WHAT'S THE
SCOOP?
It feels like we start our Christmas countdowns earlier every year, anxiously awaiting the flurry of festivities, family and friends. Yet, somehow, it still manages to sneak up on us, often leaving us unprepared and under high pressure to do the holiday season “the right way.” Balance social time with personal time, get your work done, check all the boxes on every wishlist and host family members for weeks, all while keeping the peace. Though navigating the holidays can be challenging, we’ve found one thing that never fails to bring people together: food! Whether it’s a Grazing Board (p. 18) designed to greet people as they walk in, a night out at one of Atlanta’s top Holiday Pop-Ups (p. 28) or a bevy of seasonal treats from a local bakery like Sugar N’ Proof (p. 22), a little sustenance for the soul goes a long way. Of course, it’s not the holidays without the festivities that come with it. There are plenty of happenings around town to ignite those warm fuzzies in your heart. Attend a Holiday Play at the Aurora (p. 10) or embark on a Road Trip to Brevard, NC (p. 26); the options are many!
No matter where this holiday season takes you, whether across mountain tops or through deep valleys, rest in the little comforts like food and festivities that are sure to return time and time again. You’ve got this!

GET A HOBBY
WHERE HOLIDAYS BLOSSOM By: Mina Kinjo
Buckle up, holiday enthusiasts! We're about to embark on a jolly journey into the wonderful world of floral arrangements. From crafting wreaths to perfecting mistletoe, poinsettias, pine and holly, we've got a step-by-step guide and some expert tips, tricks and hacks to make your holiday décor the talk of the town!
Step 1: Gather Your Blooms and Supplies First, assemble your tools. You'll need sharp floral shears, wire, floral tape, a foam wreath base (for wreaths) and, of course, your selection of holiday blooms. Choose your stars wisely, whether it's the classic poinsettia, fragrant pine or vibrant holly. Step 2: Set the Holiday Mood Before diving in, decide on the holiday vibe you aim for. Are you going for a traditional Christmas feel, a rustic woodland look, or perhaps, something uniquely you? Your chosen theme will guide your flower selection and color palette. Step 3: Wreath Crafting Delight Wreaths are the exclamation point on your holiday décor. Begin by securing your foam wreath base with wire. Then, it's time for the fun part! Layer your greens and blooms, securing them with wire or floral tape. Leave spaces for ornaments, ribbons and any additional embellishments. Don't forget to fluff those pine branches for extra oomph! Step 4: Magical Mistletoe Moments Mistletoe isn't just for stealing kisses; it's for creating holiday memories! Craft a delightful mistletoe bundle by twisting multiple stems together and securing them with floral tape. Hang it with a cheerful ribbon, and let the smooching begin! Step 5: Poinsettia Pizzazz Poinsettias are the show-stoppers of the holiday season. Remember to cut their stems at a sharp angle when placing them in a vase to ensure they absorb plenty of water. Add some pine branches and holly for that wintery touch, and finish with a festive bow. Step 6: Holly & Pine Centerpieces Arrange pine branches in a vase with bright holly berries for rustic elegance. The combination of green and red is a timeless holiday classic. Enhance the centerpiece with candles or fairy lights for a magical glow. Floral arrangement isn't just a hobby; it's a journey of creativity and celebration. Whether crafting a heartfelt gift or decking your halls, these steps, tips and tricks will help you transform petals into pure holiday magic, one bloom at a time. Get ready to deck the halls and spread some cheer!
6
Expert Tips, Tricks and Hacks 1. Revive Drooping Blooms: If your poinsettias or pine start to droop, give them a spa treatment. Submerge the wilted stems in water with a floral preservative overnight. They'll bounce back! 2. Long-Lasting Blooms: Keep your arrangements fresh by trimming stems every few days, changing the water and adding a few drops of bleach or flower food. 3. Homemade Flower Food: No flower food? No problem! Mix a teaspoon of sugar with a few drops of lemon juice in warm water as a substitute. 4. Effortless Bows: Create perfect bows with a fork! Wrap your ribbon around the fork, tie it and slide it off. Fluff, and you're good to go!

