SHOW GUIDE
FROM THE COCKPIT
Bill Lavendar bill@agairupdate.com
Get ready for the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo in Orlando! I’ve known for at least a couple of years that the 2019 NAAA Ag Aviation Expo will be held in Orlando, Florida on November 1821. It wasn’t until this summer that I began to realize the implications of this change, mostly the date change from the first week of December to the middle of November. Here at AgAir Update offices, we have had to rearrange our complete line of thinking by a full month, like I am sure many of you did. It has been a little challenging to bring advertisers in this Show Guide on board a full month ahead of the norm with an earlier ad submission deadline. But, it all worked out! Orlando is a great Florida city and the weather should be perfect. There is plenty to do while there, but I suggest you extend your time, either arriving early or departing later, and reserve Sunday through Thursday exclusively for NAAA events. Based on nearly 55 years of experience hosting an international trade show, I know NAAA will not disappoint you. As you read through these pages of AgAir Update’s Ag Aviation Expo Show Guide, I know you will be well prepared to make the most of your time while attending. With over 150 exhibitors and only 12 hours of trade show time, you will need to have reviewed all exhibitors within these pages and prioritize which ones you will visit. There are always great deals to be made during the convention. It is up to you to search them out and put on your negotiation cap. You could easily save enough money to pay for your entire trip to Orlando.

The AgAir Update Team will be strategically placed at booths 716-718. We are fortunate to have such a highly visible position and expect everyone to at least stop by with a wave or “howdy-do”. I can remember the years when the word “team” really didn’t fit very well. Even some years when that “team” was only me. I like the team concept much better! At a minimum, Graham, Ernie, Ryan and Melanie will be at the booth, each with their own expertise in answering and responding to your agaviation questions. Yes, I’ll be there, too, if the creek doesn’t rise too high. We will also be showcasing AgAir Update’s sister publication, AerialFire, at this year’s convention. If you recall, each quarter AgAir Update had a section devoted to aerial firefighting. This industry has grown significantly, enough so that we have removed that section from AgAir Update and created an entirely new magazine (check out www.aerialfiremag.com for more info). In closing, I would like to thank NAAA for working with AgAir Update to help us bring you this informative Show Guide helping to promote the convention. And equally as much, all the supporting advertisers within this Show Guide. Thank you. Enjoy this 28th edition of AgAir Update’s Ag-Aviation Expo Show Guide. Make the most of it, preparing for your attendance in Orlando, November 18-21. I’ll see ya there!

AgAir Update’s 28th Annual NAAA Ag Aviation Expo Show Guide | SG 3
SHOW GUIDE
FROM THE NAAA
Andrew Moore NAAA Executive Director Perry Hofer NAAA President
Experience Orlando Magic at NAAA’s 2019 Ag Aviation Expo Nov. 18–21!
It should be no surprise that this year’s Ag Aviation Expo is three weeks earlier than our typical early December conventions.
SG 4 | agairupdate.com
On behalf of the National Agricultural Aviation Association, we would like to invite all AgAir Update readers to the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo. It has been more than a decade since NAAA has hosted its annual convention in Orlando and we’re thrilled to be back for the world’s largest agricultural aviation expo! Having the convention in the Sunshine State will be a welcome respite for many of us after a later than usual season. That goes double for northern aerial applicators after the Arctic-like temperatures they endured this past winter. By this point, it should be no surprise that this year’s Ag Aviation Expo is three weeks earlier than our typical early December conventions. However, in case you’ve been on convention autopilot, please be aware the dates for the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo are Nov. 18–21. All events at the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo, including the NAAA Trade Show, will take place at Rosen Shingle Creek, a luxury hotel with impeccable customer service and all the amenities you expect. Situated on 230 acres of lush landscape, Rosen Shingle Creek is one of central Florida’s most luxurious meeting destinations. Our room rate is $139 per night, but you’ll have to act fast—the cutoff for NAAA’s room block is 5 p.m., Oct. 24. Book online at AgAviation.org/hotel or call Rosen Shingle Creek at (866) 996-6338 and reference the NAAA convention. It doesn’t matter if you are a veteran operator, a fledging ag pilot or an allied supplier to the ag aviation industry, you won’t find a better venue than the Ag Aviation Expo to help you achieve your professional goals and business objectives. The world’s largest agricultural aviation expo offers countless opportunities to conduct business, visit with friends and colleagues and learn about cuttingedge technologies and products. With more than
30 hours of educational programming, a full trade show floor and as many as 1,500 aerial application professionals, you’ll be in good company when you join us in Orlando. The action begins at the 2019 Kickoff Breakfast Monday morning where you’ll hear from Sean D. Tucker, a world-renowned stunt pilot who began his career as an ag pilot. He has dominated the aviation industry as a stunt pilot, air show champion and one of the 25 “Living Legends of Flight” honored by the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. Sean’s personality is as infectious as his original flying style. We can’t think of a better way to open the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo than having America’s leading airshow performer return to his crop duster roots. Several educational sessions are on tap throughout the week, including the Aerial Application Technology Research Session and programming focused on low-level obstacles, crop protection products, insurance, airframes, engine performance, helicopters and much more. The educational programming leads off with the Aerial Application Technology Research Session, the R&D portion of the NAAA Expo. You’ll hear a science-based overview of some of the latest state-of-the-art research being conducted for aerial applicators’ benefit. Topics of discussion will include new spray pattern testing systems, aerial imaging, aerial application fundamentals, new spray drift protocols and a look at how important aerial application is to the U.S. economy and our national security. Several states are granting CEUs for this session. Visit AgAviation.org/ceu for a full list of CEU opportunities at the expo. The Nov. 19 General Session will feature speakers covering two important topics for the industry: trends in the global crop protection product industry and aerial imaging as a diversification option for
SHOW GUIDE
aerial applicators. Dr. Matthew Phillips, a leading consultant and data analyst in the agrochemical and seeds industries, will open by assessing the global crop protection market and where companies are headed after a spate of mergers between the major crop protection product manufacturers. Attendees also will hear from Ofir Schlam, the CEO of Taranis, an international agricultural remote sensing and imaging company. Like other ag imaging companies, Taranis uses satellites, manned aircraft and UAVs to provide images of various resolutions. What makes Taranis unique is its low-level scouting sampling. This imaging is conducted at low altitudes just above the crop. Rather than attempt to image the entire field at this level, images are instead taken systematically across the field. This is like any other type of IPM scouting program, except the Taranis method generates far more sampling points in much less time. Furthermore, the low-level scouting imagery can be used to identify and map specific pests, whether it be insects, weeds or diseases. The most exciting part is the potential for agricultural aircraft to be a part of this program. The lowlevel nature of these images is perfectly suited to being captured by agricultural aircraft. Taranis is currently developing a pod that can be mounted on agricultural aircraft for this very purpose. Come to the General Session to see what the future holds for agriculture, our industry and possible ways to diversify your business. This year’s career-development programs have been frontloaded to give new and low-time ag pilots increased opportunities to interact with experienced operators and pilots after the sessions. NAAREF’s “Ask the Expert” Speed Mentoring Session will take place Nov. 18 and two Compaass Rose Sessions will be held Nov. 17 and 20. Compaass Rose is an information-sharing session geared toward low-time and prospective ag pilots. The format differs but the objective of the “Ask the Expert” Speed Mentoring Session is the same as Compaass Rose. This fastpaced orientation session for new and prospective ag pilots consists of a series of speed mentoring rounds led by experienced operators and pilots, insurance representatives and ag schools. The NAAREF Safety Session on Nov. 21 will examine safety elements through a different lens. The program “Relationship Drift: A look at
how personal relationships affect pilot decision making and safety” will facilitate relations between operators and pilots and their spouses or significant others. For specific solutions for your business look no further than the NAAA Trade Show Nov. 19–20. The world’s largest agricultural aviation trade show brings buyers and sellers of aerial applicationrelated products, supplies and services together under one roof. You’ll be able to visit with 140 exhibiting companies and view several aircraft on display. Don’t miss the fun of the Live Auction, which also happens to be our biggest fundraiser. Along with a new PT6A-34AG engine from Pratt & Whitney Canada, many other great items are up for bid. Visit AgAviation.org/auctions for a list of all the auction items. The action gets underway Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. on the trade show floor. Throughout the week, there will be no shortage of opportunities to network and make new acquaintances. From Monday’s Welcome Reception to Thursday’s Farewell Reception, you’ll be able to attend a different reception nearly every night. If you see someone seated alone and wearing at Ag Aviation Expo badge, ask to join them and make a new connection. Finally, we encourage you to make plans to attend the Excellence in Ag Aviation Banquet Nov. 21, where we will honor a slate of distinguished awardees for their impressive contributions to the industry. Download the NAAA Ag Aviation Expo App to stay up to date onsite. The app features the full schedule of events, a list of available CEUs, auction items, an interactive NAAA Trade Show floor map and more! Learn more at AgAviation.org/expoapp. That’s just a small taste of what you’ll find at the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo. There is much more information within these pages and on NAAA’s website at AgAviation.org/convention. Please join us for what promises to be a magical week of learning, laughter and networking with the agricultural aviation industry’s best operators, pilots and service providers! Register for the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo at AgAviation.org by Oct. 18 to qualify for the preregistration discount. After Oct. 18, base registration will cost $50 more per person.

