Win $1,000 to Sevenoaks Shopping Centre Those are just a few rewards that 20 local University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) students are competing for with the return of the biggest reality contest from The Abbotsford News(formerly the Intern.) One student will win the grand prize of $5,000 cash, the title of Freshman of the Year and a summer internship with the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) marketing department. “The Freshman provides students with real life experience within an organization of great significance in the city”, said Andrew Franklin, Publisher of The News. And like most great reality contests, you’re the boss.

THE CHALLENGE: Twenty UFV students will be divided into 10 teams. Each team is associated with a corporate partner in the community. One of their main tasks is to create a marketing plan for their sponsor business. They will also create a video and a full-page advertisement that will be published in The Abbotsford News Daily. All of the team projects can be viewed online at abbynews.com/contests. Teams have also been paired with a local charity and will do their best to raise dollars and exposure

- making a positive change in our community. The objective is to be the last team and finally the last individual in the running.

Starting today, readers will have the daily opportunity to fi re two teams based on a list of questions and answers completed by the competitors, marketing plan as well as their full-page advertisement and their video. Follow your favorite teams via various social media sites that the teams choose to utilize! Votes can be entered five times a day, per IP address, at abbynews.com. (Click on the contest link on our home page.) However, every contestant has immunity for the first four weeks. The News will track the weekly votes and announce them via Twitter every Thursday at 8 a.m. at twitter.com/ abbynews. In the Thursday, June 13th edition of The Abbotsford News there will be a mass elimination of seven teams. Voting for the remaining three teams will continue until Friday, June 21 at 5 pm.

Each contestant will have their own Facebook page, accessible by visiting The Abbotsford News Facebook site at facebook.com/ myabbynews. From there, voters can link to each competitor’s page or link to The Freshman fan page. Keep an eye out for other platforms used by Freshman candidates to win votes.

Lindsay Meloshinsky, winner 2010 After the internship, I continued with full time classes at the University of the Fraser Valley. I will be graduating from my degree in psychology and a minor in kinesiology in December 2013. I also travelled to Australia for a semester abroad. I had a wonderful time travelling around Australia, and also got to visit New Zealand. I am now currently working as a personal trainer with Fitness on

the Go. After I graduate I plan to do some more travelling, hopefully in Africa. I then plan to get my masters in Clinical Psychology. My overall goal is to work with eating disorder patients, specializing in sports. There continues to be a problem with young females (and males) that suffer with anorexia who are in aesthetic sports, like dance, gymnastics and figure skating. I also plan to stay a personal trainer for the rest of my life. Fitness is very import-

ant to my life and I plan to continue with that career as well. Being The Intern changed my life for the better. I learned that I did not want to pursue marketing, but with that being said I am so glad that I got to learn so much about business, because everything you do with your career, you need knowledge about business.
