BAME Women Councillors Taskforce set up in 2008. These women's voices are not heard in the councils, according to Harman. She said, “These women are important in their families, community and the economy but were missing in local government. We already have had increased participation and we will continue doing so.” Although there are doubts about the manifesto being launched too close to the elections, neither of the other two parties have come up with anything similar for BAME communities.
Indian High Commission in Islamabad had moles working against the country itself. In a sensational case of spying by Indians for Pakistan, a woman diplomat posted there was arrested last week after she was summoned to New Delhi. Another official of the Indian mission is also under scanner according to officials of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. Kanwal Sibal, a retired foreign secretary, reacting to the arrest described it as a shocking incident. He added, it is perhaps the first ever case of an Indian official being caught on charges of spying for Pakistan. A ministry spokesman, Vishnu Prakash confirmed the development, as he
said that the matter is under investigation. The official concerned is cooperating with our investigation and enquiry. A report in one of the Indian news channels, NDTV has said, Madhuri Gupta has allegedly confessed that she did it for the money and because “service conditions were bad”. Sources also claim that she was involved in romantic relationship with her Pakistani handler, a man called ‘Rana’. The spokesman also said the station head of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Islamabad R K Sharma is also under the scanner. A promotee officer of Ministry of External Affairs, 53-year-old Madhuri Gupta, was

arrested from her East Delhi home in the previous week after she was summoned to Delhi on the pretext of discussions on the current SAARC summit meeting held in Thimpu, Bhutan. Madhuri Gupta, a second secretary working in the Indian Mission in
Islamabad for nearly three years, allegedly passed on extremely sensitive information to her contacts in ISI till her movements came under surveillance of Intelligence Bureau. Home Secretary G K Pillai said Gupta had been passing information to Pakistani agencies. The sources said Gupta, a spinster, is alleged to have been taking information from the RAW station head in Islamabad R K Sharma which was passed to the Pakistani spy agencies. The sources added that the role of Sharma had also come under scanner for allegedly abusing his position and passing information to Gupta. Continued on page 24 - 1"( "##" /%1" #-+) /$ ,-%(