PLAY DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT
SWEET SUNSHINE SCULPTURE
The events and good vibes of downtown Braselton have drawn housing developers and prospective buyers to the area. New developments, including two subdivisions and one condominium, are currently planned with a walkable connection to the bustling downtown.
Thanks to the Braselton Arts Council, a beautiful metal sculpture has been installed in front of the under-construction library. This whimsical piece was designed by J. Doyle Rogers, a local nationally known artist, along with his son Logan Berry and is titled “Sweet Sunshine.”
COCKTAIL TRAIL For an enchanting and unique “out-onthe-town” experience, one MUST check out Braselton’s ingenious Cocktail Trail. Print or download the map for a wellplanned, boozy good time. Venture to moody barrooms, spacious patios and eclectic atmospheres. Grab a group of buddies or plan a date night and tour what’s “on tap” as you Curate Your Own Path with this delightful Cocktail Trail.
BRASELTON LIBRARY UPDATES
CITY SPOTLIGHT:
GRIST MILL RENOVATION Braselton's mill, built in 1900 by the Braselton Brothers, used steam-powered cylindrical rollers to grind grain. In March 2023, its ownership was transferred to the Braselton Visitors Bureau Authority, which is completing a series of renovations on the mill, including a two-story addition to house offices and conference rooms for the Visitors Bureau, as well as a Mill Museum for the public to celebrate the history of the town’s old mill.
REBAR Rebar is a fresh concept by the owners of the Braselton favorite, Local Station. It features a gorgeous bar and serves creative cocktails, delicious snacks, savory paninis and tasty quinoa bowls and salads. Everything is made daily with fresh ingredients. Rebar customers can take advantage of inside and outside seating at The 1904 and Town Green or grab an adult beverage “to-go” and stroll downtown.

BRASELTON HERE’S WHAT WE DIG:
Literature lovers know the deep soul-pull that a library holds over a person. The shelves of untapped stories, the tomes of knowledge waiting to fill your brain with inspiration. In Braselton, their library is getting a facelift. A massive new addition is under construction and set to open to the public this winter! With plenty of room to house the library’s much-in-demand Children’s and Young Adult sections, the multi-floor extension features a stunning staircase, massive windows and an even larger space for events and programming. Braselton’s library dates back to 1921 and has been a community favorite throughout generations.
B TEAM INITIATIVE Braselton’s new volunteer workforce program—the Braselton Bee Team— comprises community members desiring to help promote and support events, projects and promotions. Bee Team members will serve as ambassadors during large events and work behind the scenes directly with staff and other community leaders and organizers.
COOKIE CRAWL On December 10, Braselton’s Cookie Crawl will follow a free North Georgia Winds Concert and lead guests through a downtown lit with festive lights and holiday music. The North Georgia Winds orchestra is comprised of adult musicians from within the community.