Live and Silent Auctions The Live Auction at the NAAA Ag Aviation Expo continues to be one of the most popular and successful fundraisers for the Association. When it comes to high-stakes entertainment, the intrigue, drama and excitement of NAAA’s Live Auction is hard to beat, which is why it has become one of the signature events at each convention. The Live Auction on “Convention Tuesday” is very important to NAAA from a fundraising standpoint, so enjoy the reception food and beverages and bring your checkbooks. NAAA also holds a Silent Auction each year. Bidding opens on Tuesday and closes on Wednesday afternoon. The Live Auction continues to be one of the most popular and financially successful fundraisers for the Association. But NAAA could not accomplish this without the support of our many friends and allies. We are grateful to our Allied Industry, State Associations and aerial applicator supporters. All auction donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated, and NAAA recognizes all donations in Association publications and on the NAAA website. The earlier you come forward, the more exposure you’ll get. 2019 Auction Donation Forms can be found at www.agaviation.org/auctions. Please provide as much details as possible for the website and program and provide a photo, if available.

Announcing 2019 Kickoff Breakfast Speaker, Sean D. Tucker
Join us for the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo Kickoff Breakfast on Monday, Nov. 18. We are excited to announce Sean D. Tucker as our Kickoff Breakfast speaker!
SG 10 | agairupdate.com
Sean D. Tucker, a native of Eagle Rock, CA, earned his pilot’s certificate at age 17. Sean started his flying career as a crop duster in modified Stearman biplanes and eventually started a crop dusting business in Salinas, CA. During this time, he took an aerobatics course, through which he “found out you could roll an airplane upside down and it wouldn’t fall out of the sky.” In 1975, he began competing and quickly earned national recognition and the coveted title of U.S. National Advanced Aerobatics Champion. With over 20,000 hours, more than 1,275 performances and 525 airshows in front of more than 135 million fans, he has won numerous aerobatic competitions and received over 18 prestigious awards, including induction into the National Aviation Hall of Fame. Sean amazes audiences with his high-energy routines, and his original flying style and infectious personality have rocketed him to the top. In his performance, he flies his highly modified, one-of-a kind aerobatic dream machine sponsored by Oracle backwards, straight-down and tail-first at more than 100 mph. Its revolutionary set of wings
uses eight ailerons instead of four and sports a highperformance tail. Over half of Sean’s maneuvers are original and have never been duplicated by another aerobatic pilot. Sean is also the only pilot to perform a triple ribbon cut where he flies through the ribbons, which are only 25 feet off the ground, at 220 mph in right knife-edge for the first ribbon, then left knife-edge, and finally inverted. The level of professionalism and discipline in Sean’s airshows is no coincidence. He practices his airshow routine three times every day. To endure the extreme physical demands of each routine, Sean maintains a rigorous physical training schedule, working out more than 340 days per year. Named as one of the Living Legends of Flight, Sean is a member of an elite group of aviators and astronauts that includes General Jimmy Doolittle, General “Chuck” Yeager and John Glenn. When asked about flying airshows, Sean responds, “I like to think that I bring the fans’ dreams of flying into the plane with me and there’s nowhere I’d rather be than in the cockpit. That’s why I train so hard to keep a finely tuned edge.”

Kawak Aviation Technologies Committed to Customer Success “Kawak Aviation was founded in 1993 in Bend, Oregon USA. That year, Kawak founders Doug Sawyer and Mike Reightley, utilizing decades of experience in the fluid power industry created the first electro proportional auxiliary hydraulic power system for spray equipment on agricultural aircraft. In 1994, Kawak developed turbine-engine conversions for the Thrush and a few years later the Dromader utilizing TPE331 engines. As part of these conversions our first throttle quadrants were born. In 1996, we designed an auxiliary hydraulic system for the Bell OH-58 helicopter. This design was quickly adapted to the B206B. It was the first and to this day the only reliable variable hydraulic drive for these rotary wing
aircraft, and can potentially quadruple productivity over standard electric systems. A string of auxiliary hydraulic systems followed over the years including the S2R, AT802, Bell 47, Hiller, SA315B Lama, Bell 212/ 412/205, Hughes 500, Bell UH-B, H, L, & K, Sikorsky S64E & F, Sikorsky S-61, Kaman K-1200, CH-47D Chinook, CH54B Sky Crane, and more. In 2004, Air Repair Inc. and Kawak began a collaborative effort to develop a system that would give applicators all of the benefits of hydraulic control at a lower price point by utilizing an electro/ hydraulic power unit. The system was designed primarily for dry flow control operation however the intention was to have a single power unit that could power not only the dry gate, but the boom valve,

hopper door, and flaps or any combination as well. A modular system with the ability to have additional functions added on depending on applicator preference. The Rx Gate System has been field proven since 2006 with over 100 systems sold. This year Kawak is celebrating our 26th anniversary. We’re not just celebrating 26 years of being in business, but 26 years of supporting and innovating solutions for our customers in the aerial agriculture industry. We are proud not just of what we do, but how we do it. Whether it is developing innovative products and services or investing in our people and future workforce, our goal is to provide our customers with the best possible products and service.”

More Acres & Less Stress, with Flight Plan Online Pilots are impressed with our Mobile View.
SG 20 | agairupdate.com
For more than ten years, Flight Plan Online has given aerial applicators a better way to organize and complete spray jobs. It helps you communicate effectively, be more efficient, and spray more acres. With Flight Plan Online, you can offer customers an easy way to create jobs. The userfriendly design will have them making maps and work orders, fast. They can even include adjacent crops and hazards near the field. Email alerts let them track jobs, without calling for updates. One of our most powerful tools is the Master Map. Whether you have a few jobs, or a few hundred, you get a clear overview to create manageable batches and schedule them for spraying. It’s easy to upload field boundaries into your guidance system. Pilots are impressed with our Mobile View. It lets you open batches
on the fly, select a job, and automatically record completion information. Flight Plan Online helps you reduce risk. It flags sensitive areas on pilot maps. The maps give a clear view of fields and nearby landmarks where you’ll be flying, so you spray the right field. All work orders are kept online, so they can’t get lost. If you want to offer as-applied maps to customers, there’s no easier way. You can also create application reports and invoices the same day you spray! We’re honored by all the aerial applicators who’ve chosen Flight Plan Online through the years. They tell us they love how easy it is to use, and how we put customer service, first. Impressive Results at AERO Innovations
A
ero Innovations has been installing the “LoadMaster” 4-blade propeller since 2015. With over 40 installations the results have been nothing short of impressive. The propeller provides an additional increase of up to 233.6 equivalent shaft horsepower, up to 584 ft lbs increase in thrust, shorter takeoff distance and increased climb rate. Our propellers are now flying in New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Guatemala. We recently received approval for installation in Canada. Aero Innovations has acquired the STC for the Record Intake for the Thrush installation. A new filter system has been developed to make filter change and cleaning much easier. You will be able to change the filter on your plane as easily as changing your furnace filter! Come by booth 317 so we can give you a demonstration.
All pros... All pros, no cons - better take off performance, more pull in turns, smoother, quieter, better ground handling, moves aircraft CG forward, Hartzell reliability and service. Great prop! Adam Meyerkorth, Meyerkorth Aviation, Rock Port, MO
A different plane... This prop made my N5680X a completely different airplane. If you operate a PT6 up to -42 Thrush or Air Tractor, you should really consider upgrading to Aero Innovations LLC Loadmaster Propeller System and get the “DAWG” out of your ag plane! Patrick Andrews, Coleman, GA
Do it again... After putting the prop on I have to say I would recommend it to anyone thinking about trying it out. I gained every bit of the 500-foot takeoff difference promised and also cut down my turn time while heavy. The plane fly’s like a whole different animal now. I am extremely pleased with the turn out and would do it again in a heartbeat. Tommy Deterding, Carrier, OK

