Build houses, run a daily broadcast news show, chart a patient, analyze soil and water quality or develop computer networks: at Assiniboine Community College you’ll immerse yourself in real situations and spend more time away from the textbooks. We offer you more than 40 diploma and certificate programs in agriculture and environment, business, food and hospitality, health and human services, technology and trades. We also offer a variety of apprenticeship training in skilled trades. Small class sizes, instructors with industry background and all the right technology give you the tools for success. Our college knows that real-world skills and experiences are important. That’s why our programs connect you with industries and communities through projects, conferences, cooperative work placements and practicums, preparing you for a meaningful and interesting career. Your college experience is about more than just studying: there’s always time to fit in a little fun. You should participate in events like our annual Sun of a Beach volleyball tournament, organized by your Students’ Association. Varsity sports are also popular year-round, with hockey, volleyball, soccer and futsal teams to play on or cheer on.

Students like you also compete at provincial and national competitions each year. In recent years, our students have brought home 22 medals from Skills Canada, a national competition where hundreds of students compete in skilled trades and technology contests. ON CAMPUS North Hill Campus Brandon

Our North Hill Campus is one of the most scenic places in the city. Perched atop of Brandon’s North Hill, you’ll have a stunning view overlooking the city and the Assiniboine River valley below. We continue to expand at this historic location and the North Hill Campus now welcomes about half of our Brandon-based students. The site boasts the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts, housed inside a beautiful heritage building, combining the best of both new and old for students in Hotel & Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts, with restored dining areas and study rooms, a contemporary teaching kitchen and a culinary theatre. The spacious Len Evans Centre for Trades and Technology features modern machine shops and classrooms in a historically rich setting. Taking a trade? You’ll enjoy the integrated, open-concept building, with study areas, a Learning Hub, small library and cafeteria. Nearby, our Sustainable Greenhouse is where you’ll bloom in the Horticultural Production and Sustainable Food Systems programs. The large, modern greenhouse, opened in 2013, is a central spot for applied research centered on food security and sustainability under our Field to Fork approach.

Victoria Avenue East Campus Brandon

Our sprawling Victoria Avenue East Campus in Brandon features many large classrooms and well-equipped labs, along with our largest library, a campus bookstore, a fitness room, gymnasium, daycare centre, lecture theatre, television studio, full-service cafeteria, lounge areas and games room. It’s also home to our college radio station, CJ-106 FM. There are hundreds of computers available to students after classes, with 46 stations available during campus hours. Our Cultural Centre provides a welcoming environment for all students and hosts many regular events throughout the year including Elder visits, guest speakers, Bannock Wednesdays, movie nights and craft sessions. Whether you’re looking for a blazing-fast computer lab to put your networking skills to the test in our technology programs, a fully-functioning TV studio, or simulation mannequins to practice your nursing techniques, you’ll find the most up-to-date and interactive equipment here. If you’re in a business program, you’ll use the Victoria Avenue East Campus as your base to learn about financial methods that you’ll put into practice out in the community. Our Parkland Campus in Dauphin is ideally placed in a central location to serve communities across the region. We welcome full and part-time students every year from surrounding communities such as Gilbert Plains, Roblin, Ste. Rose, Ebb and Flow, Bacon Ridge, Pine Creek, Camperville, Sandy Bay, Duck Bay, Skownan, McCreary, Swan River, Russell and Winnipegosis. We value our partnerships with our surrounding communities. The recently expanded and renovated campus now features a new trades shop, a lab for health care training, an enhanced student lounge and an early learning centre. Our Parkland Campus has two computer labs and a Learning Curve open to all students. There is a full-time student success advisor on site, which you can meet with one-on-one to discuss childcare, funding, housing and anything else before starting your studies. Annual activities on campus include a welcome BBQ for all students, holiday feast, alumni celebration and a carpentry housewarming party. We’ve also partnered with Parkland Crossing so there are more housing options for students. Along with our full-time day programs, ACC’s Centre of Continuing Studies hosts many general interest and career development courses. Other programs can be delivered as needed to meet specific needs through contracts with community agencies.

Business Administration

Business Administration is a two-year diploma program with either an Accounting or General specialization. The program starts in September with an optional exit to earn a one-year certificate.

Carpentry and Woodworking

Carpentry and Woodworking is a nine-month certificate program and is accredited for Level 1 apprenticeship, and includes a three-week work experience. The program starts in September and every year students build a house in partnership with Co-op Builders in Dauphin; students are provided with scholarships from Dauphin Co-op Builders.

Comprehensive Health Care Aide

Comprehensive Health Care Aide is a six-month certificate program starting in January. The program allows the option of transferring qualifying credits into ACC’s Practical Nursing program.

PRACTICAL NURSING

Practical Nursing is a two-year diploma program. Parkland Campus will host a rotating rural site of the program with a start date of September 2017.

