Chromosomes in Love A New Jewelry Collection

The Chromosomes in Love collection, a jewelry line by AE Koechert Vienna in collaboration with artist Eva Petrič, evolves from and expresses the role of love in life. Love transcends generations, as does jewelry, which is often a token of love. Jewelry is given with love, is accepted with love and is kept with love. The unique design of this collection stems from Eva Petrič’s art series Gr@y Matter – The Language of Shadows, for which she was awarded with the Vordemberge Gildewart Foundation grant in 2010. With this project, Eva investigated the communication abilities of shadows to express and visualize emotions as in her Periodic Table of Shadowed Emotions. For Eva Petrič, emotions are like shadows… ungraspable. Appearing and disappearing, they

often trick us. They are like the twists and turns in Eva's shadow image, translated into patterns of lace, showing not only the zig-zags and twists and turns of life, but also interweaving and connecting us, just as love does. “We are like threads, caught in loops of emotions in patterns of past and future generations,” states Eva Petrič. In creating the Chromosomes in Love jewelry collection she used the “heart” part of her lace shadow image Stem Cell Potential, the symbol of Love. This heart part of gold and colorful gems, echoes contemporary attitudes of the younger generation and, at the same time, reflects tradition, an inherent, though often unconscious part of Love. The form of the chromosome, which is the base

form of this collection, reflects and accentuates the presence of heritage, which is a part of each of us and which we all accept and, knowingly or unknowingly, pass onto future generations, as chromosomes do. Furthermore, scientists recently discovered that the longer our telomeres - the top ends of our chromosomes - the longer we will live and love and be loved. Therefore, let’s treasure the Chromosomes in Love. Its unique design enables the telomeric contact between the gems and the skin of the

individual wearing the Chromosomes in Love jewelry pieces. Although such findings are not yet proven, gems are often claimed to generate positive effects on our wellbeing. Or, as Eva Petric states, “Love begins and continues with Chromosomes.

Paradise in the Caribbean La Vita on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands

Have you been longing to visit St. John? This U.S. Virgin Islands has been named Number One Island Destination in the Caribbean by Trip Advisor and number two in the world, and for a good reason. ISABELLE GOUGENHEIM Scarves Inspired by the Soul of the City Streets For Isabelle Gougenheim, a French designer living in Chicago, each scarf is a canvas with a travel story; a marriage fuelled by her passion for art and innate love of scarves. Growing up in France, the fashion capital of the world, Isabelle Gougenheim uses scarves as an authentic medium to express her creativity and passion. Her sketches are transformed into wearable art scarves when printed on luxuriously soft silk and modal fabric in Italy. By merging abstractionism with real imagery, Gougenheim creates eye-catching scarves with electric colors and images – free-spirited creations, inspired by street photography and graffiti, that will transport the viewer to faraway places. The Grand Carré Scarf by Isabelle Gougenheim Designs is both multi-faceted and multi-functional, allowing creation and exploration. An eclectic accessory by nature, the shape of the scarves is more than meets the eye, as the square54-inch textile effortlessly ties into a belt or wraps like a headband. The colourful and whimsical scarves have already been adopted by the city of New York as Isabelle Gougenheim Designs won the Best New Accessory Award at the 2019 NY NOW exhibition as well as many shops and museums around the globe. “The scarves accentuate any outfit for any occasion,” she says. “It’s true that there are the epitome of the classic chic Parisian style. But the abstract designs are an all-knowing nod to how we live

now. They are imbued with contemporary forward-thinking approaches to life. I like to create things that are original and that surprise myself”. Major accomplishment for the French-American artist, an Isabelle Gougenheim Designs’ scarf was featured in the latest Samsung Switzerland

campaign. The brand was also featured on prestigious TV channels such as Fox and WGN9 and luxury magazines such as Modern Luxury CS. See more of Isabell’s work and shop for scarves at isabellegougenheimdesigns.com.