Turbines Inc. has grown over the years, but its values remain the same. Many of our employees have been here 25+ years. The depth of our experience and knowledge is unequalled in any turbine shop. Turbines Inc. is privately owned, so there are no committees or red tape to go through. When you have a technical question or just want to explore some options, you will not find a more experienced group to talk to. When you call Turbines Inc., you will speak to someone who has worked on PT6 engines for over 30 years and can advise and troubleshoot your PT6 right over the phone. There is no administrative assistant who takes your message and promises to get back to you. You will speak directly to our General Manager who has full authority to utilize all our resources to
solve your engine problems. Turbines Inc. is FAA approved to perform all work scopes on a PT6 engine from hot section repair to full overhaul on all PT6 models and “yes” we are the experts on the PT6A-20. Storm Aeronautics…
“Keeping Ag Aviation Great” Storm Aeronautics will be holding an educational session on Monday at 4:30 during the convention.
All of us at Storm Aeronautics would first like to thank everyone for a great 2019 and we are looking forward to the upcoming year. Our focus has been and continues to be on safety modifications for ag aircraft and keeping the AgCat a viable option for operators around the world. Storm Cutters are available for every model of Air Tractor as they have proven to be a life saver on many occasions. The Storm Shield is available for both Air Tractors and Thrush. To date there are over 300 Storm Shields flying around the world and we have yet to hear about one case of a window breaking after hitting a foreign object. Adding to our lineup of STC parts is the Custom Air Tail Wheel. The new Single-Arm Tailwheel for 802 and 602 Air Tractors replaces an upper bushing in existing housing with a bearing/ race combination to achieve a smoother/tighter ride and
eliminate excessive vibration. Easy maintenance and increased protection with the addition of an inner and outer hubcap to protect wheel from chemical and fertilizer. We are continuing to work on this STC to make it a more economic option for Air Tractor owners over the factory tail wheel at replacement time. Storm Aeronautics will be holding an educational session on Monday at 4:30 during the convention. It doesn’t matter if you fly an AgCat, Air Tractor, or Thrush feel free to attend as it is open to the public. We will also have a booth #318 at the trade show, hope to see all of you in Orlando and just remember Crop Duster lives matter…..get Storm Cutters/ Storm Shields.

Turbine Conversions Ltd. Goes Global Turbine Conversions, Ltd (TCL) is a family owned global business firmly built on the cornerstones of innovation, quality and integrity. Since 1990 TCL has been manufacturing industry leading technologies that increase safety, productivity and profitability for ag operations around the world. It all started when Bill & Nancy Hatfield established TCL to convert the M18 Dromader to P&W turbine power making the aircraft one of the first agaircraft utilized for single tanker firefighting. TCL has continued to invest in the development and acquisition of innovative technologies that have Supplemental Type Certificates (STC). TCL’s current portfolio offers 30 STCs for the ag aviation marketplace. TCL’s product line aims to increase ag operators options and productivity. The Hydraulic Firegate and Variable Rate Gates (VRG) are two products that provide opportunities for businesses to offer additional services to customers. The VRG is the best tool available for applying cover crop seeding, herbicides and BT mosquito treatments. VRG’s ability to distribute ultra-low rates of 2# to 20# per acre of products with varying masses and weights makes it unique in the marketplace. TCL’s portfolio offers many products that promote aircraft and ground crew safety such as Reinforced Thrush Leading Edges and Single Point Fueling System (SPF). TCL’s SPF is designed for fast, reliable, safe hot-refueling resulting in fewer cycles on your turbine aircraft’s engine and reduces turnaround time on the ground, potentially paying for itself in the first season of use making it a great investment in your business. Two families with one mission to bring quality options to ag aviation around the world after two years of negotiations TCL is proud to be the US distribution center of Zanoni Equipment’s extensive line of quality stainless steel dispersal systems. Zanoni Equipment has a 20-year proven track record as the largest manufacturer of stainless steel systems in Brazil and now these systems are available for US operators as well. We look forward to talking to you at our booth 301 during 2019 NAAA Expo. We hope that you will let us know what TCL can do to help your businesses grow in 2020!

Load a Plane Every Five Minutes Compare any system to Mixmate. That is all we ask. Mixmate offers features not available in any other system at any price. Mixmate is optimized for speed, accuracy, and price. The simple plumbing lowers cost and is easier to maintain. Mix multiple products simultaneously for speed with accurate flowmeters and scales. Bruce Van Beek of R & M Spraying said: “I’m impressed with the accuracy of the meters.” Bruce is using a Mixmate system featuring the Mixmate Pro Inductor and a Flow Super Stack with 14 bulk inputs. The Super Stack gives the lowest cost per input connection and was built especially for aerial applicators. Tracking products from many sources is much easier with the additional inputs to the Mixmate system. Bruce also said: “We have had huge time savings when processing jugs.” The patentpending jug process drains, measures,
and rinses jugs in about 12 seconds. Mike Cruce of Cruce Aviation is currently using 8 inputs with a Mixmate Flow Double Stack. A manual inductor is used for the jugs. When very few jugs are used, a manual inductor makes sense. Using as much of your current system as possible keeps system input costs down. Mike said: “Only a few applicators can afford the expensive mixing systems but most can afford Mixmate.” Also appreciated by Cruce Aviation is the closed system especially for the insecticides, clean working environment, and automated mixing. Mike said: “Bulk products mixed through the Mixmate Flow system eliminated the worker exposure during mixing.” The loading crew now has time to do the load planning which makes the airplanes more efficient. Our customers say it takes about the same amount of time to mix and load the
chemicals as it takes to refuel. Batches are blended on demand. Batch tanks and premixing are not needed in most cases. It is possible to mix helicopter size batches in seconds. Loading systems and logistics are simplified when mixes happen quickly as they are needed. Conditions change and premixed batches do not. Mixmate has the flexibility to cover about any mixing situation. Our inductors are especially good for handling jugs and dry products with automated measurements and records. Existing mixing plants can be modernized with Mixmate’s control systems to give new capabilities and speed. Any Mixmate system can easily be expanded at any time as needed so you are not locked into a fixed configuration. We invite you to give our Praxidyn Team a call. Mixmate may be just the system you have been looking for!

We train from 0 Time, Private, Commercial, Instrument, Fixed Wing and Helicopter Ag Pilot, and Turbine Transitions. Located in Inverness, FL, 1 hour from NAAA Convention in Orlando. Schedule a visit before or after the show! Our new Tandem Trainer is a Cessna 305E-L19. The 305A was a purpose-built Cessna agricultural aircraft. The tandem orientation provides a relevant “center of the Universe” perspective for Ag Pilot training and great stance transition to other first-seat Cessna Ag Planes. A constant speed prop and Continental 0470-15 give the 305 power to train under simulated conditions and is equipped with a spray handle, a Bantam GPS/ lightbar, and smoke for drift study. We also utilize a Single Place Pawnee, a Dual AgCat, with Turbine Transitions available. Eagle Vistas has an Ag Pilot Slalom Course which allows us to provide supervised solo practice in a controlled environment with options for practical lessons: emergency jettison, counting rows, initial swathing, and GPS with swathing. Maintenance on Reliable Engines
Do You Know MORE? Most of us know how expensive the PT6A engines can be when it comes to maintenance, overhauls, etc; especially the older or higher time engines that are used on aircraft that no longer have an appraisal value to justify the expense of the required overhaul at 3600 hours (or 4100 hours on some engines). Many of these engines are still in great condition, making it even harder to justify the expense of an overhaul. Since 1993, MORE Company, Inc. has more than 2500 engines using the FAA approved MORE Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) in the US and over 50 foreign countries. Commonly known as the “MORE Program”, the MORE Instructions For Continued Airworthiness are a set of directions for maintaining the engine by using an aggressive inspection system; periodic borescope inspection of the hot section, inspection of the compressor and exhaust duct areas, Power Plant-Adjustment Test, spectrometric oil and filter debris analysis, engine vibrational analysis and preventative maintenance. The purpose of this system is to find problems in their early stages and then having found those problems to correct them, promptly. For all of you that know MORE, thank you for your recognition, support and continued efforts in keeping the PT6A engines alive!

