작은 집, 진천 하라 켄야가 기획한 전람회 “하우스 비전 코리아”를 위한 집

집의 단위 규모, 한 채를 작게 지었다. 큰 땅
에 지어진 집도 채가 나뉘어 있었고 집의 앞뒤가 모두 자연이라서 집
안에 들어서면 열린 풍경이 보였다. “작은 집”은 한국적인 형태를 가
지고 있지 않지만 여러 의미로 한국의 집이라는 속성을 갖고 있다. 이
집의 크기는 르 코르뷔지에의 인체 모듈에서 출발하여 기둥 사이의
폭이 226 센티미터이다. 이는 작은 한옥의 한 칸 폭과 비슷하다. 40
제곱미터 정도의 전체 면적은 두 채로 나뉘어, 한 채는 책을 읽는 공
간이고 다른 한 채는 기본적인 주거 공간이다. 나의 집에서 또 다른
나의 집을 볼 수 있는 것은 한옥의 멋스러움 중 하나이다. 또한 채를 사이에 두고 앞마당과 뒷마당이 있어 집 안에서 열린 풍경을 볼 수 있 다. 마당의 성격은 경사진 터를 평평하게 다듬으며 만든 여러 레벨의 기단과 나지막한 담장에 의해 정의된다. 이렇듯 가장 기본적이지만 중 요한 여러 전통적인 요소들이 이곳에 담겨있다.
Traditionally, one chae, the housing unit, was small in Korean architecture. Even when built on a large ground, the house was divided by several chaes, so each chae was surrounded by nature and anyone entering the chae can see the open scenery. Jageunzip: House for Small Living does not follow the Korean traditional form, but retains some of the features that belong to Korean housing in many respects. The house’s size started from Le Corbusier’s Modulor, so the distance between columns is 226 centimetres. It is also similar to the width of a kahn in a small hanok. The total area of 40 square-metres is divided into two: one chae for reading and the other chae for basic living. Being able to see another house in my house is one of the charms of hanok. The chae is located between the front and back madangs, allowing you to appreciate open scenery in the house. The characteristics of the madang are defined by lowered fences and multi-level gidans created by flattening the sloping tuh. As such, the house contains several basic and yet fundamental traditional elements.

지역과 구분되는 독특한 기후와 풍경을 가지고 있다. “설록향실” 주 변의 차밭은 나지막한 수평 경관이 지배적이고 그 위의 하늘은 변덕
스러운 기후에 따라 수시로 변한다. 오래된 두 건물 사이에 새롭게 추
가된 볼륨은 이러한 주변 풍경을 “버티기 위해” 만들어진 수직적인
선이다. 주변의 풍경을 버티는 것에 대해 건축가 최욱은 바다 위의 배
를 예로 들어 설명한다. “바다에 떠 있는 배를 생각해보면 배의 형태
가 꽤나 복잡합니다. 굴뚝, 조타실처럼 수직적으로 튀어나온 부분이
많아요. 배의 복잡한 형태는 바다 수평면이 강하게 있어서 서로 어울 릴 수 있습니다.” 기존 건물을 유지하되 공간의 성격과 내부에서 보 이는 풍경에 맞춰 창의 크기를 조절했다. 기존의 창보다 작은 창을 만 들기 위해 새로운 벽을 덧댈 때는 기존의 벽과 구분되도록 했다. 내부 공간과 그곳에서 보이는 풍경 사이의 균형을 만들고 기존의 구조 및 재료와 새로 추가되는 것을 분명하게 구분하는 것은 원오원 작업에 서 공통으로 발견되는 특징이다.
Jeju is Korea’s largest island, located south of the peninsula, with a unique climate and scenery. The tea fields around Sulloc Hyangsil are dominated by low and horizontal landscapes, and the sky above them changes from time to time according to the volatile climate. The newly added volume between the two old buildings is a vertical line created to “withstand” these surrounding landscapes. The architect Choi Wook explains this process by comparing it to a ship at sea. “When we picture a ship at sea, its form is quite complex. There are a lot of vertically protruding elements like chimneys and wheelhouses. These complex forms can get along well because the horizontal surface of the sea is strong.” We preserved the existing buildings but adjusted the sizes of the windows to match the space’s characteristics and the view from the inside. When an additional wall was required to make an existing window smaller, we made it possible to visually distinguish the new wall from the existing one. The balance between the interior and the view from the inside, and a clear distinction between the old structure, materials, and the new ones, are common characteristics found in One O One’s works.

남아있는 곳으로 앞으로 새로운 변화가 기대되는 곳이다. 주변 일대
에서 먼저 새롭게 만들어지는 건축물이다 보니 앞으로의 변화에 영
향을 주는 것을 고려함과 동시에 숫자와 시스템이 층층이 쌓인 금융
회사의 이미지가 필요했다. 불투명 유리가 켜켜이 쌓인 이중 파사드
는 이 둘을 모두 충족시킨다. 기능적으로 필요한 파사드 디테일의 그
림자가 입면에 투영되는데 그렇게 만들어진 적층된 그리드의 모습이
회사 이미지에 부합한다. 동시에 켜켜이 쌓인 불투명 유리는 건물이
주변 기후에 따라 빛을 품거나 반사하는 공기처럼 느껴지도록 한다.
반면 저층부는 상층부와 의미적으로, 구조적으로 분리되어 주변을
향해 적극적으로 열리며 주변 상황에 따라 분위기가 바뀐다. 이 건물 은 고정된 형태가 아니라 장소에 따라 달리 느껴지는 냄새나 소리에 가깝다.
The place where Hyundai Card Yeongdeungpo Office was built retains the old, everyday culture of Yeongdeungpo. It is also a place full of potential for change. Because it was the first new building to be built in the neighbourhood, it was necessary to consider the influence of future changes and at the same time create an image of a financial company with layers of numbers and systems. A design of a double-façade made of layered opaque glass panels was adopted to satisfy these two requirements. The shadows of the functionally necessary façade details are projected onto the elevation, and the layered grids created in this way match the company’s image. At the same time, the overlapped opaque glass panels give an impression of air retaining and reflecting light as the climate changes. Meanwhile, the lower parts are semantically and structurally separated from the upper part and are actively open to the surroundings, changing the atmosphere to match the context around it. The building is not a fixed form, but resembles a scent or sound that is felt differently depending on the place.