DBE IS MORE THAN IT APPEARS A New Fragrance Line Taps into the Universe

DBE is not just a fragrance. It serves as a data bank of emotions, an emotion tuner, tuning us to our optimal feelings wherever we are. Even if we are in outer space, it will keep us in tune with the Earthling in us. Eva Petrič and her shadow emotions, translated into DBE fragrances and into curves and loops of Idrija lace, caught into the DBE bottle, show not only the zig zags, twists and turns of life, but also the interweaving that connects us into unconscious patterns. To her, we are all like threads, caught into loops of emotions in patterns of past and future generations… Mateja D. Šušteršič and her DBE bottle tops, shaped into asteroids and other space objects (Earth and Mars), show us that we are not alone in space. We are just a tiny community of world and space travelers, continuing onwards and forwards on our nomadic trails…

Yes, the nomadic nature of humans, existing since the beginning of history and extending nowadays even into outer space, is the main inspiration behind the DBE – The Data Bank of Emotions collection of fragrances. With DBE, Petrič and Šušteršič want to preserve and nurture the message from Earth even in deep space, and through its series of fragrances (A MESSAGE FROM EARTH, CURIOSITY, and EMPATHY) we want to remain in touch with the Earthling in us, wherever we are. Scent can teleport us to a completely different place, even into outer space, into the distant future and the place that we will maybe share with aliens. As a recent study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology by Nicolas Gueguen suggests, pleasant scents promote positive social interactions. DBE- a message from Earth collection of fragrances could communicate to other beings with whom we might interact of Earth, of us humans, and help

us establish a positive relation with whoever we’ll encounter. In humans, scent perception is one of the oldest – and most important senses. Scent sensitivity is 100,000 greater in our brains than taste sensitivity is. On average, a person detects 4000 different scents. This ability helps us to obtain comprehensive information from our environment and a complete and multidimensional image of the environment and other beings (possibly even aliens) that surround us. Scent is our first and our most primary sense but, unfortunately many amongst us are less and less aware of it. We hope that our DBE collection will bring us back the awareness of this primal sense and remind us of its importance for our survival and of the human species. At any time anywhere, whenever and wherever we are surrounded by the “Love frequency”, love waves with 528 Hz. According to Dr. Leonard Horowitz, 528 Hertz is the frequency that is central to the “musical mathematical matrix of creation.” More than any sound previously discovered, the “LOVE frequency” resonates at the heart of everything. ... This is why it is also known as the DNA repair frequency.

And this is why they tuned their DBE series to 528 Hz and into the limited edition of 528 bottles. Smell and music are our emotion buttons that activate memories and certain feelings and emotions. It even has the power to evoke the earliest memories from one’s childhood, disappearing and reappearing as shadows… See more at dbe528.com

CAPTURING THE SEA Michael Kahn & the Glory of Sailboats

With his 1950’s camera, Michael travels extensively to photograph the world’s finest boats and pristine seascapes. He collects his images on traditional black and white film and produces luminous silver gelatin prints in his darkroom. With a distinctive sense of composition and attention to tonal relationships, the emotional force exhibited in Michael’s photographs has allowed him to be one of the most memorable photographers of our time. Born in 1960, Michael Kahn is a life-long resident of Chester County Pennsylvania. During his childhood, his family summered on the coasts of Maine and Topsail Island, North Carolina. This is where his love of the sea and sailing originated. After high school, Michael apprenticed in a portrait studio where they used Hasselblad cameras with a square 6×6 cm film format. Here, Michael received hands on training in film handling and black and white printmaking. Several years later, the owner of the studio changed the business model and became a commercial/ advertising photographer. Michael stayed on as an assistant, learning skills in advertising, product and editorial photography. From there, Michael branched off on his own, shooting for magazines and other commercial clients. In 1990 he published a book of black and white photographs of the Brandywine River in Southeastern Pennsylvania. In the mid-90’s, Michael took his first sailing photograph of a small boat in the fog on a lake in the Adirondacks. This image launched his nautical photography career. Michael made the decision to stay with his film cameras instead of going with the new trends in digital equipment, and continues to make handmade photographs in his darkroom. A VINYL ODYSSEY

Elyse Rainbolt’s Pop-Up Exhibition in Denver by Shannon Liddy

Ben's vinyl collection

An audiophile perhaps since birth, Elyse was destined for this New Year’s Eve party. Even if strangers, she jumped at the invitation to join a group of like-minded souls, tearing into records and 8-tracks, originals and uncracked album covers, drawing 2014 to a resonant close. At 29, she was not only the youngest person, but the only female in a room full of diehard fans. The shared love of sound tangible, a galvanizing force with which to reckon. And her introduction to Ben, with whom she’d embark upon an epic journey.

