Why Portugal
The year 2022 presents itself as a year of changes in the systems of attraction of new investors and residents in Portugal The new regulations of Golden Visa, or Tourist Accommodation, will certainly have a strong impact on the degree of attraction for those concerned. Above all we have to consider the large number of new options that arise. The new rules for the Golden Visa open up a substantial number of new opportunities by transferring the possibilities of installation out of urban centers and densely populated areas. The possibility of acquiring extraordinary properties in amazing locations is born. By more accessible market values, it is possible to acquire assets for renewal or not, with characteristics currently unthinkable in the areas previously provided for by law, and with a potential for enormous appreciation. The same happens for the tourist accommodation. The period of pandemic has moved tourism from traditional places to the quietest and discoverareas of Portugal. A trend that was highly profitable for those who were already in these regions and who guaranteed to stay. Discover on these pages of WHY PORTUGAL NOW some of the new options
Whatever you need, I'm here
NEW
Living comfortably in Portugal does not imply being in one of the main cities. From north to south of the country you can find options that can contribute to a stay with very special pleasures, difficult to find in a large part of the European countries. It is not necessary to repeat the importance of a mild climate during practically the whole year, with an annual sun stay equivalent to 300 days. Settling in the regions now identified to access a Golden Visa can mean only a 1hour drive to the coastal zone and major cities. The innermost regions allow a hard-to-find quality of life in any more populated urban environment. Investing the values necessary to obtain a Golden Visa today means being able to acquire assets with an extraordinary valuation capacity in the medium or long term. From the Historical Heritage available to unique properties with areas of land of the most varied dimensions, numerous options are possible to find both for those who want to recover and adapt to their personal taste, such as enjoying properties ready to live of great quality, impossible to obtain in the most populated regions.
OPTIONS Red zone – where residential properties will no longer be eligible for Portugal Golden Visa starting from January 1, 2022 Yellow zone – where residential properties will no longer be eligible for Portugal Golden Visa starting from January 1, 2022, with exceptions in some parishes Green zone – where residential properties are still eligible for Portugal Golden Visa

ALENTEJO Alentejo is a region of Portugal that we consider to be very special. It is a region that extends from the south-center of Portugal (beneath Lisbon) down until the Algarve region and has some unique social, cultural and historical characteristics. There are a lot of things that make Alentejo very special. There are also amazing beaches in Alentejo as Comporta, Zambujeira do Mar or Vila Nova de Mil Fontes. These are some of the things we think really make Alentejo a special (and different) place in Portugal: Weather, Nature, Food, The cultural and historical sites.
As you might know by now, we Portuguese people are very proud of their weather. “The sun shines more than 300 days a year in Portugal”. We suppose that in Alentejo, the number must be even higher. In the winter, the temperatures are quite normal considering the country’s average. If you really enjoy being in complete peace, in the middle of nature, with not much going on, and having all the time in the world for your own thoughts, living in Alentejo may be a great option. In the spring, everything is green and beautiful. The trees begin to blossom and the birds begin to make themselves heard. Even in the bigger cities, like Évora or Beja, it is possible to enjoy the beauty that Alentejo has to offer. The immense olive tree fields and the hills are breathtaking. Here and there, some white, typical Alentejan houses. Concerning the cost of living Alentejo, we would say that it depends on your choices. Food costs about the same as in the rest of the country. It is the housing that can make a bigger difference. Depending on whether you wish to live in the center of a major city in the region, like Évora or Beja, or you wish to have a more peaceful life in the middle of nature, in a small town, the prices can vary. For instance, in smaller inland towns you can find houses 2x times cheaper than in Évora or Beja. By living in Alentejo you will feel part of a region of its own life, culture, and history. If the fact that you may have to travel sometimes in order to get access to some public services or to go shopping at big shopping malls presents no problem, then consider it. Everything else around you will make it worth it. If, on the other hand, you feel like leaving Alentejo for your retirement days and enjoy the busy life of the bigger cities, for now, that’s also an option.

In the Alentejo lands is perfect the relationship between the regional dishes created by the people of the land and the wines produced there. The diverse flavors of typical gastronomy are a reflection of the wise use and combination of excellent aromatic herbs, olive oil and bread. In the starters there is never a lack of traditional Alentejo bread, accompanied by olives, goat or sheep cheese and black pork sausages... Over time, regional Alentejo cuisine has been enriched, in large part, by the influences of a climate of marked characteristics that outlined the contours of the mode and quality of life of the Alentejo people. The use of imagination and what is at hand without great costs was the perfect solution. Thus appeared at the kitchen table the Alentejo Açorda, the Migas of asparagus brave with eggs, the Favada, the pork migas, the lamb stew or the beautiful hunting dishes made with rabbit, hare, partise or boar. The selection of wine is currently an art promoted by the numerous producers with international reputation. The alliance between gastronomy and Alentejo wines was elected as one of the main attractions, which make Alentejo a region of option.

TALKING ABOUT MADEIRA ISLAND Madeira is a land of marvellous landscapes and living there has never been easier. Located around 1000 km from mainland Europe and 500 km from Africa, the archipelago is made up of four groups of islands: Madeira, Porto Santo, Desertas and Selvagens. Of these, only the two largest, Madeira and Porto Santo, are inhabited. The other two, Desertas and Selvagens, are nature reserves. If your definition of quality of life means safety, tranquillity, natural beauty and little traffic, then Madeira could be a good option. The island of Madeira is characterised by an amazingly mild climate, all year round, ranging between 25º Centigrade in the summer, and 17º Centigrade in the winter, and with very moderate humidity.

Cheaper housing and food contribute to a lower cost of living than on the mainland, especially when compared to cities like Lisbon and Porto. VAT is slightly lower than on the mainland . The absence of tolls and shorter commutes help keep monthly expenses down as well. This is one of the main attractions for people looking to move to Madeira. Set out on a boat ride along the coast, from where you can observe dolphins, wales and monk seals that cross the Madeira seas, or if you are into more radical activities, you can paraglide or hang glide over the island, or discover the mountains by canyoning. But if you prefer more peaceful activities, then golf, trekking or hikes are excellent alternatives to get to know the natural characteristics of this evergreen archipelago up close.
