multiple baselines when flying small fields. Another unique feature proving popular is the ability to draw a block outline, or create a waypoint in Google Earth and import it directly into the TracMap unit. “This makes finding the correct field a lot simpler”, says Colin. “Most people these days have Google Earth on their computer and it easy to get them to mark the fields they want treated and email directly to the operator.” The result has met high approval by all TracMap’s initial customers. “The
feedback we have had from customers has been great. They like how easy TracMap is to use and the support we
have provided through our distributors for any problems they may have had”, said Colin.

Aerial bait dropping a TracMap speciality
TracMap unit in use on a dairy farm
Our System Surpasses all others The ONLY system with... Fuel Level Control FAA & BLM Approval Automatic Shut Off & Pressure Control As a Factory option on new Thrush Aircraft
TCL’s SPF System increases profitability and safety for your business!
TracMap’s first customer in New Zealand for its aviation product was Heli Otago, based out of Otago on the South Island. Heli Otago is one of the few world experts in aerial bait dropping for predator control. As a consequence, TracMap contains a number of unique features which make it ideally suited for aerial bait application in mountainous country. Also, one of tne of the early high profile purchasers of TracMap units was Island Conservation, who used them for the successful rat eradication program in the Aleutian Islands in 2008. The same units are in use again this fall for a similar program on the Galapagos Islands. The Australian government used TracMap recently for a rat control program on Macquarie Island in the sub-antarctic. The units are scheduled for use in a fiveyear program on South Georgia in the South Atlantic.
TracMap unit in use on Rat Island
Not surprisingly, reliability, and the ability to load complex shape files are two of the main factors why TracMap units are preferred for these type of operations. A more recent innovation has been the development of cluster baiting, where the guidance system manages the spaced placement of a cluster of bait pellets, rather than the conventional broadcast approach. The benefit from trial work to date is the ability to considerably reduce the amount of bait used yet achieve similar kill rates.

The aircraft were sold by AeroGlobo, Lane Aviation’s Brazilian Air Tractor representative. Each of the aircraft were outfitted with ferry radio packs and hopper fuel systems. Before departure from Texas, the wing tanks of the AT-502Bs and 475 gallons in the hopper were filled with Jet-A. The only instruments onboard were needle and ball, airspeed indicator, altimeter and GPS. The planned route will take the three aircraft and their pilots from Texas to Florida to Aguadilla Puerto Rico, to Boa Vista Brazil, with two aircraft continuing on to Cuiaba and the third to Salvador, Brazil. The flight should take about 30 tach hours and the fuel consumed will be about 1,400 gallons. The ferry pilots are Gerald Childers, Ken Elliott and Ray Dyson. AT-602: Raise the bar for productivity. You’ll reduce your overhead and increase profit margins when you scale a multi-plane operation down to a single-plane operation. The Air Tractor AT-602 can make that a very practical choice. Its big 630-gallon payload moves you up to economical, high volume production with one plane; reducing loads, saving time and cutting operating expenses compared with two smaller planes. For 5-gallon work on center-pivot circles the AT-602 is the ideal solution. Find out all the advantages of the AT-602. Visit your Air Tractor dealer.

AT-802: Power that creates profits. An 800-gallon hopper, up to 190 mph ferry speeds, and greater working capacity than any other ag airplane on the market - what else is on your wish list? With the AT-802 you’ll ferry faster, stay on the spray site longer and do bigger jobs all in one load. That’s a major advantage that only Air Tractor can offer you. Talk to your Air Tractor dealer about the AT-802. And when you do, ask about special Air Tractor financing now available from Wells Fargo for qualified buyers.