Creation across all media is in her bones, fueling her since childhood. A curious spirit, a wandering eye, a need to examine the world spawning her most recent and grandest experiment, Lue Lyre was born. Muse, Music, Amusement, a near alliteration to perfectly captivate the senses, Salon style in presentation, offering the viewer art posters and illustrations, originals and screen prints alike, flanked by hand-scripted song lyrics. Her current response to music and the power of verse, rooted deeply in her soul. Carefully crafted in styl-

ized text, her handwritten transpositions dance across the paper lending a cadence only achievable by an innate connection to each word. Using Ben’s 8,000 + vinyl library as historical reference, the two weave a multi sensory tale, asking the audience to dance. To sing. To engage with each sweeping sound, almost sonnet-like. And to bolster said effort, Lane Meyer Gallery and Pon Pon as host. Not merely backdrop, but energetic entity, alive and lustrous. From her first encounter with the space, she felt transported, sent reeling to her high school bedroom. ‘60s decor and wild ephemera, the similarities were uncanny. And thus began a relationship forged in a shared love of nostalgia and sound.

Ben’s vinyl collection, another look

From January 24-27, 2020, join Elyse for the grand exhibition. Thoughtfully curated beverages, digital renderings and multimedia pieces to captivate, accompanied by a DJ set from Vinyl Ben of all corresponding tracks showcased. Though currently based out of New Jersey, please enjoy a visit to her forever home, Pon Pon, a.k.a. her high school bedroom of yore, for an intimate experience sure to engage all of the senses.

REVELING IN THE SUN

In Denver, New Work from Caleb Hahne

In a new series of paintings presented in One Sun, Caleb Hahne focuses on the dream-like colors of our passing memories of mundane pleasantries. The paintings romanticize the way the sun warms the skin or the warmth of another body, the gentle breeze rustling the hair, the changing temperature of the water when drawing a bath. Hahne discards his careful renderings and observational drawings and, using memory as the main vehicle, recreates similar compositions, each slightly different than the last as his recollection fades until he arrives at the final iteration. Through selective translucency of the paint, Hahne captures the fragility of our remembrances without depriving the viewer of its tender impact.

viewer to occupy his figures, bringing their lived experiences and to feel the same sun we all feel. Based in Denver, Hahne’s paintings address themes of memory, vulnerability, intimacy, and boyfriend, using storytelling to reflect on liminal space. In One Sun, Hahne continues to work with the human figure, exploring the nuanced ideas of boyhood. He reminisces of humble continuums

Fountain, 2019, acrylic on canvas, 14x12 inches

Hahne takes moments found in passing and like a poet illuminates the beauty in the vapidity. In times of constant commotion, we all catch a cherished moment to be alone with our thoughts or just be present in the moment. His figures all exist in respite and appear to be content with the world and themselves. Hahne invites the

that surround us but remain in the background throughout our lifetime as they follow our inner growth. In this body, the solar presence acts as a metaphor for the cyclical nature of emotional closeness and distance. As we change throughout adolescence and adulthood, the sun still shines the same and the wind still moves the grass. In this body of work, the sun is the ubiquitous unifying element, often disregarded until its gone missing in our daily lives. Caleb Hahne captures the feeling of relief and content after yearning for the sun’s return through intimate paintings of small gratitudes. The works coexist in the same reality, perhaps our own, but the paintings are cloaked in the dawn of universal memories. Caleb Hahen’s One Sun will be at Rule Gallery in Denver through February 8th.
