The new space has 6,400 spare feet in contrast to the present location with 3,000 square feet. “We ran out of space and need a lot more room. We’re tripping over each other,” said board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eric Humble. In addition to having more space, “The new building allows us to keep everything in-house so it’s under our direct control to make sure everything is done right.” The new building will allow for expansion. “There are a couple of services we want to add with our new building that we’re not able to add here. We’re out of space.” “We just launched a new procedure, Ultherapy®, which is an ultrasound tightening of muscles under the skin without surgery, also known as the lunchtime facelift.” Sugar Land Face and Body is the first med spa in the local area to offer Ultherapy®, a revolutionary new nonsurgical

procedure that lifts and tones loose skin without any down time. This innovative ultrasound treatment strengthens skin from the inside out in a completely non-invasive way. After just one 60 to 90 minute procedure, the skin on your face and neck gradually reflects a more refreshed, uplifting appearance. “We have already seen great results with this procedure, and it gives us an alternative to those patients who are not quite ready for a facelift. It is a great procedure for those patients who need age-prevention. We have successfully treated many of our patients in their 40’s to their 70’s who wish to prevent aging and sagging skin or to remove a couple of years from their looks,” said Dr. Humble. Another procedure provided is CoolSculpting®, a breakthrough, noninvasive procedure that uses cooling technology to noticeably eliminate fat without surgery. “The fat cells get marked for death, and there is a natural mechanism that rids them from your body. They are eliminated by a natural process.” In contrast, when you diet, Dr. Humble explained that fat cells simply shrink. “When you gain weight, your fat
cells get bigger. When you lose weight, your fat cells are still there; they are just smaller. With CoolSculpting®, the fat cells are eliminated.” The treatment lasts one hour per area, and there is no down time for the patient, which is an amazing benefit. “You don’t have to recover,” said Dr. Humble. “There is no anesthesia or risk from anesthesia, no needles, no diet, no pills. You don’t have to take time off of work. You can have an hour of treatment per area, and you go back to doing whatever you need to do. It’s easy, and it works.” CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared to treat the abdominal area, the flank area more commonly referred to as muffin tops, back fat and love handles as well as the post-pregnancy pooch area. The procedure is effective at treating these unwanted pockets of fat by chilling them to 5 degrees centigrade. According to Dr. Humble, patients return after eight weeks and take photos to measure the results. “The least amount that anyone lost in a trial was 10%. The average loss is 22.5%. Patients are getting phenomenal results with CoolSculpting.”

“Our two incredible sons have great opportunities in Sugar Land, and they have already started building a great foundation for a blessed life, ” said Dr. Humble. Most patients can tell a discernible difference within a couple of weeks with CoolSculpting even if the scale shows no change. “I tell my patients to throw out their scales,” said Dr. Humble. “Fat doesn’t weigh very much. Weight is all skin and water; fat cells themselves are very light.” CoolSculpting is not a treatment for obesity nor is it a substitute for liposuction. A typical candidate is someone who is 15 to 20 pounds overweight and has pockets of fat that are resistant to exercise and diet.
Features of the New Building “We built the building because we had the means to do so, and we’re getting so busy. We need the space. I was very lucky to meet Don Janssen with Planned Community Developers, and he offered us a perfect location. The tract is between Best Buy and the feeder road of Hwy 59 at Sweetwater Boulevard at 16926 Southwest Freeway. We’re basically on an island, so we have control of the parking situation. We wanted ways to get in and out without everyone noticing.” “The new building will feature a beautiful atrium with a 30-foot tower and a private library where the patient’s family will be able to relax while their loved one is having surgery. There will also be a track to my office to see my patients, and another track for where the spa patients go. A portico will provide privacy and comfort as patients exit the building to the parking lot.” “It will be a spa-type atmosphere designed to look like an elegant house. For example, there will be real drywalled ceilings with scone lights that shine up on the ceilings, down the hallways; therefore, it looks very comfortable, and we can control the lighting so it’s more spa-like.” A new operating room will be added which will be completely separate and accessed through two separate doors – a front door for the patient and a back

and helping with the patients. In addition to dealing with the cosmetic surgery issues, he also oversees some of the spa patients and discerns if they are Ultherapy® candidates or face lift candidates. With integrity and honesty, Dr. Humble consults with each patient in depth to find the best ways to enhance his or her facial features or body shape. In an effort to each the optimum, most natural results, Dr. Humble gives his expert recommendation on each individual case, even if the course of action means a less invasive – and less expensive – method to achieve the desired aesthetic look. “I take an active role in deciding if the patient would be a good candidate for CoolSculpting® or a Tummy Tuck. We tell the patient the advantages and disadvantages of each option.”
