This term seems to have flown by and we are almost at the end of another year! It’s been lovely to meet and welcome new parents and children and of course lovely to see familiar faces too. I hope everyone had a good Eid and may I wish everyone a happy Christmas and New Year. Kind regards, Margot Dixon The nursery school staff have enjoyed welcoming back the returning children and meeting the children and families joining us at Abbey Green. The children have been settling back into nursery and exploring all the activities in the rooms. Everyone has enjoyed the Elmer stories and finding out about sharing and caring and being friends; and about everyone being different, special and equal.

After the Christmas break the children in the nursery school will be looking at some traditional stories. In Room 1 they will be reading The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. There will be opportunities to find out about different materials and their uses, creating large scale models and collages looking at size. The children will also find out about different jobs that people do and they will be able to act out the stories taking on the different roles. In Room 2 the children will be reading the stories of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Gingerbread Man. Again there will be lots of opportunities for acting out the stories and taking on the different roles. The children will also make porridge and test out different flavours as well as making their own gingerbread men. The stories we are reading offer lots of opportunities for sharing thoughts and ideas. We are sure you will hear all about them at home. Please share your stories with us.

The children in Purple Group and Blue Group are going to be finding out all about the changing weather and going out on some winter walks. Hopefully they will have the opportunity to explore the snow and will be able to find out about cold and ice. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back after the Christmas holiday and finding out all about what the children have enjoyed during their break.

There are lots of courses and activities running at the Centre, ESOL, Sewing, Zumba, , Baby Massage, SAT Dads, Parents Cafe and Parents Partnership as well as a several Stay and Play sessions and our Mum and Baby group. We will be holding a weekly Benefit Advice service from January. If you would like to book an appointment please contact the Centre for details.

For more information speak to a member of staff, call us on 01274 722070 or visit our website www.abbeygreen.org

Our next SAT Dads is on Saturday 11th January 2014 between 2.00pm and 4.00pm Niki hopes to see you there. Our Parent’s Cafe which is held every Monday morning between 9.00am and 10.00am is proving to be very popular. Some families have joined our ‘Parents Partnership’ which is held on the second Monday of the month. The partnership meetings offer an opportunity for families to meet with staff to discuss ideas for things that Abbey Green could do either here at the Centre or in the wider community. Recent talking points have been the parking on Green Lane, the proposed new houses opposite and the lack of youth facilities in the area. If you would like to get involved please join us on Monday 13th January at 9.00 AM

Finally we would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas, an enjoyable holiday and a Very Happy New Year

We love to see you and to hear your ideas. Are there any courses that you would like us to try and arrange? What would you like us to do during the school holidays? Please come and let us know your thoughts
