THE SHIP AT DUNWICH The Ship at Dunwich looks and feels just as a coastal pub should. Mirroring its seaside surroundings, the cosy bar and restaurant are decorated with blues and greys, and the 16 comfy bedrooms are decorated in a style inspired by big skies, beach combing and driftwood, where any salty sea dogs are welcome to stay. The menu features old school, coastal favourites and guests can also enjoy dining alfresco at the Field Bar & Kitchen in the garden, serving
woodfired pizzas and seafood dishes, washed down with a pint of beer or a glass of pinot.

MARTELLO TOWERS These defensive towers were inspired by an ancient watch tower at Mortella Point, Corsica. 103 were built, but their destinies have varied: some demolished, some lost to the sea, some destroyed during artillery testing. The survivors can be found s cattered across Britain, a number of them in Suffolk. There are 4 towers still standing at Felixstowe, three of which are private and unused, and one has been converted into a home. One tower has been converted into a SUFFOLK COAST THE GUIDE 2022-23
house in Hollesley, and a further two towers are unused in Bawdsey. The largest remaining tower – which actually comprises of four towers joined together - is called Martello CC and is in the south of Aldeburgh. It is owned by Landmark Trust, and is available for rent.
