Eco-Friendly Beauty

Mozzafiato sources fine products from Italy, including a large selection for men

According to We Are Social, 25% of consumers want to buy only eco-friendly products.

It’s also very hard to differentiate between all the different standards – from zero waste to cruelty free to vegan skin Knowingcare. where your beauty products are coming from is paramount for Denver-based company Mozzafiato, which only caries Italian beauty products from companies that are extremely transparent about where their products are made and all the ingredients. Each brand in the Mozzaf

With so many brands to choose from, and sometimes little transparency, that can make shopping sustainably diffi cult. Consumers are starting to demand this from compa nies and to question where their products are sourced.

It’s no surprise the global beauty industry is worth over $500 billion dollars and growing. In 2022, there are some key trends hitting the beauty world, that might surprise you, but this first one might not be all that shocking. Cos metic industry stats worldwide anticipate the organic and natural beauty product market will hit $54 billion in 2027.

This year, consumers are also more willing to try new beauty products than they were before the coronavirus pandemic. That’s according to data from a PowerRe views survey. Consumers are discovering products in new ways as well, through social media platforms like Instagram and Tik Tok. And it’s not just women who are trying something new; men are entering the beauty in dustry more now than ever before. According to CNBC, the personal care industry for men is estimated to hit $166 billion this year. Celebrities have hopped on this trend, too. Harry Styles’ brand “Pleasing” came out at the end of 2021 and carries nail polish and skin care for men. Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Yachty and AJ McLean have all launched nail polish brands recently. More men are seeking out products like this, and changing what it means to be “masculine” today, and letting everyone know that can include makeup, nail polish and much more.

iato collection has been carefully selected as an embodi ment of the incomparable Italian standards and sensibili ties. Throughout the collection, you will discover products unlike any available elsewhere in the North American market – everything from fragrances, skincare, makeup, men’s grooming and home products. When you purchase a product from Mozzafiato, expect to be transported to the heart and heritage of the best beauty experience in the world: Italy! Some of the brands carried by Mozzafiato have been in business for centuries. They’ve honed their craft and have passed their business down through generations. Take Farmacia SS. Annunziata, which was established in 1561, by the chemist Domenico Brunetti. The origi nal apothecary still exists today in Florence, Italy, today and the company continues to create skincare prod ucts, perfumes and home diffusers. It’s pretty incredible to think that a brand could be successful for that long, but there’s a reason customers keep coming back for generations. That’s not the only Mozzafiato brand that has an amazing story. Proraso was founded in 1908 by Ludovico Martelli in Florence. The brand has been at the helm of men’s shaving for four generations and has always used natural and trusted ingredients.

Mozzafiato isn’t just about historic brands; they just brought on a brand new certified-organic skincare brand, Prato Botanico. The company, which was found ed in 2020, is family-owned and each product is made in the Puglia Region of Italy, where organic farming and sustainability are a way of life. The botanicals are har vested by local farmers in the Puglia region (that’s in the heel of the boot). These are only a few of the 20-plus brands that Mozzafiato has handpicked to bring to the U.S. The company plans to bring on two more in the near future, in addition to getting more color and make up from another Italian brand, Borghese.

The pandemic may have played a role in men being more open to experimenting with different products and wanting to prioritize their skin care and grooming. A quick Google search on men’s grooming, gives you top ten lists of products and must haves that go on for pages. Skincare has never been just for women, but men ha ven’t embraced it like this at any time in recent history. But in ancient times, men’s grooming had a bit of renais sance, especially in Egypt, where men were all about beauty and skincare. According to History.com, both

Mozzafiato is at the forefront of the beauty trends of 2022 and wants to connect you with brands just like Antica Bar bieria Colla. It’s much more than just buying the product, but creating a connection to place and community. Two new monthly subscriptions will bring you into that world, one for men’s products and one for women’s. You will be introduced to new brands and have the opportunity to connect virtually with some of the creators, experts and brand representatives. It’s all about a connection back to place, brand and story. Since you’re buying beauty any way, why not try something that has a story, a family and tradition behind it? men and women wore makeup because they believed it protected them from the gods Horus and Ra. Looks like men today are channeling their inner Egyptian! Or maybe their inner Italian? Like I pointed out, there are so many Italian brands that have focused on men’s grooming for much longer than Harry Styles. One more you need to know about is Antica Barbieria Colla. You can purchase their men’s grooming products through Mozza fiato, and you can visit their barber shop in Milan – one of the most famous in the city – known for it’s prestige traditions and international clientele. Dino Colla opened the barbershop in 1904 and it’s still one of Italy’s top des tinations for men’s grooming.

