Gets dark quick in California It is not often that I like to admit to making a mistake, particularly a big one. It happens to everyone, sooner or later, I suppose. From this page, hardly a month goes by that I don’t ask readers to think safety with all kinds of catchy ways to promote safety. Then, I fall prey against my own advice. This was a recent event, last October. I was rushing from Georgia to California trying to make it to Tulare in one day in time to make the second evaluation flight of the Ultra Thrush at Johnston Air Service. When I booked the flight, I was thinking in Georgia daylight hours with a sunset of around 7:00 p.m. After the flight was booked and I was committed, I realized the sunset for that day in Tulare would be 6:14 p.m. Not good. I arrived at Johnston Air Service after driving from Fresno at 5:15 p.m. Thankfully, Dave Johnston had the Ultra Thrush fully fueled and the requested 250 gallons in the hopper. I was familiar with the aircraft from an evaluation flight earlier in the summer. But, I still wanted that first load to be an easy one. The difference in this flight and the one in June would be the now installed four-blade Hartzell propeller compared to the threeblade Avia propeller the aircraft had before (see AAU December 2017) None of that matters, as it relates to this story. What matters is the first link in the chain of events before a disaster had already started; miscalculating the sunset time. No problem with the first load. All went well. I returned for the full, hopper-running-over load. Second link in the chain; the hopper would have to be filled with two 5/8” water hoses. Daylight was slipping by really fast. Here’s where I should have stopped the forthcoming chain of events. It would have been inconvenient to put off the flight until Saturday morning for multiple reasons, but it

could have been done and would have been better than what followed. With the aircraft fully loaded and about 30 minutes of fuel burned off, I departed Tulare’s Mefford Field airport at 6:25 p.m. The evaluation area is limited near Mefford Field due to dairy farms. I didn’t need to be turning over the top of those barns and feedlots. So, this took me longer and further away from Mefford Airport than I would have liked. By the time I finished working the load, it was dark. Dark, like in black dark. Lots of city lights and lots of black holes. Another link in the chain; I was not briefed on the inop radio and the airport lights were not on, nor was the rotating beacon, that I could see. I blame only myself. I’ve been flying these things for over 40 years. I should have known better. To complicate things more, the GPS system was screen-locked bright and I simply could not figure out how to turn the darn thing off, causing a degree of night blindness. I had to ignore it. After at least 30 minutes looking for the airport, it’s almost 7:30 p.m. and I have no clue where the runway is. I see the main highway and its traffic, but no runway, just dark holes. I booted up my iPhone and opened my Waze app. I had used it to drive down from Fresno, so Mefford Airport was already in the Recents. I clicked on it. I was 4.8 miles past the airport to the northeast. It would have been funny any other time, but Waze was challenged trying to route me down roads at 120 MPH (I was slowed looking for the runway). Did I mention my low battery icon came on when I booted up my Waze app? The first time I saw the runway, I was crossing over it at mid-field. I made a counterclockwise circle to land and lined up on where I thought the runway should be. No landing lights, just

the pulse lights which don’t help unless you are pointed down toward the ground. I flew over the runway, went missed. This time I made a clockwise turn keeping what I felt like was the runway in view and planted that Thrush on it before I lost it a third time. Actually, I was able to turn off at the first taxiway, which I thought was pretty good considering I nearly busted my buns. Yes, there was a Plan B, even while all this seemed to disintegrating. I had plenty of fuel. If I couldn’t find the runway, Plan B was to climb until I could locate a rotating beacon. The problem with that, it would probably be a controlled field and I would have a lot of explaining to do upon landing without a radio, map or transponder. But, better than any other alternative. I’m sure after this confession, there will be lots of armchair quarterbacking. All I can say is, “You should have been there.” As I look back over it, I thank the good Lord for getting me back on terra firma and I know I’ve learned a heck of a lot about “chain of events”. Even those of us who “think” we got this, we ain’t always got it! In closing, I would like to thank the industry for recognizing my efforts in ag-aviation over the past 43 years at the 2017 NAAA AgAviation Expo in Savannah by being inducted into the National Agricultural Aviation Hall of Fame based in Jackson, Mississippi. I am humbled to be considered worthy to join this small group of distinguished ag aviation hall of famers. However, it wasn’t all me. Sandy, my wife, has been by my side the entire time. And, both of my children, Casey and Graham, have contributed greatly to the success of AgAir Update. Thank you. Until next month, Keep Turning…

