ABOUT A-DOS-FRANCOS

It belonged to the municipality of Óbidos and passed, by Decree of 7 September 1895 to the municipality of Caldas da Rainha.

According to the local population the beginning of A-dos-Francos, it was in the 9th century, but others believe it was in the 10st century. There is no fixed opinion as to the circumstances or factors relating to its genesis, however everyone agrees that it was given to the French.

Some argue that A dos Francos would have been a territory offered to the French, by D. Afonso Henriques between 1140 and 1148, as a reward for their collaboration in the conquest of Lisbon, to the Moors. Others, which would have been offered to the French, by D. Sandro I when the settlement of the lands conquered from the Moors.

Around the end of the 18th century, this parish suffers a great economic and cultural impulse. By decree of law of 7 September 1895, this parish that belonged to the municipality of Óbidos, passes to the municipality of Caldas da Rainha.

A-dos-Francos is traversed by several streams, and by the River Arnóia. The population was distributed in the parish due to the influence of the soil. The most fertile land was used for agriculture and the rest for housing.

The parish consists of small farms, located around the parish.

From 1900 to 1960 there was a demographic increase. From 1970 to 1981 there was a decrease in the number of inhabitants, caused by migratory movements. In 1981 this village had 1975 inhabitants, which corresponds to a density of 94.9 inhabitants per km2. In 1983 there was an increase in inhabitants with the return of emigrants. The population continues to devote itself mainly to agriculture.

The property is located opposite the A-dos-Francos Health Centre, with a small Supermarket and also a Grocery store and a Pharmacy 3 minutes walk away.

The center of the village is about 12 minutes walk or 2 by car where you can find Bank, Post Office, Cafes, Wine Cellar and a Private College (São Cristovão) of intermediate teaching, also providing musical artistic teaching.

The property consists of a plot of land with 1898,00 m2, and the built area is 189,00 m2.

It is registered with an uncovered area of 1715,00 m2, being 1560,00 m2 classified as rustic, and 155,00 m2 as urban soil.

All buildings were rebuilt in the 90s of the last century, being fully reinforced in cement, and offering high quality finishes.

At this time restoration works were completed of the entire property, and it was being debuted.

It features a main house, around a closed patio/garden, which also inserts an old barn, transformed into two independent lodgings, and a third small house, also for independent accommodation.

Through the enclosed courtyard you can access directly to the outside of the property.

The main house with an area of approximately 100,00 m2, consists of a big living room, with high ceiling and a dining corner with built-in cabinets on the wall, in natural wood.

The social area of the villa communicates with the remaining compartments through a corridor, with natural lighting through the roof.

It also offers another bedroom or office, and an independent bathroom.

The concrete construction also has on the upper floor a large area, where are installed two large water reserve deposits, but possible to run another room with sanitary installation.

The property implanted next to a river, has its own water hole, with large deposit of water for watering or domestic use, communicating with the reserve deposits installed on the top floor of the main house.

Being completely self-sufficient, it also has connection to the general water network of the village.

The entire electricity grid is up-to-date and in compliance with current regulations, being able to operate with the power necessary for the performance of both domestic and agricultural use.

The old barn was divided into two independent lodges with two floors.

Implanted in symmetry with independent access and connection by double French doors to the interior garden.

On the lower floor a large living room with fireplace, bathroom with shower and storage compartment.

On the upper floor large bedroom in mezzanine, and several storage.

Both have their own, independent water heating.

The third house allows several uses, having its own bathroom with shower, allowing to install an additional bedroom, or even a bar to support the social area outside the house
