M
ay 5th to 7th, 2017, Trinidad and Tobago’s top creative minds transformed Queen’s Hall into the entertainment hub of the Caribbean. From mind-blowing Theme Park attractions and world class concert performances to celebrity appearances, the country’s biggest Cosplay Competition and an expo village that showcased top local talent; the Decibel Entertainment Festival was all its core patrons could ask for. Will Smith made a surprise visit during The Republic Bank Decibel Entertainment Festival on May 05th 2017. The A-list celebrity, who has been supporting the initiatives of Decibel for over four years, graced the stage much to the delight of screaming school students who were present at Queen's Hall for the conference. The second day was equally full of surprises and was insane, to say the least. Scores of toddlers, teens, young adults, parents and entertainment enthusiasts packed Queen's Hall from as early as 3:00pm when the gates opened, to ensure that they were able to indulge in all the activities available throughout the festival. She had a private Meet and Greet session with some fortunate registrants and also did autograph signings on Decibel's Fandom stage. Later, during the day's proceedings, Kes The Band was introduced on stage by Will Smith who then accepted the challenge of KTB to perform some his hits with them much to the delight of those in attendance. KTB later invited Nikki Bella, international dance choreographer Chris Scott and others to join them on stage during their performance.
For the last few years DEF has been an event that promotes economic diversification by creating a platform that harnesses T&T’s creative potential. Every year, the Decibel Entertainment Festival creates over 150 paid jobs and provides numerous internship opportunities for students and persons interested in working in fields from stage design, event management, and coordination, to construction, audio and lots more. It is the ideal environment to network with entrepreneurs, entertainment industry leaders and Trinidad and Tobago’s budding and top creative talent.
LYRIKAL HEADS TO GHANA TO ‘DANCE CALYPSO’ T
rinidad and Tobago’s Soca sensation Lyrikal has embarked on another musical journey, this time to Africa. He has teamed up with one of the fastest rising female entertainers in Ghana, Mz Vee to create a track titled “Dance Calypso.” The element of this infectious track promises to bridge cultures and is proof that music knows no barriers. The feel good fusion track embodies Afrorhythms, Soca and Dancehall. Lyrikal’s raspy chanting meshes seamlessly with the soothing vocals of the multi-award winning Ghanaian songstress. With a number of nominations and awards under her belt including the Ghana Music Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards and BET Awards, the strength of Mz Vee’s talent has been proven. In the Caribbean, Lyrikal continues to maintain his position as one of
the leading names in the Soca music industry. With a number of hits under his belt including Cloud 9, Loner, Freedom and Jammin
Sake, Lyrikal’s contributions have afforded him the title he carries as the Soca king of New York, where he resides. “Dance Calypso” is the brainchild of Jamaican producer Gregory ‘Taffari’ James, who has written and produced for Stone Bwoy, Sizzla, Da’ville and Beenie Man. It is his nondiscriminatory taste in music that made him “always want to merge the cultural diversity in music and fuse them on one track.” Taffari, along with award winning producer Jon FX who has worked Shabba Ranks, Mya, Yo Gotti, Gyptian, Kevin Lyttle and Vybz Kartel among others, partnered on this project. This new sound has the potential to take the world by storm. Get ready to ‘Dance Calypso’ with Lyrikal and Mz Vee. Courtesy CreativA Media www.amgtt.com •