Here to Stay door for the staff. For privacy, outside doors will also be available for patients to leave the building. “We acquired topof-the-line equipment for the operating room that I’ve been actively purchasing for two years. We have contracts ready to go and are entering the final stages of construction. The anticipated completion date of the new building is December 2012.”
Skillful and Compassionate Dr. Humble is fully trained in head and neck surgery, is board certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is a member of the renowned American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is not only skilled in his field, but he is also personable and compassionate. Along with his caring staff, Dr. Humble provides a safe and welcoming environment in which patients can reach their goal of finding happiness in the way they look and feel. Lamar Consolidated Independent School District to Build 600Seat Natatorium
FAMILY TO FAMILY ADOPTIONS
Is interviewing prospective foster care and adoptive parents in their offices at: 1000 Austin Street Richmond, Texas 77469 From 10am to 4pm Monday through Friday
Come meet the staff and learn Natatorium Site
At its November meeting, the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (LCISD) Board of Trustees approved a plan to build a 600-seat competition natatorium on the current site of the Lamar Consolidated High School baseball field. The Mustang baseball team will play in a new 315-seat stadium, located slightly north of the current location and across Mustang Avenue. The stadium sits on property the District already owns, bounded by Radio Lane, Herndon Drive and commercial development that faces Avenue H. The new baseball stadium will be ready by January 2014. The new natatorium is scheduled for completion before the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. The Natatorium Master Plan team, comprised of Central Office administrators, representatives from LCISD’s facilities, maintenance and athletics departments, design consultants and the District’s program manager made the recommendation to the Trustees. The new design will provide 222 additional paved parking spaces for Traylor Stadium with room for additional parking. The construction of the new natatorium will be executed as part of the renovations to Traylor. Both projects were approved by voters in the 2011 bond program. Long-range plans call for practice pools for Foster, George Ranch and Fulshear high schools to be funded in future bond programs. The current LCISD Natatorium will serve as the practice pool for Terry High School.

High School HOT SHOT
By Lauren Dante
La’Darius Harris: Mr. Cheer
R
ah rah for La’ Darious Harris! La’ Darius is a spirited junior at Lamar Consolidated High School. As the only male on the cheerleading squad, La’ Darius is not afraid to follow his dreams and break any barriers that he comes across with a positive attitude. He brings not only spirit but also genuine enthusiasm to his squad and the school. La’ Darius began cheering in seventh grade for his junior high school. “I saw the cheerleaders at my junior high and knew that I wanted to do that,” said La’ Darius. “So, I tried out and have loved the sport ever since.” La’ Darius has been on the varsity squad since ninth grade and is the captain of the squad as only a junior. He views cheerleading as his life and plans on pursuing it in the future. At cheer camp this past summer the squad was very successful. The squad was nominated for the Best Squad award, won three spirit sticks and the Herkie award. La’ Darius was able to take captain classes that helped him to assess and improve his leadership skills. Even though La’ Darius was the only male cheerleader at camp, he did not let it diminish his spirit. La’ Darius’ favorite part of cheer camp is the dances. He is always chosen to learn the advanced dance routines. For stunting purposes, La’ Darius is the main base or the back spot. He enjoys stunting with his squad and likes to do basket tosses and anything with extensions and full-downs. As a cheerleader, La’ Darius performs
La’Darius at the school’s sporting events as well as at pep-rallies. “The thing that I like most about cheerleading is the crowd involvement,” said La’ Darius. “The football crowd is always fun and energetic, and in my opinion, football is the best sport to watch.” The cheer squad has become very active in the community this past year. Just a few weeks ago, the squad was at Bob’s Tacos promoting an upcoming football game. The squad also hosts pep rallies for the local junior high and elementary school to pump up their school spirit and for the kids to enjoy. In the spring, the squad visited senior citizens and played cards and performed songs with them. Not only is La’ Darius a talented cheerleader, he is also a fast runner. He joined the track team to carry on his family tradition and is quite a competi-
