President's Message Happy New Year to all of you! As we start 2015, two big changes happen in Abiva. First is the No Saturday Work—this serve as an affirmative contribution to all of you to have a work-life balance. This is also a positive reinforcement to achieve our goals and aspirations for the year. Second, is the provision of office uniforms — I am happy to see employees wearing proudly their uniforms with Abiva logo embedded on it. This brings so much pride and joy in all of us in the Abiva Family. We have many more projects lined for the year. I am sure with your determination, positive disposition, and unwavering dedication, we will succeed what we have plan for 2015 and onwards. Let’s all rally for a great year!

social media etiquette in the workplace!

A

biva’s HR Department circulated last December 2014 the company’s first ICT acceptable use policy and guidelines. One of the key points that were highlighted is on the policy and procedure for Social Media. Although nothing in the company policy prohibits employees’ right to communicate with colleagues, social media account should not be used to disclose confidential information, comment inappropriately about a colleague, about the work of others or about the company, its operations, or products, and services.

Basic social etiquette is similar to office etiquette. The employees need to be respectful and professional in their posts. Posting profanity, obscenities or making negative comments is unacceptable behavior. You need to remember that when you post comments online, it stays out there online, so beware of your post. One need to be responsible, think about what you are posting before you make it public. It is so important that you do not discuss any company business, violate confidentiality or internal information-- more so if you are a representative of your organization. Employees are expected to maintain the confidentiality of the company’s trade secrets and private information. One should never engage in conduct in an online environment that adversely affects one’s performance and morale, or

that of their co-workers, or that will compromise the interests of clients. Never write something out of anger, spite or personal vendetta.

Simple Reminder

THINK before you CLICK! Always be polite and professional in your posts DON’T spread malicious gossip or content Report negative, suspicious or harmful content to the appropriate person DON’T share personal or proprietary information Adhere to the organization’s social media policy AbivaLeads Volume I., Issue No. II | 2

Abiva launches its textbook development plan for the K to 12 Senior High School Core Curriculum

for Grades 11-12

A

biva Publishing House, Inc. (APHI) marks an important event in its intensified textbook development program for 2014 and onwards. Responding to the academic community’s anticipated need for K-12 curriculum-compliant textbooks for the upcoming rollout of Grades 11 and 12, APHI, through its president, Mr. Jorge Abiva Garcia, approved the implementing rules and guidelines for the proposed production of a complete lineup of titles catering to the instructional requirements for the senior high school core curriculum. Fourteen writing teams composed of 24 brilliant minds from different universities and colleges, all experts in their respective fields, were introduced to APHI’s executives and managers last October 11, 2014. Sir Jorge stressed the need for partnership between educators and book publishers to come up with quality learning materials that are relevant, innovative, and responsive to the curricular call of the times. He welcomed the new set of book writers and assured each one that the House will extend its full support of the authors’ efforts in writing excellent textbooks for the senior high school.

The initial wave of authors for Grades 11 and 12 books, were commissioned by Abiva from the country’s most prestigious colleges and universities such as the University of the Philippines–Diliman, University of Santo Tomas, De La Salle University, Philippine Normal University, and Miriam College, among others. More authors for grades 11 and 12 are soon partnering with APHI in the development of K-12-compliant textbooks.
