THE PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT WAS TO FAMILIARIZE MYSELF WITH THE BASIC FUNCTIONS OF RHINO, SPECIFICALLY POINT MANIPULATION. AFTER TAKING PHOTOS OF MY HANDS, I SIMPLY USED POINTS TO TRACE THEM AND ALL OF THE DOMINANT LINES WITHIN THEM. PRIMARY POINTS WERE TAKEN FROM THE ENTIRE 2D POINT SYSTEM THEN DIFFERENT COLORED LINES WERE USED TO CONNECT A POINT TO ITS CORRESPONDING POINT ON THE OTHER HAND. THE IDEA OF HANDS CLAPPING WAS USED WHEN CREATING THE 3D GRID SYSTEM. CONTROL POINTS WERE THEN USED TO MANIPULATE THE 2D CURVES INTO 3D CURVES BY TAKING THE PRIMARY POINTS OF THE ORIGINAL TRACING AND CONNECTING THEM TO SIMILAR POINTS WITHIN THE NEW 3D GRID.

THE FOCUS OF THIS ASSIGNMENT WAS CURVES AND HOW TO MANIPULATE THEM TO CREATE SIMPLE SURFACES BASED ON A PHYSICAL SURFACE CREATED WITH A CLOTH PINNED TO A GRID. MEASUREMENTS WERE TAKEN FROM THE PHYSICAL SURFACE. USING THE GRID AND THE MEASURMENTS TAKEN, THE SURFACE WAS TRANSFERRED INTO THE DIGITAL WORLD. THAT SURFACE WAS THEN MANIPULATED AND TRANSFORMED INTO A NEW SURFACE BUILT UP OF A GRID OF X AND Y CURVES.

BISYMMETRICAL HENDECAHEDRON
FOLD_01
THE BISYMMETRICAL HENDECAHEDRON IS A SPACE FILLING POLYHEDRON MADE UP OF FOUR ISCOSCELES TRIANGLAR FACES, TWO LARGE RHOMBIC FACES, AND ONE SMALL RHOMBIC FACE (SQUARE), AND FOUR KITESHAPED FACES.

GEOMETRIC FLEXIBILITY BEGINNING WITH A SIMPLE PAPER STRIP, I MADE A SIMPLE MODULE IN WHICH I COULD EXPLORE DIFFERENT CONNECTION TYPES IN ORDER FOR DIFFERENT GENERATIVE ASSEMBLIES TO BEGIN TO FORM. ONCE A SIMPLE SURFACE OF THE MODULE WAS CREATED, THEN SEVERAL TRANSFORMATION EXPERIMENTS OF THE MODULE TOOK PLACE. WITH THESE NEW TRANSFORMED MODULES CAME NEW WAYS OF CONNECTING THEM AND SO A NEW SURFACE CONSISTING OF ALL MODULE TYPES WAS CREATED.

PANELING TOOL VARIABLE SURFACE 09
VOLUMETRIC SURFACE for this assignment we were to experiment and become efficient in using the paneling tools within the rhino software. after making and simply manipulating a plane surface, one can can use the paneling tool to copy a simple module (solid or series of lines) across the surface. the tool allows the user to input several properties so that the the module being layed over the surface can have variations to it allowing for a more complex finished surface. one can also use the paneling tool to overlay a module onto a 3-dimensional surface.