tor. His brothers and dad were talented track stars, so La’ Darius thought that he would give it a shot. He runs the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 4X1 relay and 4X2 relay. His favorite race is the 200-meter dash because he feels that it is his best race, and he focuses on this race the most during practice. La’ Darius has won first and second places in the 200-meter dash at the track meets and first in his relay races at the meets. Although he is a talented runner, La’ Darius does not enjoy running. He gets really nervous before the meets, but in the end, he enjoys doing it because he does well at the meets. In addition to doing well at the track meets, La’ Darius also does well in school. He is an Honor Roll student who takes Advanced Placement classes. “My favorite subject is history,” said La’ Darius. “I feel like I can connect with history and it is easy to understand.” For one of his elective classes, La’ Darius is taking a journalism course. Through this class, La’ Darius discovered his love of journalism. In the future, La’ Darius would like to attend Texas A&M and major in journalism. He is interested in becoming a sports reporter because he feels that it would be interesting to meet the players and get their perspective on life outside of their sport. In addition, La’ Darius wants the world to recognize cheerleading as a sport. Keep on cheering La’ Darius, and we will be cheering you on from the sidelines!

he Central Fort Bend Chamber Alliance’s Board of Directors recently voted to approve the launch of the Chamber’s Fulshear Area Business Division (FABD). Last week, at the Division’s first meeting, officers were selected. Michael Martin of Martin Mortgage was elected Chairman. Juan Garcia of Victor’s Mexican Restaurant and Grill was named Vice Chairman. Randy Stacy of Texas Insurance and Gilbert Limones of First Victoria National Bank were elected Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. The FABD is comprised of businesses in the city limits of Fulshear and its immediate surrounding areas. The Division is designed to allow Fulshear-area businesses the opportunity to maintain their own distinct identity while at the same time allowing them the benefits of Chamber affiliation. The Division’s goal is to increase regional awareness of what the growing Fulshear business community has to offer and to serve the needs of that business community as they arise. Since 2009, the Chamber has helped the City of Fulshear produce its annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and has helped with the promotion of its other annual events. The FABD meets at 7:30 am on the first Tuesday of each month at various locations. Sugar Land Face and Body
Q:
Are there cosmetic procedures available that do not require lengthy recuperation time? A: Yes, there are currently two procedures that Dr. Humble at Sugar Land Face and Body recommends depending on which target areas you are looking to improve. Both procedures allow patients to walk in and out of the practice with no downtime, and they are CoolSculpting® and Ultherapy.
CoolSculpting is a procedure that “freezes the fat” with no down time. After eight weeks, you will notice a difference in the area that you had the treatment on, whether it be your stomach, love handles or thighs. Clients are thrilled to learn about this non-invasive, easy and quick procedure. Depending on your treatment area, you can walk out in 70 minutes. Ultherapy is a new type of non-surgical procedure for the face that stimulates the body’s own natural healing process
to lift the skin over time. The use of FDA-cleared ultrasound technology enables physicians, for the first time, to see and then treat the deepest support layers of the skin – typically addressed in cosmetic surgery – without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. The treatment typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes. Afterward, patients are able to return to normal activities right away, and there are no special measures they need to take. With just one Ultherapy treatment, the lifting process is initiated, but the effect will build gradually over the course of two to three months, as new, stronger collagen is created. For more information about procedures offered at Sugar Land Face and Body Plastic Surgery, call 281-313-0555 or visit beautybecomesyou.com.