agair mail GRITTED TEETH Howdy Bill; I read your ‘From the Cockpit’ editorial and the subject article with gritted teeth. The event in Argentina is a bell toll sounding the beginning of the next chapter for aerial application around the world. The plot has definitely thickened and is fueled by hysteria brought on by lies and misinformation. They are doing what they can to write us out of the picture. I’m sure the eco-fascists have already latched on to the case and are salivating to see the same sort of reaction from other courts. I know, as an industry we are making giant leaps in fighting the rising tide of anti-ag fabrications. Unfortunately, they have the ability to scream and wail louder. Our giant leaps are pretty small compared to their anarchist-funded deception campaign. The reasonable folks, who listen to reasonable talk, are simply outnumbered by those who receive their news, information and ethics from the Internet and ‘reality’ T.V.

Morning Tracy; No truer words could be written. The zealots are working on emotion and that’s a powerful tool that is effective around the world. It is going to be tough to keep caring the flag of what is good and right with such small numbers, but it can be done. One very critical element, like their politics, changing ag to a basic organic entity is not sustainable worldwide. The hypocrisy is it’s ideal for the well-to-do. Those who are hungry could not care less about organic or political correctness or a little drift. Heck, I get invisible drift every time I drive down the highway, especially behind heavy traffic. Do I walk? No! Do I stop eating? No! Be sure to read an interview with the operator who was sentenced on page 32. I visited him about 20 years ago and wrote an article; very nice person and has served as the president of the Argentina association of aerial applicators.

I hope those men are successful in their appeals and a little common sense finds its way into the court. Whatever happened there, should not have happened, but to send good men to prison for it is an act of tyranny; sacrificing these men’s lives in order to placate a special interest group. We’d better watch out!

I remember my first taste of raw fish (not sure if it was sushi) was dining with you and your girlfriend. I also remember the dive shop, rock climbing wall and your kindness to provide me a place to stay in an apartment of yours. I appreciate your invitation to return for a follow up visit. Seven decades of dedication by Graham Lavender

Seven decades; three generations, hundreds of annual inspections, thousands of spark plugs and countless flight hours are all part of the history books for AufderHeide Flying Service based in DeWitt, Arkansas. A chance flight instruction job, taken by Calvin AufderHeide in the late 1940s laid the foundation to the aerial application company that was run by his son Mark and now by his grandson Matthew. Calvin “Cal” (or Papa to his long list of family and friends) AufderHeide (19272017) was fresh out of the Army Signal Corps in July 1947 when he elected to attend and subsequently graduate from the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Oklahoma,

obtaining his A&P, Pilot’s and Instructor’s licenses. He was expecting to land a job up north somewhere, but instead happened upon an ad for a flight instructor in the small town of DeWitt, Arkansas. There, now working for Smith and Jones Flying Service, Cal was given the additional duty of aerial applications with a Super Cub. Cal AufderHeide’s flight instruction/pilot/ aerial applicator job with Smith and Jones Flying Service had a short life, and in 1950 he and his first wife Mary Katherine started AufderHeide Flying Service using a single N3N Stearman. As the years passed, Cal would operate Stearmans, Pawnees, Cubs, turbine Ag-Cats and eventually turbine Thrushes.

AufderHeide Flying Service Cal’s son, Mark AufderHeide (1953-2011), joined the business full-time after college. Cal taught Mark to fly in a Cub (which is still owned by AufderHeide Flying Service), then Mark progressed to spraying with AgCats. In the 1980s, Mark married Margo Travis, a local girl from DeWitt. Margo joined AufderHeide Flying Service as a student of Mark’s mom, Mary Katherine. Mary Katherine would spend the next decade mentoring Margo with the ins and outs of running a flying service while both Cal and Mark did the flying. Mark and Margo took the reins of AufderHeide Flying Service in 2008 with their three children lending helping hands on the ground and in the office. Matthew