DiG DEEP BRASELTON By: Eryn Austin
Braselton is a community of people who know how to get together for a good time. While known for beauty, history and public art, it is quickly becoming a regional favorite for its unique and eclectic community events. Year-round opportunities to gather together with friends, neighbors and visitors often revolve around supporting small businesses in the area or celebrating the arts and culinary scene around town. From the popular and well-known Braselton Antique and Artisan Festival that draws over 25,000 attendees to smaller walkable events like the Chocolate Walk, Braselton is making a name for itself as a gathering place dedicated to going all out in celebration of its community. The upcoming Holiday Parade and Festival will occur on November 18, with activities beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing through the evening. Guests will enjoy wandering the artisan marketplace, grabbing a great spot to watch the parade, having photos taken with Santa and visiting with live reindeer. Live music and plenty of food will also be available throughout the day, all culminating in the lighting of the Christmas Tree on the town green. For those seeking small-town holiday feels, this event is a must.
Beloved by local families, the annual Picnic with the Police event brings the community and first responders together on the town green. Children can interact with police and fire vehicles and meet local first responders face-to-face. The town goes all out with music and food trucks for this memorable day that families return to year after year. This event is not just for the kiddos, though! Everyone is invited to hang out with the community’s first responders and get to know them a little better! The most unique events that Braselton hosts are their walkable events, bringing attendees up close and personal with small businesses around the town and uniting friends and neighbors. The list of walkable events grows yearly, with surprising new additions popping up occasionally and keeping things interesting and festive all year. Some of these walkable events include: Braselton West Wine Hop - Guests are invited to sip, shop and stroll through various parts of town, enjoying fine wine and food pairings provided by the town’s finest restaurants. The Chocolate Walk - Chocolate lovers will enjoy a little sweet treat from participating locations as they indulge in shopping and decadent bites throughout town. The Cravin’ Bacon Walk - Squealers unite at this bacon-themed walking event that takes them from Trough Stop to Trough Stop throughout Braselton, getting their fill of bacon bites at each location. Tickets are limited, and a VIPig option is available for those wanting to add a little bourbon sipping to their bacon adventure. SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT CORK IT WINE & CHARCUTERIE By: Paula Hastings
Cork It Wine and Charcuterie 36 Frances St., Braselton, GA corkitbraselton.com Tucked away in a charming white building in downtown Braselton is a surprising little gem. Cork It is the perfect place for catching up with girlfriends, enjoying a date night out or grabbing a pre-dinner cocktail. Their interior space is adorable, cozy and inviting, with the added bonus of a large patio creating a conundrum of where to sit and sip. The tipping point of deciding may depend on whether it’s a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday when they have talented live music. Even though “wine” is in the name, this spot offers a full bar with specialty and classic cocktails. The Smoked Old Fashioned lives up to expectations and does not disappoint. Of course, the wine list is extensive but not intimidating, with offerings by the glass or bottle. The friendly staff is accommodating in answering questions and making recommendations.
Now that your drink order’s covered, are you craving a little bite to pair? Obviously, they have tasty charcuteries that you can customize (with additions from the fabulous Antebellum restaurant), but Cork It also has a delightful selection of small plates with something for every appetite. Although limited, it is nicely varied with open-faced bruschetta, paninis, hummus, desserts and more. If you prefer to drink your dessert, the Espresso Martini is a must-try! Braselton’s Cork It opens at 4:00 p.m. daily with varying events and live music listed on their website. They also have a Downtown Buford and Gainesville location, each with its own personality, menu and vibe. Want an excuse to visit more often? Join their Wine Club to enjoy something new each month and possibly meet other Cork It enthusiasts. Cheers! WE DiG: GRAZING BOARDS
AN AMATEUR’S TIPS TO MAKE IT AMAZING!
By: Paula Hastings You may ask, “What exactly is a grazing board?” The answer is simple: whatever you want it to be! Similar to its proper first cousin, the charcuterie board, it includes a variety of tasty flavors but with a whimsical twist. ‘Tis the season for last-minute holiday and football get-togethers, and both are perfect excuses to throw a fabulous board together. There’s no need to get fancy; you can find the essentials in one stop, as we did at Joy Co. Market in Braselton. Then, add a few pantry staples to complete this sure-to-be crowd-pleaser!
Our top-tier recommendation for a one-stop shop to make your own grazing board: Joy Co. Market 56 Henry St. Braselton, GA
Tips to guide you (don’t be afraid to go off script!): • Create for the eye - Include various colors and textures.
• A few briny items - You cannot go wrong with garlic dill pickles, olives, etc.
• Please the palate - Incorporate several cheeses and a few add-ons to complement each.
• Get nutty - Try some Praline Pecans.
• Add an interesting meat - Like Southern prosciutto (AKA Country Ham)! • Include a few salty treats - Snacks like pretzels, chips, “everything” crackers and cheese straws are all acceptable. • Add at least one sweet - I highly recommend dark chocolate popcorn.
18
• What’s in the pantry? - Check the stock of hot honey, pickles and jams. • Be creative with the unexpected - Try the BBQ pork rinds made in Flowery Branch…a surprising hit every time! • Choose local whenever possible - Especially when out-of-towners visit. Share what’s so special about the place where we live and play!