Discover the QuickLift® Difference
P
lanning cosmetic surgery is an exciting process. A desire to feel better about yourself and fit into your older dress size is a common reason to consider cosmetic surgery. When that feeling goes beyond a basic dissatisfaction in your appearance and becomes a more serious frustration, it is more important to think about the reasons you’re thinking about it. For example, it’s not unusual for someone to be a few pounds overweight and to want liposuction. The best way to get a better shape in that case is to lose the weight. The shape of the area will certainly improve as well as your general health. Liposuction is not a good way to lose weight. In fact, clients who are significantly overweight are very poor candidates for it. It is not a cure for being overweight, but is

intended to tailor body shape. Patients find that getting the right shape only reduces their weight by a small amount. In order to keep your weight down, it’s important to exercise and eat right. L
ooking for a natural way to improve bone health, balance and strength? OsteoStrong™ is the answer! OsteoStrong™ is not a gym, and weekly sessions are only a few minutes. Members are seeing amazing results – improved balance, bone density, and strength – at any age. You won’t even sweat, and we don’t prescribe drugs! We use patented technology that delivers results and helps people with Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis and joint or back pain. For those wanting to increase strength without wasting time or having to endure soreness – OsteoStrong™ is for you, too. Most people lose bone density after the age of 30. We are bombarded with commercials telling us to take potentially harmful drugs for osteoporosis and other conditions. Your doctor may even recommend heavy weight bearing exercise, because losing bone density is a serious problem. One in two women and one in five men will experience a bone fracture after the age of 50. Local member Lynn H., age 50, has increased her bone density by 10 percent in just six months. Richard M., age 85, improved his posture and stopped using his cane in two months. The OsteoStrong™ system was originally designed for athletes and Olympians to provide a competitive edge. When doctors saw the quick results, they wanted their patients to use it. Seven years later, over 22,000 people are benefiting with reversed bone loss shown through DXA Bone Scans, strength gains, and thousands of testimonies. Members report improving their quality of life. OsteoStrong™ is located at1876 FM 359 in Richmond. Call 281-762-0944 to schedule your free visit today, or visit www.OsteoStrong.me.

Incorporating Nutrition in Cosmetic Surgery
“Y
ou are what you eat” is a phrase that has been around for quite some time, and it is evidenced by the breakthroughs we continue to make in nutrition. Diet is beginning to play a crucial role in our overall vanity, and with excellent reason. Having a proper and balanced diet that meets your individual needs is not only beneficial towards your health, but can make drastic improvements in your overall appearance. In regards to cosmetic surgery, it is extremely important that we fuel our bodies with key nutrients to aid in the healing process. Not only will this boost your immune system, but it will also improve your recovery immensely. Researchers have discovered that an appropriate diet has proven to significantly improve and reduce swelling, inflammation, bruising, and even grogginess following surgery. If you are investing in your appearance, make it well worth it by giving your diet and health a little TLC. At Sugar Land Plastic Surgery, we want to make sure you are as healthy as possible following surgery and long after. We are proud to introduce Nutrition services at Sugar Land Plastic Surgery, including a medical grade vitamin line and Nutrition Counseling to further enhance your quality of life. Whether following a cosmetic procedure or focusing towards your overall health, we are here to help you out in the long run and strive to meet every individual’s beauty, health and wellness needs. ateway America is like no other school. I have been to public and private schools. Now, as a junior, I am at Gateway America and could not be happier. A year ago at my private school, I was miserable. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the people there and the adults in charge, but I was doing homework 24/7. Stressed to the max, something needed to change. My parents started looking into other schools. Gateway America caught our attention because they do not believe in homework. Students get their work done there. My only concern was that I would be learning from a computer, not teachers. Turns out computers are much more reliable and learning the material myself is easier and more time efficient. Gateway is preparing me for college. I am taking college courses at Wharton as a sixteen-year-old and getting the grades I want. Gateway teaches its students how to take notes and study, thus preparing us more efficiently for college. One of my favorite things we do at Gateway is write in our affirmations book every morning. We write out ten Continued on page 26