SprayTender.com Combines ChemBlade ES and QuickDraw Mixing Technology
ChemBlade Enclosed System (ES) is a completely closed transfer system for processing chemical jugs.
Speed, accuracy and zero operator exposure in chemical mixing is the ultimate goal. Find this trifecta at SprayTender.com. SureFire has been the market leader in mixing solutions since the release of the QuickDraw in 2014. This past July SureFire Ag, the inventor and manufacturer of QuickDraw partnered with Eck Fabrication to bring the ChemBlade and QuickDraw together. “We have created SprayTender.com” says Matt Wolters Product Manager and co-founder of SureFire Ag. “This is now the one-stop-shop for all needs related to mixing and loading spray batches.” ChemBlade Enclosed System (ES) is a completely closed transfer system for processing chemical jugs. “You simply put the jug in the “ES”, close the lid and press the start button. 15 seconds later the jug is complete empty and clean” Wolters
TM
continued. “There is not another mixing system available that eliminates all operator exposure and provides the speed required to be practical in the time-is-money environment of aerial application.” “This spring we tested the ChemBlade ES with QuickDraw at Sunflower Aero (Atwood, KS) during the spring wheat fungicide run. That experience was tremendous. When you pair the two systems together you can mix any load without any exposure – no splatter, no splash – zero exposure. As is the case with most operators Sunflower uses chemical in totes when possible, however due to availability or working as contractor to other retailers, they also process a lot of jugs. NAAA Ag Aviation Expo General Session Features
Aerial Imaging Diversification for your Business & Trends in Global Crop Protection Products
Explore the future of the aerial application industry by examining trends in the global crop protection product industry and across agriculture.
SG 38 | agairupdate.com
The 2019 Ag Aviation Expo November 18-21 will feature the premiere trade show for agricultural aviation, great networking opportunities and a great lineup of speakers and events! One of the most educational and informational sessions taking place will be the NAAA General Session on Tuesday, November 19, beginning at 9:45 a.m. The 2019 General Session will explore the future of the aerial application industry by examining trends in the global crop protection product industry and across agriculture. After that big-picture assessment of the global marketplace in the first half of the session, NAAA will take a closer look at aerial imaging as a diversification option for aerial applicators. Dr. Matthew Phillips, a leading consultant and data analyst in the agrochemical and seeds industries, will lead off the General Session by providing his assessment of the global crop protection market and where companies are headed after a spate of mergers between the major crop protection product manufacturers has reshaped the industry. Dr. Phillips earned a doctorate in animal metabolism and biochemistry from the University of Reading. At the outset of his career he worked on animal metabolism and residue studies for the registration of agrochemicals and veterinary products. Subsequently he became an analyst of agricultural input companies and markets for investment banks and agri-chemical companies. He co-founded Phillips McDougall, which became a leading consultancy and data analysis company in the agrochemical and seeds industries. Now Dr. Phillips is a consultant/advisor to AgbioInvestor providing news and analysis covering the global crop protection and seeds and traits industries. Phillips is looking forward to sharing his research on the crop protection product industry and putting
it into context for aerial applicators at the Ag Aviation Expo in Orlando. Next during the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo General Session will be Ofir Schlam, co-founder & CEO of Taranis, an international agricultural remote sensing and imaging company. Similar to other ag imaging companies, Taranis utilizes satellites, manned aircraft, and UAVs to provide images of various resolutions. Satellite images provide lowerresolution images over a large area, while manned aircraft are used to collect higher-resolution images with more detail for smaller areas. What makes Taranis unique, however, is its lowlevel scouting sampling. This imaging is conducted at low altitudes just above the crop. Rather than attempt to image the entire field at this level, images are instead taken systematically across the field. This is like any other type of IPM scouting program, except the Taranis method generates far more sampling points in much less time. The images from the satellites, higher-resolution imaging, and lowlevel scouting are used together to create a detailed image of field conditions and plant health. The exciting part is that the low-level scouting imagery can be used to identify and map pests. These maps just don’t indicate a field has a pest problem—they identify exactly what that pest is, whether it be insects, weeds and diseases. All are identified by Taranis and they map it for the grower. A digital map showing pest type, location and density can be created and used to make informed decisions on when and where applications should be made. Prescription maps for variable rate applications can be easily developed from the images and data. While that sounds amazing, the most exciting part is the potential for agricultural aircraft to be a part of this program. Currently GA aircraft and

UAVs are being used to capture the scouting level images. The low-level nature of these images, however, is perfectly suited to being captured by agricultural aircraft. Taranis is currently developing a pod that can be mounted on agricultural aircraft for this very purpose. This could lead to a new revenue source for aerial applicators where ag pilots would simply fly the field, take the images and send them to Taranis for processing. There is no need to learn how to operate complicated software for image processing or map creation. That is all handled by Taranis. The potential also exists for an aerial operation to become more than just the source of the images. A precision application of a pesticide begins with scouting the field to identify the pest and determine the best option for control and ends when the application is made. Agricultural aircraft have traditionally and obviously played the end role. If they can be utilized at the beginning to scout the field, perhaps aerial applicators can become more involved in the entire pesticide application process and offer their customers a complete pest control solution. Come listen to Taranis at the 2019 General Session and see if its technology has a potential place in your operation. Taranis CEO, Ofir Schlam is a fourth-generation farmer. Raised in Israel, he comes from a family of farmers who have grown cotton and wheat for the last four generations. His professional career started when he began his B.Sc. in Math & Computer Science at the age of 16 as part of a program for outstanding students at BIU and graduated Summa Cum Laude at the age of 19. For his military service, Ofir served in an elite technological unit of the Prime Minister’s Office, where he was involved in developing and leading ground-breaking technology projects. During that time he also earned his M.Sc in cryptography at age of 22. Ofir moved up in the organization and in his last position before starting Taranis he managed an R&D department of 15 software engineers on classified projects. Ofir and his three co-founders started Taranis in 2015 with a mission to help farmers protect their crops more efficiently.

TAE Aerospace acquires Ag Air Turbines and continues US expansion TAE Aerospace announced that it has completed the acquisition of Ag Air Turbines, a turboprop engine MRO company based in Midvale, Idaho. This latest acquisition continues the Australianbased company’s expansion into the US market which saw Copper State Turbine Engine Company and Propulsion Controls Company join TAE Aerospace in February this year. TAE Aerospace CEO Andrew Sanderson said that all three companies have outstanding capabilities and reputations in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the Honeywell TPE331 engine and its associated fuel controls and components. “When we combine the strengths of our US teams with our long history and experience with the TPE331 in Asia Pacific, it puts us in the best position of any company globally to look after these engines for operators. “We are fortunate to receive strong support from Honeywell as a result of our position as the world’s largest authorized TPE331 provider, and it’s great that we can pass on the benefits of that support to our customers in the US,” Sanderson said. TAE Aerospace Vice President of US Operations, Larry Lowry said that the company already had a great reputation in the Australian ag market, and that this acquisition brings valuable market knowledge to its US business. “We are currently in a strong position with ag operators in Australia where we service around 90% of the market. “Adding the ag market knowledge, reputation and experience of the Ag Air Turbines team will be very valuable as we grow our customer base here, and will help make ag a strong market sector for us around the world,” Lowry said. “Ag Air Tubines’ existing customers will also benefit from the wider range of services we can provide, including PT6 engine and component MRO.” Lowry said that the former owner of Ag Air Turbines, Katie Bane will lead the new US Ag division of TAE Aerospace. She will be joined by husband, Garrett Bane and father, Bruce Hubler as key members of the team. Speaking about the move, Bane said: “Ag aviation is a passion I’ve shared with my family for many years and our focus has always been on providing the very best service for our customers. “This exciting transition gives us the capacity to offer even more support to our customers, and we are thrilled to continue our proud tradition in the US ag market as part of TAE Aerospace,” she said. With this latest acquisition, TAE Aerospace now has five sites across North America in Scottsdale, AZ, Kansas City, MO, Anchorage, AK, New Braunfels, TX and Midvale, ID.

Quicker Night Vision Modification on the AT-802/602 and Previously Approved Models With hundreds of Air Tractor 802A and 602 operators seeking ways to extend the utility of their aircraft, many are considering the benefits of implementing night vision program. Aviation Specialties Unlimited, (ASU) has worked with numerous agricultural operations and one firefighting operation flying the AT-802A or AT-602 to implement NVG programs. The certification process includes acquiring the NVG goggles, conducting pilot training, and modifying aircraft lighting. ASU works closely with operators to schedule installations when their busy season wraps up. The installation takes six to 12 weeks on average. The first step is an aircraft survey with detailed photos of all lit equipment. ASU designs custom drawings of your aircraft for approval by the FAA or aviation authority. Upon approval, ASU manufactures the custom parts and schedules a certified technician to install the NVIS lighting at your location or at ASU in Boise, Idaho. The FAA will then certify your aircraft, which can vary between three to eight weeks depending on the FAA schedule. The AT-802A and AT-602 as well as the PZL M18 and Thrush S2R Series have been certified and will be approved faster than models that haven’t.
The aircraft will then be returned to service and ASU will provide all logs, 337s, complete packet of drawings and all certification documentation in hard copy and electronic form for your records. NVG pilots enjoy a more consistent schedule, and extended hours of operation with fewer disruptions from field workers or traffic, improved product application, and a quicker return on their investment. ASU invites you to learn more and earn CEU credits (available in certain states) at the NAAA education session, Night Operations Safety with NVGs, Thursday, Nov. 21, 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Kimmel Aviation Insurance arose in 1972 from a need to write hard-tofind and much needed insurance on cropdusters. The insurance side of the business started very pragmatically as customers were coming to the Kimmel Aviation Ag Aircraft dealership to trade in their $500 converted Super Cubs and Stearmans for the more productive and shiny new Cessna Ag Wagons and Ag Trucks. The $20,000 price tag and the ever evolving regulatory environment in the early 1970s mandated that all certified applicators must carry a minimum liability insurance policy or a bond of $10,000. Cessna Finance also wanted to make sure their loans were protected. Very few companies would insure ag aircraft back in the early 1970s. So Dorothy Kimmel made it her mission to find that coverage for their customers. From its humble beginnings, the insurance part of the business grew and in 1972 formally incorporated Kimmel Aviation Insurance Agency, Inc.. Over the years, Dorothy Kimmel has received numerous industry awards including, but not limited to MAAA Outstanding Service Award – 1975, MAAA President’s Award – 1985, WMAAA President, 15 years WMAAA Director to the WNAAA, WNAAA Vice Pres. 1991, WNAAA President 1992, Lee Abide Award – 1998, Arkansas (AAAA) Distinguished service award 2006, MAAA Honorary Lifetime Membership Award – 2006. In addition, Dorothy also served on numerous committees and served both the NAAA and MAAA for each

