CONFIDENCE

summary

concept

I wanted my project to emote the confidence, feminenity, playful, and versatility of my sunglasses. To me, accessories are a way to transform your face and your overall personality. For this project I wanted to make the pedestal represent the simplicity of a bare face while bringing attention to the flashy and bright sunglasses.

love how my final model turned out, there are many things I would have differently. First, I think I underestimated how difficult cutting such small, identical be. The first model I made had many notched from the bandsaw and did cohesive. Secondly, I would have used thicker wood right off the bat. When I revise and start over I simplified my design as to make it look more uniform together. I made the wood thicker and took time sanding it. I topped it off with and beeswax which really brought out the beautiful color of the wood with messy with stain. I would have cut the wood on a diagonal grain if I made this the piece was weak and ended up snapping. Overall, I am proud of my pushing through a difficult project and redoing it when I wasn’t satisfied with my

Convertable Comfort

For my second project, I wanted to take on a bigger, more ambitious design. In order to create a vesitile bench I created sleek, simple modules that can be arranged in many differnet ways for various uses. Each chair is constructed using 5 types of peices, joined together by miter joints and secured with splines.

Brainstorming

To begin my project I started by creating lose sketches with a stick of charcoal. These helped my explore functionality through shape, quantity, and form.

Face Space

Our first project of the semester was to create a pedestal for any object or concept of our choosing. I chose my sunglasses. I wanted my project to emote the confidence, femininity and playfulness of my sunglasses. To me, accessories are a way to transform your appearance and show off your personality. My concept is inspired by furniture design from the late 60s and early 70s. The pedestal represents the simplicity of a bare face while bringing attention to the flashy sunglasses.

I came up with many ideas for my design. I knew I wanted to emulate a face and use my face for the measurements. The reason I stuck with the basic concept of the above shape is because it presented the glasses at a easy to see angle, was simple, feminine, and fun.