Margo Kagebein at her desk on a weekday morning at AufderHeide Flying Service in De Witt, Arkansas AufderHeide, who started his first season the next year in a Garrett-powered AgCat, was now a pilot for AufderHeide Flying Service, alongside his dad and Dale Nichols. Tragically, Dale lost his life in the flying service’s turbine Thrush in 2010. This incident placed Matthew as the primary pilot behind his dad, Mark. The duo flew together for the 2010 spraying season before Mark AufderHeide passed away in 2011. During Mark’s illness, his and Margo’s son and daughters, along with their spouses, kept the flying service running. Mark and Margo have three children, Matthew, Katherine Holmstrom and Alexis AufderHeide. Katherine took over Margo’s duties as office manager, bookkeeper and scheduler while Matthew took over the flying. Alexis would come to the flying service during breaks in college to help on the ground. Before Mark passed, AufderHeide Flying Service had replaced the turbine Thrush lost in the accident with an AT-502, powered by a PT6A-34. In 2014, Matthew, now running the flying service as a third-generation ag pilot, added a second AT-502B to his company’s fleet. 2014 also brought in Lonnie Kagebein. Lonnie completed is 42nd season ag flying in 2017. Lonnie had previously owned and operated Lonnie’s Flying Service for 28 years in the DeWitt area. Lonnie and Margo were also married in 2014. Today, AufderHeide Flying Service has two AT-502s and one AT-602. The aircraft run a mixture of CP-11s and CP-09s, along with

a variety of SATLOC guidance systems. The AT-602 utilizes a hydraulic gate and the AT-502s have AFS check valves. AufderHeide Flying Service’s season is typical for their location in eastern Arkansas with burn-down starting in mid-January to February and the season historically coming to a close sometime around September. Margo (AufderHeide) Kagebein, Matthew’s mother, is ever-present in the office on a typical summer morning. She is busy bookkeeping, scheduling acres and ordering chemical. There is little she doesn’t do, except fly. Katherine, Matthew’s sister, is still involved in the aerial application industry as the Executive Director for the Arkansas Agricultural Aviation Association and she also holds the title of the Senior Project Manager for the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. Matthew’s youngest sister, Alexis, is now the accountant for AufderHeide Flying Service. Over the past 67 years, AufderHeide Flying Service has certainly been through its fair share of changes and challenges. But as the dust settled, it is evident the same dedication and determination that persuaded their grandfather Cal to start the business has undoubtedly kept three generations of the AufderHeide family a part of it.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the AT-802 series, an airplane that has taken on many roles beyond that of aerial spraying for high-yield agriculture. The airplane’s excellent flying qualities and handling characteristics have made it popular for a wide variety of specialized applications, including aerial firefighting, fertilizing and reseeding forests, applying dispersant on oil spills, hauling fuel to remote villages, counternarcotics operations, security and reconnaissance missions, and other specialized jobs. Visitors to the Air Tractor exhibit area can view an AT-802A ag plane and an AT-802F air tanker. The two 802 series airplanes are joined by the Air Tractor’s newest airplane, the 867 horsepower, 500-gallon payload 502XP. Interest and sales of the airplane have been strong since its introduction at the 2015 NAAA convention. The airplane is designed to excel in high/hot conditions which allows it to carry a full load all day, every day.

Prime Turbines named Authorized Repair and Overhaul Center for GE M601 and H Series engines EVENDALE, OH—Dallas-based Prime Turbines LLC, a subsidiary of VSE Aviation, Inc., has advanced its partnership with GE Aviation from a Designated Repair Center (DRC) to an Authorized Repair and Overhaul Center (AROC) for GE M601 and H Series turboprop engines.

Under the new designation, Prime Turbines now has the authority to accept and overhaul all GE M601 and H Series engines. Prime Turbines is the first AROC outside of Prague, Czech Republic, for these engines. As an AROC, Prime Turbines adds a new level of convenience for GE M601 and H Series owners and operators, allowing more flexible turnaround time for their turboprop overhauls. With customers already lined up, Prime Turbines expects to have its first GE M601 engine overhauled by the end of the year. “We are pleased to team with GE Aviation as they continue to expand their presence in the turboprop market with both the M601 and H Series engines,” said Paul Goffredi, President and Chief Operating Officer at VSE Aviation, Inc. “These engines are a natural extension to our portfolio as well as we increase our focus on the turboprop market.” GE has more than one thousand M601 and H Series turboprop engines in service, allowing operators to fly diverse aircraft that includes the Thrush 510G and Aircraft Industries’ L410. Pioneering Snow S-2A ag plane displayed at NAAA Ag Aviation Expo 2017

SAVANNAH, GA — An early ag airplane designed and built by the founder of Air Tractor, Inc. is on display this week at the National Agricultural Aviation Association annual convention in Savannah, Georgia. The Snow Aeronautical model S-2A, built in 1959, was the 25th production airplane built by the young aeronautical engineer and entrepreneur in Olney, Texas. The airplane is a restoration project destined to be a historical exhibit at the National Agricultural Aviation Museum and Hall of Fame in Jackson, Mississippi.