of her 45+ years as a member of both organizations. Her most outstanding achievement was to raise a family of four boys, all who entered the ag aviation field and chose career paths closely related to ag aviation. Although Dorothy is still active in the agency, her youngest son, Frank Kimmel, took over the day to day operations of Kimmel Aviation Insurance Agency in 2004. Frank brings with him 14,000 hours of flying experience including 8000+ as an ag pilot. Frank also has his own pedigree of accomplishments including , 1992 John Horne Memorial Safety award (NAAA), Novartis Leadership training delegate – 1998, NAAA Related Service Award – 2008, Arkansas (AAAA) Outstanding Service Award 2008, and the MAAA Allied Industry Associate of the year 2010. In addition to the ag association awards, Frank was elected by his aviation insurance peers to serve on the Aviation Insurance Association (AIA) Board of Directors in 2005. He served as the Director of the Domestic Agents and Brokers Division until he was elected Vice President of the AIA in 2009 and then AIA President for 2011 – 2012. I
t’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but every once in a while, I come upon something that is worth repeating. I’m sure many of you have heard the 80-10-10 story that I tell when it comes to drift reduction products: 80 percent of the time nothing happens, 10 percent of the time the result is worse, and 10 percent of the time there is a definite improvement. For years, Arkansas Operation S.A.F.E. clinics have included one day of field evaluations of locally favored drift mitigation aids. The data has been quite sporadic and probably a reflection of the variety of setups, weather conditions, mixing procedures, and operating variables. With all that said, Control™ from GarrCo Products, Inc. has consistently shown positive results. Control™ has also been one of the top contenders in replicated research evaluations under a wide range of operating speeds and setups. Unsolicited applicator comments like: “Best
CONTROL DUO LS™ provides two great products – CONTROL WM™ deposition aid/drift mitigation adjuvant and a unique NIS in one easy-to-use package.
material I’ve ever used”, “Very easy to mix and load”, “I see improved efficacy” and “The material that I used to get on the windshield is gone” add validity to Control’s real world performance. Mixing and compatibility are one of the major issues with any drift reduction additive. Arkansas operators attest to the ease of mixing with Control™ under a wide range of solution characteristics. There are a lot of products available for drift mitigation and application efficiency. I encourage every applicator to check out all available data and select a product that has been thoroughly evaluated for optimum performance.

BENEFITS ■ Contains a unique, highly effective NIS blend that enhances pesticide uptake while not increasing the number of fine droplets as most NIS and oils do. ■ Contains CONTROL WM™ proven in many research and field trials to be superior at mitigating drift and increasing deposition.
Without CONTROL™
■ Multiple independent trials demonstrate a 2X higher retention of the spray solution on plant surfaces. ■ Significantly lowers evaporation of the spray droplet ■ Satisfies most label requirements for surfactant and drift adjuvant. Its higher ratio of polymer to surfactant is designed for aerial application at a low cost.

Pilots can fly to the field and make a new area for spray by visually checking the boundary, then enter the A-B line. This requires the pilot to be familiar with the areas and be able to identify the fields precisely; therefore, more time is required to fly and it is easy to make a mistake. A better way to prepare for the spray mission is to make spray fields and maps in your office and send them to the guidance system. The AgMission webapp created by AgNav will help pilots create flight planning very easily and it’s handy no matter where you are. Why not make technologies to work for you? Come to the AgNav session to see how you can plan for a safe and productive flight. Speaker: Lai Nguyen, P.Eng., AG-NAV Inc.

AeroLEDs Innovative LED Lighting Options Ideal for Bird Strike Avoidance in Low Altitude Flying BOISE, Idaho – AeroLEDs’ integrated WigWag pattern for enhanced anti-collision visibility. AeroLEDs’ continues to take full advantage of LED capabilities with the integrated WigWag feature contained in various models of their aviation lighting products. Since LEDs offer the advantage of instantaneous ‘ON’, it provides a very immediate and distinct visual cue to other aircraft and birds and thereby potentially reducing the risk of air to air collisions and bird strikes. AeroLEDs lights dissipate minimal heat and, unlike legacy lighting, are unaffected by continuous on/off cycles associated with WigWag operation. Since LEDs are solid-state, they are vibration and shock resistant and have an anticipated service life of over 30,000 hours of operation, eliminating the cost of frequent light replacements.

Can You Imagine!!! New Tech Solutions! Imagine your operation having a complete private and secure communication and data system that can connect all your company personnel and roving assets, aircraft, no matter where they are, and do the following: 1. Multiple private conversations going on at the same time, such as the Aircraft is talking to the Loader truck, the Office can be talking to the hangar crew individually or as a group, or you need to talk to your parts person that can be in the next State picking up parts, all without interfering with any of these other conversations. AS MANY combinations as required. Private and Secure. 2. All crew, Aircraft, loader trucks, etc. using the system have GPS tracking locations being broadcast for geo referencing between each other and also to the base system. 3. No longer a need for Company paid Cell phones when using the private LTE Communications system. 4. If required, any individual or talk group can join in on other conversations as needed. 5. These conversations can be either Push to Talk or FullDuplex, just like your cell phone. 6. You can add into this private communication network, IP Phones, WLAN Radios or even Satellite Phones. 7. As well, you can assign desired cell phones to have connectivity within this private secure communications network. 8. You can have operation bases anywhere and they all have direct communications within your organization. One in Georgia the other in California. One in Arkansas another in Australia. Just select the person or the talk group you need to talk to and push the button and talk, you are instantly live. 9. You do not have to depend on a tower network, your operation can be in Texas and your aircraft in Iowa and you and the aircraft/pilot are in direct communications with your organization. 10. More importantly, this is also a private and secure data network to pass your information directly amongst the data group. Using the DynaNav AirAg Office connectivity solution, you can send jobs directly to the assigned aircraft and receive the job data directly from the aircraft without being on the public internet or going through a service providers computer system, it is a private direct wireless connection to your own private system. 11. All your communication devices have GPS location that can be seen on a map wherever they are. You could have your aircraft operating in any state and your engineer on the road to meet the pilot and aircraft, and instantly know where they all are. SG 56 | agairupdate.com
12. Even better, is your private secure communications data network has a higher priority than the cell phones, as such if a cell site is having heavy traffic, it will drop a cell phone to keep your network alive and well. 13. On top of this, the voice communications are crystal clear using high definition audio. 14. You can have a PA speaker for outside your building or in your Hangar and you can select this PA from any of your communications devices to page or make an announcement, even from your couch at your home. 15. If your Office land line Internet goes down, your system stays alive with your system connected to the private secure LTE cell site. 16. No lost or poor communications to your aircraft, the aircraft radio automatically uses any cell site in range. And the list goes on and, it is up to your needs, requirements and imagination to create the connectivity voice and data environment that you require. The system can be added to at anytime to bring on new needs, it can be as small or large as needed without compromising solid communications. Another great feature is the flexibility and cost of the subscriptions for the connectivity of the devices, it is very reasonable to start and you pay only on a monthly basis. As such, if you only need to have this for five months of the year, you can shut your subscription off for any or all of the devices and only pay for which you have subscribed. No penalty. To find out more about this modern state of the art communications and data system, come visit us a DynaNav Booth 823, 825 and 827 at the NAAA show in Orlando Florida. Not only will DynaNav be introducing this technology solution at the show, but we will also be showing you our new Heads Up Display Navigation system, and show you how we can log in directly to your DynaNav GPS system, even while you are flying to give you live instant support. Service and support beyond your expectations. If you are unable to come to the NAAA show to see all the advancements we have, give us a call or look for our newsletters or announcements. If you give us your requirements and wish list, we can quote you on the complete package for hardware and monthly subscription costs. Lease or lease to purchase programs are available if needed. www.dynanav.com Ph:877-333-9626 Email: sales@dynanav.com.