arate is one of the best gifts parents can give their child to prevent bullying. Shawn Vicknair, owner and Chief Instructor at Lone Star Karate, explains, “One of the biggest reasons parents bring their children to Lone Star is to help with bullying.” The traits learned from karate like confidence, discipline, respect, self-control, self-defense and developing leadership have proven to reduce the likelihood that a child will be bullied or become a bully. Confidence helps prevent a child from becoming an easy target for bullies. Self-discipline allows a child to manage his or her behaviors so as not to provoke a bully. A warning sign of bullying is a low self-image and a loss of self worth. Karate teaches children to have self-respect and to expect to be respected by others. Many victims of bullying do not recognize that their own behavior can trigger bullying. Karate also teaches self-control, which allows children to control their own behaviors that may stop a negative situation. Karate students learn various self-defense techniques that will help if bullying escalates to physical violence. Bullies lack empathy and ignore the feelings of others. Karate can prevent bullying by helping bullies develop the capacity for empathy in fellow students. Next time you are looking for an activity for your child, consider Karate, which can proactively change your child. Lone Star Karate is located at 222 FM 359 at Hwy 90 in Richmond. ince 1941, Holy Rosary Catholic School (HRCS) has been offering excellence in education for Pre Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Situated on 27 tree filled acres in Central Fort Bend County, HRCS is conveniently located between Hwy 90 and Hwy 59. They are a community dedicated to the spiritual, academic, physical and emotional growth of all students. HRCS focuses on the individual student with expectations set high for all. At HRCS, not only do students grow in knowledge, but also in love and respect for God, themselves and the world around them. HRCS believes that religion should be learned and lived. The weekly children’s Mass prepared and led by the students and daily religion classes immerse students in their faith. These lessons follow them out of the classroom and are reinforced in all aspects of students’ campus life, forming a moral compass that will guide them in later years. While HRCS strives to create a Catholic atmosphere, they welcome children of all faiths. The values and high standard of education taught at HRCS lay the foundation for the future by instilling in each student the love of learning and the value of service to the community. As graduates move on to public or parochial high schools, their years invested at Holy Rosary Catholic School become the springboard for their success. fertile land and beautiful Victorian homes to entice more settlers to the area. People from German, Czech, Polish and Mexican ancestry came to live and contribute to the cities’ welfare making it multicultural. In the early 1920s, oil was found in Fort Bend County, and Rosenberg became a boom town. Sulphur was also discovered. Nature was not always kind to the residents of this small community. Because of very wet weather and the Brazos River flooding often, floods occurred in 1913, 1922, 1929 and 1957. Rosenberg was nicknamed “The City of Mud.” In 1932, a hurricane ruined the cotton crop, but the city stuck together and everyone found jobs to sustain themselves. The town continued to rebuild and replace what was destroyed. Rosenberg continues to thrive and grow. Today, the downtown area looks much the same as it did one hundred years ago. Some of the first buildings still remain. The two-story J.H.P. Davis Bank (Reese Building), the Gray & Sons Building, the Cochran Brokers Building and Erp Building (Vogelsang Building) are all located on Avenue G in downtown Rosenberg. These buildings have been renovated and are still in use as offices, antique shops, a wine room, theaters and restaurants. The Rosenberg Railroad Museum boasts one of the most complete displays of the history of the railroad, how it got started and what life was like at the turn of the century. City leaders are making every effort to preserve the history that makes this city so special. To stroll through the downtown area is a reminder of days gone by. Step back in time, and experience the past in Rosenberg.