Thousands of dollars’ worth of donations poured in after the memorial fund was announced in memory of Kenny Hirsch and Brandon Carter. And many, many hours of effort went into repairing the S-2A’s fuselage and tail feathers and overhauling all of the fuselage components, including the landing gear, instrument panel and other subassembly components. The father of modern ag aviation, Leland Snow at the controls of a Snow S-2A produced in Olney, Texas – now home to the world’s leading ag aircraft manufacturer, Air Tractor, Inc. The history of this particular airplane is an achievement arising from a tragedy. The airplane was a project begun nine years ago by Air Tractor President Jim Hirsch’s son, Kenny Hirsch and his best friend Brandon Carter who both died together in a tragic accident. The NAAA established the Kenny Hirsch & Brandon Carter S-2A Airplane Restoration Memorial Fund in part because young Kenny, Brandon, Jim Hirsch and a friend, Ricky Ward had begun the project as a dream of Kenny’s budding interest as an aviation mechanic.

Now that the airplane restoration is nearing completion, Air Tractor and Jim Hirsch wanted to show the progress and thank the many people who volunteered their time and donated money to bring the airplane back to its original condition. Prior to Leland Snow’s death in 2011, Jim Hirsch recalled discussing the restoration project with Leland Snow. “He thought it was a great idea. He wanted to see it go,” Hirsch said. Today Hirsch adds, “I remember that Leland was enthusiastic about bringing this airplane to the NAAA Convention. He thought that that would have been really, really cool. And I am sure Leland, Kenny and Brandon and would be really pleased that it is here this week in Savannah.”

Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PT6A-140 engine series to provide greater value with new extended Time Between Overhaul and Hot Section Inspection intervals

SAVANNAH, GA – Pratt & Whitney Canada announced the extension of the basic Time Between Overhaul (TBO) and Hot Section Inspection (HSI) intervals for in-service and future PT6A-140, -140A and -140AG engines. The TBO is increasing to 4,000 from 3,600 hours, while the HSI interval is extended from 1,800 to 2,000 hours. These improvements will benefit general aviation operators by increasing flying time and decreasing maintenance costs. Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. Subsequent to the introduction of the PT6A-140AG engine variant created specifically for the aerial application segment, both leading aircraft manufacturers in the agricultural industry, Air Tractor and Thrush, have selected the engine for their 500-gallon aircraft. As with all PT6A engines, the PT6A-140AG is one of the easiest engines in the agriculture industry to access and maintain thanks to its modular design and externally mounted fuel nozzles. The time between overhauls (TBO) can be extended by up to 8,000 hours or 15 years, depending on the operation, and is independent of engine cycles. Simple, routine engine inspections can be performed while still on-wing, in the field or in the hangar. Betty and Bill Hubler William Hubler, or Bill, as he is best known, was born February 3, 1930. He began flying lessons at age 15. But, when he got married at a young age, responsibility spoke louder than the dream of being a pilot. So, he devoted himself to the plumber’s profession to support the family he built alongside his wife Betty, a strong-willed woman. Living in Nampa, Idaho, they had five children. Three of them became pilots, two of which, unfortunately, later died in aviation accidents. At age 35, with the children grown, Bill resumed his studies in aviation and became a Commercial Pilot with Multi-Engine and Instrument ratings. In 1965, the demand for pilots was great and he envisioned the possibility of flying for an airline. But was told he was too old to start a career in the airline. Betty had always been strict, “Fly any aircraft, make a career in any branch of aviation, except in agricultural aviation.” At that time, she hardly knew she would have to bargain for that decision later. In 1968, the Vietnam War was ongoing and many in the military returning home were undergoing a civilian pilot training program. Bill became a flight instructor at the Fort Benning, Georgia. But Betty wanted to go back to Idaho, she missed Idaho. The wise woman that she was, she made a proposal to her husband, “As long as you take me home, you can work as an agricultural pilot.” Bill, equally wise, found the exchange just right and jumped at the opportunity.