NEVER HAVE I EVER... MADE A GINGERBREAD HOUSE By: Anna Roberts
Never have I ever thought about making a gingerbread house…but this holiday season seemed like the perfect time to give it a shot. Usually, I opt for more traditional activities like decorating the Christmas tree, baking goodies or watching my favorite holiday movies. So, the idea of building an edible house intrigued me, and ended up being so much fun! My first task was gathering supplies from the store. The essentials included gingerbread pieces, icing and lots (and I mean lots) of colorful candies. During the holidays, the stores are filled with all sorts of treats like mini candy canes, gumdrops and chocolate chips. I purchased anything I thought I might need to decorate my gingerbread house. The first and most important, yet trickiest, step was putting the gingerbread house together. Using the icing as glue to stick the pieces together took some patience, but in the end, it took its shape and was ready for the best part – decorating! My family set out with one mission: to let our imaginations run wild and transform our home into a magical wonderland! We added gumdrop trees, candy cane doors, colorful M&M's and Skittles as lights, marshmallows for a snowy roof and a fence made with licorice sticks. The whole process was like making art with candy, and I couldn't resist trying some sweets as I worked to make sure they were tasty enough for the house! When it was all done, the gingerbread house looked delicious and whimsical. In the end, the real magic happened when my family and friends took our final look at the gingerbread house. Our faces filled with joy as we all broke off pieces of the gingerbread walls and enjoyed the sweet treat. I realized that trying something I'd never done before, like making a gingerbread house, turned into a special part of my holidays. It's not just about building and decorating but spending time with loved ones and feeling the holiday spirit.

So, if you've never made a gingerbread house, give it a try. It's a fun way to share some delicious treats during the holidays, and it might become a tradition you love and look forward to every year! 19

TIPSY:
CALL ME OLD FASHIONED By: Rachel Jeffers
Any bourbon drinker will tell you that a solid whiskey drink is hard to pass up, but often, “less is more,” especially in the case of the Old Fashioned. What is an Old Fashioned? The Old Fashioned is a cocktail made by muddling sugar or simple syrup with bitters and water, adding whiskey (bourbon or rye) and garnishing with an orange slice, lemon zest or, optionally, a cocktail cherry. It is traditionally served with ice in a rocks glass and always stirred, not shaken. It’s simple, straightforward and a perfect balance of pure ingredients with simplistic construction.
“A spirit as the base, sugar to balance the heat of the liquor and buoy the overall flavor, bitters to engage more of our palate and provide complexity and finally water—in the form of ice—to chill and gently dilute.”
- Erin Petrey on bourbonbanter.com
How did the Old Fashioned get its name?
Louis’ House of Bourbon at Chateau Elan is a perfect spot to try the original Old Fashioned and a myriad of five other variations, each with a unique twist. The ingredients remain simple, but the flavor profile alterations each dance differently on the palate. One take on the classic pays homage to “Ole Wilbur the Pig” with Peychaud's and orange bitters, maple syrup, and bacon-infused Old Forester Bourbon. It's only three ingredients, but with slightly more complex flavor profiles. Louis’ has around 90 different bourbons on their menu, an extensive cocktail menu and wine selection (of course!), and southern gastro-pub snacks. The decor is an old-world, speak-easy vibe. European art surrounds moody earth tones, lounge vignettes and luxurious leather seating with bar games (shuffleboard and pool). It's the perfect atmosphere to sit back and be a little “Old Fashioned” with your buddies.
CURIOUS ABOUT BITTERS?
Bitters are tinctures, meaning alcohol-infused flavorings. Vanilla extract is one kind of tincture where vanilla beans are soaked in alcohol to bring out the flavor. Bitters originated as a medicinal tincture by doctors and apothecaries to cure various ailments, especially digestive ones. The most famous bitters are Angostura (typically found in a dark bottle with a yellow cap and a sloppy-dressed oversized white label.)