FLIPO FLIPS NAME AND SETS SIGHT ON INTERNATIONAL MARKETS
ersons visiting YouTube would have recognised a familiar face and the voice but would have seen a different name. That’s because Flipo has officially changed his name and will now be called Azaryah, pronounced Ah-zah-ree-ah, “Azaryah is a name I have always had. Flipo was a childhood nickname but as you grow older, you mature; you grow out of certain things. The name Azaryah is Hebrew, it means Yahwah herself or God herself.” Having demonstrated a penchant for collaborating with international talents with the Major Lazer influenced hit ‘Doh Tell Meh Dat’, he is now celebrating the release of his version of Above and Beyond’s ‘Fly To New York’, a collaboration with Ajunabeats, Bad Royale and Mad Decent. About the collaboration he said, “Bad Royale came for the third time to Trinidad and I kept in contact with them because I have a couple unreleased collaborations with them. They sent me the track and they asked me to do a cover to it, so the collaboration was mainly through Bad Royale.” Azaryah, who does not confine himself to Carnival or soca music, has recorded four fusion type songs of international appeal for release later this year, “since I came out, I don’t take part in Carnival. When you listen to my music it’s not the usual soca songs. Soca was just the first thing I happened to release, but I do reggae, dancehall, hip hop…I just basically do music with a world sound. I don’t classify myself as a soca artiste. I’m a musician. I think when you classify an artiste you hold them in a little bracket. Music could be expressed in different ways.” While one song may be called ‘Zodiac’ or ‘Energy’ the others are still untitled. One titled release is ‘Hottest Thing’, a scintillating, love poem to women everywhere, “It’s about letting them (women) see themselves in the light in 2
which they are supposed to see themselves because you know that a lot of dancehall music tends to degrade our women and bring them down. This song is shedding a little light on them, uplifting them and letting them know that it’s more than looks. When you hear ‘Hottest Thing’ you might think that it’s more about

visual appearance but it’s deeper than that.” In terms of its depth, the song indeed has layers which speak to the violence against women which has been increasingly plaguing Trinidad and Tobago, “It is deeper than just saying crime….What is the kind of stuff we are teaching our young ladies, who are they
getting involved with? It’s trying to bring it at a level where we as a nation can instil the right things in the youth. You can stop someone from murdering but what is the real source of the problem? And it is on both sides too. Males have to know how to treat women. Women have to know how to honour their husbands.” As an artiste who is interested in airplay all year round, he believes that artistes should ensure that their work is of a high quality to receive airplay on our local radio stations. He expresses that everyone should be given a fair chance, “If a consistent artiste or a new artiste has that sort of international sound to become a hit, why not play it? That is the kind of issue not only with me but even established artistes still face the problem of -carry your music and it is not being played, but the artistes also have to understand that they have their work to do to prove that their song is worthy of being played.” We look forward to journeying with Azaryah as he enters new chapters as a musician.

n this current era where Caribbean nations have collectively put tourism at the forefront of their efforts for economic stability, independent media & production company Fu Family Films is gearing up to take viewers on a fantastic voyage throughout the islands with its latest travel series entitled ‘Mira’. The first season of Mira will soon be aired within the region and will comprise 8 weekly thirty minute episodes. This new travel/tourism TV show promises to not only educate and entertain, but it will also explore the many unique facets and cultural nuances of the various Caribbean destinations visited and provide viewers with that ‘great escape’. Mira follows host Kezel Jackson Cruickshank as she arrives in a new country each week with only 3-4 days to show viewers the very best of that country in terms of resorts, accommodation options, cultural landmarks, natural wonders and nightlife. ciology and Caribbean Studies as well as a passion for cultural awareness and travel. She harnesses these experiences as she presents this epic journey while balancing her duties behind the scenes as Managing Director of Fu Family Films. Fu Family Films takes a holistic approach to film and has provided graphic, animation, music video and commercial production services for top regional entertainers, retail and corporate entities and has even created content for the Caribbean arm of the Rio 2016 Olympics which was aired on ESPN, in addition to several key media outlets in the region.
Some of season one's adventures include MIRA's host and crew getting up close and personal with a live Stingray on the island of Antigua
Kezel and her Fu Family Films team endeavour to use this show as a medium for positive social change as it pertains to regional expression and appreciation for its cultural heritage. She shared, “This show is a celebration of culture, diversity and geography. Every country has a tale to tell, a story that makes it authentic. This is no ordinary travel show; we aspire to bring the Caribbean’s distinct melting pot experience to viewers locally, regionally as well as in international markets beyond the borders of the Caribbean Diaspora.” Most notably, Mira’s producers have guaranteed excitement in each episode, as unlike the
typical Caribbean travel magazine show, viewers will get to see the host and crew actually getting hands on, fully engaged and often down and dirty in several fun activities and wild adventures offered in each location. More than just a creative catalyst for the improvement of domestic, regional and international tourism, Mira will also serve as a platform for strategic promotional and branding efforts for various destinations, tourism authorities and hospitality stakeholders. .O.S. Trinidad (Sonique Solutions) – The brand new musical offering by budding artiste Nassy entitled “D Tourist” has become the latest viral sensation to come out of the twin island republic of Trinidad & Tobago. With a simple yet catchy beat and infectious hooks, the song has been gaining attention with the music loving masses and places a special spotlight on Tobago’s many tourism attractions. Within 3 days of its release the track and its accompanying music video have already received over 170,000 views on social media site YouTube, thus giving the San Juan, Trinidad-based artiste a steady platform for spreading his positive message regarding the encouragement of both domestic and international tourism for Tobago. D Tourist which echoes the sentiments of the islands’ recent ‘Stay to Get Away’ campaign was written by Nassy and produced by