The happy couple returned to Treasure Valley, Idaho and Bill began working as an agricultural pilot for Clarke Flying Service. At the time Clarke Flying Service had seven Super Cubs with 90-gallon belly tanks. Beginning pilots started in these, if they did not bend the plane in the first year, they could advance to the Call Air the next year. In the second year, if they did not have any problems with the 140-gallon hopper Call Air, they were “promoted” to night flying. Not too long after Bill started his first season in the Super Cub, one of the Call Air pilots quit. Already with a reputation of being an excellent pilot, Bill, even new at the company, was promoted to the Call Air. One day when he was about stop for the day the chief pilot said to him, “Okay, you do not have to stop, you can finish this area. For today, we’ll let you fly at night.” Pretty soon he was flying every night. Yes, the unquestionable talent of Bill Hubler helped him advance quickly in aviation despite a late start in his career. And think, at that time the technology for night flying was a Super Cub with 12-volts night lights. It was a luxury to fly the Call Air at night with its much brighter 24-volt lights. There was no GPS or night vision goggles and other technology like we have today. Referring to technology, the most precious “equipment” Bill possessed to guide him had two legs, two arms and a beautiful pair of blue eyes. Yes, Betty Hubler has always been a woman ahead of her time.

She became a Private Pilot and was very involved in agricultural activities. She worked as a flagger. She would mark the application areas, take care of the maps, and even though she did not like it very much, did office work, as well. Betty developed an incredible ability to notice just by the noise of the engine when something was wrong with her husband’s plane. One time she noticed something different and thought, “this engine is not normal.” Minutes later, behold, she saw Bill landing in the middle of a field. Luckily, he stopped less than three feet from a huge ditch. Laughingly and remembering the good years, she says, “He crash landed, but fortunately the plane did not catch fire. At least not that time.” The two recall that Bill had throughout his career an unlucky 13 engine failures! Not all were in spray planes. Betty was very persistent when they acquired their own business that all the trucks and aircraft have fire extinguishers, even though they were not required (like they are in Brazil). Betty also excelled in some episodes involving legal battles. Ag planes are signaled out by people who have only the right to completely ignore their ignorance. But Betty taught some of these people that they should not play with a lady willing to defend herself, husband, family and business. In one instance, a man decided to shoot the planes of Bill and his son while they were spraying. The man was arrested and tried in court, but

Other similar cases fought and won and Betty was sought by other people who had to prove in court who was really responsible for certain damages. She had to clarify that she was not a lawyer. Judging from her ability to discover the truth, she might as well have been a lawyer, or a detective. Luckily, she chose to pursue an ag-aviation career with her husband. The two make a good pair.

When asked what skill he considers indispensable to an agricultural pilot, Betty immediately replies for Bill, “peripheral vision.” He agrees and adds, “We become good pilots when we fly enough to wear the plane, rather than just fly it.”

Outside the whine of a turbine engine brings me back to the present day and signals the beginning of another day’s work. I say goodbye to the Hublers and thank them for letting me travel in time with them. Bill and Betty live on a comfortable property next to the runway where the family aircraft operate. Everything is there; hangars, the headquarters of the company and less than a mile away, the home of their children, daughters-inlaw and grandchildren. “Regarding another of the prosecutor’s accusations,” Erminio told La Palabra, “The one who had to give the notice of the application was Mr. Honecker (the grower). That’s what the Entre Ríos provincial agrochemical law says. Honecker is the owner of the crop and hired us to make the application. “This happened December 4, 2014. Aero Litoral S.A. is based in Daireaux which is 800 km away and where also I live. I learned of the event on December 16, when they made the arrests. I never knew anything about this before. “Regarding what happened, the application the pilot chose to do was in the afternoon. It was the first time the pilot flew this field and applied this fungicide. When he looked at the map of the field, he saw there was a school nearby with a street in between. But between the rice field (where the application was made) and the school, there were 15 hectares of corn. The fungicide should have left a green band on the corn if it drifted. Not a single corn plant was affected. In addition, the application was done on a side where the wind was not going toward the school. Additionally, he left 25 hectares of rice as a border without applying.

“The teacher invented the story. Also in the Province of Entre Ríos (as in the Province of Buenos Aires), there is a law from November 1 to March 30, that classes in rural schools must be given in the mornings. This application was made in the afternoon, just for that reason. “The pilot tells me that when he arrived and made the overflight to look for obstacles, he did not see any raised school flag, nor did he see any cars. The teacher arrived between the first and second loads to the application site. The first load was made at 1:07 p.m. and the satellite tracking of the plane confirms this. “We presented all these facts at the hearing. During the time the plane was not applying, the teacher started the class and then the plane arrived. What I can assure you is that it was a total lie of the teacher that was presented in court. In this case, the lie won because of the pressure that the teacher and the three organizations made; CETERA, CTA and AMET. “When the trial ended, it seemed that instead of being in a courtroom, we were in a football stadium with the teachers breaking out in song. When instead, they are to educate our children. Rookie ferry flight by Jonathan Teigrob/Canada