Mature Student High School

The Mature Student High School program allows you to obtain your high school diploma or upgrade your education so you’re ready for future college studies. The programs start every September and January, with day or evening options available.

Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education is a two-year diploma program that prepares graduates for a rewarding career promoting the development of young children. This program runs every other September, with the next intake beginning in September 2017.

Parkland Daycare Facility

Our non-profit daycare, Parkland Campus Kids Inc., is licensed for 28 pre-schoolers and 12 infants and students get preferred access for their child-care needs. The centre is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers a hot lunch program as well as two healthy snacks every day.

Whitney Roberts

Owner / Operator, Tour Indoor Cycling Things have come full circle – or, full cycle – for Whitney Roberts, a graduate of Assiniboine Community College’s Business Administration program. After stops in Vancouver and Calgary, Whitney and her husband Dana returned to Brandon to open Tour Indoor Cycling. Originally from Deloraine, Manitoba, Whitney attended ACC’s Business Administration program and graduated with a Marketing specialization in 2007. While attending her first year at the college, she met her future husband, Dana, who was in his second year of the Web Design program (class of ‘06).

Meet Whitney

After graduation, the couple moved to Vancouver where Whitney got her Makeup Artistry diploma from the John Casablancas Institute. Always having a desire to work in the cosmetic industry, she felt the combination of her two diplomas was perfect for her career goals.

“

After her graduation in Vancouver, the pair ended up in Calgary. There, Whitney managed a MAC Cosmetics counter, and then moved into an account manager role with Benefit Cosmetics. “My diploma from ACC helped my career path immensely,” said Whitney. “In the cosmetic industry, I was chosen for positions and given promotions in large part because of my diploma.” Whitney got the idea for the spin studio business while living in Calgary. Admittedly, not being a “gym person,” a friend told her about a new spin studio that had opened and after she tried it once she was hooked. “The workout was incredibly fun and effective, and I immediately starting thinking about opening a studio in Brandon. My husband and I always knew we wanted to end up back in Brandon, and we thought that Brandonites would love this concept,” said Roberts.

the many varied aspects of modern policing, including the study of police powers and procedures, community policing, criminology, conflict management, interviewing, investigating and youth in trouble with the law.

THE PLACES YOU’LL GO Graduates may find employment with municipal, regional, provincial and Aboriginal police services in Manitoba and across Canada. Take note that police departments have hiring standards regarding sight, hearing and physical ability. You’re encouraged to explore these standards prior to entering this program. The search for a place to live should begin early. Housing can be more difficult to find toward the end of the summer. Students who arrive in late August often face a limited choice and higher costs. We recognize that some students coming to ACC may have taken courses at another post-secondary institution that are the same or similar to courses offered at ACC. You can request to have these courses reviewed once you’ve applied to your program and we’ll grant you credit where possible. This can help you avoid duplicating something you already know and can reduce both the time and cost of your college education. We also know that for some students, their learning doesn’t stop at ACC and they have plans to continue their education and complete another credential. Our most popular option is the 2+2 program: start at ACC with a two-year diploma then transfer to a partner university for two more years to earn your degree.

As part of Assiniboine International, our English as a Second Language (ESL) program is committed to helping new Canadians gain the English language skills needed to integrate into life in Canada. The ESL program offers a variety of classes aimed at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels 5â&#x20AC;&#x201C;8, with an emphasis on reading, writing, listening and speaking. We also offer computer training and language courses with a focus on the business and health professions. Our TESOL trained teachers can help you prepare for further education and increase your skills and confidence in English. We offer classes Monday to Thursday in the morning, afternoon and evening, Friday morning and Saturday morning and afternoon. STUDENTS ’ ASSOCIATION Your Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association exists to serve you, our students. We’re the voice of students at ACC and work hard to ensure your ACC experience is the best it can be! We are run by a team of elected executive council members and professional staff who work together to bring services, events and support to the ACC student body. Each spring, you’ll cast a vote for the next school year’s ACCSA Executive Council positions: President, Vice President of Finance and Vice President of Events & Marketing. Then, in September, we hold a General Council election to select 10 student representatives to bring forth student perspectives from throughout our college. These council members meet on a biweekly basis and work with college representatives on important initiatives that matter to you all while earning an honorarium and getting real, workplace experience! The ACCSA is a great opportunity for you to get involved and make some key connections within your college community and the business community as well. Aboriginal Services are available at the Victoria Avenue East Campus, the North Hill Campus, the ACC Adult Collegiate and our Parkland Campus in Dauphin.

We can also refer you to external Aboriginal organizations, services and community events and other resources. Please feel welcome to use the Cultural Centre at our Victoria Avenue East Campus as an informal place to relax and socialize with other students.

Join The Team! Cougars men’s and women’s volleyball, soccer and futsal teams play in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference against other post-secondary schools in the province. Our women’s hockey team plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association against schools in the Northern United States. You must be a full time student at ACC to play for the Cougars. ACC provides travel, meals, accommodations and clothing to our student athletes.