Klase Gonzalez (First Klase). Featuring a Hip-Hop laced production fused with the unmistakable lyrical sound of a Trinbagonian Chantuelle, this song is set to be a hit with locals and visitors alike during the many long weekends to come which will see several tourists descending upon Trinidad’s sister isle of Tobago. Nassy whose real name is Manasseh Roberts may be a newcomer in the industry but he is certainly not a novice when it comes to music itself. The bourgeoning star is the grandnephew of the late Grandmaster Lord Kitchener, the cousin of singer/songwriter/ producer Kernel Roberts and
also the first cousin to the rising female Dancehall sensation Keturah Gamba. In his latest musical offering, Nassy delivers memorable, relatable and often comical lines and rhymes full of ‘Trinbagonianisms’ which reflect the culture of the 2 islands. Lyrics such as, ‘Spending money with no plan, coil thick like the doubles man’; ‘Never see come see tourist in meh country, doing it wet doh care bout nobody’ illustrate Nassy’s desire to promote national interest and pride through the use of our local parlance. While Nassy mentions sev-
eral notable Tobago landmarks in his song such as Argyle Falls, Pigeon Point, Buccoo Reef, The Nylon Pool and Signal Hill, the music video for the track which was done by Fu Family Films creatively displays several facets of the island’s unique splendour e.g. its coral reef sea-life, luxurious accommodations, jet skiing and even goat racing. Just as D Tourist shows diversity in T&T’s local music productions, Nassy hopes that this song will assist in the diversification of the local economy via increased tourism income. He aspires to have local tourism authorities utilize the track as a tool in order to help influence and boost local residents and citizens’ appreciation and knowledge of destination Tobago. MONEER DESIGNS AIMS TO REINVIGORATE FASHION INDUSTRY WITH NEW PROJECT Y
oung Aaron Moneer has been building his fashion brand at a rapid pace and now he is trying to use that impetus to propel the entire industry forward as many have tried, but failed to do. The designer has begun working on delivering an epic event that will bring regional designers together and restart the discussion about fashion in Trinidad and Tobago. Dubbed, The Island Fashion show (IFS), Moneer hopes it will become one of the most prominent and celebrated events on Trinidad and Tobago's social calendar. The first ever Island Fashion Show, will be held on August 27th 2017 at City Hall Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The event began with a model casting on April 2nd and followed that up with a series of workshops and model training