This story comes about due to a G164B Grumman Ag-Cat in the deep ditch of a rice field in southern Mexico and I was worried. About five days prior, I had met with a fellow in the central U.S. with the idea to ferry an Ag-Cat to Central America. He was part of a European Company investing in the isthmus between North and South America. I had partnered with them on the Grumman, as they needed a plane and pilot for control of the black sigatoka disease that attacks bananas. We met with the salesman for the aircraft. I looked at the logbooks and he was given a check. It was dusk when I “took it for a spin”. It was my first time flying a biplane with an R-985 radial. I haven’t forgotten the flight. When I landed, one of the pilots of the operation mentioned full power isn’t needed with an empty Ag-Cat.

The next day, I purchased a half dozen jerry cans, filled them with fuel and set them in the hopper. When I said to a seasoned pilot that I planned to go direct using the compass, he found a piece of copper wire and made a screwdriver out of it, complete with a bend to clip it into my shirt pocket. ”The compass probably isn’t calibrated,” he said. ”Fly over cardinal heading aligned roads and set it before you depart. The AgCat has 83 gallons of fuel and you can use it all,” he added. The first day on my journey flying through the central U.S. from Missouri, I landed after dodging towers that disappeared into the overcast. The second day I skirted controlled airspace and landed at dusk at a small airport in the South. A sign at the selfserve fuel pumps said to put the money in a box. He probably hadn’t seen a crop duster before and seemed excited at the notion that I was on a special mission. There were 30-knot headwinds in the afternoon. Finally, I landed at the Weslaco, Texas airport and met with some acquaintances I knew. A fellow pilot gave me a lift to the Best Western hotel. He returned later with charts of Mexico, which was much appreciated and a few stories about flying in Mexico. After a phone call to the weather people the next day, I flew over the border to Reynosa, Mexico. There must have been a football game on television, as it was a couple of hours before Mexican Immigration and Customs showed up to do the paperwork. By the time I was ready to depart the wind was 30 knots straight down the runway. The lady in the tower gave me the wind speed a few times. I finally I asked her to confirm the wind direction, she caught the hint and sounded relieved.

I took off direct across the tropical jungles of south Mexico toward the coastline for Chetumal, Mexico. I had calculated on a sea breeze headwind as I approached the coast at Chetumal, but I didn’t know when it would start and when I would run out of fuel. The thought of fuel exhaustion returned to my mind many times while flying over the tropical jungle. Seeing a rice field amongst the jungle, I landed and bounced into a threefoot ditch. With the engine still running and no damage to the plane, I shut down the AgCat and dumped in the fuel from the jerry scans and waited.

1988 AT-301 in excellent condition. 7500 hrs TTSN. Strong running Younkin 1340 engine w/750 hrs SOH in July 2016. Overhauled carburetor, propeller governor, and fuel pump in July 2016. 0 (ZERO!) since IRAN on 23D40 prop (Memphis propeller, Dec 2017). Prop AD will need to be complied with 5 yrs from now. Wing AD was complied with in Dec. 2016 500 hrs ago by Georges out of Texas, one of the best AT repair stations in the US. No eddy currents or other inspections, other than visual, will be needed for 3000 hrs and gives you 6500 hrs until the wings will need to be done again. Fuselage is in excellent condition. 1988 is the last year of the 301 and this aircraft is only a few serial numbers from the end. When the plane was at Georges, it was found that there was a 401 fuselage instead of a 301 fuselage on the plane from the factory. It is theorized that the factory ran out of 301 fuselages and grabbed a 401 instead. The fuselage is in perfect condition with all reinforcements factory installed. There is no sign of corrosion anywhere and you are encouraged to bring your flashlight and check it out. New battery installed Dec 2016. The spray system is in top condition. New booms (Dec 2017) from Transland have never had chemicals in them. The CP-03 nozzles & check valves have been overhauled with new seals & O-rings. New Agrinautics spray pump (Dec 2017) coupled to a Lane electric fan/ brake. Backup spray pump as a spare will be included in the sale. Transland spray valve, loader valve, and 2” quick coupler overhauled Dec 2017. Everything in the spray system is new or freshly overhauled so you will not have any problems in the coming season. I have taken this system over the string and the setup is in great spraying configuration. Included with the sale is a Transland SwathMaster spreader. Currently the plane has an Ag-Nav Platinum GPS w/flow control, but I would like to sell the plane with a Satloc Bantam w/Intelliflow system & L7 lightbar.