Some things are oldies but goodies. In an era where bartenders were getting a little too creative with mixers, flavors and fruits, drinkers wanted to return to the basics. (Just like fashion trends are cyclical, so are drink trends!) They desired a cocktail with more "traditional" methods and a little more punch! Hence, “give me something Old Fashioned” was coined, and the name stuck, replacing its original name: “whiskey cocktail” from the mid-1880s.

TASTE TEST:
SUGAR N’ PROOF By: Rachel Jeffers Must Do: Follow Sugar n’ Proof on Instagram: @sugarnproof to keep up with their rotation of baked goods. Must Try: One Sweet and Savory Scone from her baker’s table display on a Saturday morning with fresh, flavored espresso.
Downtown Braselton is changing, and while the location of this sweet bakery has moved a few times, the goodness coming out of the oven has stayed constant! Executive chef and owner of Sugar n’ Proof Bakery, Rana Obeidat, has taken up residence in the historic 1904 building, formerly the Braselton Brothers Department Store. After spending a day in the building, I quickly realized her sweet treats' lasting effects on the community as folks popped in and out all morning for a coffee and pastry to start their day. Her shop may be hard to find on your first visit, but you’ll have no trouble remembering this sweet spot that keeps locals coming back for more. While I haven't tasted it all yet—and probably won't ever because the menu changes weekly—everything I’ve placed in my mouth has been divine! My first encounter with Rana was on social media. I scrolled past one video of her Chocolate Karmel Cookie and was feening for a reason to try one. The two-inch thick cookie is packed with rich chocolate batter, chocolate chips and chunks and a creamy caramel center. And after tasting it, it exceeded even my greatest culinary dreams.
22
Everything I’ve tried at Sugar n’ Proof has been delicious, from freshly baked bread to daily scones (white chocolate raspberry AND bacon cheddar), cheese danishes, jam-filled tarts, stuffed cookies and cake jars. I have not had the pleasure of taste testing her specialty cakes, but that's just because I haven’t had a reason to order one yet. I did refer a friend who ordered a specialty birthday cake and was blown away by the carefully crafted details to make his sweetie's sweet tooth dreams come true with her favorite dessert!
“If you can name it, I can make it. If you can’t name it, I can still make it! That’s the beauty of it. What makes your tastebuds happy is all that matters,” says Rana. Rana’s willingness to experiment sets her apart from other bakeries. Lately, she’s been serving up an eclectic selection of culinary sweets from around the world. With the upcoming holidays, baking is usually a staple in family kitchens. If you’re like me and prefer making side dishes, leave your sweets to Sugar n’ Proof for the perfect addition to any holiday gathering. Whether you have an old-world cultural sweet or new-age family tradition you’d like for the upcoming holidays, Rana would be overjoyed to create it for you!

IN SEASON:
GET FUNG-Y WITH BRIAN FROM MILLER’S MUSHROOMS By: Eryn Austin
Q: How long have you been a mushroom farmer and forager? A: I love being out in the woods and nature, so learning mycology was a great excuse for me to get in the woods more often. I started studying mycology around November of 2019. I was certified by Mushroom Mountain in Easley, South Carolina, in June 2020. Q: Why are mushrooms so versatile, and why should people add them to their diet? A: Several mushroom varieties offer different health benefits. For example, white button mushrooms and Portabella mushrooms (commonly called "store-bought mushrooms") offer tons of fiber when cooked. Shiitake mushrooms are rich in polysaccharides that support your immune system and boost white blood cell production. All oyster mushrooms provide the same benefits with added proteins, making them an excellent substitute for those looking to cut back on meat products! Lion’s Mane has become very popular in the past few years. It is known as the "brain booster" mushroom and helps with memory, focus, nerve support, anxiety, dementia, immunity and gut support. For those lucky enough to find this mushroom fresh, it has a seafood taste and can be used in "crab-less cakes" in place of real crab meat! Turkey Tail and Reishi are also significant immune-boosting mushrooms with the added bonus of helping to stop cancer growth. HOT TIP - Cook Those Mushrooms! “One thing I find when talking to customers about mushrooms is that they don't realize mushrooms must be cooked. Many people are used to eating raw button mushrooms with their salads, but there are no nutrients when eating raw mushrooms. All mushrooms have chitins, a common compound found in nature. The human body only breaks down chitins with heat from cooking. There are other ways to break chitin, for extracts and tinctures. Currently, Miller’s Mushrooms offers Lions Mane, Turkey Tail and Reishi extracts, and we are working on a third product of all three combined for next year's markets.” - Brian Miller
Mushroom Tacos: 1. Shred four to five oyster mushrooms by hand to resemble shredded chicken. 2. Par-boil them in about three ounces of water until the water evaporates. 3. When most of the water has evaporated, add your choice of fat (butter/olive oil) and sear the mushrooms until lightly browned, then add your choice of taco seasoning. Tip - Go light on the seasoning! Once mixed in, taste for flavor and add more in small increments. 4. Once the mushrooms taste to your preference, add a dash of lime juice and stir until evaporated. 5. Use this delicious mushroom mix as a substitute for taco meat and build your tacos however you love them! Enjoy!