Ag container collection...
…ACRC recycled end uses
Starting in 1992, We Have Now Reached an Incredible Milestone:
200,000,000 Pounds of Ag Plastic Recycled! The Ag Container Recycling Council (ACRC) recently passed a remarkable milestone in our history. In May of this year, ACRC contractors collected the 200 millionth pound of HDPE since the program was started in 1992! The first 100 million pound milestone was accomplished in 2008 after 16 years of collection. This second 100 million pound milestone was accomplished in only 11 years. Based on the current pace of collection and the pending 5-year strategic plan, the ACRC hopes to achieve the next 100 million pound milestone in less than seven years! A vital part of this accomplishment are the five active ACRC contractors; Agri-Plas Inc (Brooks, OR), G. Phillips and Sons (Stanwood, IA), Interstate Ag Plastics (Buttonwillow, CA), Montana Dept of Ag (Helena, MT) and USAg Recycling (Waller, TX). Also, a part of the collection volumes are two smaller collection sites in Dexter and Frenchville, Maine.
200 million pounds is rather mindboggling: The equivalent number of 2.5 gal jugs laid end to end would traverse the USA 20.8 times or circle the earth almost 2.3 times and would, similarly, make enough 6” ag drain pipe to cover the same distance. • The equivalent number of 55-gal drums standing side-by-side would cross the United States 1.3 times. • That volume of plastic in compacted jugs would fill a football field 481 feet high. • Recycling that much plastic is an energysavings equivalent to 43,019,361 gallons of gasoline. • Recycling that much plastic is equivalent to the energy consumption of 57,518 average American houses for a year. SG 60 | agairupdate.com
Thank you We would like to thank all of our industry participants who helped make this achievement possible over the past 27 years: • Our regular member and affiliate member companies who fund the program and their ACRC representatives • Our customers – the farmers, commercial and aerial applicators and collection sites • Our current and past contractors and their employees • State agencies and their staff • EPA and their staff • Various ag allied industry associations and finally, • Our plastic customers who have purchased those 200 million pounds of ACRC HDPE through the years! When you consider the quantity of plastic involved and the thousands of collection sites scattered across the United States, it is quite an impressive milestone. What is even more exciting is the foundation that has been established for this collection to continue, the commitment that is clear from our members and the recycling culture that continues to grow among farmers and commercial and aerial applicators! If you would like more information about the ACRC OR are a manufacturer of agricultural chemicals or related packaging and would like to learn more about membership, please visit us at www.acrecycle.org, email us at information@ acrecycle.org or call us at (877) 952-2272.

AeroFlow Systems Expanding Product Line AeroFlow Systems, known for its innovative AFS Check Valve since 1996, is expanding its product line with three new quality products for aerial applicators. AFS BOOM SHUT-OFF VALVE: Completely new design and made specifically for agricultural aircraft, the AFS boom shut-off valve is light weight at only 6 lbs. It is machined from aluminum and treated with an AFS proprietary coating which means a long maintenance-free life. The AFS boom shut-off valve can cycle from on to off in .47 seconds. It’s available in 24-volt and is controlled from a switch panel in the cockpit. Typically, installations can be from one to up to four valves per aircraft. Right or left outboard shut-off and/ or right or left complete boom shut-off, or any combination. The AFS Boom shut-off valve can be permanently mounted on the AFS spray boom or can be purchased as a separate Cam-Loc mounted unit. AFS HOPPER SHUT-OFF VALVE: AeroFlow Systems is also introducing a new hopper shutoff valve. It’s light weight, machined from aluminum and treated with AFS proprietary coatings which insures a long and useful life. The AFS hopper shut-off valve is a direct replacement for currently installed, competitive models. The AFS hopper shut-off is designed to function when you need it most and will not corrode or freeze and it is not dependent on a o-ring. It can be attached to the cable currently installed on most aircraft. AFS “EXTENDED LIFE” SPRAY BOOMS: AeroFlow Systems is also introducing new specially designed AFS “Extended Life” spray booms which are treated inside and outside with AFS proprietary coatings. Tired of struggling with unending corrosion from aluminum spray booms and cracking from heavy stainless steel booms? Check out the AFS “Extended Life” spray booms and start getting the return on your investment that you expect from spray booms. Better yet, have your booms custom made by adding the AFS Boom shut-off valves welded into both the spray boom and center section.

Lightspeed Aviation Offers an Active Noise Reduction (ANR) System for Helmets
A
viation provides the perfect noise environment for the benefits of Active Noise Reduction (ANR). Excellent at reducing the sound of the lower frequencies, ANR is a great match to the noise environment of both fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft. Over the past 20+ years this technology has exploded in the aviation headset market, but for aviators that wear helmets while they fly, the options have been limited. Enter Lightspeed, a company that introduced its first ANR aviation headset and quickly became one of the leading brands in the category. After many requests from pilots for a Lightspeed system design for helmets, the company decided to take on the challenge. Their product, dubbed “Zulu H-Mod,” is a ground-up project designed
for helmets. Based on the legacy of the company’s popular Zulu family of headsets, it boasts many of the features of the headsets while adding specific features unique to helmet installations. In addition to top caliber ANR, the installation is designed for comfort. Lightspeed uses conformal foam in the ear seals that provide both a great seal and a personally comfortable fit. The shape of the ear seals is also designed for comfortable use with prescription glasses or sunglasses. The Zulu H-Mod helmet installation puts a priority on durability and incorporates a Kevlar centered cable system for both the internal wiring and the external cable that interfaces with the aircraft. Lightspeed’s exclusive quick disconnect is designed for fast, safe egress without removing the helmet.
It has a 9-pound pull force (4 kg) and makes emergency egress even safer. With acoustic technology at the core, the Lightspeed engineering team takes great pride in how the system sounds. Your intercom transmissions will be very clear and if you choose to use the Bluetooth feature for music you’ll be amazed at how good your tunes sound. The Zulu H-Mod system is backed by a three-year factory warranty from Lightspeed and can be added to an existing helmet or included with the purchase of a new one. The system is available from select installers that have been trained and certified. A list of certified installers are available at LightspeedAviation.com/helmets and a few of them will have the product on display at the upcoming NAAA show.

(L-R) Brothers Mark and Grant Lane and Logan Lane, son of Grant.
Celebrating Over 70 Years Lane Aviation, Inc. is excited to be celebrating its 74th year in business. Our company prides itself on maintaining ethical business practices that translate into integrity for every facet of Lane Aviation. We believe this honesty is what has gained the trust of so many valued customers and allowed us to become the leading Air Tractor distributor for sales, service and support. Lane Aviation’s association with agricultural application began with George Lane and Leland Snow in College Station, Texas in 1957; Leland was demonstrating the S-2A. George gave Leland a deposit on one of the first five built! Shortly thereafter, Lane Aviation became a dealer for Snow Aircraft. Therefore, when Leland Snow developed Air Tractor, Lane Aviation’s business relationship with Snow was already well established. In 1974, Lane Aviation was selected as the first Air Tractor dealer and has since sold more than anyone else in the world. “Lane Aviation has always been a family-run company. George’s sons are both still actively involved in the company. Grant Lane serves as president of Lane Aviation and Mark Lane as a pilot, both relocating aircraft and as an aerial SG 68 | agairupdate.com
applicator during the season.” Grant has now brought a third generation to the business, and with it, a fresh perspective. Grant’s son, Logan Lane, is a commercially rated pilot with experience ranging from Air Tractors to cabin class aircraft. Relying on Grant’s lifelong experience in the ag aviation business, Logan is learning how customers have come to count on Grant’s highly personalized customer service skills. Whether a customer is upgrading their Air Tractor fleet, making a transition to Air Tractors, or moving to a turbine powered aircraft, Grant is there to offer help and advice along the way. Lane Aviation operates from its airport in Rosenberg, Texas (T54), Lane Air Park. The maintenance facility is capable of handling nearly every type of Air Tractor maintenance. This includes annual and periodic inspections, major airframe repairs and engine exchanges. The ability to perform up to and including hot section inspections, as well as great business relationships with dedicated engine shops, keeps the customer well taken care of. With Air Tractor factory training and multiple FAA-certified A&P and IA mechanics, the highest quality work can always be assured. Also located at Lane Air Park is the
fully stocked parts department of Lane Aviation, the largest stock of Air Tractor spares outside of the factory. Not only is it essential to have parts on hand to facilitate repairs made in the maintenance shop, but it’s paramount to have an extensive inventory readily available to ship to our customers. Until 2018, Lane Aviation had maintained its spraying operation since 1948. We know how to best respond to ag operators’ needs, it also helps us understand what it means to be AOG. Lane Aviation works diligently to make sure our customers get their required parts as quickly as possible. Whether a customer is two towns over or on another continent, Lane Aviation has the experience and expertise to get them back in the air. Lane Aviation, Inc. will be proudly exhibiting at NAAA’s Ag Aviation Expo in Orlando, Florida November 18-21. We invite everyone to stop by booth #819 for free draft beer and good Texas conversation. Be sure to ask about our special convention sale prices for our industry-leading Lane brakes and fans. The Lane brake and fan combination for spray pumps has been proven to be as rugged and reliable as they come. See y’all in Orlando!