One of the best parts of being a photographer is meeting and photographing interesting people and places. But what I love the most is waking up early on Sunday mornings, getting in my car with my radio tuned to a mellow rock station, driving 15 minutes down the interstate downtown to Waterfront park, and capturing our beautiful harbor sunrise and the ever changing light the shore birds with their early morning activities. If the Charleston harbor it is my happy place, I also enjoy downtown in general, my Nikon with its wide-angle lens in hand to capture the history and architectural beauty of our Holy City! In particular, I love walking down upper King St early in the morning when it’s quiet and taking street shots to capture the historic grandeur of it all. This may explain why I eventually gravitated towards real estate photography.

These days, I work closely with several local real estate firms taking photos of properties for the MLS and social media advertising. It’s always so gratifying when a property sells in record time. In addition, I have photographed several events In the Charleston area, including a four-day NASA corporate conference event. It was a great joy and honor meeting and photographing our brilliant NASA engineering minds, including astronaut Jerry Ross. I also had the privilege of photographing a three-day reunion event for the Citadel class of ‘68, a fun and heartfelt event. My favorite, though, was photographing the 20th Air Wing Association reunion event featuring all eras of Air Force Pilots and their wives. It was a very fun group.

My work has been published in several local publications includ ing the Post and Courier, Charleston magazine, Mount Pleasant magazine, and Charlie online magazine. I shot several photos for features stories in Charleston Scene, including a photo used on the cover. I was also the chief photographer for MUSC medical

If you’re a creative, you may relate to this story. You are really good at something, and it brings you tremendous joy to create it and put it out into the world. So then you decide to make it your business. The next thing you know, you quickly realize that running a business requires a completely different set of skills, and you can’t get by on your talent alone. Eventually, you’ll need to learn how to crunch numbers and maybe even lead a team, not to mention market yourself in an ever-crowded digital space.

That’s exactly how publicist and branding expert Tiffany Napper earned her business pedigree -- through running not one, but 4 creative business endeavors: a PR and branding agency, a handbag line, a co-working space for creatives, and a shortterm rental property in New Orleans, LA. And it was through hard knocks and lessons learned that she eventually became not just a good business owner – but a really great one. She learned how to create effective systems and processes and how to set boundaries that serve both the client and the company. So by 2020, a decade into her entrepreneurial journey, she was ready to start sharing her wisdom. “The truth is, over the years I had two very influential business coaches, and they both told me I should be a business coach. I sort of laughed it off the first time, but when my second coach mentioned it, the thought struck a chord,” Napper reflects.

The numbers might shock you, but studies show less than by Tiffany Napper

Tiffany Napper, a holistic business coach living in Nashville, TN, has always identified as creative first and foremost. The “business” title came much later.

Fast forward a few years to March of 2020, and Napper was asked to lead a webinar at the start of the worldwide shutdown. She taught a group of women how to develop the systems and cultivate the mindset needed to create an unshakable business.

Building Businesses Without Burnout

“It felt like a good way to power through a rather uncertain time,” she states. “The webinar was well-received, and after that experience, I couldn’t ignore the calling. I was finally ready to own the role of a business coach.”

2% of female founders hit $1 million in revenue, and less than 18% ever hit 6 figures. When you look at the stats for creative women in business, they are even bleaker. And yet, creative professions are in 7th place in 2022 according to entrepreneurship growth statistics. Artists, graphic designers, photographers, make-up artists, florists, fashion designers, event planners … their contributions to our ecosystem and our world are undeniable.Knowing these stats, Napper hopes to put more money in the pocketbooks of creative women running their own businesses, but she wants to take it a step further than that. She wants to help them find more joy in the journey. “I learned this the hard way, but a six-figure business that sucks the life out of you isn’t ideal,” she shares. “The toxic hustle culture mixed with a rather unhelpful narrative that you can just figure everything out yourself can lead to serious burnout. That’s why I care about my client’s mental health and well-being just as much as I care about the numbers on their spreadsheet.”

Prior to being an entrepreneur, Napper had a successful role in the music industry, and she traveled the world running PR for Yamaha artist relations. Even though she was working with international superstars including John Legend, Elton John, and Alicia Keys, Napper said she knew bigger things were ahead, so she made the leap and formed her own “Whenagency.I

look back at the campaigns I’ve been a part of and the events I’ve helped run, I almost can’t believe these are the chapters of my life. But ultimately, no job has felt more right than the role of a business coach. I love helping women build lasting empires that bring them more abundance and more joy, and I cannot wait to write my next chapter.”