DAY TRIP:
HOLIDAY POP-UPS By: Catherine James
Is your go-to local bar/restaurant decking its halls this holiday season? Chances are, it might be! Holiday-themed pop-ups have been storming the metro Atlanta dining scene over the years, and they're only getting more popular.
The concept is festive yet simple. Local bars and restaurants transform their interiors into winter wonderlands complete with string lights, garlands and boozy bubbles. Dozens of nightly holiday parties are scattered in and around Gwinnett, and everyone’s invited! We’ve rounded up some of our favorites in the area. Add one (or a few) of them to your holiday festivity bucket list.
THE BLIND ELF - ATLANTA theblindpigparlourbar.com The Blind Pig, a bougie parlor bar in Atlanta, has mastered the art of the pop-up bar. With pop-ups all year long, including The Playa Pig (summer) and The Wicked Pig (Halloween), they end the year with a bang with The Blind Elf, their take on elegant holiday gatherings. Complete with Christmassy cocktails adorned in pink fairy dust, mini marshmallows and nutmeg, and menu items like Brie Bruschetta and Bacon-Wrapped Dates, your phone will certainly eat first.
TIKI HOLIDAY - DECATUR sostiki.com If you’d prefer Christmas in the tropics, this is the holiday pop-up for you! With over-the-top decor, including bartenders in tacky Christmas sweaters, dancing Santas and plastic reindeer, it’s reminiscent of classic, cheesy holiday film favorites like Christmas Vacation. Grab a lei and some reindeer antlers and join the party!

HOLIDAYS ON THE ROOF - PONCE CITY MARKET - ATLANTA poncecityroof.com The Atlanta-famous Ponce City Market hosts a pop-up, an ice skating rink and other winter games and festivities on its scenic rooftop overlooking the Atlanta skyline. This magical dreamscape is perfect for a holiday date night or family fun. You can even amplify the experience and enjoy a feast above the city from inside an igloo; just be sure to rent your igloo in advance!
OVER THE TOP BURGER - BUFORD

HAPPY WHO-LIDAYS - ALPHARETTA
Gwinnett County has its own fair share of holiday pop-ups, and this one’s unique theme each year is definitely worth checking out. This bar offers a funky, retro vibe and a casual atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to take refuge from a cold winter night without having to halt your holiday celebration.
Mercantile Social, downtown Alpharetta’s most popping bar, transforms into Whoville every holiday season. Grinch fans will get their fix of Who Libations and snacks inspired by the iconic Christmas movie, like roast beef sandwiches and Grinch-er bread martinis.

