OLD TOWN AND IS NEI The historic heart of Lisbon is the Old Town. The area consists of a number of districts that each have its own atmosphere and unique attractions. Graça, a hilltop neighborhood has stunning views of outdoor cafes. In the Castle of São Jorge, built in the 6th century, which dominates the hillside overlooking Alfama, and Mouraria, neighborhoods where we can discover the Moorish history of the city. In the center of Baixa with its large squares full of neoclassical buildings and cafes, we find a district that was rebuilt after the Lisbon earthquake and was one of the first cases of urban planning in Europe, with pedestrian avenues, decorative arches and theaters. Chiado, a district full of 16th-century buildings where designer boutiques and antique bookstores are installed. Sitting in cafes is staying where Lisbon's artists and literary personalities once met and worked.
Bairro Alto, with its mix of 16th and 19th century houses, was once a working-class neighborhood, but now houses some of the city's most popular bars. In the evening, grab authentic Portuguese music at Alfama's fado bars, enjoy tapas and wine at Bairro Alto or sip rooftop cocktails in Chiado, overlooking the city.

R ALWAYS PRESENT Visible from a distance of any of Lisbon's famous seven hills, the Tagus River is a lasting symbol of the city. Lisbon's river port is one of the busiest in Europe, and numerous container ships and cruise ships sail to the city along the Tagus. Tourist boats and ferries also travel along Lisbon's waterfront. Originating in western Spain, near the Portuguese border, the Tagus River flows through central Portugal before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean west of Lisbon. The entire area of the Tagus estuary is rich in relics. Many prehistoric remains were discovered on the north bank of the river. The evidence of the Roman era is abundant throughout the area of the Port of Lisbon, witnessing settlements along the estuary coastline. The Moors occupied Lisbon in the year 714. The trade they developed turned Lisbon into a prominent port. During the Golden Age of Portugal (15th-17th centuries), explorers Henrique, the Navigator and Vasco da Gama set out for the new world along this river, and was an essential part of the trade route in the following centuries as the riches of India and Brazil were discovered in Portugal. In today's Lisbon, the Tagus River remains an important part not only of natural beauty, but also of the day-to-day life of all who can enjoy the pleasure of its presence and beauty.