Napper offers 1:1 consulting and coaching for six-figure entrepreneurs who clearly have a great product, but the mundaneness of running a business has started to rob them of their joy. She gets to the heart of the vision before crafting a plan to bring things back into alignment and uplevel the business from the inside out. Her clients have earned five-figure returns after just 8 weeks, set up passive revenue streams that bring in recurring four-figure months, and even doubled their annual revenue in one year. In 2021, Napper launched the Upleveler Society, a highvibe membership for creatives who are craving community and ongoing education. Uplevelers have reported a myriad of positive results including increased confidence, improved sales, and the launch of new programs. Not only that, but Uplevelers report having a greater sense of peace and treating themselves with more compassion because they finally feel like a competent business owner.

Brain Health/Cognition - Berries are not only superstars for brain health/longevity, they also help maintain sharp memory. Anthocyanins are a powerful medicine for the brain as they re duce inflammation, help neurons communicate, and regulate how the brain uses glucose for energy.

GOT BLUEBERRIES?

Alleviate Inflammation - “Although inflammation is a normal im mune response that helps protect your body from illness and injury, chronic inflammation is at the root of most diseases.”

Promote Heart Health - Studies show that eating blueberries may reduce some of the risk factors for heart disease. “Re searchers have found that intake of blueberries “acutely im proves vascular [arterial] function…in an intake-dependent manner.” Less than a cup is beneficial, but one to two cups

Did you know that humble blueberries remain one of the most nutritious, anti-oxidant-rich types of fruit in the world? There are certain foods that have been called “superfoods” due to their impressive benefits, like helping to reduce age-related diseases and improve cognition and longevity. These impressive age-en hancing results, verified by many studies, show that blueberries should become a staple in everyone’s daily diet. The long-term benefits are never-ending. Wondering about the enormous health benefits and how they are beneficial for your health? The health site Lifespan explains, “In addition to increasing longevity, blueberries can specifically lower the risk of various degenera tive diseases that reduce human life expectancy.” Wondering about more health benefits of blueberries? Here are the top eight health benefits of blueberries:

Helps Fight Cancer-“Recent research has unearthed some impressive findings on the ability of blueberries to protect against certain types of cancer. According to Dr. William Li, a Harvard Medical School graduate and researcher, “blueberries actually prevent blood flow to cancer tumors. They are almost as powerful as the drug Avastin which his protégé at Harvard invented. Without a blood supply to bring nutrients, cancer tu mors can’t grow.”

Increase Weight Loss -“Blueberry extracts have many positive effects that can help you lose weight and keep it off.” Take a look at the blueberry nutrition profile, and you’ll quickly see why this nutrient-packed berry is great if you’re looking to lose weight fast. It’s low in calories but provides a whopping 3.6 grams of fiber per cup, fulfilling up to 14 percent of your daily fiber needs with just one serving.

Thanks to its high antioxidant content, blueberries have been shown to have a significant anti-inflammatory effect in the body.

High in Antioxidants - Blueberries are one of the best sources of antioxidants. Along with other antioxidant-rich fruits and veg etables, eating blueberries can increase your total antioxidant intake to help reduce premature aging. Blueberries are rich in antioxidants that help protect the skin from damage and pro mote skin healing.

*Boost angiogenesis - Seasonal berries like blueberries can boost your body’s angiogenesis defenses. Angiogenesis is the process that our bodies implement to grow and maintain blood vessels. In healthy circumstances, blood vessels are integral to life. They deliver oxygen and vital nutrients to all of our organs. However, when abnormal vessels get out of whack, they can fuel microscopic cancers and create significant issues. Berries help to promote proper angiogenesis function.

DIRECTIONS: Add all ingredients to blender and until a smooth texture is reached.

Finally, did you also know that frozen blueberries are actually healthier and contain more disease fighting antioxidants than fresh blueberries? The literature shows that freezing blueber ries increases their concentration of anthocyanins, which are natural anti-inflammatory agents. And let’s not forget to always buy organic, preferably local to support our remarkable farmer’s markets here in the Charleston, South Carolina area. We are fortunate to have several U-Pick Farms in the Lowcountry that offer succulent blueberries: Bluebelle Farms, McClellanville, SC; Ambrose Farms, Wadmalaw Island, SC and Myer’s Blueberries, Summerville, SC. What are you waiting for? What will you do with your blueberry jackpot? I don’t blame you at all if you want to rinse and eat them right away. With the indelible blueberry the choices are endless!