TOP TEN HOLIDAY FOOD, SHOPPING + LIGHTS! It’s difficult to fathom the holidays are just around the corner. If you are like me, thoughts of holiday shopping don’t even cross your mind until around December 23. But Gwinnett is full of spectacular events, artisan shopping and even a new chocolate factory for those looking for unique, local and artisan gifts! SHOPPING Gas South District will host two regional artisan markets in November. November 3-5, the Atlanta Holiday Boutique is the place to discover beautiful, custom-made gifts by local artisan designers, with over 75 vendors expected. On Friday night, they are hosting a “Girls' Night” from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., where you can enjoy music, fantastic door prizes and late-night, exclusive access to some of the chicest boutiques. If antiques, vintage style and folk art are more your vibe, don’t miss “The Vintage Experience” from November 17-19, featuring dozens of local and regional vendors. Other shopping favorites include the Duluth Farmers and Artisans Market (happening the second and fourth Sundays in November), where a bevy of choices awaits, ranging from local produce, baked goods and other locally made food products to homemade jams, jellies, pickles and salsa, all perfect stocking stuffers. Tis the season for shopping in the Peachtree Corners/Norcross area. New shops are always opening at The Forum, and our favorites include Auburn Candle Company, Girl Tribe and LoveSac. Historic Norcross hosts their annual Historic Holiday Open House on Saturday, November 11. The charming downtown shops will be decked and ready with door prizes, special surprises, sales, new merchandise and refreshments! If shopping local is your mantra, visit the Hudgens Art Center Gift Shop. Stocked with handcrafted treasures from local artists, you’ll find paintings, ceramics, jewelry, mixed media and glass goodies. The gift shop is open during gallery hours, currently 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. FOOD + DRINK Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate! From truffles to molded chocolate, pralines, chocolate-covered fruit and nuts, chocolate bark and more, Bitzel’s sells it all, including the award-winning Georgia Peach Truffle. For the selective chocolate fanatic, Bitzel’s also offers Belgian and single-origin gluten-free, organic and non-GMO Options. Located in Suwanee and opening in November 2023, Bitzel’s is an authentic chocolate factory with a facility featuring 168 feet of linear glass showcasing chocolate production from bean to bark. Master chocolatier Sabrina Coombs—formerly of Nobu Atlanta, the Four Seasons and a season eight finalist on Food Network’s Holiday Baking Championship— is Bitzel’s executive pastry chef.

Interactive screens feature Ecuadorean and Ugandan families explaining the process of growing and harvesting cacao. Visitors will learn about fermentation, drying, sorting, packing, grinding, roasting, tempering and more. Special tastings, pairings and chocolate-making experiences will be available for the holidays – making Bitzel’s one of our favorite ‘experiential’ holiday recommendations. Craving a cocktail? You won’t want to miss Sleigh on Perry in downtown Lawrenceville. Two words: Holiday explosion. This Christmas-themed pop-up bar will satisfy all your holiday fantasies. From festive decorations to Christmas movie-themed cocktails, this spot brings the Holly Jolly spirit. Sleigh on Perry will be open to the public on December 21, 22 and 23 from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. The Sleigh Last Minute Gift Market will be on Sunday, December 17, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. It’s no secret that Gwinnett is officially the Seoul of the South. It’s not just because of our restaurants but also numerous international markets, making locating those hard-to-find ingredients a breeze. This holiday season, we highly recommend the “Everyday Korean” cookbook, co-written by Kim Sunée and Atlanta chef Seung Hee (Korean Fusion on Instagram). The cookbook blends traditional Korean flavors and cooking techniques with ingredients easily found at Gwinnett’s local neighborhood market, grocery store or online. The book includes tips for building up Korean pantry staples, beer, wine and soju pairings, and recipes for making everything from bulgogi and japchae (sweet potato noodles) to kimchi-bacon mac and cheese. And we can’t forget two great ways to light up your holiday nights. There’s no such thing as too many Christmas lights this time of year, especially when you admire them from the warmth of your car. The LAWRENCEVILLE LIGHTS are open December 7-9 and 14-16 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Prepare to be dazzled at the Winter Lantern Festival, where you’ll step into a dazzling world of light with over 1000 handmade Chinese lanterns. It’s a stunning, whimsical walkthrough experience to light up and warm up the season! Visit www.exploregwinnett.org for a full slate of holiday events, experiences and more.