Air Tractor heads into 2020 with more choices, more support, and more training opportunities for operators, pilots and mechanics. “You will see a number of aircraft component improvements available during our 2020 production cycle,” said Air Tractor President Jim Hirsch. “But we are also reaffirming our commitment to supporting our customers by introducing state-of-the-art training and more. After all, ongoing support and a product line right for any size operation are what gives our operators the confidence to grow their operations.” Hirsch reports the new Sure-Lock tail wheel is now FAA-approved and will be rolled into 2020 production airplanes. The wheel lock can be retrofit onto all models of Air Tractor airplanes. It is a bolt-on, direct replacement for existing wheel locks. A positive locking mechanism prevents loss of the adjustment point. Adjusting tail wheel alignment does not require special tools or jacking the airplane tail wheel off the ground. The locking mechanism is easily inspected and cleaned by removing the top cover. Hirsch also reported that Air Tractor’s new impactresistant windshield is coming in 2020, pending FAA approval. The much stronger, robust windshield will provide better protection from bird strikes, drone strikes and other collisions with objects while flying. New LED airplane navigation lights and strobe anti-collision lights are now FAA approved and will be on all aircraft produced in 2020. Also new Gill LT Model 7246-20AT maintenance-free sealed batteries will be offered as an option for 2020 production airplanes.
Hirsch anticipates that the new Parker Aerospace fuel pump will receive FAA approval by the end of the year. These will be added later into 2020 production. Air Tractor also recently launched training courses designed to enhance the knowledge of aircraft maintenance technicians with Air Tractor airframe and powerplant systems. Under the direction of Brian Hahn, director of Training and Education, classes are held regularly at Air Tractor headquarters in Olney, Texas. The next course is scheduled for December 2019. The course schedule for 2020 will be announced later this year. For more information, visit airtractor.com/training. Air Tractor continues to offer the widest range of aircraft to fit any operation, and no other ag aircraft manufacturer builds more value into its airplanes – from the airframe and engine, customer support, to the support of a worldwide dealer network. “We do it for our customers,” Hirsch said. “If you grow your operation, we’ve got a higher capacity plane for you. You downsize, we’ve got a solution for that, too. You retire an old plane, we’ve got the latest, state-of-the-art model ready for you - and you know we will be here to back you up.” Visit Air Tractor at the NAAA Ag Aviation Expo, booths 811 and 911 to explore what’s new at Air Tractor. See the Air Tractor 502XP on display in booth 911, and don’t miss out on exclusive auction items including a custom Gentex HGU-55 E helmet with Lightspeed active noise reduction headset, and a oneof-a-kind custom Air Tractor golf cart. www.airtractor.com

New App Puts Need-To-Know Info in PT6A Operators’ Hands We know that for many ag operators, their aircraft is their bread and butter - it’s their sole source of income. Consistent aircraft availability during the spray season is critical. To complement the dependability of our Pratt & Whitney engines, we offer many services that help operators best manage their engines, wherever they are. So we are proud to be offering our new Know My PT6 app to our range of customer-centric services
Easier Access To Relevant Information Know My PT6 is a free application for mobile devices, available via Apple and Google app stores. The app has a wide range of practical information that’s available at customers’ fingertips. It’s a handy communication tool that’s intended to be a companion to owning, operating and maintaining a PT6A engine and that complements the My P&W Power Portal. “The idea behind it is to give the PT6A community— particularly pilots, owners and operators—easy access to information that we think is important for them to know in terms of operating and maintaining their engines,” explains Yves Houde, PT6A Customer Manager. The app raises the visibility of information that might fly under the radar, but which operators need to be aware of such as the latest maintenance recommendations and service bulletins. “You can access the information 24/7 whether you’re online or offline, and you don’t have to input a user ID and password, so it’s really simple and practical.” – Yves Houde, PT6A Customer Manager
News And Updates Curated By Engine Model “What’s special about this app is that users can tailor the content for different engine models and filter out unnecessary information,” Yves notes. Upon opening the app for the first time, the user is given the option of selecting their aircraft model and manufacturer. (If you own more than one type of PT6A- powered aircraft, don’t worry— you can select as many as you wish.) News alerts and other information will then be curated accordingly. The app’s news feed includes two types of information: • Service information, such as descriptions of selected service bulletins, summaries of the key points of service information letters and updates about revisions to engine maintenance manuals, notices of Pratt & Whitney attendance at PT6A-related shows and events and SG 72 | agairupdate.com
opportunities to meet us Selected Airtime blog content providing articles of interest to PT6A operators, refreshed on a regular basis “The goal of the news feed is not to push everything. It has to be relevant to pilots and maintenance providers, especially updates that have just been issued.” – Yves Houde, PT6A Customer Manager •
One-Stop Access To Maintenance And Support Details At the core of the app is the widely used PT6A engine handbook divided into sections covering design features, engine controls, operation, maintenance, customer services and more. “Everything you need to know is there,” says Yves. The handbook sections are presented in a carousel format and can be opened directly from the app’s home page for quick access. Inside are links to relevant service bulletins. Besides the home page and the news feed, there are two more icons at the bottom of the app’s screen. These are for services and support. Clicking the services icon will give you access to a full list of designated P&W service facilities that maintain PT6A engines, a list of sales managers with their contact details and an interactive, colour-coded map showing where service is available for your engine around the world. The support section, meanwhile, conveniently gathers together contact details for all kinds of support, from the CFirst Centre to publications, warranties, ESP™ plans, rental engines and part sales. In this section, we also ask for user feedback on the app. “By using this app, PT6A pilots and operators around the world will be better informed and positioned to optimize maintenance and management of their engines, resulting in enhanced performance and availability.” – Yves Houde, PT6A Customer Manager PT6A owners and maintainers attending the 2019 Ag Aviation Expo can learn more about P&W’s latest technological innovation, maintenance and services throughout the week. PT6A Customer Manager Yves Houde will host a full-day technical PT6A seminar on Sunday, November 17, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 20 – 8:00 am, Yves Houde will also host a 90-minute session during which services and solutions such as Warranty claim process, FAST and OilAT will be discussed. We’re leveraging digital technology in many other ways to make it easier and faster for customers to do business with us. Read more about engine maintenance tips, industry insights by P&W experts and inspiring aviation stories on our Airtime blog – www.pwc.ca/ airtime-blog.

RED Aircraft Brings Lucrative Opportunities to the US Agricultural Sector
RED A03 the most powerful piston engine on the market producing 500 to 550 hp.
RED aircraft GmbH is all set to make a game changing impact on the agricultural sector, with its high efficiency and low fuel consumption engine. In collaboration with its US partner A&C Ag Aviation Inc, the company is preparing to introduce its RED A03 engine to the US Agricultural market. The company’s RED A03 engine opens up lucrative opportunities for agricultural operators who will burn nearly half the fuel of comparable turbine or radial engines. The A03 offers both flexibility and cost saving advantages by being able to burn Jet A or Diesel fuel “We expect much lower operating costs and simpler, less frequent maintenance. We are also excited to provide parts and support for this engine in the US”. —Stephen Bereza Vice President A&C Ag Aviation
“We are excited to introduce our engine to the agriculture sector; in particular. We believe that our RED A03 engine can help operators reduce their operating costs whilst increasing performance,” “What’s more, with low fuel burn, it lowers exhaust gas pollution and reduces noise emissions.” —RED aircraft CEO Vladimir Raikhlin The RED A03 piston engine is a purpose-design for aviation and is certified in the US (FAA) and in Europe (EASA). RED A03 has undergone successful agricultural conversions in New Zealand, based on the Fletcher FU-24 agricultural aircraft. ADS-B Is Drone Repellent
Under FAA rules, it is the drone operator’s responsibility to yield to manned aircraft. Vision alone may not result in enough time to yield, but if you equip with ADS-B OUT, that operator would have several minutes warning to safely act. The new and growing benefit of ADS-B OUT unique to agricultural aviation is collision avoidance with a drone. While it may not be required, it is the safe thing to do. The drones are now equipped to DAA you, help them stay out of your way, and fly safe.

Drone technologies are evolving with a focus on “Detect and Avoid” (DAA) capability to prevent aircraft collisions.
Two inescapable topics in aviation this year are ADS-B and drones. The NAAA industry survey illustrates an intersection of these topics. The data revealed a growing interest in the use of drones in agricultural aviation and a recognition of collision risk. 15% of respondents reported a drone sighting during operations, and only about 1/3 of operators intend to equip with ADS-B due to little activity in required airspace. Drone technologies are evolving with a focus on “Detect and Avoid” (DAA) capability to prevent aircraft collisions. The most effective DAA technology is an ADS-B IN receiver on the drone, when the manned aircraft is ADS-B OUT equipped. uAvionix tailBeacon and skyBeacon are the lowest cost ADS-B OUT GA products. We also develop ADS-B IN solutions for drones and have integrated them with the most popular drone autopilots in the world. In the drone industry, it is the culturally responsible thing to integrate ADS-B as the DAA technology of choice.