sessions. His team works closely with the models to introduce them to the fashion industry, in various aspects including but not limited to: Grooming and Makeup, Runway training, Photoshoots and Etiquette. Moneer believes this format is important because models are integral to the growth of the industry and proper use of the right model can make or break a brand. Unlike other shows that have promised exposure, this one seems to offer serious dividends to the models thanks to Moneer’s capacity to collaborate. “I have Suriname Fashion Week on board. The Director will be attending and they will be selecting four models from the show to attend Suriname Fashion Week,” he stated. However, the show is not just about offering models a
platform. A fashion show is driven by designs and there will be a mix of local and regional designers present. Suriname, Antigua, St. Lucia and Guyana will all be represented by design talents. Moneer says the idea to direct a fashion show was born out of disappointment. “I have been to many fashion shows and a lot of them have weak points. I want to produce something devoid of those weaknesses from the model search all the way to the fashion show.” He hopes this new approach featuring regional unity will bring more eyes to the local market and that the training leading up to the actual event will ensure the event is one worthy of international acclaim. For more developments regarding this project, follow Moneer Designs on Facebook.

RICHARD SIMMONS PLANS TO SUE TABLOIDS OVER DISAPPEARANCE STORIES After years of media speculation over the whereabouts of Richard Simmons, he is reportedly speaking up for himself—with a lawsuit. As a source told NBC News, the 68-year-old fitness guru reportedly has plans to file a multi-complaint lawsuit on Monday for invasion of privacy and defamation against three currently unnamed tabloids for recent "unflattering" and "hurtful" reports. The location of Simmons, who has not made a public appearance in three years, has been a subject of concern and national contemplation recently as unfounded theories swirled that he was secretly transitioning, ill or being held hostage by his housekeeper. "That's just very silly,'' he told Today's Savannah Guthrie in March 2016, refuting all of the claims. "Teresa Reveles has been with me for 30 years. It's almost like we're a married couple."

ASHLEIA HOT

SEAT
5-year-old Ashleia Baksh is no stranger to the media industry as she has been capturing hearts on television and radio for the past 18 years. With her hit show on Star 947HD, she continues to charm her listeners and keep them entertained all week long. On Saturdays, she continues to turn it up 4-7pm with Dr. Dominic. Want to know more about Ashleia? Check out the Q&A below! ET&T: Who are your mentors? Ashleia: I have a few! Shelly Dass, Francesca E. Hawkins, Ellen Degeneres, Jimmy Fallon and Ryan Seacrest. ET&T: Who influenced your career the most? Ashleia: Many people have contributed to the changing of the course of my career path. I studied and worked simultaneously in the entertainment industry, since I was 18. I was in my first year of Med school when I left to go into the entertainment industry full time. This happened after having a deep conversation with my mom about life. She asked me why I wanted to be a doctor. She then asked, “Why don’t you drop out of med school and do entertainment full-time?” I thought who doesn’t want his/her child to be a doctor? Then with some heavy thinking, I left. Therefore, I think my mom has influenced the direction of my career. I also have to thank Sham G Ali, for pushing me to co-host a television show when I was 18. That’s where my love for television began, 18 years ago, this July/August Vacation. ET&T: What is something most people do not know about you? Ashleia: I’m an open book to my listeners on radio and to those who follow me on social media. They all know how emotional I am about certain things and how much I really try to make others happy.
What they actually may not know is that I believe my blessing and purpose in life is to make as many people as possible happy, while being me, the crazy, fun, humorous Ash… Making others happy really gives me this great spiritual fulfillment.
dream guest to have on the show? Ashleia: Justin Bieber. Why? I think he is often misunderstood, and I’d love to ask him some pertinent questions, questions that I know will change the perception of the minds of those who don’t get him.
ET&T: How do you prep for your show? Ashleia: Prep for my show is 24/7… Everything I see, read, experience, I use as my inspirational backdrop for my radio show. I read and do a lot of research, on sports, pop-culture, hard news, movies, TV shows, on the artistes that we feature, and I follow these guys on social media as well.
ET&T: What is your personal mantra? Ashleia: Everything happens for a reason and for the best and even if you are hurting right now; know that it was meant to happen, to teach you a vital lesson. I never ask, “Why me?” I ask, “Why did this happen and what lesson must I learn from this?”
ET&T: What inspired you to become a presenter? Ashleia: I wanted to make the masses happy and that’s the only way I could have. I can’t sing to save my life, so the next best thing was becoming a radio announcer and television presenter (lol). ET&T: What makes your show unique? Ashleia: I’m a unique individual (haha)! My personality makes the difference. I bring the listeners into my life and they bring me into theirs. They are my extended family. I always encourage love and positivity, sharing of family photos, but at the same time having the ability to make them laugh with the things I blurt out. ET&T: What is most challenging part of the job? Ashleia: Some of the things my fans say, “You have real vibes!”, “You’re always so happy”, “Do you ever have a bad day?” “You are a machine” Therefore, the most challenging part of my job is to keep my energy high for three hours straight. Some may think, it’s only three hours! But it’s having your brain run at 100% for three hours. It is draining. However, I love what I do, so I’ll never consider it a job. It’s a joy, and it is the one thing that has the ability to make me happy because I know I’m making others happy. ET&T: Who would be your
ET&T: What genre of music is your favourite? Ashleia: It’s so hard to ask someone who lives music, this question. I’ll give you my top three. Soca, EDM and playback singing (Bollywood film songs). ET&T: What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently? Ashleia: Last year I went to Sea World in Orlando. I went into the washroom and I heard someone call my name. I knew it wasn’t anyone from my crew since it wasn’t a familiar voice. I turned around and I didn’t recognize who she was. She then asked if I was Ashleia from Star 947HD, and my eye opened up so wide and my jaw dropped to the floor. I walked out the washroom in shock. Then last week, this same person messaged me on our Star 947 cell phone to ask me if I remembered meeting her. I laughed so hard when she reminded me of our meeting in the washroom! This world is really small, and Trinbagonians are in everything like salt. ET&T: What do you work toward in your free time? Ashleia: My mind is always running; I don’t think I really have any downtime. That’s why I’m an insomniac. I’m always trying to come up with ideas for television programs that can educate and entertain at the same time. I believe if you can make learning fun, educating others becomes
easy. Broadcasters, I think forget that we have a huge responsibility when we are on air. It’s ok to make people laugh, it’s great in fact, but after three hours, have they left listening to you more knowledgeable? Did they leave learning something, at least one thing, of substance? These are the questions I ask myself every day after I’m finished on air. When I’m driving home after, I think about all that I have said on radio and think about what I could have done better. I run a tight shift. ET&T: What would be your one super power? Ashleia: To have the ability to read minds. I wouldn’t have to be guessing what people really think. Life would be so much easier. But then again life isn’t easy. ET&T: What is your pet peeve? Ashleia: Dishonesty. ET&T: What is a good theme song for your life? Ashleia: Alessia Cara’s “Scars To Your Beautiful” Real beauty lies within. Never let your light that shines within, be dimmed by society’s clouded sense of what true beauty means. You are beautiful, just the way you are.

SETTING THINGS STRAIGHT T
here has been much talk about the male romper or Romphim as it has been coined. Some seem to be for it and others rebuke the very thought of it ever being made. However, there seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding what a Romphim actually is. Some say men have worn them for years and point to overalls, jumpsuits and “farmer browns.” The fact is, a Romphim is none of those things. It is in effect a romper (the same thing girls love to wear until the bathroom calls) just worn by guys. The only addition is a shirt collar. It is our hope that these photos will clear things up for you. At the end of the day, wear what you wish. If you can pull it off, then you just might escape arrest from the Fashion Police. n this issue, we feature female-driven movies that are likely to compete extremely well with those starring their male counterparts. Rough Night In Rough Night, an edgy R-rated comedy, five best friends from college (played by Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian
Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz) reunite 10 years later for a wild bachelorette weekend in Miami. Their hard partying takes a hilariously dark turn when they accidentally kill a male stripper.