TracMap - Pilot Friendly After more than 10 years of using TracMap aviation GPS and job management systems, Aspen Helicopters believes their equipment is the easiest to operate and provides the most useful data set. They also say that TracMap is now the ‘gold standard’ for aviation GPS systems worldwide. Based in California, Aspen AG Helicopters operates three Jetrangers for aerial spraying and two long-range choppers (Bell 212 and Bell 407) for charter work. Their helicopter fleet is complemented by several fixed-wing aircraft. When Rob Scherzinger, one of the company’s three partners, first looked into GPS tools for his pilots he instantly recognised their value. “I immediately knew that GPS would become an essential tool for what we do. And of all the systems I researched, I felt that TracMap were the most pilot-friendly units available.” Aspen AG uses the latest TracMap FLIGHT3 system yearround to ensure the accuracy of crop spraying programmes. “Using TracMap, we spray avocados, lemons, celery, strawberries and a multitude of different types of vegetables. We’ve also assisted successful rodent eradication programmes in Hawaii, Anacapa Island in California, and about 15 islands in Mexico.”
Rob says the pilots enjoy using TracMap’s intuitive interface and believes using GPS tools makes them more conscientious and quality-focused. Rob is also impressed with TracMap’s backup. “What we like most about TracMap is their ease of use, product support and the simplicity of the interface. It does not have a lot of stuff that we never use. Everything that we need, it does well.”

Satloc Moving Forward Together with Transland
For over 20 years, Satloc has prided itself on providing the best GPS guidance and flow control products for the aerial agricultural market and will continue to do so.
SG 90 | agairupdate.com
As many of you know, Satloc was acquired by Transland in November of 2018. Since that time, Transland has been focused on putting pieces together to move Satloc into the future and beyond. In April, Transland hired Alan Haigood as Satloc Business Product Manager. Alan brings with him an extensive amount of management and engineering experience. He has been tasked with assembling a team comprising of engineers, technicians, and support staff to develop and support the best GPS guidance and flow control systems in the market. “Together with our already experienced Satloc team members of Mike Thurman, Mitch Brown and Ian McVay. We believe this is the perfect mixture to push the Satloc products into the future” says Anthonie York, Sales Manager of Transland. For over 20 years, Satloc has prided itself on providing the best GPS guidance and flow control products for the aerial agricultural market and will continue to do so. Satloc is developing the next best GPS guidance product in the market. Satloc is also working on other projects like updating our HQ asset tracking and wireless data transfer system. In the short amount of time Satloc has been with Transland we have also integrated the IF2 Dry controller system with the Transland 5”,7.5” and 10” hydraulic gate setups. With the IF2 controller the
user can interface the hydraulic gate through the G4 system. Just recently we have coupled the G4 to work with the Meterate system for low volume granular and seed-based applications. We have had many requests for a green LED lightbar, designed to accommodate night applications and we listened. Satloc now has the L7 lightbar available with green LEDs. You may purchase a new L7 lightbar with the green LEDs or buy the upgraded green LED board. Please contact your local Satloc dealer or a Satloc sales representative for details. Our market has transformed over the past few years, and we believe that adding Satloc to the Transland family is the perfect marriage. Satloc is in the hands of a company who has the aerial agricultural market in its best interests. Transland now can offer everything for your guidance and dispersal needs. We have the best names and the best brands in the market, hands down.
Support Satloc now has a new technical support phone number and email address. For your Satloc support needs you may contact us by phone/text at 8334 SATLOC (833-472-8562) or email support@ satloc.com This phone and email are monitored by multiple specialist for a quick response.

At Transland, we strive to bring our customers products that make their jobs easier and add value to their operations. With the purchase of Satloc in November 2018, Transland has been working to join Transland products to the Satloc GPS system. A great example is with our meterate system. Many have asked for the meterate to work with the G4 and this year we have it! We will have this with other Transland and Satloc joint products on display. Also, in the booth, we will have the patented, STC’d, Switchback Fire Gate system on display. Our revolutionary Switchback system transforms your Ag aircraft into an aerial firefighting platform within three hours. We continue to push forward in the aerial firefighting market with efforts to improve safety and reliability. The complete Switchback system includes an Ag Gate, Fire Gate, Controller, Spreader, and Booms with plumbing. The Switchback system can be purchased as a complete system or separately depending on your needs. Talk with our knowledgeable staff to find out if upgrading is right for you. While at the booth, explore several existing product improvements such as the new highvolume impeller for our wind driven 6.5” pumps, which significantly improves flow. Also, see the new
improvements on the CP Check Valve, now with a diaphragm lasting seven times longer than the original and four times longer than the competition. Additionally, the shut off pressure increases from 1.5psi to 15psi, eliminating dribbling of liquid past the diaphragm and giving the CP Check Valve a superior shut off hold. Join us for the annual Transland Breakfast Seminar, Tuesday November 19th, 7am at the Panzacola ¾ @ the Rosen Shingle Creek. At this year’s breakfast we would like to introduce Alan Haigood, Satloc’s new Business Product Manager. Alan will be discussing the upcoming improvements for the Satloc product line and what the future looks like for Satloc and Transland. At Transland, we are constantly working on new projects, and we always love to hear from you. Come to the booth or breakfast and share your thoughts and ideas. Our goal is to provide a complete product that meets the needs and desires of the end user, and part of how we do that is your feedback. All of us at Transland appreciate our loyal customers and want to thank you for being a member of the Transland family! We look forward to seeing all of you at this year’s Ag Aviation Expo in Orlando.

Looking Back at 10 Years in Agricultural Aviation
GE’s customers said they love the engine yet need more from service and support, the company was listening and steadily improving the H-Series.
SG 94 | agairupdate.com
In 2009, Thrush Aircraft selected GE Aviation’s H80 engine to power an improved version of its 510-gallon, 10,500-pound gross weight aerial applicator, becoming the first application for GE’s H-Series engines, which now includes the H75, H80, and H85 models. Soon named the 510G, the aircraft completed its first flight with GE engines lasting 30 minutes on November 23, 2010 in Albany, Georgia. Brad Mottier, vice president and general manager of GE Aviation’s Business and General Aviation organization said at that time, “Today’s events are a historic moment for GE and a testament to the GE and Thrush teams’ extraordinary efforts.” The aircraft received FAA certification in 2012, and less than five short years later, Thrush delivered its 100th GE-powered aircraft. GE later introduced new technology in the form of the first single-lever control on general aviation turboprops with its Electronic Engine and Propeller Control (EEPC) system on the 510G. “The singlelever control allows pilots to push for takeoff and not worry about temperatures, speeds or torque”, said Brad Mottier. Today, the H80 has been delivered on more than 120 Thrush 510Gs worldwide in 12 countries with nearly 140,000 operating hours. On numerous other aircraft models, supplemental type certificates are established to replace engines, including Walter’s M601 engine, with the H-Series. In comparison with other companies in the nearly 100-year-old agricultural aviation industry, GE is a young sprout. But over a decade, its engine gained a following. The 510G has become a favorite among its pilots, especially those working in hot and high conditions. And, with its higher cruise speeds for increased productivity, no hot section inspection requirement, and less downloading, the 510G has proven to be popular with operators as well, some owning more than one. Like many companies learning the ropes in a new industry, GE took a few lessons from its customers
along the way. This industry is as rigorous as it gets, and pilots put their aircraft and engine to the test every day. When trouble arises, at best it means a few hours of time and wages lost, and at worst it means a family is forever changed. GE doesn’t take these challenges lightly and appreciates the pride of a small business creating commerce for their community and nation. GE understands its role in a safe, fast-paced operation where uptime is key.
The 510G has become a favorite among its pilots, especially those working in hot and high conditions. When GE’s customers said they love the engine yet need more from service and support, the company was listening and steadily improving the H-Series. On today’s new H80 engines, GE has removed the engine cyclic limit, extended cycles on life limited parts, and resolved the reduction gear box and outlet system. At NAAA in 2018, GE announced its reorganized service and support team with US-based leadership dedicated to the Americas with a local support line (877-456-5387), local decision making, faster response times, and locallystocked parts. “GE Aviation remains committed to growing and supporting the agricultural aviation community. We look forward to the next 10 years and many more,” said Brad Mottier.
SHOW GUIDE
Thank you As GE marks 2019 as its 100th year in flight and 10th anniversary in agricultural aviation, we look back on the decade and ahead to the future with gratitude. Thank you to the pilots, aircraft owners, and service professionals who share our passion and commitment to ag aviation. We look forward to growing together.
